S5 119. Your Content From Three Years Ago Is Someone's Perfect Starting Point — Don't Touch It22 juil. 202600:20:06

"Fake it till you make it" has always bothered me — not because the sentiment behind it is wrong, but because the framing removes power from the person saying it. It positions your current knowledge as a performance you're hoping no one notices, rather than a genuine stage of expertise that has real value for the people who are one step behind where you are now.

This episode started as a memory — something my guest Denise Duffield-Thomas said in our season four conversation that I kept coming back to while thinking about content creation, expert positioning, and the particular exhaustion that comes from feeling like you always need to know more before you publish. I'm playing a short clip from that interview, and then unpacking what it means for how you think about your podcast catalog, your current level of knowledge, and the question of what actually makes a podcast episode worth publishing.

Something I come back to often in my work with podcasters is the gap between what they know and what they believe they're allowed to say. The knowledge is there — compounding with every episode published, every client conversation, every industry shift they've tracked and responded to. What holds them back isn't expertise, but the story they're telling themselves about whether that expertise is enough yet.

S5 118. Three Quotes That Will Reframe How You Think About Your Podcast and Where It's Taking You08 juil. 202600:11:49

There's a particular kind of drift that sets in around the middle of the year. The energy of a January reset has worn off, the goals that felt motivating in Q1 are either achieved, abandoned, or quietly deprioritised, and what's left is the question of whether you're still doing this with intention or just doing it because it's what you do.

For podcasters, that question is worth sitting with.

In this episode, I'm sharing three quotes that came up again and again in client conversations this week, because they're about dreaming and daring, about the purpose a podcast should serve in your life, and about what it means to actually pay attention to who you're becoming as you build.

If you've never let yourself imagine how far the show could take you, you'll always be working inside limits you set without realising it.

S5 117. To Be or Not to Be a Podcast Episode: 10 Formats That Will Expand What You Think Is Possible01 juil. 202600:27:51

What counts as a podcast episode is a more open question than most people realise. The medium has evolved — from RSS-only audio on Apple devices (iTunes) to video-first vertical content filmed in a bedroom — and with that evolution, so has the range of what a podcast episode can actually look like. A three-minute focused answer, a segment clipped from a longer interview, a repurposed coaching hot seat: all of these qualify. Most podcasters just haven't given themselves permission to try them.

In this episode, I'm walking through 10 formats that are consistently underused by podcasters I work with — and it’s not because they're complicated, but because they challenge the default assumption that a podcast has to be long, polished, and produced from scratch every single time.

Plus, the episodes that tend to stick with listeners — the ones they remember, the ones they go back to — are rarely the ones that covered everything. They're the ones that nailed one thing, clearly, in exactly the time it took to say it.

S5 116. Why Your Podcast Feels Harder Despite Using the Same Systems (7 Reasons)24 juin 202600:10:28

You haven't changed your podcasting system. So why does it suddenly feel so much harder to create? The honest answer usually isn't the tools — it's that your life, your goals, or your business changed around a system that never did.

In this episode, I'm breaking down the seven most common reasons podcasters hit this wall — from outgrowing a hobbyist mindset to mistaking constant reinvention for innovation — and how to diagnose which one is actually slowing you down.

One of the most useful insights? The system that worked when your podcast was a hobby is often the exact thing holding it back now that you're treating it like a business.

As a podcast coach and strategist, one of the first things I look at with clients is whether their current systems still make sense for the goals they're working toward today — not the goals they had when they built the system. Here are the seven reasons I see most often.

  • Your life looked different when you built this system. A lot of shows started as a hobby, often during or before the pandemic, when time and routines looked completely different. Even if you're using the same process today, the life around that process has changed — and that shift shows up in how hard the work feels.
  • You blindly followed a successful podcaster's system. It's common to model your process after someone who was clearly doing well — without asking whether their approach fits how your brain actually works. Whether you create as a neurodivergent or neurotypical creator changes what feels sustainable versus what feels exciting in theory and exhausting in practice.
  • Your personal or work time has shrunk. New responsibilities — a new role, new caregiving demands, a promotion — change your bandwidth more than most people expect. It's not that your system stopped working; it's that the time and mental space available to run it disappeared.
  • You keep reinventing the wheel. Constantly switching tools, templates, and workflows feels like innovation, but it's often a way of avoiding boredom that ends up creating stress instead of consistency. Mastery takes repetition — and you can't feel competent at something you never stop changing.
  • Your hobbyist system doesn't hold up as a business. Treating a podcast as a monetizable product introduces requirements a hobby never had — strategic guest outreach, follow-up emails, pitching for press. The same effort that worked before now has to stretch across more moving parts.
  • You're bored, and the system no longer challenges you. If you've been running the same formula for years, it's worth asking whether you've simply outgrown it. The hard part is making space to notice that — which is exactly why batching shorter episodes during certain seasons can free up the mental bandwidth to actually evaluate your strategy.
  • Strategic content creates more friction than spontaneous content did. When you first started, talking about whatever felt fun was easy. Becoming more intentional — staying within your area of expertise, asking questions that lead back to your products — naturally adds friction. That's not a sign something's wrong. It's a sign you're up-leveling.

S5 115. I Tried to Record a Podcast in an Airport. Here's What Season 5 Experiments Will Look Like17 juin 202600:10:37

Deciding to take your podcast on the road is one of those ideas that feels obvious in theory and complicated in practice. The vision is clear — new exciting environments, vertical content, a lean setup, a fresh format. What nobody tells you is that the airport corner that looked quiet on camera sounds like a construction site in post-production.

This is season five of The Podcast Space, and I'm doing something different. I'm recording while traveling through four countries — with just a phone, a tripod, and a pair of mics — and turning the entire experiment into a case study for you. Every format decision, every mistake, every moment of "I'll just fix it in post" that didn't get fixed: it's all going in here for you to see.

One of the most useful insights from this season's launch? The question that stopped me from publishing a subpar episode is the same one I tell my clients every single time: does this last piece of content you published reflect your values, your ethics, and how you want to be perceived?

