Happy New Year all! We hope you got all the videogames you wanted and most importantly some well earned time to enjoy them! We certainly did, in the gift of Machine Games' remarkable Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, which really didn't need to be anywhere near as good as it turned out in the end. So good in fact to receive full honours from at least one of us in our regular games of the year segment as is tradition.

We also go over the big winners from the recent Game Awards show just before Christmas, as well as a detailed analysis of the big announcements. We'll be back in 12 months to see how right we were about the success or indeed, actual release, of said phenomena. Hopefully with less technical gremlins this time, which I shall leave for you, dear listener, to discover and enjoy in this most festive #NOTplaying Podcast!

After that disaster-piece of an episode last time around, we thought we'd try super hard to make this one a success, it could be argued even, that we overcompensated. Rob even took one for the team and shelled out an exorbitant sum for a PS5 Pro just to make up for it. He's even had to play Star: Wars: Outlaws in it's newly patched 60FPS + DLC glory. Oh and the new Dragon Age. It's been a tough old time. It really has.

And then there's poor old Marcus, with his time on the Monster Hunter Wilds Open Beta only for it to be taken away until it's proper release date early next year, at least Will was man enough to tackle S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 - Heart of Chornobyl.

We hope you find this episode more acceptable, or at least how much we suffered for it :)

We can only apologise for this one. If it wasn't connections dropping or random things banging around, it was furiously typing to look things up. It's all a bit of a mess this week sadly :(

Amidst the Chaos however, we were able to lay down our highlights from the most recent online presentations from Microsoft & Sony, as well our thoughts on a couple of cool indie games which recently came out: Devolver's delightfully artistic The Plucky Squire and UFO 50, a proposition so bizarre extreme measures were implemented to deal with it.

We're back! After an extended summer break in which Rob actually succumbed to the great videogame staff cull of 2024 and therefore played the most disgusting amount of actual videogames possible.

And who can blame him the summer took so long to actually begin, but begin it finally did and off went Marcus and Will a frolicking...

So yeah - it's mostly Rob who's bringing the games this week, namely Star Wars Outlaws and Space Marine 2. Will & Rob have BOTH played Thank Goodness You're Here though, to varying levels of success.

All this and everything we missed at Gamescom, the Playstation 5 Pro - which will hopefully reverse Sony's fortunes after the disastrous launch(?) of Concord and much much more!

It's good to be back :)

E3 might be dead, but we still got a boat load of trailers last weekend and as usual we're here to talk all about it. We all loved the look of Ubisoft's imminent Star Wars Outlaws, which got two enormous gameplay reveals at their conference, while Monster Hunter Wilds cut through with it's unique beasts and intense weather conditions. Not to mention a whole host of surprises we cover at length.

Before all that though, Rob got himself a month of Gamepass to play Ninja Theory's long awaited yet somewhat underwhelming Senua's Saga Hellblade II as well as a whole grab bag of treats also on the service.

Not sure when we'll be back, summer commitments allowing, we may do a spoilercast on Baldur's Gate 3 or something... if Rob & Will ever finish it.

We don't normally bang on about TV shows (We'd be a man down if we did), but while we have been playing some new stuff, the biggest single event in videogames for the past month or so would have to be the miraculous conversion of Bethesda's beloved videogame series into passive televisual entertainment and who are we to argue with the alleged 65 million people who watched it!

Back in actual videogame land though, Will has been leading the charge with his time on Dragon's Dogma 2, while Rob and Marcus are still knee deep in Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth and Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden respectively.

So much for a fallow year, for here we are with a brand new potential GOTY contender EACH! And so early in the year we are too!

As was very well signposted in our last episode, Marcus has finally polished off 2020's FFVII Remake just in time for it's follow-up, Rebirth, which he has so far been sacrificing sleep for, Will has been diving into hell, with sleeper hit of the year, Helldivers 2 and Rob decided to roll the dice on Dontnod's Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden, which features a pair of protagonists who mostly like to curl up by the fire and...

