On episode 173 of Inside the SCCA, we connect with Formula F driver Ricky Simpson. I first met Ricky at Buttonwillow Raceway Park. It was late on a Saturday night, and they were working to fix an electrical gremlin. It was Ricky, his uncle and about a dozen super friendly family members. We chatted for a bit, they offered me a Diet DP and as I was leaving, I asked how's the car -- they said they thought it was good to go and I wandered off. The next day -- Ricky won the race... and he's been running up friend regularly ever since. Tonight, we'll talk about FF, racing with family and more. On episode 118 of Driven to Compete Carey met with Bryan Heitman. Bryan drives a MX-5 Global Cup car. He has been on a super accelerated learning curve in just under 2 years. In that short time he started tracking his car and then he and his buddies all bought Covid simulators and raced each other in MX-5 simulator cars in iRacing. On episode 116 of Driven to Compete Carey met with Peter Zekert. Peter's first race in his B-Spec car was earlier in the day I interviewed him. But he's been racing in the SCCA for years in GT Lite, GT4, and GT5s since the early 80s. He's got some very interesting stories from when he spent 15 years as a high threat driving instructor for the US military and special forces. On episode 117 of Driven to Compete Carey met with Stewart Black. Stewart drives a Chevy Sonic and that makes a lot of sense since he owns Bill Black Chevrolet & Cadillac. I met Stewart on the track in the B-Spec a couple of years ago, but since then he's also gotten into GT2 with a Corvette. He's still working through the kinks in the Corvette, so until then, he jumped back into his Sonic B-Spec for the June Sprints, where he won the first race of the weekend.