What Season 5 Actually Covers

For more focused guidance, book a discovery call to plan a content strategy that suits your goals and minimizes the overwhelming noise.

Alongside the format experiments, here's what I'm planning to dig into this season. This is not in any particular order — I'm giving myself some flexibility to follow what's most relevant as the season unfolds, including three bonus episodes.

1. Are systems overrated for podcast success? I'll be examining what's actually driving consistent output versus what just feels productive.

2. What makes a podcast description work for both humans and machines? A practical look at how to write descriptions that serve your listener and the algorithm at the same time.

3. The social media strategy most podcasters skip. And why skipping it is costing them reach they could be capturing with almost no extra effort.

4. What the biggest podcasters do — that you shouldn't copy. This one will challenge some common assumptions about what success looks like at scale.

5. What no one tells you about podcast seasons — and the specific thing that blindsided me and created a lot of unexpected stress. I'm turning it into a short, focused episode because it deserves its own space.

6. Why your podcast listeners aren't buying. I've been getting this question from clients consistently, and the answer isn't what most people expect.

7. Reframing the value of your podcast in your business. An episode I'm genuinely excited about — it will shift how you think about what your show is actually doing for you.

8. Live from The Podcast Show. Field recordings and conversations from the conference, with a heads-up that the audio will have some background noise — it's a live event, and that's part of it.

9. Incorporating listener feedback into your show. Testimonials, quotes, voice messages, and how to use them as content without it feeling awkward.

I also have one episode recorded at an undisclosed location that I'm not ready to reveal just yet.

S4 114. Counterintuitive Podcast Advice That Makes Audiences Want to Buy, with Denise Duffield-Thomas31 dƩc. 202501:10:29

Becoming a podcaster that people want to buy from rarely comes down to endless script revisions, long ads, or a more polished delivery. The shows that convert consistently tend to feel clear, intentional, and trustworthy long before an offer is ever mentioned. When listeners understand what you stand for and what to do next, buying stops feeling like a decision and starts feeling like a natural step.

In this episode, money mindset mentor, three-time author, and OG podcaster Denise Duffield-Thomas reveals the podcast choices that supported the growth of her multi-million-dollar business. Her approach challenges common assumptions about monetization and highlights how sustainable success is built through consistency, transparency, and systems that respect how people actually make decisions.

One of the most useful insights? How the 8 Money Archetypes decide when to buy.

This episode explores something I see come up again and again with podcasters: how our internal relationship with visibility and money quietly shapes every outward decision we make. Long before we talk about offers, those beliefs influence how clearly we communicate value, how confidently we frame our episodes, and whether listeners feel invited in or kept at a distance. Talking this through with Denise made it clear how much trust is built at this level, often without us realizing it.

Understanding Money Archetypes To Drive Sales

One of the most fascinating parts of our conversation explored the eight money archetypes - a money personality framework developed by Kendall Summerhawk, in which Denise is certified - and how understanding these archetypes helps podcasters design content and offers that align with how their audience actually makes buying decisions.

  1. Understand why Accumulators need clarity, reassurance, and an easy path to action - and how small friction points in your content or website can quietly block conversions.
  2. Discover why Maverick podcasters often abandon shows or offers that are already working, and how building flexibility into your content strategy prevents self-sabotage.
  3. See how Nurturers can shift from feeling guilty about selling to confidently monetizing their podcast by framing offers around impact, service, and care for others.
  4. Reframe ā€œtoo many ideasā€ as a strength for Alchemists, and learn how creating simple containers for content turns creativity into consistent momentum.
  5. Learn why Rulers don’t need motivation, but clear systems - and how a podcast becomes a scalable business asset when efficiency and leverage are prioritized.
  6. Understand how Connectors build trust through stories, humanity, and transparency - and why showing your process helps listeners feel safe engaging and buying.

Positioning also plays a key role here. Showing up as a contributor rather than an all-knowing authority creates a different kind of relationship with an audience. Listening to Denise reflect on learning alongside her listeners reminded me how trust deepens when people feel included rather than instructed.

Reassurance emerges as an important and often overlooked element. Some listeners need time, repetition, and confirmation before making decisions, and that isn’t hesitation to overcome - it’s a reality to design for. Clear messaging, consistent language, and social proof (incorporating listener voice messages as episode breaks, pre-roll ads, or even talking about their pain points frequently) help create that sense of safety.

S4 113. Inside Apple Podcasts & Spotify: How Listeners Actually Pick Their Next Show17 dƩc. 202500:29:30

Most podcasters assume discovery happens through social media, word of mouth, or being featured by the editorial teams at Apple Podcasts or Spotify. But the data tells a very different story. In this episode, I sit down with Jennifer Han, CMO at Ausha, to unpack how listeners actually choose their next podcast, and why most creators are optimizing for the wrong behaviors.

What surprised even me is how dominant in-app search has become.

According to the industry discovery research we discuss, one in two podcast listeners discover new shows directly inside podcast apps, and 70% of them use the search bar.

Editorial features and charts? They account for a fraction of discovery.

If you want to grow sustainably, understanding how Apple Podcasts and Spotify search really work it’s truly foundational to surpass your competitors.

S4 112. What 300+ Podcasters Reveal About Podcast Growth in 2025 (Podcast Marketing Trends Report)10 dƩc. 202500:40:16

If you ask most podcasters what they’re doing to grow their show, the answers sound familiar: posting clips on social media, chasing consistency, experimenting with video, and hoping the algorithm finally notices them. But when you look at the data - real, self-reported data from creators who’ve been at this for years - a different story emerges. Growth isn’t evenly distributed, and effort doesn’t automatically translate into momentum. Some podcasts with massive audiences are shrinking, while smaller, focused shows are quietly compounding month over month. The gap isn’t about talent or effort but it’s truly about strategy.

That’s why my conversation with Jeremy Enns stopped me in my tracks. As the researcher behind the Podcast Marketing Trends Report, Jeremy looks past tactics and into patterns. What stood out most wasn’t what podcasters should be doing, but what actually correlates with sustainable growth and what doesn’t. Even more striking: his personal recommendation for podcasters who want to grow without ever touching social media.

