Sophie Ibbotson is a Central Asia specialist who has worked in the region since 2008, focusing on economic development — in particular tourism development — and water security. Through her company Maximum Exposure, she is a consultant to national governments and to the World Bank, and is Uzbekistan’s Tourism Ambassador to the UK. 

Sophie is the author of six guidebooks for Bradt Travel Guides, and has written for Lonely Planet, National Geographic Traveller, and Culture Trip, amongst many other publications. 

She is also Chairman of the UK’s Royal Society for Asian Affairs, founded in 1901 as the Central Asia Society. 

On this episode of the show, Sophie shares her one way ticket destination is to Samarkand in the early 1420s, when Ulugbek - a grandson of Amir Timur (Tamerlane) - was governor. Sophie points out that at this point, before he became the Timurid Emperor, Ulugbek had just finished constructing his madrassa and astronomical observatory, solidifying Samarkand as one of the great intellectual and cultural centers of the Islamic world.

General David H. Petraeus is a retired United States Army general and a prominent commentator on contemporary security issues, military developments and global affairs, widely respected as a leading warrior intellectual.

The General graduated with distinction from the US Military Academy and earned a PhD from Princeton University. He served in the US Army for thirty-seven years, concluding his time in uniform with six consecutive commands as general officer, five of which were in combat, including command of the Surge in Iraq, US Central Command, and the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan. He then served as the director of the CIA. 

The General has held academic appointments at six universities and is a senior fellow and lecturer at Yale University. He is currently a partner in a major investment firm and chairs that firm’s Global Institute.

The General is also a brilliant author. His latest book, Conflict: The Evolution of Warfare from 1945 to Ukraine released at the end of 2023 and is a must read. Charlie Clifford founded Tumi and served as CEO for many years before heading up the company’s international business. A true entrepreneur, Charlie launched Tumi with a partner in 1975 as an importer of leather bags from Colombia with a total investment of $10,000. Today, Tumi is widely considered to be the market leader in premium luggage, business cases, and related accessories. The brand is sold in over 70 countries and has a dedicated following among frequent travelers, including business executives and professionals, famous athletes, and celebrities from the sports and entertainment world. After going public in 2012, the company was purchased by Samsonite in 2016 for about $1.8 billion.

Clifford graduated from Indiana University in 1965 with a BA in English and earned his MBA in marketing from Indiana’s Kelley School of Business in 1967. He then spent two years in Peru as part of an experimental Peace Corps MBA program, working as a consultant with small businesses and assisting government agencies with economic development projects. In 1975, after working as a marketing director for an industrial equipment company, he started Tumi and named the company after a Peruvian Pre-Colombian god which was the symbol of the region where he lived while serving in the Peace Corps.

Now Senior Counsel at the law firm of Kasowitz, Benson, Torres LLP in New York, Joseph I. Lieberman was for 24 years a member of the U.S. Senate from Connecticut. Ishmael Khaldi was born in Khawaled, a village near Haifa. He is the third of eleven children. He lived in a Bedouin tent until the age of eight. He walked four miles (6 km) round trip to attend school and tended flocks of sheep. He said his family's ties with its Jewish neighbors go back to the days of the early Zionist pioneers from Eastern Europe who settled in the Galilee region in the 1920s.

Ishmael earned a Bachelors degree in political science from the University of Haifa and a Masters degree in political science and international relations from Tel Aviv University. He served in the Israeli Ministry of Defense, Israel Police, and in the Israel Defense Forces as a political analyst.

He initiated a project called "Hike and Learn with Bedouins in the Galilee" that has brought thousands of young Jews to Khawaled to learn about Bedouin culture and history. He said these encounters inspired him to become a diplomat.

Ishmael began working for the Israeli Foreign Ministry in 2004. Throughout his distinguished career, he served as Vice Consul at the Israeli Consulate in San Francisco, and was Councilor for Civil Society Affairs at the Israeli Embassy in London. Plus, Ishmael was a policy advisor to former Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman. He also served in posts in Ghana, Angola, Cameroon, Nigeria, Nepal, India and Miami. 

In 2020, Ishmael was appointed Israel's Ambassador to Eritrea.

Sabato Russo was born and raised in the town of Foggia, in southern Italy's Puglia region.

