In honor of Stephen Lawrence Day, on 22nd April, we have a whole podcast dedicated to Safeguarding.

Stephen Lawerence was a victim of an unprovoked, racially motivated attack in 1993. It was found that Met Police officers investigating the murder were institutionally racist and this led to the case not being dealt with fairly. Institutional racism is a form of abuse and we have Dr Liza Thompson here to help explain why safeguarding is so important.

We go through a few different exercises that can help you to ground yourself and/or calm you down in difficult times. These include;

Busy Mind - Senses. 5 things you can see, 4 things you can hear, 3 things you can touch, 2 things you can smell, and 1 slow breath in and out.
Overwhelmed - Box breathing/The Breathing Square. Breathing out twice as long as breathing in.
Low Mood - Hot Cross Bun. What thoughts do I have? What emotions do I feel? What should I do? What happens in my body?

Ep 26 Safety In Action

In today's episode, we were on location at dreamland in Margate for the annual Safety In Action event, which is organised by The Salus Group.
Safety in action is an interactive event for year 6 children to learn about some of the risks they may face, as they become more independent and prepare for transition to secondary school.
There are a number of scenarios set up by different organisations to provide information about a variety of topics.
The Thanet Community Safety Partnership delivered our ladder of risk project. If you'd like more information about this project we cover this in episode 9 of this podcast.