Not as a contrarian take, but as a data-informed one.

S4 110. Your Unconventional Background Is the Most Interesting Thing About Your Show19 nov. 202500:27:11

If having a small audience is the number one insecurity podcasters face, the second biggest is this one: ā€œMy background isn’t traditional enough… so who am I to host a podcast?ā€

Maybe you’ve wondered the same.

Maybe you’ve questioned whether your experience ā€œcounts,ā€ or whether you’re allowed to call yourself an expert.

Here’s the truth — the podcasters who stand out aren’t the ones with the most formal credentials. They’re the ones who understand how their lived experiences, soft skills, and natural strengths help them connect with listeners in a way no traditional path ever could. And in this episode, I’ll show you exactly how to tap into that.

You don’t need decades of experience or a perfect rĆ©sumĆ© to have a meaningful presence behind the mic. Listeners connect to shows that feel human — and humanity comes from perspective, not perfection. When you really think about the shows you love, it’s rarely about textbook expertise. It’s about how the host makes you feel understood.

Your past roles (even the unexpected ones) have given you tools you might not realize you have. Retail jobs? They train you to read emotions, understand insecurities, and create comfort — all skills that help you put guests at ease and show up confidently on camera or audio.

Hospitality teaches you to anticipate needs, calm nerves, and guide people through new experiences. If you’ve ever worked a service job, you’re already equipped to create a welcoming recording environment and a listener experience that feels intentional.

Maybe you’ve had communications, journalism, or content roles. Those experiences help you sharpen your hooks, verify information, tell stronger stories, and structure episodes that actually fulfill the promise of the title. These are transferable skills — not prerequisites you need to ā€œearn.ā€

If you've worked in nonprofit or mission-driven spaces, you already understand how to do a lot with limited resources. That ability to be scrappy, collaborative, and strategic is gold when building a sustainable podcasting workflow.

Your personal passions matter, too. Your interest in design, aesthetics, or visual storytelling? That’s exactly what helps you create a coherent brand and a recording setup that communicates trust and personality before you say a single word.

If you geek out on psychology or human behavior, that becomes the backbone of your listener journey — guiding people from ā€œI found this episode interestingā€ to ā€œI want to learn more,ā€ and eventually ā€œI want to work with this host.ā€

And when you look at other podcasters with non-traditional backgrounds — like Hetal, who used her curiosity as a biomedical engineer to break down global health topics, or Dani (Danilea), who built a wellness show rooted in inclusivity — you’ll see proof that you don’t need the ā€œright background.ā€ You need the right angle.

Your life, your perspective, your interests, and even your quirks make your show memorable. These elements shape your show’s promise and help listeners feel like they’re learning from someone who gets them — not someone performing expertise.

As AI-generated content becomes more common, the shows that win will be the ones rooted in lived experience, real stories, and genuine connection. Everything that makes you ā€œdifferentā€ is exactly what helps you stand out.

S4 109. Social Media for Podcasters: Dedicated Accounts vs. Personal Profiles for Maximum Engagement and Growth Strategies12 nov. 202500:25:23

Are you torn between creating a dedicated social media account for your podcast or integrating it into your personal brand? You're not alone!

In this episode of The Podcast Space, we’ll break down the critical decision many podcasters face regarding social media as a podcaster. With my extensive experience in podcast marketing, I’ll guide you through the nuances of this dilemma that keeps so many podcasters paralyzed and help you find the best path forward for your unique situation.

As an award-winning podcast marketer, I’ve worked with podcasters and small business owners around the globe, and I’ve seen firsthand how your approach to social media can significantly impact your podcast's success. I emphasize that the choice between a dedicated account and your personal brand hinges on several factors: your personal goals, the resources at your disposal, and how you want to engage with your audience. Understanding these elements is essential for crafting effective podcasting strategies and achieving your podcasting goals.

Throughout the episode, I'll present five critical questions that every podcaster should consider when deciding their social media strategy:

  • What is the main goal of your account?
  • How many platforms can you realistically manage?
  • Are you ready to develop a comprehensive strategy?
  • Do you want to go beyond the bare minimum?
  • And how can your listeners publicly share and discuss your show?

These questions are pivotal in shaping your podcast content strategy and ensuring that your social media efforts align with your overall podcast growth strategies.

I also explore the pros and cons of both approaches.

S4 108. How to Turn Your Podcast From a Time Sink Into a Sales Engine07 nov. 202500:24:00

For years, business owners have been told that starting a podcast is the ultimate marketing move — the one strategy that magically solves everything. And while I genuinely believe podcasts are among the most powerful visibility tools available, I’ve also seen how they can become a money-draining hobby instead of a high-ROI business asset.

After working with podcasters across four continents, I’ve realized that many are unknowingly leaving money on the table — not because their show isn’t great, but because their monetization strategy isn’t aligned with their business model. Let’s break down the five biggest ROI mistakes that could be quietly costing you growth and revenue.

Chapters:
  • 00:00 - The Power of Podcasts in Business
  • 00:53 - Common Mistakes in Podcast Monetization
  • 02:11 - Exclusive Deals vs. Broad Reach
  • 05:07 - The Importance of Product Promotion
  • 08:48 - Ad Breaks: A Missed Opportunity
  • 13:42 - Selling Without Being Salesy
  • 17:17 - The Fallacy of Affiliate Marketing

1. Exclusive Distribution Without a Data-Backed Return

Many business owners see creators landing ā€œexclusiveā€ deals with Spotify or Samsung and think that’s the ultimate success metric. But here’s the reality — exclusivity limits your reach unless the platform can prove it will drive revenue or audience growth. Unless they can show data, testimonials, or client case studies that back up the ROI, you’re better off being everywhere (including YouTube)!

2. Misalignment Between What You Sell and What You Say

This is one of the most expensive mistakes I see. Too many podcasters are producing content their ideal clients don’t actually need. If your episodes aren’t directly connected to the problems your business solves, you’re building awareness with the wrong audience.