After studying architecture in Florence and Milan he started his career as an international fashion model.

After graduating from Oxford University with a degree in law, Roz spent the first eleven years of her career working as a management consultant, braving nothing more intrepid than rush hour on the London Underground, before an environmental epiphany led to a radical personal transformation into a world class adventurer.

During the seven years of her ocean rowing career, Roz Savage had more chance than most to explore the far horizons of courage. Spending up to five months alone at sea on a 23-foot rowboat, thousands of miles from land and humanity, at the mercy of winds, waves and currents, she evolved from a nervous novice adventurer into the world's foremost female ocean rower.

While crossing a total of fifteen thousand miles of ocean she had to redefine her comfort zone on a daily basis, and reach deep into her inner sources of strength, self-discipline, and commitment to her goal. She discovered the vital importance of keeping a cool head in life-endangering situations, to optimize her capacity for smart decision-making, accurate risk assessment and creative problem-solving. 

She now combines her self-taught life skills with principles from neuroscience, psychology, personal development and leadership theory, to inform and inspire corporate audiences. She has spoken to tens of thousands of people across six continents, including Google, eBay, Hershey, Disney, Kaiser Permanente, National Geographic, the Royal Geographical Society, TED and TEDx, plus numerous schools, universities and corporations.

In 2010 she was named Adventurer of the Year by National Geographic. In 2012 she was a World Fellow at Yale. In 2013 she was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire in the Queen’s Birthday Honors for services to fundraising and the environment. In 2017 she took up a position at Yale, lecturing on Courage in Theory and Practice.

Designer, entrepreneur, best-selling author, and mother of five, India Hicks was born in London, England, and comes from both British and design royalty. Her father was famed interior decorator, David Hicks, and her mother is Lady Pamela Hicks, whose father was the last Viceroy of India, hence her name.

An international figure in architecture and urban design, the architect Daniel Libeskind is renowned for his ability to evoke cultural memory and is informed by a deep commitment to music, philosophy, and literature. Mr. Libeskind aims to create architecture that is resonant, original, and sustainable. Born in Lód’z, Poland, in 1946, Mr. Libeskind immigrated to the United States as a teenager and with his family, settled in the Bronx. After studying music in New York and Israel on an American-Israel Cultural Foundation Scholarship, he developed into a musical virtuoso, before eventually leaving music to study architecture. He received his professional degree in architecture from the Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art in 1970 and a postgraduate degree in the history and theory of architecture from the School of Comparative Studies at Essex University in England in 1972.

Daniel Libeskind established his architectural studio in Berlin, Germany, in 1989 after winning the competition to build the Jewish Museum in Berlin. In February 2003, Studio Libeskind moved its headquarters from Berlin to New York City when Daniel Libeskind was selected as the master planner for the World Trade Center redevelopment. Daniel Libeskind’s practice is involved in designing and realizing a diverse array of urban, cultural and commercial projects internationally. The Studio has completed buildings that range from museums and concert halls to convention centers, university buildings, hotels, shopping centers and residential towers.

As Principal Design Architect for Studio Libeskind, Mr. Libeskind speaks widely on the art of architecture in universities and professional summits. His new book Edge of Order, detailing his creative process, was published in 2018. Mr. Libeskind lives in New York City with his wife and business partner, Nina Libeskind. Tony Dokoupil is a co-host of "CBS This Morning." Previously, he was a CBS News correspondent and a "CBS Sunday Morning" contributor. His reporting has appeared across all CBS News broadcasts and platforms.

Zozibini Tunzi is Miss Universe 2019. Affectionately known as Zozi, she had previously been crowned Miss South Africa 2019, and is the third woman from her country to hold the Miss Universe title.   Born in Tsolo, Eastern Cape and raised in the nearby village of Sidwadweni, Zozi is one of four sisters. She later moved to Cape Town and attended Cape Peninsula University of Technology. In 2018 she graduated with a National Diploma in public relations management. She had also worked as a model in East London, Eastern Cape.   Prior to winning Miss South Africa, Zozi was completing a Bachelor of Technology graduate degree in public relations management at Cape Peninsula University of Technology and worked as a graduate intern in public relations at Ogilvy Cape Town.   Zozi is a passionate activist and engaged in the fight against gender based violence. She has devoted her social media campaign to changing the narrative around gender stereotypes. Eddie Perfect is one of Australia's most diverse, respected and prolific writers/composers/performers, having made his mark in the fields of comedy, music theatre composition, playwriting, screenwriting, classical music, jazz and acting for stage and screen. Bret Stephens is an Op-Ed Columnist and Associate Editor for the New York Times since 2017. Mr. Stephens began his newspaper career at the Wall Street Journal in 1998 as an editor in New York, and later wrote editorials and articles for the newspaper from Brussels. In January 2002, at age 28, he was named editor-in-chief of the Jerusalem Post at the height of the second intifada.

