The room was almost empty. No mainstream media. By the afternoon, only one MP was left in the room.

I share my impressions from being there in person: the MPs who showed up, the ones who didn't, a Conservative MP's answer on why he took the shot, and the testimony of a vaccine-injured veteran that no one in the room will forget.

The average Canadian family now spends nearly 42% of its income on taxes — but that's only the beginning of Canada's affordability problem.

According to the Fraser Institute's 2026 Canadian Consumer Tax Index, the average Canadian family earns $121,111 and pays approximately $50,721 in taxes.

But what happens to the money Canadians have left?

Over the past five years, food prices have increased by approximately 27%. A family of four is projected to spend nearly $1,000 more on food this year alone. Nearly 2.2 million visits to Canadian food banks were recorded in a single month — almost double the level recorded just six years ago.

Then there's housing.

The average Canadian home that sold for approximately $471,000 in 2016 now costs roughly $675,000. And while a home cost approximately 2.3 times annual income in 1961, today we're looking at roughly 7.8 times annual income.

And there's another part of this conversation we rarely discuss: what constitutes a basic necessity has completely changed.

Internet. Cellphones. Childcare. A second vehicle. Insurance. Commuting.

Expenses Canadian families either didn't have in 1961 or didn't depend on the way families do today.

Tonight, we're going beyond the headline numbers and looking at what it actually costs to live in Canada in 2026 — and why so many Canadians feel like they're falling further behind regardless of how much they work.

Is Pierre Poilievre's leadership actually crumbling — or are Canadians watching another mainstream media distraction while Mark Carney's government avoids scrutiny?

Tonight I'm joined by Rob Anders, former Member of Parliament, founding member of the Conservative Party of Canada and someone who has known Pierre Poilievre since he was just 14 years old.

With Conservative MPs crossing the floor, longtime party members walking away and questions surrounding Poilievre's leadership dominating the headlines, there are two very different stories being told.

One says the Conservative Party is fractured and Pierre Poilievre is the problem.

The other says Canada's mainstream media is obsessing over the opposition while giving Mark Carney and the Liberal government a free pass.

So which is it?

Rob Anders has been around the Canadian conservative movement for decades and knew Pierre long before most Canadians had ever heard his name. That gives him a perspective on Poilievre, the Conservative Party and the Canadian conservative movement that very few people can offer.

We get into what's happening inside the Conservative Party, what conservatism actually means in Canada today, whether Pierre still represents those values and how much difference really remains between Canada's major political parties.

We also examine the growing argument that Canada effectively has a Uniparty — where Conservatives may campaign against Liberal policies but too often participate in the same political system once they arrive in Ottawa.

And with Canadians increasingly frustrated by both the government and the opposition, the conversation ultimately goes somewhere much bigger than Pierre Poilievre:

Can Canadians still vote themselves out of the mess we're in?

This isn't about defending Pierre Poilievre or attacking him.

For nearly two weeks, over 1,000 international graduates — most of them from Punjab, India — have been protesting in Calgary, staging a hunger strike after their Post-Graduation Work Permit applications were rejected en masse.

Yesterday, CBSA officers showed up directly at the protest site, checking immigration documents and flagging 12 people as possibly inadmissible to Canada.

Danielle Smith released a video today addressing six questions Albertans have been asking about the Meta AI data centre. What she conveniently left out is where this story actually gets interesting.

She never mentioned the $70 billion Wonder Valley project — the largest AI data centre in the world, also being built in Alberta. She called the levy "no taxpayer backstop," but didn't mention it doesn't start collecting until December 2026, and companies can offset it entirely through existing tax credits. She touted a 6% drop in your transmission bill — which works out to about $1.80 a month. And she never once mentioned Mark Carney's AI For All program, the $200 billion federal strategy that explains exactly who these data centres are really being built for.

A Liberal MP posted a video calling the Allison Inquiry — a non-partisan citizen-led inquiry into COVID vaccine injuries — nothing more than an attention-seeking political stunt. He laughed while saying "testimony doesn't equal causation."

Here's what he didn't mention: Canada's own government reported over 58,000 adverse event reports, with more than 11,700 considered serious. Out of the claims submitted to the federal compensation program, only 252 have ever been approved.

I break down exactly what Mark Gerretsen got wrong, why this inquiry exists in the first place, and why Canadians who were silenced, lost their careers, and are still fighting to get their injuries recognized deserve better than being mocked by the people who created this mess.

Edmonton Police posted a video showing examples of what they consider "hate speech," urging citizens to report it online. They blanked out key words in every comment — and disabled their comments section shortly after posting.

So we decided to read what those comments actually said.

Once you fill in the blanks, the picture looks very different from what Edmonton Police wants you to believe. But that's not even the real story.

