This episode was written by Weird Tales Legend Clark Ashton Smith. For those unfamiliar with his work, the quote that I think best sums up his general vibe was one said by fellow author and critic L. You've heard the stories about alien-like beasts roaming around on the outskirts of Cleveland Ohio. Legend has it they used to be orphaned children experimented on by an evil doctor, then turned loose and left to go feral in the woods. 

Well, that's all nonsense. Today we bring you the true story of the Cleveland Melonheads, as told by the man behind the legend. 

In this tale by prolific Nosleep author Travis Brown, two men attending an AA meeting help each other with their addictions.

Welcome to the 200th episode of Lime and Punishment! You asked for it, and we listened, so today we're finally covering the Beast of Berwick! I wrote this story in 2016 and it's been heavily re-edited for this episode, as I now know how to use commas in a slightly less annoying way. But it is still very much a time capsule of my writing back then. It's also a bit of a time capsule of what I would call the only sort of paranormal experience I've ever had as it's (very loosely) inspired by real events. We wanted to air this story for our Halloween special because I'll be telling the real story that inspired it on a friend's podcast soon. 

Anyone who browsed Nosleep back around 2017 or so knows the username u/iia. Anytime he posted you knew you were in for a weird and probably gross time. He's since moved to his own website; Unsettlingstories.com where you can find his work archived. We are very excited to present our rendition of his story The Cave in the Lake, which follows a man who decided to reignite his passion for scuba diving, and the wonders he finds beneath the waves. 

The dog doesn't die in this one, but it is already dead. 

This story was featured in what is widely regarded as the single worst issue of Weird Tales Magazine ever published. When I sent it to Kevin to narrate he said "Why have you done this to me?" I don't know if I would describe it as a "good" story but I love it, so now you all have to listen to it (If you know what I mean).

Really though, I wrote this one in 2017 for Nosleep under an old pen name. It was probably the story I was most proud of back then, and I'm excited to share this little glimpse into the past with you guys.
