Windings – a 5-piece rock/alternative/pop/indie/folk/blusey are spectacular performers and have been on the line up for the Forbidden Fruit Festival and The Electric Picnic. Professional Guitarist Mike Brookfield who currently lives in Dublin. Performing contemporary blues he writes and preforms all his own material as well as being one of Irelands leading educators in blues, rock and Jazz guitar. He teaches his own school of music in Portmarnock and teaches students all over the world via the internet. He spent several years in London where he where he appeared in The Sound of Fury, Four Steps to Heaven and Elvis the Musical.

Punk rock legends – the Undertones – are this week’s Hot Press band of the week. Consisting of Feargal Sharkey, John O’Neill, Damian O’Neill, Michael Bradley and Billy Doherty. This four piece indie/rock band from Mullingar, Co. Westmeath talk to Johnny Bowe on Radio Nova’s Locals Only. They have being jamming together for years and formed the band – The Academic in 2013. They started out in a local battle of the bands competition but it wasn’t long before they were playing big festivals like Longitude Festival, Electric Picnic and Independence. They’ve supported bands like the Pixies, Kodaline and Little green cars! The future looks bright for these guys.

Sub Motion are a female fronted band who have recently released an EP entitled Happy Little Bruises and a video of the song ‘Dust to Dust’. They play ‘turn the lights out’ on this weeks show and you can check this energetic rock band http://submotionband.com/

The Statics are this weeks hot press band of the week for Johnny Bowe on Radio Nova’s Locals Only. They formed in 2010 and the band consists of Liam Gardner (Lead Vocal/Guitar), Daragh O’Connell (Guitar/Vocals), Jacqueline Campion (Drums) and Thomas Nugent (Bass). These guys were Hot Press band of the week a few weeks back and here they are live, talking to Johnny Bowe on Radio Nova’s Locals Only. The Flaws are an indie-rock quartet – Irish Choice Music Prize-nominees, Meteor Award nominated, from Carrickmacross in County Monaghan and Dundalk in County Louth. They’re latest single ‘Animals’ is preformed live in studio and is the first song on their keenly awaited forthcoming album “Springtime for The Flaws”

Fox Jaw are an Irish rock group with have a modern feel but an old soul producing a trend shaking, majestic deep growl, which swaggers from the terrific to the sublime. Melodic and honest in their approach their songs can be dark. “A seductively gloomy sound in a league of its own … will both mystify and satisfy” (State.ie) “One of Ireland’s most inventive and engaging rock bands” (Hotpress). ‘Ghost’s Parade’, was recorded with producer Dave ‘Skippy’ Christophers (Josh Ritter, Whipping Boy, Mundy) & engineer Owen Lewis (Flogging Molly, Snow Patrol, REM), and mastered at Wav Mastering by Richard Dowling (David Bowie, Foo Fighters, Interpol). These two Irish guys met in a dusty library in Liverpool in 2007, Oisin Leech is from Navan, Mark McCausland is from Omagh. The pair shared the same love of music (from the Carter Family to Sam Cooke, Mississippi John Hurt to Dion and the Bellmonts, Phil Spector to the Louvin Brothers, the Impressions to Van Morrison), and before long, were jamming together in the dive bars of Liverpool when not on the road with their bands. The flaws formed in Spring of 2004, releasing their debut EP in the Summer of 2005, they have released to more albums since – ‘Achieving vagueness’ in 2007 and ‘Constant adventure’ in 2010. The Flaws are Paul Finn on Vocals/Guitar, Dane McMahon on Bass/Backing Vocals, Shane Malone, Lead Guitar and drummer Colin Berrill, the band are managed by Irish music industry legend Derek Turner. They talk to us at Radio Nova about future plans and current successes.

VOX, a Dublin rock based band, are this weeks Hot Press band of the week.

After moving from the UK some years ago Joe Fury moved to the Galway/Mayo border, where the band Joe Fury and Hayride formed . With high-energy live performances and staying true to a unique combination of rockabilly and bluegrass the band are becoming popular on the festival scene.