Mr. Stephens returned to the Wall Street Journal in late 2004 and reported from around the world and interviewed dozens of world leaders, including Presidents Bush, Obama, and Trump and every Israeli Prime Minister since Shimon Peres. In June 2017 he added senior political analyst for NBC to his portfolio.

He is the recipient of the 2013 Pulitzer Prize for distinguished commentary, awarded to him “for his incisive columns on American foreign policy and domestic politics, often enlivened by a contrarian twist.”

His essays and articles have appeared in Foreign Affairs, Commentary magazine and many other publications. He is a frequent guest on RealTime With Bill Maher, Morning Joe, Hardball and many other news and talk shows.

Mr. Stephens has twice been chairman of Pulitzer Prize juries and is a national judge of the Livingston Awards for young journalists. He holds three honorary doctorates, most recently from Yeshiva University, and many other distinctions from organizations dedicated to promoting the values of liberal democracy in the face of rising populism and authoritarianism.

He is the author of "America In Retreat: The New Isolationism and the Coming Global Disorder," which was published in 2014 to wide acclaim.

Mr. Stephens is a widely acclaimed public speaker. In 2017 he delivered the Daniel Pearl Memorial Lecture at UCLA, later republished in Time magazine and read by over two million people.

Mr. Stephens was born in New York and raised in Mexico City. He holds a Bachelor of Arts with honors from the University of Chicago and a Master’s of Science from the London School of Economics. Adrian Cunningham is an award-winning multi-instrumentalist, vocalist and world traveler. Originally from Sydney, Australia and now based in New York, Adrian is proving to be one of his country’s top exports.  With fluent command of the saxophones, clarinet, and flute, he is one of the finest multi-instrumentalists in jazz today.  Adrian is the recipient of the Hot House Saxophone Award for 2017.  Adrian’s band, Professor Cunningham and His Old School, is the winner of international band competition World Jam (Madrid: 2016, 2017) and Best Band Award at 2017 Harlem Festival (Vilnius, Lithuania).  When he is not busy performing in New York with some of its finest players, he is touring the world playing jazz festivals and swing events.  

Since relocating to New York City in 2008, Adrian has performed at some of the Big Apple’s finest clubs, including The Blue Note, Smalls, Birdland, 55 Bar, Apollo Theatre, Fat Cat, Dizzy’s at Jazz at Lincoln Center and even an event at the hallowed Village Vanguard.  He has played with such jazz stars as Wynton Marsalis, Wycliffe Gordon, Jon Batiste, George Coleman Jr., Jeff Hamilton, John Clayton, Ted Rosenthal, Chris Potter and René Marie. 

Adrian is currently performing with world-class trombonist Wycliffe Gordon, including a performance at the London Jazz Festival and a recording in Abbey Road Studios alongside Wess Anderson, Reginald Veal and Herlin Riley.  Adrian’s travels with the Wycliffe Gordon quintet have also included appearances at the Johannesburg Jazz Festival, Bern Jazz Festival (Switzerland), Newport Jazz Festival and regular performances in New York at Dizzy’s at Jazz at Lincoln Center.  Adrian has also appeared on two of Wycliffe’s albums to rave reviews (“One of the unexpected joys [of the album] is the rich, woody clarinet of Cunningham,” Hot House NYC).

In 2013 Cunningham formed a traditional New Orleans-style outfit called Professor Cunningham and His Old School, deeply rooted in the jazz tradition.  They have become one of the top bands on the international Swing scene, performing at the Blue Note Jazz Festival (NYC), Melbourne International Jazz Festival (Australia), Sopot Molo Jazz Festival (Poland), Snowball (Stockholm), SLOX (California), CPH:LX (Copenhagen) and Melbourne International Jazz Festival. 