3. Skipping Ad Breaks (and Missing Sponsorship Readiness)

Here’s a simple test: can someone listen to your show and instantly visualize where their ad could go? If not, you’re missing out. Even if you’re not running ads yet, including clear ad breaks (ā€œWe’ll be right back after this quick messageā€¦ā€) signals to brands that you understand structure.

4. Educating Endlessly — and Forgetting to Sell

A lot of purpose-driven creators fear that selling will make them sound pushy. But education without goal connection will lead to creator burnout. Today’s content landscape is noisy, and subtlety doesn’t pay the bills.

5. Prioritizing Affiliate Links Over Your Own Products

Affiliate links can be tempting, but they rarely create meaningful income for small, niche shows. Let’s do the math: promoting a $30/month tool with a 10% commission might earn you $3. Promoting your own $500 coaching session or $95 digital product could earn you hundreds or thousands.

The Real ROI Shift: Treating Your Podcast Like a Business Tool

When you start structuring your podcast like a revenue engine — not a random content platform — everything changes. You create episodes intentionally. You align your call-to-actions. You attract sponsors who share your values. And suddenly, your show isn’t an expense — it’s an asset.

Podcasting is still one of the most effective visibility tools for service-based business owners. The difference between a show that drains your energy and one that drives consistent ROI is strategy.

S4 107. The YouTube Features Podcasters Can’t Live Without in 2026 (and What’s Just Hype)29 oct. 202500:26:48

If you’re serious about growing your podcast in 2026, YouTube is no longer a ā€œnice to haveā€ā€”it’s a core part of your podcast marketing strategy. This year, YouTube rolled out a wave of new tools that make the platform friendlier than ever to creators who want to grow sustainably without burnout. From AI-powered analytics to auto-dubbing in 20+ languages, these updates are transforming how podcasters reach global audiences, collaborate smarter, and monetize content more effectively.

But here’s the real question: which of these features actually move the needle for podcasters—and which are just shiny distractions? In this episode of The Podcast Space, I welcome video strategist Yesenia Bocanegra to break down what’s essential for growth, what to experiment with, and what you can safely ignore (at least for now).

The Must-Try Features for Podcasters on YouTube

The new AI analytics in YouTube Studio are one of my favorite additions. They make it so much easier to understand how each episode performs, which content connects most with listeners, and where new subscribers are coming from. I’ve always loved data, but let’s be honest—it can be overwhelming. This update finally makes analytics feel approachable, even for creators who aren’t data nerds.

Then there’s the collaboration feature, which has been an absolute game changer for me. I tested it by tagging past guests in older videos, and after collaborating with sponsorship coach Justin Moore, I saw a 700% increase in views in just two weeks. It’s one of those ā€œlow effort, high rewardā€ features that breathe new life into your back catalog. I now see collaborations as part of my passive marketing strategy—a simple but powerful way to extend reach without constantly creating new content.

Chapters:

  • 00:07- Leveraging YouTube’s New Collaborations Tool for Audience Growth

S4 106. Analyzing Podcast Content Strategies from Top Business Podcasters That You Can Replicate23 oct. 202500:44:24

Ever wondered what are successful business owners who podcast doing in 2025 that regular podcasters can replicate?

The answer lies in how these entrepreneurs treat their shows as part of a larger, data-informed ecosystem—not just as a content stream. This year, podcasting for business growth is about alignment, experimentation, and audience intimacy.

To find out what’s actually working, I analyzed two powerhouse podcasters—Jasmine Star and Chris Do—both of whom have a catalog of over 300 episodes, and built thriving businesses before launching their shows. Their podcasts don’t make their brands; they amplify them. Here’s what 2025’s most strategic business podcasters are doing differently—and how you can borrow their best moves.

S3 104. Ways to Promote Your Podcast in Between Seasons (Plus Grow Listener Engagement and Downloads)04 juin 202500:14:16

How do you promote your podcast in between seasons? For many podcasters, that question can feel overwhelming — so they end up doing nothing. But going dark between seasons doesn’t mean your show has to lose momentum. In fact, it's a missed opportunity if you're not keeping your audience engaged and attracting new listeners during the downtime.

In this episode, I’ll walk you through specific strategies to market your podcast even when you're not actively releasing new content. We'll cover social media, email newsletters, and less-talked-about tactics that balance high and low effort, so you can stay visible without burning out.

Before promoting in between seasons, ask yourself ā€˜why’

Let’s start with the ā€œwhy.ā€ Promoting your podcast between seasons is key if you want to maintain listener engagement, attract new audiences, and keep your show top of mind. People forget content fast, and even your best episodes get buried in the feed. Resurfacing those episodes gives them new life — especially for new followers who haven’t heard them yet.

One misconception I hear often is, ā€œIf I stop publishing, I’ll lose my audience forever.ā€ That’s partly true — people fill their routines with other content, and if you’re absent, they’ll move on. But here’s the fix: give them a place to stay connected. Use your email list or social media to let them know when you’ll be back.

Communicate. Create reminders. Set expectations.

Chapters:

  • 00:00:00 – Why your show still needs visibility even when you're not publishing new episodes
  • 00:01:30 – How audience habits and memory impact re-engagement — and why reminders matter
  • 00:02:30 – Before you market: define whether you're building visibility, growing your email list, or prepping for a launch
  • 00:03:30 – What really happens when you stop publishing — and how to avoid losing your audience
  • 00:05:00 – How to repurpose past episodes with new context, visuals, and formats
  • 00:07:00 –Forgot to mention something in an episode? Here's how to update and reshare it effectively
  • 00:08:00 – Engaging your audience with live Q&As, former guests, and timely follow-ups
  • 00:09:00 – Themed email sequences, updated visuals, and related episode links to keep listeners coming back
  • 00:10:30 – Why your website and YouTube presence matter — and how they help grow your audience off social media
  • 00:12:30 – Newsletter swaps, RSS digests, and why repurposing content is better than starting from scratch

S3 101. The Creator's Path to Success with Top 0.5% Podcaster Jay Clouse: Embracing Experimentation14 mai 202500:27:37

The creator economy is on the rise—projected to skyrocket to an eye-popping $450 billion by 2026. As a podcaster and digital creator, I know firsthand how tempting it is to focus only on monetization: merch, memberships, sponsorships. But in this ever-evolving space, a more critical question lingers—how do we make intentional, focused decisions that not only increase revenue but build sustainable, long-term growth?

