S09|07 - Breathing Belief into our Kids pt 2: Manifestation in Parenting23 Sep 202400:31:07

Our beliefs about our kids matter, and we can be one of the greatest influences of their lives. Intentional parenting can set us up to help support our kids through any challenge and instill them with beliefs that will help them achieve true success (not just the type of success that we’re socialized to believe matters most).

In this episode:

  • Dropping my oldest off at college and all the mixed emotions (and how it brought up this topic over the weekend)
  • What manifestation has to do with parenting (and the spiritual principles of it)
  • What you value most and how to instill those values into your kids through manifestation
  • How to find out if shame is blocking belief work (in any area of your life, but I share a parenting example that you’ll likely relate to).
  • Join my $5 live coaching event HERE and I will do more than teach you these principles, I’ll SHOW you, and we’ll get there together (live on zoom, and recordings sent out to you…. Bring a friend!)

New shame-free parenting coaching program coming up for parents of elementary-aged kids… get on the waitlist HERE for more information.

S09|06 - Anxiety, ADHD, and School Support with Dr Emily16 Sep 202400:40:34

Neurodivergent kids need to be supported both in the home and in the classroom to thrive and grow. ADHD and anxiety seem to be on the rise, but schools aren’t always creating the most effective environment for the growth to happen. In this episode I am joined by Dr Emily in a conversation around supporting learning in the classroom for neurodivergent kids, and how this support can help all kids too.

In this episode:

  • We talk about how to support ADHD and anxiety in our kids and youth
  • Why anxiety may be on the rise, and the power of play
  • Our current curriculum not aligning with child development
  • How play-based education is supportive for young kids (not pushing academics early will help them with future learning)
  • How we can advocate for our kids mental health in the classroom, and when to know if changing schools is needed

S08|22 - Connection for Dads with Tal Eyre10 Jun 202400:36:21

Dads can connect to their kids in an amazing way- and teach, lead and guide through that connection. Join Tal Eyre and I on the podcast this week as we talk about his new book (Dad Mode), self-connection, connection with kids and more.

In December 2011, Anita and Tal welcomed their daughter, Annina, into their family, and Dad Mode was officially activated. Tal went on to earn a Master of Applied Positive Psychology (MAPP) degree at the University of Pennsylvania and then applied his learnings with his family and as a Swiss-based leader in global business development. Through it all, Tal’s highest priority has remained his family and Dad Mode reveals some of his key learnings along the way. Tal and his family live in the Swiss Alps.

Today you’ll hear:

  • Self-connection and shadow work, and how they are at the center of increasing our connection with kids
  • The 4 parenting styles, and how connection helps you maintain healthy relationships
  • Teaching our children through our own failures and imperfections (not through never messing up)
  • Crystal defines what connection-based parenting means to her, and why it’s so important
  • Dropping permissiveness, yelling and coercion and parenting with love, while maintaining boundaries

S05|01 - A Minimalist Life: Stillness, Simplicity and Intuition18 Jul 202200:23:14

I’m back from a lovely 6-week break from IG and the podcast… and I’ve learned some things along the way that I feel called to share with you. I spent much-needed time resting, pausing, being still, connecting and spending time outdoors. Doing this taught me a lot about my own self-worth, how to be more intentional in my be-ing and my do-ing, and why it’s kind of amazing to do less.

What we chat about today:

  • Minimalism in our life, parenting and schedule
  • Simplicity in life comes from stillness, pause and rest
  • Self-worth tied to productivity
  • Sneaky expectations in parenting
  • Tuning in to our parental intuition

Coaching has changed my own life, and the lives of my clients. More connection, more healing, more harmony and peace in our most important relationships. It increases confidence in any difficulties that come up in parenting, which helps you be the guide and teach your children the family values that are important to you- in clear ways. If you feel called to integrate this work in a deeper way, that’s what I’m here for.

S04|13 - Connection in Parenting23 May 202200:22:51

Connection is THE most powerful tool in our parenting toolbox. Traditional parenting tactics look like spanking, grounding, and time-outs. You’ll notice with traditional methods that over time, they don’t really seem to work- in fact, they make things worse. Connection works long-term and creates the kind of relationship that you want to have with your kids.