Nick Kelly (aka Irish Legends – the fat lady sings) released three songs under the pseudonym Alien Envoy after lots of radio play and a great response to the sound Alien Envoy were formed. Some of the people who have worked with Nick on the forthcoming album are Dave Hingerty (drums), Brian Hogan (bass, guitars, vocals), Anthony Gibney (guitars), Kim Porcelli (cello, vocals), Aoife Kelly (vocals) and Ann Scott (vocals)

Having played almost every venue in Dublin, this Dublin quartet are the ones to watch. Future Phantoms have just released their EP ‘ESCAPADES’ with their début single “Until I see the sun” – its the summer of 2014 and with influences like Sterophonics and Jam we’re sure to be hearing more from these guys.

Winner of the Hogs and Heifers battle of the bands 2014 are Mama Martin. This four piece are a new wave delta rock group with a bluesy edge. These guys are open to anything and everything, their self managed and are going to make good use of the 2,000 € worth of recording time they won at Temple lane recording studios. Blues, Rock, Punk, Grunge Rockabilly and Surf all describe the sound of The Bonnevilles and have been mixed well enough to make something unique. According to RICK SAUNDERS The Bonnevilles Good Suits and Fightin’ Boots easily ranks high on my short list of best albums of the year…. Greg Gaughran talks to American rock band from the San Francisco Bay Area, California, Counting Crows ahead of their show at the Royal Hospital Kilmainham (June 24th)

Anton and Kieran from the band Revolution won their heath in the Hogs and Heifers battle of the bands competition, these guys cover the four different types of rock from all decades and are big Foo Fighters fans. Ham Sandwich are an Irish indie rock band from county Meath. The band released their new single ‘Illuminate’ in Ireland on April 4, 2014 which can be heard on this podcast. The band consists of Niamh Farrell on vocals, Podge McNamee on vocals and guitar, Darcy on guitar and piano David McEnroe and John Moore on bass guitar and Ollie Murphy on Drums.

According to the Independent this 5 piece roots American Outfit I draw slow are … one of the most beguiling and singular acts currently on the circuit.

Black end won their heath at the the Hogs and Heifers battle of the bands competition on the 8th of May 2014. They came in to talk to Johnny Bowe on Radio Nova’s Locals Only the following Sunday. These guys are no strangers to metal/rock, from Poland and living in Ireland for over 10 years. They play the song ‘9’ live in studio and keep listening for the song next to me …

Children of the son – is made up of 3 Irish Brothers from Wicklow; Jack, Art and Max Matthews. They recently recorded 5 songs with record producer Warren Huart in LA. They play Pop/Rock and as Warren Huart said ‘I think its going to be phenomenal. My guess is a major will pick it up. I can almost guarantee it. And I got to work with one of the best young bands in the World’.

Join Radio Nova with Robby Krieger, an American guitarist and founding member of the music band "The Doors". Krieger wrote or co-wrote many of the Doors' songs, including the hits "Light My Fire", "Love Me Two Times", "Touch Me", and "Love Her Madly".

On Radio Nova today, Zach Filkins, an American musician and lead guitarist of the pop rock band "One Republic" talks about what to expect from the band as they preform at the Olympia theater, as well as less people showing up to music shows due to financial troubles.

Dead Cat Bounce – Discoverdale on Radio Nova. The band was an Irish comedy band made up of Demian Fox, Shane O'Brien and James Walmsley. Based in Dublin, but touring all over the world, the group performed all-original comedy songs in variety of musical styles.

Scott Gorham & Ricky Warwick of the band "Black Star Riders" join us on Radio Nova. The band began when members of the 2011–2012 line-up of Thin Lizzy decided to record new material, but chose not to release it under the Thin Lizzy name.

Joe Elliott of Def Leppard joins us on Radio Nova on the Launch Night of their double live album, Viva Hysteria while they stay in Vegas at the Hard Rock Hotel. Joe tells us about the practice that the band members are doing to prepare for the songs they preformed over 25 years ago as well as the excitement of the band being their own opening act.