Jay Clouse is the host of Creator Science and a trusted voice in the creator economy. His work empowers digital creators to think differently, work smarter, and become trusted voices in their industry. During our conversation—recorded amidst the clamor of real-life home construction—I was reminded that high-level thinking doesn’t need a flawless backdrop. In fact, embracing the messy middle might be one of the most powerful things a creator can do.

Chapters:
  • 00:02:30 – What it truly means to be a creator vs being an artist.
  • 00:04:30 – The stages of the creator journey and why mapping the audience’s emotional arc matters.
  • 00:07:00 – Embracing imperfect content and showing the messy middle.
  • 00:08:30 – Sharing vulnerabilities while maintaining audience trust.
  • 00:11:30 – Redefining success and the question of what "enough" looks like.
  • 00:14:30 – Why YouTube was a long game and when it finally became worthwhile.
  • 00:16:30 – How publishing less but with higher quality led to rapid YouTube growth.
  • 00:25:30 –"Experimentality" as a mindset for growth through experimentation.
  • 00:26:30 – How small, consistent improvements lead to big creator success.

So, if you’ve been feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure about your next step as a creator, this episode is your permission slip to keep going—but with more intention and curiosity. Let this be your reminder: growth is rarely linear, and clarity comes through action.

And the result?

S3 98. Why Women Are Listening to More Podcasts Than Ever: And What That Means for Hosts23 avr. 202500:42:54

It’s 2025, and women in the U.S. are listening to podcasts at three times the rate they were just a decade ago.

If you’re a podcaster speaking to a female audience—or thinking about starting a show—this is your moment. And in this week’s episode, I brought in YouTube and video podcast strategist Yesenia Bocanegra so that we could discuss Women’s Audio Report: Women & Podcasts, the latest Edison Research & SiriusXM study that highlights female listener behavior.

The study reveals how women in the U.S. are consuming podcasts in 2025, what content they’re looking for, and how we - as podcasters, marketers, and business owners - can show up with more intention, strategy, and impact.

But this isn’t just a data breakdown. It’s a conversation about storytelling, emotional connection, and why podcasting continues to be one of the most intimate and powerful mediums out there. Especially for women.

While video podcasts are gaining traction, audio still leads:

  • 52% of women overall consume podcasts
  • 45% listen to audio-only shows
  • 33% watch video podcasts

The rise of smart TVs as a podcast consumption device is a game changer — especially for creators repurposing content on YouTube.

Chapters:

  • 00:00 – Intro: Why Women Are Listening to More Podcasts Than Ever
  • 01:50 – Podcasting Is Still Worth It: The 60 Million Listener Opportunity
  • 04:35 – Audio vs. Video Podcasting: What the Data Really Says
  • 06:30 – Who Is the Female Podcast Listener in 2025?
  • 08:20 – The Emotional Why: Inspiration, Escapism, and Life Challenges
  • 11:00 – What Genres Are Women Really Listening To?
  • 14:05 – Social Media and Discovery: How Women Find New Podcasts Now
  • 17:10 – Representation Matters: Why Female Hosts Connect More Deeply
  • 21:25 – How Listeners Take Action: From Follows to Subscriptions
  • 25:40 – What You Should Do With This Data
  • 27:10 – Co-Listening With Kids: Podcasting as a Family Bonding Tool
  • 30:20 – Monetization Insights: How Female Listeners Support Creators
  • 33:45 – Final Thoughts

S3 97. Feeling Stuck While Others Thrive? Here’s How to Actually Land Podcast Opportunities16 avr. 202500:12:12

Ever feel like everyone else is getting podcast opportunities but you? Sponsorships, speaking engagements, media features, awards - you keep seeing other creators win them while you’re stuck wondering, What am I missing?

This episode breaks down the real reasons you might not be landing those dream podcast opportunities—and it has nothing to do with talent. If you want to build a reputation in your niche, get recognized by your peers, or monetize your podcast through visibility, this episode is a must-listen.

šŸŽ§ Perfect for:

Podcasters who are ready to grow their platform, attract professional opportunities, and get unstuck from comparison or imposter syndrome.

Chapters:
  • 00:00 – Feeling Behind While Others Get Ahead
  • 01:45 – Why Mindset Keeps Podcasters Stuck
  • 03:20 – How Fear of Rejection Impacts Your Actions
  • 04:33 – Reaching Out Strategically (Email + LinkedIn Tips)

  • 07:12 – Building Credibility Over Time (Not Overnight)
  • 09:00 – How to Stay Generous Without Getting Bitter
  • 10:25 – Quick Recap & Next Steps

Stop Waiting—Start Pitching

There’s a common thread among podcasters who land deals, grow visibility, and get big wins: they ask for it. Most awards, sponsorships, and speaking spots are not invitations—they’re self-submitted. Ana shares why waiting for permission is keeping you small, and how your next opportunity might be one pitch away.

S3 95. Full Website or Single Podcast Page? A Strategic Guide for Podcasters with Aime Cox02 avr. 202500:50:29

Have you ever felt like your podcast is a hidden treasure just waiting to be discovered? You're not alone. Many podcasters are sitting on a goldmine of content, unaware of how to leverage it for greater visibility and growth. In my recent conversation with Aime Cox, founder of Studio Cotton, we delved into the nitty-gritty of maximizing podcast exposure through effective website strategies, and the insights were too valuable not to share.

