Control the Controllables03 Aug 202200:32:14
So much of life is completely outside of our control—the people we run into, unfortunate circumstances, our genetics, our ethnicity, and more.
Yet many of those uncontrollable things are what cause so much stress, frustration, and anxiety in life. When they seem to turn against us (as they sometimes do), it can drain our energy and block our happiness.

Psychological blocks they are invisible, until they aren’t.06 Apr 202200:43:54
Psychological blocks – they are invisible, until they aren’t.
Instead, they are smacking you in the face and you do what ever you can to avoid facing them – deflection, redirection,
avoidance, concentrating on something else so you don’t have to pay attention to the real issue.
We all do it on some level and for those of us fighting obesity, it only wastes precious time when we could be fighting our
way to a healthier life.

Do you know that your mindset can make the difference between success and failure in your
journey to good health?
Everything begins with the mind… and the body will follow.
Factors such as trauma and grief can be addressed and used to help you in your journey.
You just need the right tools.

What social distancing and obesity have in common29 Apr 202000:32:37
Think about it:
Due to a specific set of circumstances, we are all being limited in our activities.
Out of necessity, we are in social distance and quarantine mindset.
We have been isolating, out of necessity.
We have been limiting everything we do and everywhere we go, out of necessity.
Our worlds have gotten a LOT smaller – out of necessity.

A person who is obese, due to a specific set of circumstances (childhood abuse, trauma, emotional torture) is limited in their activities.
We limit everything we do and everywhere we go, out of necessity.
Our worlds are a lot smaller than they should be, out of necessity.
We are isolated, out of necessity.
We are constantly in a social distancing mindset, because not many people want to get close to us.
And by the way, have you notice what’s happening to folks right now, after being in isolation for a month?
They’re impatient They’re grumpy They’re depressed They’re frustrated
They’re in despair They’re full of worry They’re going stir crazy!

How Did I Get Here02 Oct 201900:22:44
I thought a lot about it and I think I have it figured out –

From a very young age, I was taught that when things weren’t going well, food would make me feel better. “Eat Seaney, eat” (my sweet mother)

I didn’t know and didn’t think about if this way of dealing with life, stress, disappointment was the RIGHT way to deal with it.

Life was challenging for me –I told you before how I lost my dad when I was a very young age, I was the youngest (by a lot) of 5 kids and when my dad died, everyone dealt with the loss in their own way…

I think that was the beginning.

There was no such thing as “grief counseling” back then.. . . . You just pushed on. That’s how you handled things.

I was very young and I didn’t even realize how deeply we were affected.

For years, I distracted myself with sports, music, running around with my friends… I piled things on, maybe to hide, or to avoid what I was feeling.

I've asked myself how the heck did i get here, because it was never my goal to be 687lbs!!!
Breaking The Obesity Stigma25 Sep 201900:18:33
Obesity impacts one in three Americans. It is estimated that more than 93 million Americans are affected by obesity, with that number predicted to rise to 120 million in the next five years. Within this population, it is estimated that 8-10 million Americans are affected by severe obesity – a disease characterized by an individual being 100 pounds or more over their ideal body weight.

As any individual affected by obesity knows, obesity is a complex chronic disease. It is not simply a condition caused by overeating.

Individuals affected often experience a wide variety of other obesity-related conditions including diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, heart disease, sleep apnea and cancer, which are serious medical risks.

Adding to the challenge, individuals affected are often denied access to needed medical treatment (medical weight management and/or bariatric surgery) as some payors (insurance companies, etc.) and employers do not recognize obesity as a disease.

The OAC encourages individuals affected by obesity to educate themselves about obesity, its complications and treatments. We believe that educated individuals are best able to make decisions about their healthcare, and therefore are able to be healthier and happier.
One size fits all myth18 Sep 201900:21:43
OSFA means One Size Fits All --  It’s great for things like hats, scarves, baby bibs and dog collars . . but what about more important things like, workout routines diet choices?
One-size-fits-all is more than just a blanket way of covering everyone’s head or ensuring a cool large beach towel – it’s a mentality that can and has had dire consequences. – because to put it plainly,
** when it comes to health and fitness, one size does NOT fit all **
Invisible Individuals11 Sep 201900:22:03
The Morbidly Obese are ignored, not considered by society in general.
It’s like society is blaming and shaming us for our physicality, without even TRYING to understand why, or help us out of this situation we are in.
We’ve got ‘awareness’ for everything, every circumstance, situation, ailment out there – with the exception of morbid obesity.
It feels like unless there’s some popular mega star standing there asking for folks to join the plight, we are left to ourselves.
The “Ignore it, and it isn’t happening” mentality.  That absolves them from accountability from everything to airline seats that are a mere 14 inches wide to watch bands that are too short to wear comfortably around the wrist.
Putting Fact To Fat11 Aug 201900:25:52
Day and the life of a fat person23 Feb 202200:31:32
I want to address the current day-to-day problems obese people face. Lack of facilities, amenities and weight bearing equipment means that this growing population is subjected to a poorer quality of life and ostracized from a society built for ‘normal weight’ people.

Many people assume that obese people are always happy as they get to eat what they want but that is not really true. If you are an obese person yourself, you must know what I am saying and if you are not, you have no clue about it.

Here’s a look at just some of the most common everyday struggles for people living with obesity.

Overcoming the victim mentality19 Jan 202201:01:06
Life can be tough for all of us sometimes and for some of us. It can seem like life only exists to punch you in the face and kick you when you are down. If that happens enough, it can be very easy to slide into a victim mentality. People who struggle with obesity and the prejudices and challenges that ensue; have to guard against this happening. Cari, Sean, and Tom help identify what a victim mentality can look like and how to guard against it and help others as well. Join the revolution now