Cunningham also has a busy individual jazz festival schedule, including repeat appearances at the North Carolina Jazz Festival, Central Illinois Jazz Festival, Newport plus concerts at the famous Gennett studios (Richmond, Indiana).  Additional international festival credits include Montreux Jazz Festival (3 times), Johannesburg, Japan, London, Tokyo and Sopot Molo (Poland).

From 2014 to 2017, Adrian was the leader of the saxophone section of the Grammy-winning Vince Giordano and the Nighthawks, a NYC-based 1920s swing orchestra responsible for the soundtracks for “Boardwalk Empire” and movies including The Aviator. 

As a leader, he has recorded ten CDs and two DVDs both in Australia with his quartet and also in New York through Arbors Records.  His 2017 release Jazz Speak, recorded with jazz stars Jeff Hamilton, John Clayton and Ted Rosenthal, broke the top 20 in the U.S. national JazzWeek charts. His new CD Adrian Cunningham & His Friends Play Lerner & Loewe – which explores the jazz influence of the legendary songwriting team known for iconic musicals like My Fair Lady, Camelot and Brigadoon – features Fred Hersch on piano, John Hébert on bass and Eric McPherson on drums, with guest stars Randy Brecker on trumpet and Wycliffe Gordon on trombone.

TIEFENBRUN Founder, Yosel Tiefenbrun, was raised in London and comes from a long line of tailors, fabric merchants and artists. The love of fine clothes, design and exquisite workmanship runs in his blood and has been his passion from a young age. Growing up, his studies took him to France, New York, Israel and then on to Singapore to become a rabbi. In Singapore he also began to pursue his love of design and clothing, studying design at NAFA while interning at Harpars Bazaar Magazine.

At the age of 21, Yosel moved to London to study at the Savile Row Academy, where he spent two years training in both cutting and tailoring. He was then chosen to apprentice under Master Tailor Andrew Ramroop of Maurice Sedwell, where he dealt with many high profile clients, celebrity sports players, award winning actors and international royalty.

Upon finishing his apprenticeship, Yosel moved back to Singapore to work as both a rabbi for the Jewish community and a tailor at Kevin Seah Bespoke. In his new role, he worked with many Asian and international clients, gaining a broader sartorial mindset for the various cultures, traditions and unique styles of Asia.

Following his dreams, Yosel moved to New York to open his own tailoring house, and at the age of 28, launched TIEFENBRUN in Williamsburg, New York.

His most recent album Gliding Towards Oblivion was released in December 2018. It featured a cover of Donovan’s 1966 hit “Mellow Yellow” with the acclaimed Scottish bard on background vocals. His next album of protest music entitled Can Anyone Hear Me? will be released in 2020.

Lior Lev Sercarz is the Chef, Spice Master and Owner of La Boîte, a biscuits and spice shop in New York, which has been featured in a variety of publications including The New York Times, Vogue, InStyle, Every Day with Rachel Ray, Food & Wine Magazine and the SAVEUR 100.

Born in the north of Israel, Lior spent the beginning of his life living with his family across Europe. He returned to Israel at age 10 where he quickly learned that the best food in Israel was not at restaurants but in people’s homes where the flavors of their origin countries combined with the Middle East. Though his path to the spice kingdom began after completing three years as a sergeant of the Israeli army. Lior traveled to South America where his exposure to new cultures and cooking further developed a passion for the culinary world.

Upon returning to Israel, Chef Gil Frank gave him his first job and after three years encouraged him to take the next step. Lior enrolled in culinary school at the acclaimed Institut Paul Bocuse in Lyon, France. During that time, he did an externship with chef Olivier Roellinger in Cancale, France, who had earned three Michelin stars at his hotel and restaurant Les Maisons de Bricourt. Roellinger became known for his rare understanding of spices, blends, oils, and pastes, areas Lior found the most interesting.

In 2002, Lior brought his newfound understanding of spice blending to New York, where he had the honor of working with chef Daniel Boulud at his flagship restaurant Daniel as a sous chef and catering chef. He left Daniel in 2008 to start La Boîte, originally making and selling a line of French biscuits as well as experimenting with spices. In 2011, deepening his spice knowledge, he opened La Boîte Biscuits & Spices, an art gallery and spice shop in New York City’s Hell’s Kitchen on 11th Avenue and 51st street.