Chapters:
  • 00:00 Introduction and Common Podcasting Questions
  • 01:14 SEO and Content Strategies for Podcasters
  • 03:29 Website Strategies for Podcasters
  • 07:36 Optimizing Episode Pages for SEO
  • 13:08 Leveraging Backlinks and Internal Links
  • 16:40 Monetizing and Promoting Your Podcast
  • 21:10 SEO Maintenance and Optimization Tips
  • 24:50 Boosting Local SEO for Your Podcast
  • 25:08 Maximizing Sponsor Visibility
  • 25:34 Creating Helpful Links and Pitching Guidelines
  • 26:51 Importance of Sponsorship Packages and Media Kits
  • 28:41 Debating Podcast Landing Pages vs. Hosting Platforms
  • 31:10 SEO Benefits of Podcast Content
  • 32:59 Using Transcripts and Show Notes for SEO
  • 34:38 Recommended Tools for Podcasters
  • 37:08 Investing in a Professional Podcast Website
  • 38:36 Using 'We' vs. 'I' in Your Brand
  • 49:00 Conclusion and Final Thoughts

Why Your Podcast Needs Its Own Space

One of the first things Aime emphasized was the importance of having a dedicated space for your podcast. Too often, podcasters lump their shows onto a business website without realizing that a podcast requires a unique strategy. A podcast website should be its own brand, focused on driving engagement and subscribership without compromising the business goals of your website.

The best time to consider separating your podcast into its own domain is when you're ready to grow it into an independent entity. This shift allows you to create focused content that attracts specific audiences and, in turn, delivers more meaningful leads to your associated business.

S3 94. Is It Time to Hire a Podcast Coach? Clearing Up Myths and Finding the Right Fit26 mars 202500:25:37

When is it time to hire a podcast coach?

This question pops up frequently on my social media, and I thought it was high time to address it, especially considering the myths and mysteries surrounding the process. Who truly qualifies for a podcast coach, and who doesn't? Do you need a certain number of downloads or all the ā€˜pieces perfectly in place’ before you pursue coaching? This episode will draw from the questions I often receive on my Instagram DMs and behaviors I've noticed since working closely with podcasters as a podcast producer since 2018.

The insights I'll share come from my experiences, conversations with industry experts, and a strong focus on women, multilingual individuals, and underrepresented communities in podcasting. Since launching my company in 2020, I’ve worked with podcasters globally, from Australia to South Africa, Sweden, and Mexico, which has provided me with a truly international perspective on the medium. Many strategies have been tested across cultures, so let's dive in:

S3 92. Think Newsletters Are Too Hard? Try These 5 Easy Formats for Podcasters!14 mars 202500:21:37

Get your Guide: https://bit.ly/Newsletters-podcasters

Are you feeling burned out from using social media as your main tool to grow your podcast and engage with your listeners? Do you wish there was a more efficient way to create content that required less hands-on time? Enter email marketing, an age-old tool that’s as effective today as ever.

Chapters:

  • 00:00 Introduction to Email Marketing for Podcasters
  • 01:36 The Power of Email Marketing
  • 03:10 Common Misconceptions and Challenges of Podcasters

  • 17:36 Tools and Strategies for Success for Podcast Hosts
  • 19:33 Conclusion and Special Offer

The Hidden Gem in Podcast Marketing

Many podcasters shy away from email marketing, overthinking its complexities and harboring misconceptions about what a successful newsletter entails. But here’s the truth: email marketing can drastically increase your chances of monetization and help grow your podcast audience. I've tested the strategies I’m about to share not only for my brand, The Podcast Space, but also for my clients who have longed to start a newsletter but felt defeated by the dreaded "empty page syndrome."

Why Email Marketing Matters

Did you know email marketing offers one of the best returns on investment? For every dollar you spend, you're likely to gain $36 back. That’s a staggering 3600% ROI! Despite being one of the oldest marketing tools, it’s highly effective in connecting with audiences and driving sales. One of the biggest advantages for brands is its trackability, which can be murkier in the podcasting realm.

The Power of Connection

For podcasters, newsletters offer a level of intimacy and directness that social media often cannot. Unlike the noise on social media feeds, where only about 1-4% of your audience sees your content, emails land directly in your subscribers’ inboxes, offering a distraction-free way to engage with your content. This direct line to your audience is invaluable.

S2 88. Transforming 'Once-in-a-Lifetime' into Everyday Opportunities Through Podcasting04 dƩc. 202400:15:42

I’ve always had a bit of ā€˜beef' with the expression "an opportunity of a lifetime."

For me, it’s steeped in a scarcity mindset that we’re better off leaving behind. So in this episode, I’ll share how we can utilize podcasting to embrace an expansive mindset, where opportunities aren't just once-in-a-lifetime but are abundant and recurring.

Turning a ā€˜once in a lifetime opportunity’ into a recurring one

Having moved countries twice and successfully moved states in the past 30 days, I can confidently say podcasting is one of the most powerful tools for building influence and securing opportunities - no matter where you are in the world. It’s not about waiting for the right chance to stumble upon your path or waiting for gatekeepers to reply to your emails. Instead, it's about being proactive, visible, and intentional with your podcast to reach your business goals and connect to highly coveted decision-makers.

Chapters:
  • 00:00 Introduction: Challenging the Scarcity Mindset
  • 01:13 The Power of Podcasting
  • 02:16 Visibility and Proactive Action
  • 04:24 Leveraging Public Speaking and Networking

S2 86. When and How to Effectively Measure Your Podcast Metrics: A Business Owner's Guide20 nov. 202400:15:05

As a business owner, you're familiar with measuring key metrics: leads, website traffic, profits, and losses. But when it comes to your podcast, how often should you track its progress? In this episode, I will delve into how frequently you should measure your podcast's success and what specific metrics you should be monitoring to ensure you're not wasting time or missing crucial opportunities.

Why Should Business OwnersTrack Podcast Metrics?

Your podcast is a pivotal part of your business’s digital footprint. Despite the numerous moving pieces in running a business, it's essential not to neglect your podcast's growth. For those wondering about the optimal frequency for tracking, you're not alone. Many podcast hosts grapple with measuring audience engagement, subscriber growth, and episode consumption.

Download numbers aren't the only metric worth checking.

In fact, many business owners fail to capitalize on a simple yet effective metric: asking your listeners how they heard about you.

Including your podcast in forms or dropdown menus on your website can provide invaluable insight into how your audience finds and interacts with your content, and stop the guessing game about which channels are converting the best!