...it's all about the sleep (groan) on this week's #NOTplaying Podcast

2024 is off to quite a start with extensive showcases from both Microsoft and Sony within the first few weeks of the year as well as a genuine GOTY contender in Ubisoft's latest refresh of the Prince of Persia franchise, which goes back to it's roots in a supremely slick take on the classic 2D 'metroidvania' action platforming genre.

Will's also had the chance to finish God of War Ragnarok as well as have a quick peruse of it's recently released Free DLC, Valhalla, while Marcus has been foaming all over the imminent FFVII Rebirth and the demo that came out along with that dedicated State of Play last week.

All this and loads more of the usual waffle on this week's #NOTplaying Podcast!

The games are coming thick and fast as we approach the end of another year in gaming. And it only feels right that such an incredible 12 months should come to such a crescendo, with Rob having already completed Spider-Man 2 since last episode and moving straight on to Alan Wake 2. On the other hand, Will still hasn't settled on his 'perfect character' to finish Baldur's Gate 3 with and Marcus is still bossing mechs around in Armored Core VI.

We all have lives to varying extents it would seem. Enjoy this our most penultimate episode of 2023! Back soon for Xmas japes and GOTY discussion!

We're emerging from underneath a gigantic pile of gaming rubble this week to share our thoughts on just a handful of titles amidst the current tidal wave of autumn releases.

First up is the almost podcast shattering paradox of Starfield, then we've got the latest (albeit significantly paired back) installment of Assassin's Creed and even Marcus has something new to play in From Software's non-dark-souls-but-still-hard-as-fuck mech resurrection, Armored Core VI.

There's also more futuristic ultra violence in the recently released Robocop: Rogue City demo and the new Cyberpunk 2077 DLC/(MASSIVE)update, Phantom Liberty.

All this and somehow even more on a typically stuffed October edition of the #NOTplaying Podcast!

On this week's show we're catching the last rays of summer from the comfort of Rob's sofa once again as we meet up in person for a change to discuss our usual winning combo of recent gaming news and the games what we have recently been playing.

And this time around we're talking Baldur's Gate 3, which recently exited it's state of early access to equally insane amounts of acclaim and concurent Steam Users. We also highlight some of the moments from Geoff Keighley's ONL Gamescom spectacle and see how Marcus is getting on with Final Fantasy XVI after Rob's valiant attempt at finishing one RPG before the next one turns up..

...speaking of which, what's the in the sky? Is Starfield finally here? See you on the next one! :)

Rob was going utterly insane at Marcus for buying a copy of Final Fantasy XVI without anything to play it on, but it turned out to be an elaborate hilarious joke! For Marcus has actually joined the PS5 space race after all! Listen on for our thoughts on Square's latest entry in their long running franchise! Meanwhile, Will has been performing open heart surgery on Nazi's from distance, in Rebellion's similarly storied series.

E3 may not have happened again in 2023, but it's still that time of year again where we are inundated with showcases and trailers. All the main platform holders more than delivered, with Microsoft devoting almost half of their 90+ minute event to the monolithic Starfield and Sony showing off a good 15 minutes of the imminent full sequel to Spider-man. There's even a surprise news story to finish things off....

We'll be back with our thoughts on Final Fantasy XVI very soon!

Games games and more GAMES. That's all we're talking about this week simply because that's all we have time for, aside from perhaps a quick update on the whole Microsoft Activision saga, which likely will continue to rage on for the rest of 2023.

Like I just said though, there's no time for that though on a episode that features likely more than one GOTY contender and there can be no more likely candidate than the 20th entry in Nintendo's storied Zelda franchise, which builds on the previous game, Breath of the Wild in some unique and interesting ways. The same could be said for Respawn's second Jedi game, unlike Capcom's new Street Fighter game, which is arguably it's most unhinged version to date.

Anyway, I barely have time to continue typing this now. I have Zonai devices to catch... or something.

E3 might not be happening this year, but we still have plenty to discuss this month, including release dates for Starfield and the much delayed Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League. We've also all been going a bit gooey over Sony's recent Final Fantasy focussed State of Play, so expect much more on that game when it releases in just a couple of short months time!