Lior has worked closely with chefs from around the world, developing custom blends for them and for other customers with all levels of cooking experience. Restaurant collaborations include: Daniel, Le Bernardin, Zahav, Momofuko Ssam Bar, Kawi, Del Posto, Marc Forgione, Blackbird, Oleana, and Michael Mina, among others.

In 2012, he produced a cookbook entitled The Art of Blending, which features 41 blends along with recipes and cooking tips provided by renowned chefs and culinary minds. His second book, The Spice Companion, is an illustrated guide to 102 spices, complete with blends and recipe ideas was published by Clarkson Potter in November 2016. Lior released his third book, Mastering Spice: Recipes and Techniques to Transform Your Everyday Cooking, in October 2019 (Clarkson Potter) and offers 250 recipes informing readers on how spices change the way one makes every meal.

Up next for Lior includes the expansion of La Boite’s presence in Manhattan with a new wholesale headquarters and test kitchen on West 46th street.  He also serves as the culinary director of the future Jewish National Fund-USA Galilee Culinary Institute in Israel’s Upper Eastern Galilee, set to open in 2021.

Ivan's journey began with a dishwashing job at a sushi bar when he was 15. He discovered a culture and cuisine that would shape the rest of his life. Upon graduation from high school, Ivan decided to major in Japanese language and literature at the University of Colorado, Boulder. After graduating, Ivan immediately moved to Japan to teach English and he quickly cemented his love of everything Japanese.

He returned to the US in 1990 and enrolled in the Culinary Institute of America, and began his culinary training.

Upon graduation from the CIA, and stints at Mesa Grill, Lutece, and Restaurant Associates, Ivan returned to Tokyo to live in the country that he fell in love with. He had still never given thought to combining his love for cooking and Japan, but that was soon to change. Ivan was anxious to start a food-related business in Japan but was unsure of which direction to take. He thought about opening a cooking school, a sandwich shop, even a pizzeria. It was his wife's suggestion that he open a ramen shop.

This move seemed destined for failure in a country where ramen enjoys a cult-like status. Incredibly, Ivan not only succeeded, but became one of the top ramen shops in Tokyo, an unheard of accomplishment for a foreigner. In 2010 a second shop, Ivan Ramen Plus, was opened. In 2012, Ivan returned to NY with the hopes of opening a business back home, while continuing to operate his two shops in Tokyo. In the meantime his cookbook "Ivan Ramen" was published. His first venture in the US, Ivan Ramen Slurp Shop, opened at the Gotham West Market on 600 11th Avenue in November of 2013 to huge crowds and critical acclaim.

Soon after, his US flagship, Ivan Ramen opened at 25 Clinton Street on New York's Lower East Side.

Both restaurants continue to enjoy critical acclaim and have been mentioned in countless magazines, websites, blogs, and television programs. Ivan is widely recognized as the American authority on ramen and all things Japanese. His effortless crossover from American to Japanese cultures has given him a distinct advantage. He speaks fluent Japanese, and has a deep understanding of the culture which allows him to present a product that appeals to both Japanese and American audiences.

In February of 2017 Ivan was featured in the hit NETFLIX series CHEFS TABLE, instantly vaulting him into the company of some of the world's great chefs and restauranteurs. Over the last four decades, John Miller has served as Music Coordinator for over 130 Broadway productions and is currently represented by Ain't Too Proud: The Life and Times of the Temptations and Oklahoma!, in addition to the upcoming New York production of Tina: The Tina Turner Musical. Rick Hodes is an American physician who has lived and worked in Ethiopia for over 30 years. Raised in Long Island, he is the Medical Director of the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) in Ethiopia, a 105-year old NGO. He has been in charge of the health of Ethiopians immigrating to Israel. He has also worked with refugees in Rwanda, Zaire, Tanzania, Somalia, and Albania. 

Currently, he practices in the basement of a busy Addis Ababa hospital, concentrating on spinal deformities, and rheumatic and congenital heart disease. All care is free. Unable to get free surgery for his first spine patients, he adopted them and brought them to the US. A colleague recently said “Rick has the largest collection of the worst spines in the world.” He collaborates with colleagues in Ghana, India, Israel, Germany, and the US. He is also the senior consultant at Mother Teresa’s mission.

