Barbie Princess Adventure26 Sep 202001:32:43

Episode 33: As a departure from our usual episodes, Emma and Henry take the time to discuss and review the newly released movie, 2020's Barbie Princess Adventure. Listen as we see this new cast of characters, interesting songs, and random goats and Try it on! (it makes more sense when you see the movie). Aside from that, SPOILERS for the new movie if you want to go in blind to this movie.

DISCLAIMER: Since the publishing of this episode, a listener got into contact with us and pointed out some problems with our last episode. In it, we talked about how the Nikki dolls started to use "More accurate black hair" compared to older dolls, but this was not accurate. Though we did want to make a point of Barbie and Mattel's efforts of increasing diversity within the brand, we reinforced the idea that there is a "right" way to be black or a person of color, when there is in fact a wide amount of diversity to be seen in and outside of media. We try to call out any examples of racially "questionable" things whenever we see them. Though we haven't done as good a job as we could do when it comes to articulating these thoughts and observations, which has resulted in us perpetuating these same things. We don't want to say this as an excuse or as a request for forgiveness, but we do want to further commit to our goal of addressing these topics with more maturity and foresight through research and listening to more perspectives about Barbie and her place in history.

Two movies, in fact, Goonies and Air buddies. In addition to that we contemplate the eldritch implications of the setting, what an Ari Aster Barbie movie would look like, and the many great movies and shows that the crew worked on outside of this movie.

Barbie: The Pearl Princess19 Jun 202001:16:15

Episode 26:

This week, we watch another mermaid movie with Barbie: The Pearl Princess. What makes this movie different from the other mermaid movies? Well! We have a great menagerie of needless cruelty to fish, an amazing Old Crone character that deserves more screen time, a creepy octopus, and some crotch pearls. What more could you want?

Since our last episode, Mattel posted that they will commit money towards NAACP Youth programs and other black education programs. While we are unsure if we had any hand in this, we know that the fight is still continuing, and we encourage you to visit https://blacklivesmatters.carrd.co/ to see how you can further help fight against racial injustice in this country. In addition to this, Henry will be performing in a charity stream for the National Bail fund on June 20th, 5pm EST, where he will be performing with the Worlds Elsewhere Theatre company in their production of A Midsummer Night's Dream. Barbie and her Sisters in A Pony Tale05 Jun 202001:20:57

Episode 25:

Before we get to talking about the latest barbie movie Barbie and her Sisters in a Pony Tale, we want to put a call out to all of our listeners to stand with us in solidarity of black Americans throughout the country that are continually murdered and exploited by our justice system. While we suggest you look into http://blacklivesmatter.carrd.co/ to see how you can volunteer, protest, and donate. We also want you to help us get Mattel to donate to these causes as well by emailing the Mattel Children's Foundation at Foundation@mattel.com and demanding that they commit to their promises to "Stand in solidarity with [their] Black colleagues and the entire Black community." by financially supporting those who need it most.

We have provided a document that you can copy and paste in your email to the foundation, any call to action is appreciated: https://bit.ly/PayUpMattel

We hope you stay safe and strong out there, and we hope justice is achieved. #Blacklivesmatter #PayUpMattel

Barbie: Mariposa & the Fairy Princess22 May 202001:26:52

Episode 24:

For one last time, we journey through the rainbow as we arrive in Fairytopia in Barbie: Mariposa & the Fairy Princess. While Bibble is nowhere to be seen, what we get instead is an interesting ship, a bunch of crystals, and a random granny villain, so rest assured we are in for a wild ride.

Episode 23:

Rejoice and regale, listeners! Today we have a special return to form with Barbie in the Pink Shoes, one of the best modern barbies that we have seen in recent memory, filled with clever humor, classically inspired setpieces, interesting character dynamics, and a wide diversity of himbos within our lens. Barbie: Princess and the Popstar24 Apr 202001:33:11

Episode 22:

This week, we revisit a somewhat controversial retelling of the classic film Barbie: Princess and the Pauper. In Barbie: Princess and the Popstar, we will go into the buck wild decisions that were made with this film and the utterly strange tangents that it takes us to. But who knows, perhaps this film will surpass the quality of the original? Perhaps? Probably not, but we'll talk about it anyway.

Barbie in a Mermaid's Tale 210 Apr 202001:09:43

Episode 21: This week, we revisit the Queen of the Wave, Merliah, as she embarks on her second underwhelming journey to defeat another magic beam lady in Barbie: A Mermaid's Tale 2; a movie with gay fishies, flagrant disrespect of Polynesian cuisine, and a total lack of development.

Barbie (2023) Teaser Reaction30 Dec 202200:15:07

In anticipation of Greta Gerwig's Barbie movie slated to release in July 2023, The Pink Aisle has a short episode discussing different elements to the latest teaser released for the movie; including the homage to 2001: A Space Odyssey, the new additions to the cast, and our hopes for the story for this film. This is going to be a more informal episode that isn't as polished as our other stuff, but we hope this will be enjoyable as we work to bring you more Pink Aisle goodness in the new year!