And Rob's been having a right old spring clean of stuff he started before Christmas, so some final thoughts on God of War Ragnarok & Midnight Suns, before launching into how Team 17's Dredge has helped him fall back in love with his much neglected Nintendo Switch.

All this and much much more on a most spring-fevered #NOTplaying Podcast!

After a few understandably slow years it's quite refreshing to have not 1 but 2 significant game releases this early in the year, not to mention some timely updates from the main players in our delightful hobby.

These haven't been without controversy though, with the games media understandably frustrated by Microsoft's shadowdrop release of Bethesda and Tango Gameworks' rhythm-action mashup, Hi-Fi Rush, while out on the frontlines of Ukraine the deputy minister of digital transformation is seeking a worldwide ban on Mundfish's recent ode to the Bioshocks, Atomic Heart. Because they love peace or something...

All this and the usual updates on other things we've been playing - there's even a little tabletop time this week after Rob's recent indulgent excursion to the Cotswolds!

The moratorium on saying 'Happy New Year' may be up, but we're still only in January so there's time for us to finally share our favourite games of 2022. Well, Rob did anyway. The others have their excuses, but you can wait for them to explain themselves. We're also forecasting the year ahead as is usual for this time in the calendar and also sharing some games we were playing just before the holidays. Enjoy!

In this most festive and final episode of 2022 we pick out some of our highlights from Geoff Keighley's annual advert (and also awards show) extravaganza, catch up on the latest from Microsoft's epic buyout of Activision & weigh in with our opinions on the divisive Forspoken Demo that recently hit PSN.

And following on from last year's success, Will is back with another cryptic quiz, highlighting the very best games of the year, but spelled wrong to give it just a dash of #NOTplaying flavour.

Back in the new year with our games of 2022 and what we're looking forward to in 2023! Until then, have an absolutely stonking Christmas and a not so shabby new year!

It's not often we all find ourselves in the same room these days, especially given recent events, but as luck would have it, Will happened to be in town around the time our latest episode was due, so we were able to sit round a mike round Rob's and shoot the shit in person. We were also joined by long term friend of the show and #NOTlistening collaborator, Ash.

Top of the list is probably the recent PSVR2 announcement, followed up with great furiosity by the release of God of War Ragnarök, which at time of recording Rob had only played the first few hours of and was still basking in the warm glow of having recently finished A Plague Tale Requiem. Also everyone except Will has been playing the insidiously addictive Marvel Snap - he's been too busy with Overwatch 2 and platinuming Skyrim. Because only PSN trophies count. Or something... :S

Bit of a news-heavy episode this month as we chronicle the inevitable demise of Google Stadia, a slew of announcements from the far-east via Tokyo Game Show, Nintendo Direct & Sony's recent State of Play, while in the west Disney un-delay Midnight Suns and Ubisoft let rip with a absolute cavalcade of information regarding the future of the Assassin's Creed franchise.

Meanwhile in actual gaming land, Rob & Will have been enjoying the latest (final?) instalment of the Monkey Island series, Rob alone has been exploring Sam Barlow's latest FMV curiosity, Immortality and while Marcus (shockingly) hasn't been playing anything much new, he did enjoy the recent Distant Worlds concert at the Royal Albert Hall, which at least amounts to more effort than simply switching on a console...

We didn't think we had a lot to get into this week, but in a moment of supreme scheduling cock-ups we found ourselves recording actually during Geoff Keighley's Gamescom opening night extravaganza, so the miniscule amount of news we did have was ultimately interrupted by a number of unexcepted megatons, including a release date for Return to Monkey Island, which we will likely be talking about more in our next episode!

Let's not get ahead of ourselves though, while gaming time may have been on backburner slightly during the summer months, we all managed to have a go on the much-anticipated cat adventure, Stray, whilst sampling the many delights of Sony's new (playhole) Playstation Plus/Extra/Premium service and Rob's still plugging away at Horizon Forbidden West. Will he finish it in time for God of War Ragnarok?

Sorry for the delay on this episode, but we've all been a bit in the wars lately with various bouts of lingering covid and it's been so hot this week that we plain forgot to put the episode out despite it being in the can for a few days...