Rick is a graduate of Middlebury College and University of Rochester Medical School, and trained in internal medicine at Johns Hopkins Bayview. Hodes first went to Ethiopia as a relief worker during the 1984 famine. He returned there on a Fulbright Fellowship to teach internal medicine at Addis Ababa University, and in 1990 was hired by the JDC to care for 25,000 potential immigrants to Israel. In 1991, he was part of “Operation Solomon,” which airlifted Ethiopian Jews to Israel.  

Rick was a “CNN Hero" in 2007, and was ABC’s "Person of the Week" in 2010. He is the holder of 5 honorary doctorates and has been commencement speaker at Brandeis, and UC Davis and University of Rochester Medical Schools. The American College of Physicians has awarded him “Mastership” and the Rosenthal Award for creative practice of medicine. He has published over 20 papers in medical journals.

He is the subject of the HBO documentary “Making the Crooked Straight,” as well as the book “This is a Soul: The Mission of Rick Hodes” by Marilyn Berger. A recent documentary, "Zemene", highlights the life of a young spine patient and her journey from rural Gondar to Addis Ababa, spine surgery in Ghana, and speaking in New York City.

A New York native, Robert Horn studied Theater at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts and New York's Circle in the Square Theater School. Soon after, he left for Los Angeles to pursue a writing career in film and television that has spanned over 30 years. His first break came as a writer/producer on the iconic television series "Designing Women", followed by the groundbreaking Fox series "Living Single", and the irreverent CBS comedy "High Society".

Mr. Horn was then signed to an overall production deal with Warner Brothers Studios, where he developed, wrote, and Executive Produced dozens of network pilots and/or series. He then signed a multi-year script deal at Sony Studios, followed by an overall pilot deal at ABC Studios. He, along with television veteran Bob Boyett, wrote and created the FX Series Partners, one of the few 10/90 deals made in the early 2000's. He has written projects for many numerous broadcast, cable, and platform networks, including as the musical pilot Car Wash with Will Packer, The Jenni Rivera Show for Latin superstar Jenni Rivera, the pilot Sunnyland for TBS starring Jennifer Hudson, Left of Center developed with TV veteran Gail Berman, and Taxi 22 at HBO, starring James Gandolfini.

Mr. Horn also wrote musical movies such as "Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure", the next of the High School Musical series, followed by the hugely popular "Teen Beach Movie" franchise for Disney.

Along with his television credits, Mr. Horn has written such diverse projects as "Wildlife" for Walt Disney Feature Animation, the Charlie Sheen feature film "Good Advice", "The RuPaul Christmas Special" for the BBC, and "Revenge", a digital musical series co-written with Jason Robert Brown for Sony's digital Crackle network, and contributed to Bette Midler's world tour, Divine Intervention.

Theatrically, Mr. Horn has written the books for "Dame Edna, Back With A Vengeance" which opened at Broadway's Music Box theatre in 2004; "Lone Star Love", the Red Clay Rambler musical which premiered at the 5th Avenue Theater in Seattle; the Jason Robert Brown musical "13" which premiered at the Goodspeed Opera House in Goodspeed, Conn and opened at the Jacobs Theater in New York; the musical "Moonshine, that Hee Haw Musical", with Brandy Clark and Shane McAnnally, which opened at the Dallas Theater Center, and the Broadway musical Tootsie, collaborating with David Yazbek.

John Pizzarelli, the world-renowned guitarist and singer, has established himself as a prime contemporary interpreter of the Great American Songbook and beyond, with a repertoire that includes Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, Tom Waits, Antônio Carlos Jobim, and The Beatles. His wildly successful Midnight McCartney had its origins in McCartney’s Grammy Award-winning 2012 album, Kisses on the Bottom. Pizzarelli played guitar on 10 of the album’s 14 tracks and backed Sir Paul at an iTunes concert at Capitol Records Studios and the Grammy Awards. 

Pizzarelli’s solo recording career began in 1990 with My Blue Heaven on Chesky Records. He played clubs and concert halls on the jazz circuit, opening for such greats as Dave Brubeck, Ramsey Lewis and Rosemary Clooney. In 1993, he opened for Frank Sinatra’s international tour and then joined in the celebration for his 80th birthday at Carnegie Hall. 