S2 85. The Real Reason Your Podcast Isn't Attracting Dream Guests or Clients13 nov. 202400:15:08

Have you ever found yourself scouring the internet, questioning why your podcast isn’t growing, why you're not booking those dream guests, or why your listeners aren’t converting into devoted customers?

It’s likely rooted in a content strategy that’s a little too safe. Sure, frameworks and best practices are important, but they aren’t the end-all. Sometimes, it’s necessary to dive into problems to effectively solve them—and that’s the essence of this episode’s topic.

Broadening Your Guest Base

Another pitfall is inviting the same circle of guests repeatedly. While familiarity breeds comfort, it can also lead to a ā€œclubbyā€ atmosphere that may alienate listeners. Instead, seek out new voices that bring fresh perspectives, even if stepping out of your comfort zone feels daunting. An exception, of course, is recurring guests who consistently provide value and deliver fresh insights to your audience.

S2 83. How to Measure Your Podcast’s Impact on Your Influence & Network30 oct. 202400:12:32

Can podcasts really improve the quality of your network? If so, how do you achieve that? We've all heard the saying that your net worth is your network. For those seeking to enhance the quality of their network—whether it's to increase influence by association or connect with truly influential individuals—it's essential to consider what "influential" actually means.

How do you measure the quality of those connections, and determine if having a podcast is worthwhile? Let's dive into this week's insights on leveraging podcasts to grow your network.

Want to be an influential podcaster? Start with high quality content

To truly push the quality of your network forward, the people you invite to your show and the conversations you have must add value.

S2 82. What is a podcast content strategist and why does your podcast need one?23 oct. 202400:20:49

As the host of The Podcast Space, I've seen firsthand what makes podcasts soar to success.

It's not just about consistently releasing content or maintaining high quality—it's about having a (bold) vision, pushing the envelope, and ensuring you're not navigating this journey alone. That's where a podcast content strategist comes into play.

What is a Podcast Content Strategist?

A common misconception is that podcast strategists are interchangeable with podcast producers or editors. However, these roles are distinct. While an editor hones in on the technical aspects and aesthetics of audio and written content, a strategist takes a comprehensive, data-driven approach to ensuring the content aligns with your brand, audience, goals, and market trends.

Understanding Your Demographics: The Key to Podcast Success

A podcast strategist delves deep into the analytics of your podcast, examining your data, demographics, and audience behavior. Whether you're launching a new podcast or hoping to reinvigorate an existing one, understanding your audience through analytics is essential, guiding decisions on content format, length, and themes.

S2 79. Passing the Vibe Check: Passively Marketing Your Podcast Through Platforms02 oct. 202400:17:15

Do you think your podcast would pass the vibe check? And by vibe check, I don't just mean looking cool. I'm talking about whether your ideal listener, seeking new shows without any personal recommendation influencing their decision, will click on your show. Will they play episodes? Will it be a show they become obsessed with?

This is the episode, or should I say, the blog post for you if you’re interested in incorporating more passive marketing strategies alongside your active marketing strategies to grow your show.

Passive Marketing Success: Optimizing Your Podcast Using Your Profile Perception is Everything

You’ve heard the saying, "Don't judge a book by its cover." But the reality is, we do. As a business owner, your podcast plays a huge role in how people perceive your brand. Often, when people launch their podcast, they overlook the perception a new listener has when they see their branding for the first time. Oftentimes, we are used to people coming to us because someone else recommended our work.

Yet, there is real untapped potential for SEO and appearing in search results. Thus, I want to focus on the elements that most people perceive, not just the vibe. So, if you are a business owner, think about how you present yourself to your community. How does your brand look and feel?

A big element we sometimes forget is how people perceive our brand in a quick, snap judgment. The five elements in your profile can be detrimental or beneficial to your brand when done right. Let’s explore these elements: the title, cover art, description of the show, episode titles, and episode description.

Chapters:
  • 00:00 Intro: Passing the Vibe Check
  • 00:21 Understanding Passive Marketing Strategies
  • 00:44 Brand Perception and Podcasting
  • 01:59 Five Key Elements to Optimize Your Podcast
  • 03:46 Crafting Effective Podcast Titles
  • 06:38 The Importance of Cover Art
  • 09:29 Optimizing Episode Titles and Descriptions
  • 13:29 Enhancing Audio Quality for Engagement
  • 16:33 Conclusion: Continuous Improvement in Podcasting

S2 78. Marketing, Metrics, and Mindset: A Season 2 Preview And 3 Big News You Can't Miss30 sept. 202400:11:44
Can You Get Podcast Downloads Without Actively Marketing It?

I often get asked, "What would happen if I didn't promote my podcast at all?" In this episode, I'll share what I found when I tested this out on my podcast between Seasons 1 and 2 of the show.

I'll discuss the impact on my downloads, traffic, retention, brand, and social media.

I wanted to create a season preview about what the new season will bring while telling you what happens if you neglect podcast promotion. By doing so, I also hope to help you avoid seeing zero downloads on that dashboard—a traumatic scenario for any podcaster. I understand the effort put into creating a show, only to have no listeners can be disheartening. So, let's dive into this topic and discuss a few big changes happening behind the scenes.

The Consequences of Not Promoting Your Podcast

What happens if you decide not to promote your podcast at all? I did a little experiment—I did mention the podcast once in a newsletter—but for almost three months, I didn't promote it on social media or through my newsletter, except for that one time. So, what happened?

