Todays guest is Allison Pearson who recently celebrated her 10th year in business. Happy Business Birthday!

She grew up in Lincolnshire and developed a love of art, cats and the great outdoors. 

Early jobs included working at an abbatoir, a builders merchant, and a farm shop before she tentatively started a dog walking business, and aquired her first customers via Bark.

Todays guest Candace D'agnolo grew up in central Illinois, and showed an early entrepreneurial streak by selling pencils and erasers to other kids in the playground, as well as legitimately bringing in pocket money extra babysitting and dog sitting for her neighbours... 

She achieved her dream of working at an advertising agency in Chicago, but hated it so left to start a Mural painting business for kids bedrooms. 

Then she moved into the pet industry and worked with a friend for a while before striking out on her own aged 26, launching Dogaholics retail store.

She added 2 more outlets, built the team up and added other services like dog walking, and daycare then after 10 years decided to sell the retail arm of the business.

This weeks guest Isabel Alvarez Arata was born in Equador, moved to Florida as a child, and was surrounded by animals including rescue cats and even a monkey! She adopted her first dog aged 17 - a rescue called Baci, which means kisses. 

She studied French and Business, and ended up being an English teacher in France aged 23. On her return to the USA she worked in a bank, in sales and in the hospitality industry. 

She adopted another dog aged 27 but struggled to find a pet carer, so started her own pet care business in Northern Virginia in March 2008, and had taken on staff member by August of that year!

Isabel truly found her calling as a business owner and she thrived as a creative, energetic pet-entreprenuer. 

She took the lessons from her previous roles and successfully systemised, staffed, and scaled up her business to the point where she had a team of 20, with hundreds of clients across the DC area. 

Then she got married, moved to El Paso and ran the business remotley from 1700 miles away.

For five years Isabel hired remotely, interviewed remotely, trained remotely and managed the business remotely, WAY before Zoom became popular. 

Then the pandemic hit and Isabel has to take the difficult decision to close the business, but then she found a new calling as the host of Covered in Pet Hair Podcast, a boozy pet and dog podcast on Pet Life Radio.

In just two years Lucy Hawke has transitioned from a full-time teaching role, to starting a side hustle pet care business, then she niched down to her true passion, which is guinea pigs and little critters, which led to her writing a book, The Healthy, Happy Guinea Pig Guide Book.

This sent Kirsty in a whole new direction which unltimitley led to her opening what became Furry Tails Dog Grooming.

This weeks guest is awesome animal behaviourist, and one of my Diamond coaching clients, Laura Ward. 

A childhood love of animals led to Laura leaving school and becoming a Vet Nurse, a career she held for 10 years. In that time she also nurtured a love of dog behaviour, and eventually she left employed life to start her own training business.