In addition to being a bandleader and solo performer, John has been a special guest on recordings for major pop names such as James Taylor, Natalie Cole, Kristin Chenoweth, Rickie Lee Jones and Dave Van Ronk, as well as leading jazz artists including: Rosemary Clooney, Ray Brown, Johnny Frigo, Ruby Braff, Buddy DeFranco, Harry Allen and, of course, his father Bucky Pizzarelli.

Matthew’s passion for all things travel began in his childhood. He brings 25 years of entrepreneurial leadership experience in the luxury travel marketing, sales, and hospitality business development arena to Transcend Cruises. Elie Honig is a CNN Legal Analyst who previously worked for 14 years as a federal and state prosecutor. He currently is Executive Director of the Rutgers Institute for Secure Communities and Special Counsel to the law firm Lowenstein Sandler, LLC.

Honig served as Deputy Director, and then Director, of the New Jersey Division of Criminal Justice from 2012 through 2018. While Director, Honig oversaw a staff of over 500 law enforcement professionals, including prosecutors, detectives, analysts and support staff. During his time as Director, the Division charged and prosecuted sweeping cases against street gangs, drug trafficking organizations, illegal firearms traffickers, corrupt public officials, child predators and white-collar corporate thieves. The Division also developed new practice areas aimed at emerging criminal threats including cybercrime, human trafficking, post-Sandy fraud and diversion of prescription painkillers. As Director, Hong spearheaded successful statewide policy initiatives focused on bail reform, police-involved shooting response, body-worn cameras, community policing, internal affairs, witness protection and deconfliction.

Prior to joining the Division of Criminal Justice, Honig worked for eight years as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, prosecuting and trying cases involving organized crime, human trafficking, public corruption, and violent crime. From 2010 through 2012, Honig served as Deputy Chief, and later Co-Chief, of the Organized Crime Unit. Honig successfully prosecuted over 100 members and associates of La Cosa Nostra, including Bosses and other high-ranking members of the Gamino and Genovese Organized Crime Families. As an Assistant United States Attorney, Honig tried 15 cases to jury verdict, and argued over 20 cases in the Second Circuit Court of Appeals.

From 2000 to 2004, Honig worked as an associate at the law firm Covington & Burling, in Washington, D.C.

Honig obtained his undergraduate degree from Rutgers College in 1997, and his law degree from Harvard Law School in 2000.

As a CNN Legal Analyst, Honig provides commentary and analysis on air and in print on breaking news relating to criminal justice, national security and other legal issues. Honig also is quoted regularly in outlets including the New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, Newsweek, Time, The Atlantic, The Guardian, Financial Times, Bloomberg, Business Insider and others.

Tim Gunn is known as the Emmy winning co-host and mentor for 16 seasons of Lifetime's cornerstone series "Project Runway," where he also served as one of the show's producers. He and co-host Heidi Klum won the 2013 Emmy Award for Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality Competition Program, nabbing the award after his first nomination. 2017 marked the duo's fifth consecutive nomination in the category and the show has received thirteen consecutive nominations for Outstanding Reality Competition Program. In addition to his work on "Project Runway," Gunn also served as an Executive Producer, mentor and co-host of "Project Runway Junior" for two seasons. The show challenged young designer between 13-17 years old.

In 2018, Gunn and Klum departed the beloved "Project Runway" for a brand-new venture with Amazon Studios. The pair will be seen globally as the pinnacle of the fashion world.

Along with Gunn's television prowess, he is a recognized and sought after fashion executive and administrator. He served as Fashion Dean at Fifth & Pacific, where he was responsible for attracting, retaining and developing creative talent. Prior to his position at Fifth & Pacific, he was the Chief Creative Officer at Liz Claiborne Inc. Gunn served as a member of the administration and faculty at Parsons School of Design for 29 years and has a rich and deep history with the institution. In August 2000, Gunn was appointed Chair of the Department of Fashion Design at Parsons with the charge of retooling and invigorating the curriculum for the 21st century. Under his direction, the department was repositioned as the indisputable leader in fashion design education in America and as one of only a handful of leading programs in the world.