In today’s episode:

  • The real problem with rewards and punishments (and what they teach)
  • How to use connection as teaching tool with our kids
  • How to connect to US first- so we can connect with THEM with ease
  • Connection and the model, where does it fit?

Years ago, I felt stuck in the weeds of parenting: nursing, non-sleeping kiddos, diagnoses, cooking, cleaning… repeating. I felt like I’d lost myself; who was I? What did I enjoy doing? • How toxic positivity differs from working on feeling happy
  • Steps to help us build a healthy relationship with ourselves

S08|21 - Suicide Prevention03 Jun 202400:21:32

Suicide has deeply impacted my family circle over the years, as it has so many of you around the world. Today I share some ways we can work on preventing suicide in our homes and communities though talking more openly about mental health in clear and frank ways- and become willing to open ourselves up to potentially awkward (but SO important) conversations.

Note: be tender with yourself if this episode is triggering for you, come back to it later if you need to... and KNOW that if someone in your circle has passed away due to suicide that it was NEVER your fault, and when we talk about prevention it’s not for situations in the past, but how we can support others in the future.

S04|06 - Mom-guilt, Diabetes and Blame- coaching call #104 Apr 202200:27:50

Consuming information can be truly helpful, and we can make shifts and changes from what we hear, see, or read… but THE biggest changes happen through integration. Integration comes from taking these tools and principles and USING them- applying them to our lives in a direct way. In today’s special episode you’ll hear one of my clients get coached on a struggle that she’s facing in life- and how it relates to shame/mom-guilt. If you are interested in working with me as your coach, send me an email and we’ll chat: crystal@coachcrystal.ca

What I coach her on:

  • How shame turns to blame and affects our relationships
  • Feeling like she’s failing the “mommy report card”
  • Processing her emotions
  • How she can become her own best friend (and so can you!)

S04|03 - What I’ve Learned About Shame + Parenting from Brené Brown14 Mar 202200:19:27

The number one issue that I see in parenting, across the board, is shame. It’s not something we really talk about. By it’s very nature we try to hide/avoid it, which only increases it. My goal is to help you, and me, become shame resilient. This means that we will still feel it. It won’t go away forever, but we can learn how to feel it, process it and move forward. Tune into this episode where I share all that I’ve learned about shame in the past 12 months.

What we cover in this episode:

  • The 5 things I learned from Dare to Lead TM by Brené Brown
  • How shame affects our parenting and creates more shame
  • Thoughts that lead to shame (shame vs. guilt)

Bonnie Lyman is a mother of five adult children and a certified, faith-based life coach.  She decided to build a business around helping moms who want to stop struggling in their relationships with their adult children after having been heartbroken from various challenges with her own adult children.  She learned how to stop hurting and start living the life she wanted to live through learning what the real cause of her problem was.  She was letting her brain tell her lies.  Once she learned how to manage her thoughts, she found peace in my life.  Everybody talks about how challenging teenagers may be, but nobody ever told us about the transition that takes place from being a parent of young children to being a parent to adult children.  Bonnie now helps moms get past the hurt of this new role in their children’s lives by helping them understand why they are feeling so heartbroken, and how to feel peace in and acceptance of the kind of relationship they are now having with their children. Bonnie coaches people 1:1.

What we discuss in this episode:

  • What struggles come up in the adult parent/child relationship
  • How we are hurting ourselves and our relationships unknowingly
  • What we can do to take back control of our lives and focus on connection, love and support for our kids
  • How to celebrate our adult children’s independence and to love them just the way they are

S08|18 - Real Talk: A Dad's Journey Through Parenting Challenges13 May 202400:50:01

One of my favourite episodes by far, is this honest and tender-hearted conversation that I have with my husband on the podcast. We open up about the tough moments of parenting, managing neurodiverse challenges, and our own personal change and growth over the years. Meet JD Haitsma, my hubby (who is very much NOT a parenting coach).

In this conversation, we get into:

  • JD’s perspective on parenting years ago when I first learned about connection and attachment.
  • The difference between living from the belief “Why wouldn’t this happen to me?” versus “This shouldn’t be happening to me”.
  • Modifying behaviour (like is so often done with animals) vs helping our children to BECOME.
  • What changes have happened as we’ve parented differently, and what to do if those around you disagree with you.
  • How children are natural learners and are innately good… and why this belief creates changes.