And it took a while for us to get round to recording our thoughts on what used to consitute E3 in years past, so this one is actually quite brief compared to our usual extensive coverage, but in a year that's seen it's fair share of delays is there really much point in getting excited about games that may not see the light of day for years to come anyway...

Long term listeners won't be surprised that our conversation here gravitates mostly towards the Bethesda/Capcom end of things, but the big news really is that Will finally got hold of a PS5 and that Rob should have put down actual money that he'd get through Horizon Forbiden West before him. And no, Marcus still hasn't finished the Final Fantasy VII remake, despite being really excited for the next installment of the remake trilogy...

While the last few weeks has seemed a bit quiet on the game release front compared to the bloodbath in February, we've let rather a lot of news stack up this time.

Leading the charge is Sony, with the recently restructured digital membership offerings and a couple of State of Play's covering Hogwarts Legacy and the imminent side-scrolling cousin to Ghost of Tsushima, Trek to Yomi. There's also the wonderful news that Amy Hennig will get a chance to make her Star Wars game finally amidst a truly stacked line-up of entries in that particular franchise currently in development.

As for what we've been playing, Will's chucked a bunch of time into Borderlands spin-off, Tiny Tina's Wonderlands, Rob's been using his Easter break to get to some Gamepass indies and Marcus is still making his way through Elden Ring.

We'll be back some time in June once the dust has settled on whatever this year's #NOTE3 Summer of Games turns out to be. We'll be surprised if there isn't at least something Starfield-shaped at the Microsoft/Bethesda showcase announced for June 12. In the meantime, enjoy this latest episode of the #NOTplaying Podcast!

There's no getting around it, February was a lot. Not 1, not 2, but 3 massive open world games, more multi-billion dollar studio acquisitions and - of course - more delays. Quite a bumper episode this week, since we thought it would be enough to go through which games we are looking forward to in 2022 should they actually come out, but then Microsoft thought they would kick the year off with the absolute megaton of them deciding to purchase the troubled Activision/Blizzard.

What ramifications will this have on the industry? And how good will this be for gamers? All this and more on our first proper episode of 2022!

Sorry you've had to wait until 2022 for our end of 2021 wrap-up, but this festive period was double festive given the completely unfestive nature of the last one. So while Rob's been battling his backlog to offer up the most comprehensive top 3 possible, Will's been creating a brainteasing quiz for us all to suffer through and Marcus... well, Marcus has had enough of his own challenges recently that we're just glad he turned up.

So gather round, hang your logs on the tree, throw your children in the fire and be glad that it's all over for another year. Hope you all had a good one and happy new year to any of you who are still actually listening to our drivel... Here's to many more! :)

So this week's show was very much teased last time around because of the awkwardness of a certain game's release date falling on the same day we recorded. So here - finally - is our in-depth opinion on Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy as well as Will's thoughts on the closing moments of Far Cry 6, some recounting of our efforts to all finally group up on Aliens: Fireteam Elite and Rob's vain attempt at getting Forza Horizon V's multiplayer mode to work.

In what might be the worst bit of scheduling in this podcast's almost decade long history, we ended up recording this episode about 1 hour after the release of Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy. Even though new games are finally coming out again, Sony's latest console is still fairly bereft of them so this holiday season, we're getting some massive announcements instead so you can at least buy a PS5 in the knowledge that there will some day be a reason for it.

Entitled cynicism aside, the announcement of not one but two Marvel-based Insomniac Games cannot be understated, whilst more footage of the next God of War promises more of the same, which is really just fine as far as we're concerned.

And both Rob & Will have been reacquainted with the concept of a brand new AAA game this month in the form of Arkane's Deathloop and that isn't even the only groundhog-day-time-loop game this week. Whodofthunkit!?!

It's been fairly slim pickings on the new game front so far this year, but Sony at least had one card to play in the latest installment of Ratchet & Clank, which sees the lovable lombax and his mechanised pal span multiple realities in an adventure that truly harnesses the power of PS5.

