Aggabao, Associate Athletic Director at Santa Clara University, former professional strength and conditioning coach, and passionate photographer. J has spent much of his career helping elite athletes perform at the highest levels of competition. From working with the St. Louis and Los Angeles Rams to serving as Head Strength and Conditioning Coach for the 2017 Grey Cup Champion Toronto Argonauts, his career has been built around discipline, resilience, preparation, and helping others achieve their full potential. Some photographers influence the way you shoot. Others influence the way you see the world. On this episode of The P.H.Y.S Podcast, I'm honored to sit down with Devin Allen, a self-taught photographer, artist, author, and one of my personal biggest influences and inspirations. Devin's work has become a defining visual record of modern American history. In 2015, his photograph documenting the Baltimore Uprising appeared on the cover of TIME Magazine, making him only the third amateur photographer ever featured on the magazine's cover. Five years later, TIME once again selected one of Devin's images, this time documenting a Black Lives Matter protest, further cementing his role as one of the most important visual storytellers of his generation. But Devin's impact goes far beyond magazine covers. Through his photography, he has dedicated himself to documenting Black life, culture, resilience, and community with honesty, dignity, and authenticity. His work serves as both historical record and artistic expression, preserving moments that might otherwise be forgotten while challenging viewers to engage with the realities of the world around them. Named the first Gordon Parks Foundation Fellow in 2017 and a Leica Camera Ambassador in 2020, Devin continues to use photography as a tool for storytelling, education, and social change. His work has been featured in The New York Times, The Washington Post, New York Magazine, and Aperture, while his photographs reside in the permanent collections of some of the most respected museums and cultural institutions in the United States. What happens when a forgotten box of photographs becomes a doorway into the past? On this episode of The P.H.Y.S Podcast, I welcome back my close friend Ansley Stewart, a Houston-based photographer whose passion for forgotten places has recently led him to an extraordinary discovery. Known for documenting lonely landscapes and locations caught in the passage of time, Ansley's photography has always been rooted in curiosity, observation, and preservation. But this time, the story wasn't found in an abandoned building or forgotten roadside landmark. It was hidden inside a box of Kodachrome slides discovered at an estate sale. What began as a simple purchase quickly evolved into a remarkable historical investigation. Using a Leica M11 and adapted macro lens, Ansley and his wife painstakingly digitized thousands of slides, uncovering decades of family history, cultural moments, and previously forgotten stories. Among their discoveries were photographs connected to a woman later honored in the Texas Women's Hall of Fame, family gatherings spanning generations, scenes from Baylor University basketball during the Final Four era at Madison Square Garden, rare images documenting the construction of Baylor's football stadium, and other fascinating glimpses into mid-century American life. Their mission is simple yet deeply meaningful: preserve these memories and ultimately reunite the collection with the family whose history it represents.