The Edmonton Police Service has already deployed automatic license plate readers, tested Clearview AI facial recognition, and became the first police department in the world to trial AI facial-recognition body cameras — scanning faces in real time against a watchlist of thousands of people. Documents show the results of that pilot still haven't been made public, months after it ended. All while using algorithmic AI social media surveillance software.

Now they're asking citizens to report each other for what they post online.

This isn't about hate. This is about controlling what we can and cannot say. This is about control.

A viral video of a Sikh influencer being kicked out of GoodLife Fitness for wearing a visible, multi-knife setup has split Canadians into two camps — those who say GoodLife violated the Charter, and those who back the employee's decision.

But there's already a legal precedent here. In the landmark 2006 Supreme Court of Canada case Multani v. Commission scolaire Marguerite-Bourgeoys, the Court ruled that an absolute ban on the kirpan violates freedom of religion — but it's not a blanket protection. The ruling set specific conditions: the kirpan must be concealed under clothing, securely sheathed, and fixed in place to prevent easy removal.

So did this influencer actually meet those conditions?

I sit down with lawyer Daniel Freiheit, founder of Lion Advocacy, to break down what the ruling actually says, how it applies here, and why the same law that concealed carry of a knife is a criminal offence for most Canadians. The Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms is reporting that some Canadians are being contacted at home by government officials — over social media posts made months, even years ago.

But there's a problem: Bill C-9 isn't retroactive. It only applies to conduct on or after July 18th, when the law came into force. So if these posts are old, why are people being contacted now?

Mark Carney admitted he learned from Donald Trump.

And while he claims not to fully subscribe to Trump's flooding the zone tactic, that is exactly what he has been doing.

In just 14 weeks, the Liberal government passed 21 bills through the House of Commons. That is 1.5 bills a week. And out of those 21 bills, 7 were expedited using time allocation motions — essentially forcing bills through Parliament with limited debate.

Green Party Leader Elizabeth May, who has been an MP since 2011, called it the worst use of time allocation and omnibus bills she has ever seen. The Bloc, the NDP and the Conservatives all said the same thing.

But here is what nobody else is talking about.

Three of those rushed bills will fundamentally change how speech is handled in Canada.

Bill C-9 — The Combating Hate Act — criminalizes emotions and removes the good faith religious protection from the criminal code. It takes effect on July 18th.

Bill C-16 — The Protecting Victims Act — could make deliberately misgendering someone a criminal offence. Legal experts confirm the path to prison exists.

Bill C-22 — The Lawful Access Bill — forces Electronic Service Providers to store all of your metadata for up to one year without a warrant. And metadata is not even defined in the bill.

C-9 controls what you say. C-16 controls how you say it. C-22 lets the government monitor everything to make sure you comply.

This is not a coincidence. This is a strategy. And I will bet everything I own that when Parliament returns in September, Bill C-34 will be next.

Canada's gun ban challenge is currently before the Supreme Court. The ruling is not expected until mid to late next year. The amnesty is on hold yet Mark Carney just signaled that more gun bans are coming anyway.

The Liberal government has extended the amnesty period for owners of banned assault-style firearms.

Canada just announced the Digital Safety Act — a social media ban for anyone under 16.

Most Canadians think this is about protecting children. It isn't.

If You Thought Bill C-9 Was Bad... Think Again! It Just Got A Lot Worse

Bill C-9 was already one of the most concerning pieces of legislation in Canada.

Now senators have amended it.

Under the new changes, "residential school denialism" could become a criminal offence punishable by up to two years in prison.

But what exactly is denialism?

Who decides what qualifies as "downplaying" history?

Who decides what constitutes "misrepresenting facts"?

And why are politicians rushing to create new protections for some groups while remaining largely silent as more than 100 churches have been vandalized or destroyed across Canada?

Tonight on The Political Orphans, we break down the latest amendments to Bill C-9, what they mean for free speech, how they could impact public debate, and why many Canadians are becoming increasingly concerned about the direction of the country.

The question is no longer whether Bill C-9 is dangerous.

The question is: how much further are they willing to go?

A retired military judge and combat veteran received a visit from 2 Toronto police officers at his home last week for things he allegedly said online.

He recorded the entire interaction.

The charges? Harassing communications and 2 counts of failing to comply with probation.

The problem? The officers told him there were grounds to arrest him but refused to tell him what those grounds were — this seems like a direct violation of Section 10(a) of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms which requires police to inform you of the reasons for your arrest without delay.

This is not a random citizen. This is a combat veteran and retired military judge who understands exactly what is happening and why it matters.

Because this is not an isolated incident. Canadians are receiving police visits for social media posts.

Bill C-9 just had a residential school denialism amendment added that carries up to 2 years in prison. In the UK 13,000 people a year are arrested for online speech.

This is what Canada looks like when you let governments decide what you are allowed to say.