And as if that wasn't enough, they drop a State of Play on us deep-diving into the upcoming Horizon Forbidden West, which whilst spanning both console generations, surely couldn't look more beautiful if they tried.

There's also some non-sony goodness to be had, mostly on the fighting front, with Guilty Gear Strive and the remaster of Virtua Fighter V and a fair amount more besides... Enjoy!

It's that time again, so buckle up babies as we go through our highlights of this year's slightly-more-organised-than-2020's-summer-of-games E3!

While this year's event may still have been virtual, fairly light on release dates and once again a sony-free zone, there were still some notable glimpses into our gaming future. Microsoft once again claiming a massive piece of the pie post their bethesda acquisition and lauding their enormous gamepass wand over nearly every game in sight, but there were also a few surprises from Ubisoft and Square in the form of some potentially lucrative licenses, namely Avatar & Guardians of the Galaxy! And of course, Devolver once again added some much needed satire & gore!

Listen on for more as well as some of the finer points not to mention a sprinkling of cautious optimism on this year's annual E3 extravaganza!

As our last episode may have hinted there's a fair amount of Monster Hunter talk on this one. Rob even managed to squeeze a bit of time in with the demo so it's not a complete monologue from Marcus.

There's also been some news, mostly about inevitable covid/anti-crunch related delays, but also this years videogaming BAFTAs which for the second year running we were unable to attend, but they went ahead with anyway.

All this and a few other things that aren't Monster Hunter on most definitely not delayed #NOTplaying podcast!

Will might be in the midst of a between game slump, but his ears certainly pricked up upon news of Sony's next wave of VR tech, which we begrudgingly have to concede has been his call for the last 2 years or so of predictions we've run on this show.

Meanwhile Rob is utterly dismayed by the firing of Bloodlines 2 developer, Hardsuit Labs, spelling almost certain doom for the project in question, but was somewhat bouyed by the strategic depth of Gears Tactics and the sheer badassery of being Batman in Arkham VR, which he'd been putting off playing until he had enough space to swing a batarang around in.

And finally Marcus is the one landing on the cutting edge of gaming once again, with a return to his Capcom franchise of choice, for of course the Monster Hunter Rise demo landed recently. Since recording both(!) his copies of the full game have arrived, so you can be sure we'll be diving into that in more detail next time...

Until then, a quick apology for the quality of Rob's track this week. He hadn't quite gotten all the goblins out of his new headset at the time of recording and believe us when we say we paid for it when it came to editing his horribly distorted and squished contribution!

On this week's show we're talking about Ubisoft's OTHER open world game loosely based around Greek Mythology, Immortals Fenyx Rising, Bloober Team's impressively creepy looking The Medium and Marcus is now comfortably back in the arms of Final Fantasy VII after realising that he could have spent 2020 playing that instead of stressing about what a shit year it was, proving that videogames really are the best kind of distraction during any kind of apocalypse. Hoorah!

We ended up ranting so much on our last recording that we thought we might as well break this more news-orientated chat into it's own thing. Hardly surprising considering these very early game announcements all concern IP dating back to our childhoods: IO interactive making a Bond game? Machine games making a Indiana Jones game? And Ubisoft making an open-world single player Star Wars game? If they can manage to succeed where EA failed, then surely gamers around the world can cry out in joy. Could the circle finally be complete? Listen on to hear what we think...

And in case you were wondering... Yes. Despite the games not exactly coming thick and fast for the foreseeable, we still seem to have enough earfood for you to go fortnightly again... at least while present conditions continue and we don't have to waste time on trains when we can be playing and talking about games instead.

Back in a couple of weeks with our thoughts on The Medium, Immortals Fenyx Rising & more!

If this year goes to plan hopefully some of the games mentioned in this episode will come out before the end of it, as we once again cast our beady eyes over some of our most anticipated games to be released in the near future.

Obviously, with things being as they are, take all of this with an enormous dollop of salt. Some of our picks are fanciful to say the least. If Kratos swings his blades before we do this again then 2022 will have a lot to live up to...

