If you've been keeping your eyes and ears open with this year's football playoffs, then the name Brock Purdy won't be new to you at all. 

Purdy started off as some unassuming 3rd string QB, but recently his name has been blowing up as he was given the opportunity to lead his team to 5 straight victories going into the NFL playoffs. It's not hard to start to wonder if this "from the shadows 3rd string QB" could go all the way to the Super Bowl!  For the next couple weeks people will definitely be waiting to see if exactly that happens!

In the sports card industry we have basically everything we could possibly need, and frankly, probably too much of it. We have numerous card grading companies, selling and e-commerce platforms, and more vaults than I even want to think about.

So what could we possibly still need? Well, I think there is one solid hole that could be filled. There are a couple that are already trying, or are at least in an optimal position to fill this role.

Last week we talked about autograph quality, sone of the biggest gripes in the industry.  So this week we are naturally talking about the 2nd gripe of the industry, autograph cost!

The quality of autographs has obviously been dropping, but why has the cost of autographs has been going up?  What can we do about it? Are dealers just being greedy and taking every penny you have? We'll talk about all that and more today!

The sports autograph. It's the quintessential thing that any serious collector wants in their collection on a baseball, basketball, jersey, or anything else with their favorite team logo.

Luckily for collectors, most athletes give a nice, quality autograph.  However, sometimes the autograph quality is not what you would hope for from many of the newer athletes. More and more these days, we see athlete's signatures turning into scribbles (if they actually try), and just a straight line if they don't. Why is this? Why are autographs continuing to decline in quality? What can we do about it?

Is it finally time!? For a long time, PSA has offered an authentication option that let's face it, didn't mean too much for collectors. Now, I used it from time to time for lower value cards in the past, mostly just to get the card slabbed, but with changing prices at PSA and a new dedication to return cards on a quicker timeline, I think it's time for this specific option to die off and be replaced.

I'm talking about the "Trading Card" authentication. I've talked about it in depth before, and today we're going a little more in-depth about why it is time for it to be put away for good!
