As cabin crew are required to be able to react quickly in emergency situations on the aircraft, they are always on the lookout for something out of the ordinary. Whether that is a passenger who has had too much alcohol, a passenger acting suspiciously, someone who may be feeling unwell, or even something wrong with the aircraft. Flight attendants are always vigilant and ready to deal with anything thrown at them. Just perhaps not more than one emergency on the same flight!
In today's true story, we hear of one incredible crew member, who helped save the life of not just one person, but perhaps the whole airplane!

It's been nearly 19 years to the day since we have had restrictions on taking liquids through onto the aircraft. Almost 2 decades of decanting our toiletries into small containers, of getting held up because we forgot to empty our water bottles, and countless expensive bottles of perfume have no doubt been confiscated. For pilots and flight attendants, it changed the way we work!
Do you remember why though? It's something we are so used to now that many of us don't remember what led us to that place. And it all started in the UK. A local terrorist plot that had consequences worldwide and changed aviation and travel forever.
In today's episode of The Red Eye, we have a dramatization of the events of that day. The day that the liquids were banned on planes.

Most pilots are incredibly upstanding people. They have a very serious job that has taken years of training and discipline. But they do also need to be good with people. Working as a team is crucial for both safety reasons, and for a smooth trip with colleagues when you reach your destination.
So when we were told this true story of a pilot causing scandal and upset whilst down route in Jamaica, we couldn't believe that he'd gotten through the recruitment process without someone spotting that he was a total liability!

Cabin Pressure - A Pilot's first, and nearly last flight!

It's crazy when you think about it, but every pilot must have their first ever flight with passengers on. We will never know about it, but up the front that rookie pilot with a handful of flying hours in their pocket will be sweating, nervous and then haul a whopping great aircraft into the air with real live people on it. They suddenly have the lives of lots of people in their hands! Crazy right?!
We got the chance to chat with a brave pilot who was surprisingly happy to share his first experience - which was nearly his last! We're very grateful that the mistake was discovered in time, and we bet the passengers are better off being none the wiser!
