| Unburdening Motherhood with Angele Close | 03 Nov 2025 | 00:39:30 | |
In this episode, I talk with Dr. Angele Close, a clinical psychologist, motherhood coach, and certified mindfulness meditation teacher. Her work weaves together Internal Family Systems, mindfulness, and matrescence to help mothers reconnect with themselves and embrace the process of becoming. She opens up about her own season of disconnection in early motherhood and how discovering IFS helped her find language, clarity, and compassion for the parts within. Her upcoming book, Unburdening Motherhood: A Guide to Breaking Cycles, Healing Trauma, and Becoming a Self-Led Mom, offers that same roadmap to others. Together, we explore the parts that push us to be the "good mom," the ones that try to do it all, and how IFS can help us lead ourselves and our families with more Self Energy. In this conversation, we explore:
Whether you're a parent, therapist, or simply curious about how our systems respond to change, this conversation is a gentle invitation to lead with more Self energy in every season of life. | Parenting, Parts, and Repair with Anna Purpero | 13 Jun 2025 | 00:33:09
What if the magic in parenting doesn't happen in the moment you get it right, but in the moment you come back and repair? This week, I talk with educator, children's book author, and Self-led parent Anna Purpero, and I just loved this conversation so much. Anna has two little boys and a big heart, and she shares so honestly about what happens when our protectors take over in parenting and how IFS helped her find a new way forward. We talk about:
Anna's book My Friends Inside is just beautiful. It's one of those books that speaks to kids and to the little ones inside us. | IFS and "Middle Lane Drinkers" with Madeline Gibson | 25 Nov 2022 | 00:36:56

She is soon to launch her podcast, "There's a Part of Me", for the IFS curious, and in the new year will launch a range of free resources around 'middle lane drinking' through the IFS lens. Britt Frank escaped a cult, rebuilt her life after addiction, and is one of the most grounded, funny, and inspiring IFS speakers and educators around. In this week's episode, we talk about her new book Align Your Mind, and how parts work helped her move from chaos to clarity. We get into all of it...motivation, procrastination, inner critics, cults, menopause, and what alignment looks like beyond the buzzwords. Britt shares how she uses parts language in her own life, how she reframes procrastination as protection, and why your most extreme parts might actually be your best coaches. She also opens up about what it's like to come out of systems of control and begin to trust your own experience again. As Britt says, "Our parts don't want us to feel better. They want us to feel safe." If you've ever felt stuck or like your parts are pulling you in opposite directions, this conversation is for you. In this episode, we talk about:

| IFS and Be, Belong, Become: How IFS resonates with the Indigenous Worldview with Suzan McVicker and Julia Sullivan | 25 Mar 2022 | 00:50:36 | |
On today's podcast I chat with Suzan McVicker and Julia Sullivan. They are part of the Indigenous Elder IFS Council who spoke at the 2021 IFS Annual Conference. Here is their entire workshop on Youtube! (Thank you Sara Oberg!): The Spirit of the Circle: Indigenous Worldview IFS Resonance - YouTube ----- Suzan McVicker became an IFS trainer in 1999 when two year basic IFS trainings--as they were called them back then--were first offered. After joining several IFS training teams and teaching IFS in higher education, local seminars, community classes, and case consultation groups, she turned her attention to collaborating with Native American communities for mutual sharing of what IFS has to offer to Indigenous Peoples and what Indigenous traditions have to offer to the IFS community. Julia Sullivan is a Level 2 trained IFS practitioner (and PA "groupie" for Mary Kruger) who integrates Self leadership and Parts healing into everything she does. Drawing upon her spiritual practice in an indigenous community, 25-years in recovery, and an MBA from Stanford, Julia Co-founded the Indigenous Elder IFS Council to bring peer-based IFS healing that is easily accessible to anyone. Julia also leads the IFS in Business group that meets monthly over Zoom to share best practices in bringing IFS to business. Julia and her Level 1 trained husband Chris take daily walks around a beautiful lake where they deepen their love by speaking for their Parts and Self while basking in the beauty around, between, and within them. -------- 7 Bs of Indigenous-Inspired IFS:
…it is becoming increasingly clear that the idea of the mind as unitary is a relatively recent invention of "civilized" society. Indigenous cultures throughout the world were familiar and comfortable not only with a spirit world, but also with an inner realm inhabited by many different voices and characters. It may be that the idea of the normal mind as multiple is less a radical departure from established knowledge than it is returning to an age-old wisdom from which "established knowledge" radically departed. | Honoring Teen Parts with Ann-Katrin Bockmann, Kasra Mirzaie, and Robin Barre | 16 May 2025 | 00:46:01
In this week's episode I welcome three guests--Robin Barre, Ann-Katrin Bockmann, and Kasra Mirzaie--to talk about IFS and working with teenagers. We explore how IFS often skips over this phase of life, both in how we work with clients and how we relate to our own inner adolescent parts. We tend to romanticize childhood or focus on early wounding, yet there's a lot of cringing and avoiding when it comes to the teenage years. Adolescence is where so much transformation happens. It's where meaning gets made. It's when parts start to emerge with passion, intensity, and voice. My guests are each doing beautiful work in the world to support teens. Our teens (and teen parts) need room to grow, roll their eyes, slam doors, and ask big existential questions. This episode makes space for and sense of it all. We talk about normalizing rebellion, exploring identity, meaning making, and listening deeply to the parts of ourselves and our teens who are still figuring it all out. We also talk how IFS can overlook the developmental and cultural realities of adolescence. This conversation left me feeling full of insight and hope. Speaking of hope, be sure to check out my extended interview with this trio over on The One Inside on Substack, where they each share what is giving them hope right now. In this episode, we explore:
