6 Years in Tihar Jail: Umar Khalid Narrates His Day in Prison in a Letter to Friends & Family
Friday, September 11, 2026 • Duration 07:16
What does life inside Tihar Jail look like when every day follows the same routine? In this video, we bring you Umar Khalid’s first-person account of a day behind bars, as he completes six years in prison.
From the early morning “ginti” (prisoner count) to the final lock-up at night, Umar Khalid describes the sounds, routines, friendships, restrictions and small moments that define life inside one of India’s most well-known prisons.
“Khalid utho, haath hilaao. Khalid, abbay zinda hai?” — these are the words that begin his day inside the prison ward. Umar Khalid has remained in custody for six years while the legal proceedings continue. His supporters have called his incarceration an example of the challenges faced by dissenters and political prisoners in India, while authorities have maintained their allegations against him.
In his prison diary, Umar Khalid writes about waking up to the sound of wardens counting prisoners, sharing space with more than 100 inmates, waiting in lines for basic facilities, receiving censored newspapers, making limited phone calls with family, and helping fellow prisoners with legal applications.
Watch this detailed account of one day in Umar Khalid’s life inside Tihar Jail — a prison diary about time, isolation, survival and the human stories hidden behind prison walls.

Shashi Tharoor Talks CJP, Youth Protests, Rahul Gandhi, and BJP's 'Failures' to Understand the GenZ
Thursday, September 3, 2026 • Duration 30:05
Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, in an interview with senior journalist Javed Ansari, discusses the growing disconnect between young voters and traditional political parties, the rise of youth-led movements like the Cockroach Janta Party protests, and what it means for the future of Indian politics.
From unemployment and exam irregularities to questions around representation and accountability, issues affecting young Indians have increasingly become a political flashpoint.
The BJP has built a strong support base among young voters over the last decade, but critics argue that concerns around jobs and opportunities have created dissatisfaction. At the same time, opposition parties like the Congress face the challenge of converting this frustration into political support.
In this conversation, Tharoor speaks about the BJP’s record, the challenges before the opposition, and why newer political groups and movements are managing to connect with young voters in ways traditional parties have struggled to.

'Stand By My Decision To Quit NC': Lok Sabha MP Aga Mehdi Amid Rift With Farooq Abdullah
Thursday, September 3, 2026 • Duration 20:26
“I stand by what I've said regarding my resignation," said Aga Ruhullah Mehdi, National Conference MP in the Lok Sabha, who announced that he would resign from his seat and quit the party on 3 November amid a widening rift with party chairperson Farooq Abdullah. In an exclusive interview with The Quint, Mehdi said given the political environment over the past several months, there is a need to address people’s concerns and respond to the commitments made to them, rather than dismissing or ignoring their apprehensions.
When asked about the alleged firing of pellets against student protesters at Delhi's Jantar Mantar during the NEET protests in July, Mehdi said Delhi Police did what has been happening in Kashmir for years.

Can Nicobar Islands' Corals Survive Translocation? Coral Biologist Raises Doubts
Monday, March 16, 2026 • Duration 16:53
At a time when corals around the world are facing unprecedented threats from climate change, India’s plans to translocate big coral colonies in the Nicobar Islands for a mega development project has come under severe criticism. A comprehensive plan to translocate 16,150 coral colonies—as suggested by the Zoological Survey of India (ZSI)—enabled the Rs 92,000-crore project to get a go-ahead from the National Green Tribunal (NGT). The tribunal deemed that the plan by the ZSI had sufficient safeguards to give the mega port and township project a green light. However, Dr Bryan Wilson, a renowned coral biologist and Visiting Research Fellow at the University of Oxford, disagrees. In an exclusive interview with The Quint, Dr Wilson said the plan to translocate corals in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands—and the assumption that the environment will be exactly the same—is nothing short of "scientific madness".
Dr Wilson further questioned whether any independent scientific authority had, in fact, verified the claim made by the ZSI in the tribunal that their previous translocations had resulted in a greater than 90 percent survival rate. "The big issue that I think as a scientist, as a researcher, that I'm really concerned about is that there has been no independent fact-checking of what the ZSI says. It truly baffles me," he said.