I looked at the data right before recording this episode and here's what I found:

  1. Shift in Platform Use: There was a notable shift in platform use. While Spotify has seen growth among users, especially where Android is more prevalent, my US-based audience primarily uses Apple devices. This shift was surprising and suggests behavioral (or audience) changes among listeners, with Spotify launching new features contributing to this change.
  2. Analysis of the Data: Comparing an almost 90-day period of not promoting my podcast to the previous 90-day period, I saw a 30% drop in downloads and unique listeners. This number is interesting as it held consistent across downloads and unique listeners.
  3. Impact on Video Content: The impact was also felt on YouTube, where I had lower view durations and 40% fewer views compared to the previous period. Google continued to drive traffic to my podcast pages due to SEO optimizations, ensuring a steady stream of new traffic. However, without promotion, this viewership decreased.
  4. Consumption Impact: There was also a decline in consumption, with listeners not engaging as deeply with the episodes. This is consistent with attracting "cold traffic" – new audiences unfamiliar with my content.
  5. Inactive Status on Platforms: My podcast showed as inactive on some platforms, which could discourage potential sponsors or new listeners who want active content creators. Despite this, I continued to receive numerous pitches for guest spots, despite not featuring guests for a while.

Embracing Major Changes

Now, let's discuss some exciting news I previously shared on Instagram.

Initially, I planned for about 20 episodes of solos and interviews, but I've decided against it. I'm moving from Dallas, Texas to Bentonville, Arkansas due to my husband's job! To ensure consistency, I've pre-recorded all content in my office. This means a consistent look and sound for the show - something extremely important if you’re trying to create a professional image of your show.

The Three M's: Marketing, Metrics, and Mindset

The theme for this season is very strategic: Marketing, Metrics, and Mindset. These elements are crucial and interrelated. During my coaching and consulting sessions, I often see clients benefitting from adjustments in these areas. Here’s a peek into the topics we’ll cover:

  1. Passively Attracting and Converting Listeners: Learn how to enhance your podcast profile and attract listeners without aggressive promotion.
  2. Crucial Podcast Metrics: Discover the top three podcast metrics that every business owner should track to grow their show—and no, it isn't just about the downloads!
  3. Overcoming Limiting Beliefs: Understand how limiting beliefs can stifle your podcast’s growth and what steps to take to overcome these barriers.

This season will feature ten episodes. I invite you to sign up for The Podcast Space newsletter to receive these episodes directly in your inbox through our RSS automation.

S1 76. How podcast coaching and strategy helped my client Fanny Dunagan win an award, reduce overwhelm and scale the podcast26 juin 202400:28:33

Do you wish you could optimize and scale your podcast processes so that when you're looking at your show, you actually feel excited to hit record, publish, and talk to your guests, rather than feeling overwhelmed? As podcast hosts, we have so much to think about, and sometimes, we don't have the time to think strategically about our show, and determine which actions will drive us forward or hold us back.

In this podcast episode, I'm thrilled to recount my experience working with my Podcast Power Hour Retainer client Fanny Dunagan, a LinkedIn content strategist for people in tech through her company, Pathlinks. Even though Fanny is an experienced content creator, her struggles and successes are shared by less experienced podcasters so if you’re still in the early months of your podcast journey, take a listen.

S1 75. How to create a podcast that is relevant all year long + 1 secret strategy19 juin 202400:14:49

What will help you move the needle on your podcast in the most effective way? How can you create a podcast that stays relevant, helps you achieve your goals, and serves your audience? This episode will dive into exactly that.

Embrace Imperfection and Consistency

When you're creating a podcast, remember that conditions don’t need to be perfect to create value. Consistency is key. Your listeners value reliability; they appreciate knowing when to expect new episodes and what kind of value they will get. Focus on the content and its value to your audience over perfect conditions or settings. This thought process will help keep your podcast relevant and build a loyal audience.

S1 74. Podcast Audiences' Listening Habits Revealed: Insights to better grow your show12 juin 202400:22:19

Podcasts are more popular than ever, transcending generations, countries, races, and backgrounds. So you might be wondering, "Okay, people are listening, but where and when are they tuning in? And how can I optimize my podcast for growth?"

That's exactly what we'll dive into today. I'm Ana Xavier, a podcast marketing expert, here to break down actionable insights you can apply to your show and understand your audience better.

Evaluating Audience Listening Habits

If you’re listening to this in real time, it's June, and summer is knocking on the door. You might be asking, "Should I release new episodes or take a break to optimize my processes and learn more about my audience?" The answer hinges on understanding where your listeners are and how to keep them engaged.

In this episode, I delve into two reports: the Podcast Consumer Report by Edison Research (released in May 2024) and the 2023 Podcast Edition of the Fan Study by Spotify for Podcasters.

Audience Behavior Across the Year

Research indicates that podcast consumption is influenced by specific times of the year. Key periods for gaining new listeners include January, March, July, and October. These months coincide with specific life events and seasonal changes, making them prime times for listener engagement.

Research also advises against releasing new shows in November due to the busy holiday season, which can make acquiring new listeners more challenging.

How to Prep for an Event

Optimizing your presence before the event is key to getting those download numbers. Here are some steps:

1. **Profile Setup**: If the event has an app, upload a professional and recognizable photo. Fill out the description with keywords and relevant information to make you easier to find.

2. **Links**: Include links to your social media, website, and podcast.

3. **Engage Early**: Engage with others on the event's app or platform. Reach out to attendees and set meeting times.

4. **Use Hashtags**: Promote your presence with the event’s hashtag. This can boost your visibility on social media.

5. **Business Cards**: Collect business cards or take screenshots. Follow up after the event to solidify connections.

6. **Merch and Outfits**: Take branded swag like stickers, books, or merch. Wear something recognizable—like branding colors or themed accessories—to make a lasting impression.

S1 71. How podcasts can turn hosts into agents of change for themselves and their communities22 mai 202400:25:31

Have you ever wondered if by creating podcast episodes you're adding to the internet noise... or perhaps you're lacking motivation because you're not having the ripple effects you were expecting with your content?

Let me share that podcasts can become effective tools for change during times of personal, social, and political unrest. So in this episode of The Podcast Space, I invited Yesenia Bocanegra, host of the Focus and Bloom podcast to dive into the concept of fostering community through podcasts and the ripple effects of even the smallest actions.

Yesenia shares her personal journey of overcoming limiting beliefs and the power of authenticity in content creation. The conversation also touches on the importance of encouragement and support among creators, especially women. The biggest takeaway of this episode is perhaps the significance of pursuing one's (podcast) passion and the unexpected positive impact it can have on others.