Ann-Katrin Bockmann, Ph.D. is a licensed clinical psychologist and speech therapist, certified IFS and Somatic IFS therapist, IFS approved clinical consultant and Co Lead Trainer for the IFS Institute. She works at the Institute of Psychology at Hildesheim University (Germany) and in private practice. Kasra Mirzaie is a licensed psychotherapist, research assistant, and teacher in Germany who works with people of all ages in diverse psychological, educational and medical contexts. Robin Barre is a Level 3 trained IFS psychotherapist and approved consultant. She also is a professional consultant for those who provide services for adolescents. Episode Sponsors: Curious what Internal Family Systems looks like in action? Join IFS Demoz, a live demonstration series led by IFS pioneer Mike Elkin. Whether you're new to IFS or a seasoned practitioner, these sessions offer powerful insights into how the model truly works. Each demo includes an open, inclusive Q&A—so bring your curiosity. Live sessions happen weekly on Zoom, and recordings are available to all registrants. A supportive community can change everything when you're learning and applying the IFS model. The Collective is an online space for IFS therapists and practitioners to connect with like-minded professionals, build confidence, refine their skills, and feel truly supported as they bring IFS into their clinical work. | IFS and No Bad Parts with Richard Schwartz | 09 Jul 2021 | 00:53:32
Here we are! - Together for the 100th episode with Dick Schwartz. Dick has always been supportive and kind to me- from meeting him when I came out of a consultation group and he was standing in a hallway alone, to an unfortunate situation at a conference. He has been open and available for this podcast, and I am so grateful. Dick has a new book out this week called "No Bad Parts," which we planned to talk about. And we do- a little bit. What happened during our chat was we just started catching up. Then this transitioned to us both sharing some things 'off the record.' And, of course, Dick does not want to just TALK about the model- he wants to do it. So he says to me, "We can do a little piece of work if you want ..." How could I not agree!? So, that is what a big piece of this episode is- a demo of the model. You get to hear Dick doing the model and you get to hear me working with my parts. My hope for you is that you are able to go down your own trailheads as you listen. My hope for you is you learn something about this model. My hope for you is you get to witness the founder of IFS facilitate a session. Here is a bit of an outline: - Checking in - Trailheads - Dick's 'obsessed with IFS' part - Demonstration of the Model (from about 15 minutes until about 40 minutes) - The book- No Bad Parts - Bigger Plans for IFS Check out the silly faces we made on my social media pages :) Connect with me on Instagram, Twitter and Clubhouse @ifs.tammy and on The One Inside Facebook page. I wanted to talk to him about how he is doing and what is going on in his life. So! This is not just about trauma or his book. This is not about what is happening in the IFS world since Frank is an insider. This is not about Frank's workshops and IFS manuals and all those things. This episode - the 99th episode- is about authenticity. We talk about the book, of course. And, we talk about trauma. Mostly, we talk about family, love, and connection and their power to heal all of us. Frank says, "Love Heals What Trauma Blocks." ----- You can connect with Frank on Instagram @frank_andersonmd, Twitter @frankandersonmd, and Clubhouse @frankandersonmd. I'm so thrilled to welcome Dick Schwartz, the founder of Internal Family Systems (IFS), back to the podcast, as well as my friend Ocean, who brings her voice and lived experience to this important conversation. Today, we explore the intersection between IFS and the plural community--those living with DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder) and OSDD (Other Specified Dissociative Disorders). What's the difference between DI parts and the IFS parts many of us talk about? How can we bridge misunderstandings between the IFS community and those living with more distinct parts? This conversation was deeply moving and healing. I'm so grateful to both Dick and Ocean for their honesty, wisdom, and compassion. In this episode, we explore:
Be sure to watch the extended video interview with Dick and Ocean over on our Substack. Favorite Quotes: "IFS was never meant to pathologize people. It was meant to honor the fact that all of us are multiple, and that those parts aren't what they seem." — Dick Schwartz "There's a huge difference between saying, 'Your parts are managers, firefighters, and exiles,' and saying, 'I'm noticing some of your parts seem to be taking on these roles to protect you.'" — OceanAbout Tiffany "Ocean" Morgan Tiffany Morgan (Ocean) is a Certified IFS therapist, consultant, and educator with lived experience of OSDD (Otherwise Specified Dissociative Disorder). On today's episode I chat with Mary Kruger, a lead trainer with the IFS Institute and one of the developers of the Level Two Addiction training. Disease is disharmony; IFS restores harmony. We talk about family and trauma. We talk about the connection and shame reducing power of group work. Mary talks about looking inside, even though a part may fear the badness and shame that may be found there, and the healing when we take back in who we are truly intended to be.
