“Bitcoin is Hope.” - Christine

"We need to be using less energy, which is coming from these forms, which is contributing to carbon emissions, but a whole lot more of forms which are flexible, which are stranded, which are carbon neutral or better even greenhouse negative."

My guest today is Daniel Batten. Daniel is an entrepreneur, author, cleantech investor and co-founder of CH4 capital, a climate tech fund whose mission is to accelerate humanity's response to removing methane from our atmosphere, with methane being one of the worst greenhouse gas emitters for how it traps heat in our atmosphere.  

In this episode we discuss effective communication techniques for progressives seeking to educate peers about Bitcoin's climate benefits. Daniel advocates for bold, data-driven claims backed by scientific consensus to convey Bitcoin's potential to environmentalists and ESG investors. We discuss bitcoin as a source of hope for progressives that can reignite passion from the progressive and environmentalist movements, and how to have open, thoughtful discussions with folks that still have yet to understand bitcoin's potential and benefits. We discuss Bitcoin's evolving environmental narrative, quantifying and using data to avoid vague speech that sounds like greenwashing, increasing mainstream media coverage of bitcoin in a positive light, and the work still needed to be done to show why Bitcoin is the greatest ESG asset and tool of our time.

We discuss the flaws in left vs right political framing, scientific political theory, global affairs, charismatic leaders, freedom vs surveillance, the Israel-Palestine conflict, finding hope and purpose, and more. Natalie provides unique insights on political vibes vs political science, the role of the state, economic policy, and how Bitcoin offers an opportunity to rethink money and power. Natalie is one of the most intelligent thinkers and authors on social and political anthropology, and my hope is that this episode can provide everyone, especially progressives, some food for thought in terms of the state, typical political polarization, and what our world could look like if we were to move beyond our current social and political hinderances. "If you want to see a world where the US is a leader on Bitcoin...you need to be engaged in the process." - Dennis Porter

My guests today are Dennis Porter and Jason Brett. Dennis is the CEO & Co-Founder of Satoshi Action Fund and the President & Founder of Satoshi Action Educate, non-profits focused on building policy and education for lawmakers and regulators on Bitcoin & Proof-of-Work mining. Jason is a former FDIC Capital Markets Regulator during the 2008-2009 Global Financial Crisis, a policy advisor at the Bitcoin Policy Institute, and Founder & Chairman of the Board at Value Technology which encompasses the use of blockchain to form decentralized, secure data exchanges. 

In this episode we discuss bitcoin's regulatory and political landscape, including the hotly debated FinCen proposed new regulation to enhance transparency in convertible virtual currency mixing and combat terrorist financing. While this proposed rule in many ways in overreaching and emotionally tuned, there is much to be hopeful for in terms of the regulatory landscape in the United States toward bitcoin, our legal system, the potential and anticipated Bitcoin spot ETF's, and some bipartisan efforts to promote bitcoin. That said, there is still a lot of disappointment in anti-Bitcoin rhetoric and what many politicians, especially progressives and democrats, seem to be missing about bitcoin. We discussed how to engage in the political process regarding bitcoin and what progress folks like Dennis and Jason have been making on that front and so much more. We are incredibly lucky to have Dennis and Jason on team bitcoin, engaging in this mainstream, political world that is critical to positioning the U.S. as a leader in bitcoin and having U.S. citizens reap the full benefit of what a pro-bitcoin US regulatory and political landscape could look like.

Dom is a proud fire fighter, former President of the Santa Monica Fire Fighters, and Founder of Proof of Workforce, a non-profit helping workers, unions, and businesses with education-based Bitcoin adoption. Lisa also serves on the board of directors at Proof of Workforce.

He is the author of "Check Your Financial Privelege" and his latest book "Hidden Repression: How the IMF and World Bank Sell Exploitation as Development." In this episode we discusses how Bitcoin can serve as a tool for freedom and empowerment around the world. Alex talks about Bitcoin's ability to help activists and democratic movements resist authoritarian abuses, evade censorship, bypass the global inequities of the existing financial system, protect individual liberties, and shift power away from centralized governments back towards ordinary people and communities. We also get into some current global affairs, and the exciting moment in history we are in concerning bitcoin and censorship resistant technologies' future. Alex was instrumental to me early on in my bitcoin journey, helping me understand Bitcoin's human rights angle through his interviews and writings, so it was an honor to have him on the show.

"I think the Left probably has a bigger disconnect on money than we see elsewhere." 

My guest today is Lyn Alden. Lyn is a macroeconomist, author, and founder of Lyn Alden Investment Strategy. 

Far from a niche libertarian curiosity, Lyn compellingly frames bitcoin as aligning with progressive values of financial inclusion, human rights, environmental sustainability and transparency. By tracing the evolution of monetary systems, she builds a thoughtful bipartisan case for why progressives should reconsider biases against this new form of "hard money."

In this conversation we discuss her new book Broken Money, which I think is one of the best books for low and working class people that exposes our current broken money and global financial system which benefits wealthy elite at the expense of every day people. We analyze global financial systems, the need for financial inclusion, Bitcoin's opt-out properties, and how Bitcoin transcends traditional partisan divisions. Lyn makes a compelling yet nonpartisan case for why those on the left concerned with human rights, the environment, and social equity should take a fresh look at Bitcoin's possibilities.

My hope is that this conversation will help folks from the left gain a better understanding of money, our global financial system, and yearn to learn more by reading Lyn's book and other resources about how we can actually help people the way our values and social programs desire to. We can't being to fix the world until we fix the money.

My guest today is Bradley Rettler. Bradley is an Associate Professor of Philosophy at the University of Wyoming and a member of the research collective Resistance Money alongside Andrew Bailey and Craig Warmke. In this episode we discuss how Bitcoin connects to progressive values like privacy, freedom, economic justice and inclusion. We also discuss Bitcoin's potential for marginalized groups, protesting authoritarian regimes, campaign finance reform, reproductive rights, philosophy, critical thinking, renewable energy, and Bitcoin's independence from government control. Bradley is one of my favorite people to talk to about Bitcoin and how it can intersect with the real world and these things we as progressives really care about, and I couldn't be more excited for "Resistance Money" the book to be published in the coming months, which we will keep you all posted on.

My guest today is Mike Brock, CEO of TBD, (a part of Block), which focuses on building open source, decentralized technologies. In this wide-ranging conversation, Mike discusses Bitcoin's relationship to politics, culture, and decentralization. He argues against simplistic views of Bitcoin as an all-encompassing solution and for nuance over maximalism. We discuss Bitcoin as a tool, the risks of centralization, using Bitcoin to advance liberal democracy and human freedom, romantics v skeptics, and more. I really enjoy Mike's perspectives, passion for optimism and philosophy, and commitment to decentralized tech. Are we as divided as we think? Mike doesn't seem to think so, and feels we are more united and bipartisan in many ways than people, especially on social media, will have us think.