It's been a rough year for most forms of media, but despite a few high profile delays and famously botched launches, for the most part videogames have thrived, with lockdown restrictions and increased free time due to homeworking, we've more time than ever before to escape into digital worlds while the real one burns around us.

So it's that time of year once more where we count through our favourite games of the year, the ones we've managed to play anyway. We also nominate a few honourable mentions that didn't quite make the cut...

Tune in next week for our most anticipated games of 2021!

While the world might be at a standstill, that hasn't made any difference to videogames, especially in a year that sees the launch of a new generation of consoles. One of which, we've finally got our sticky paws on. Well, Rob has at least. Not to be outdone however, Will's been holding up the ubisoft fort, having played a signifant amount of both Assassin's Creed Valhalla and Watch Dogs Legion. Two games that have been very much on our minds for the past year or so.

And isn't it a blessed relief to have so much virtual fun in these perilously harsh times. There is only one landmark yet to come in 2020 and you can bet we'll be back to discuss that particular title before the end of the year, assuming Cyberpunk 2077 will actually come out!?!

With the next generation of videogame consoles imminent, we thought we'd take some time to reflect on some of the more notable events of the past 7ish years. The highs, the lows and the outright weird. In other news, Rob remembered that Star Wars Squadrons is the game he's been waiting for forever...

Sorry for our tardiness this month, but we were dearly holding on for some more information on the next gen console launches before we recorded and Sony weren't that forthcoming until last week!

On this episode we're finally talking prices, release dates and which platform might have the brightest future. Last minute plot-twists ahoy!

Also Will & Rob have been dabbling in a bit of Wasteland 3, Marcus has had his finger on the pulse of Among Us and collectively we've all fallen for Devolver's devious hype plan, the fiends...

We've been holding this one back a bit to give everyone a proper chance to play it, because naughty dog's long awaited follow up isn't exactly something you can marathon through. It's relentlessly bleak, torturously long-winded, but also probably the best game anyone will play this year, or decade even.

So here's Will & Rob spoiling the absolute shit out of it for Marcus, who kindly volunteered to act as audience surrogate. Enjoy... or if perhaps you are still intending to play this game, please turn back now before it's too late...

There weren't any dancing pandas at this year's Ubisoft 'Forward' online event the other week, but they made up for it with some 'actual' gameplay (finally) of the imminent Assassin's Creed Valhalla and the surprise reveal of a new Far Cry game!

And since we've all been stuck at home for the most part, both Rob & Will have been charging through Suckerpunch's Ghost of Tsushima, so have much to share about that.

The Summer of Games keeps on swinging in lieu of there being any proper E3 this year and on this edition of the #NOTe3 show we're taking our first look at the Playstation 5, as well as the first batch of games that will be available for the system, a new X-Wing game (Finally!) in EA's Star Wars Squadrons and a load more juicy details on the eternally and torturously delayed Cyberpunk 2077.

And as if that wasn't enough, Rob & Will have been playing through Naughty Dog's much anticipated and incredibly grim The Last of Us Part 2.

So E3 is definitely cancelled this year, but all that news has got to go somewhere and it looks like Geoff Keighley is on the right track, beginning what looks likely to be a regular drip feed of announcements over the entire summer to begin preparing us for the new console generation kicking off at the end of the year.

So on this week's show, we spend most of our time picking over the various morsels that have been demoed (or #NOT) to us so far, including the latest installment of the currently (in our humble opinion) GOTY quality Assassin's Creed series, quite possibly the final PS4 exclusive Samurai Adventure, Ghost of Tsushima and the latest version of the game engine that powers just about everything, Unreal 5.

All this and some rambling about what we're currently playing at the end.

We'll see you next time for some Last of Us Part 2 chat, assuming it's not delayed again ;)

We're still in lockdown, but Marcus finally got his hands on the game he's been anticipating for over a decade, Rob's finally sunk his fangs into Assassin's Creed Odyssey with a dabbling of Disco Elysium on the side and some co-op fun in Divinity Original Sin 2 and well, poor old Will is in a bit of a gaming funk. So much so that he's even given the new Fallout 76 Wastelanders expansion (?) a spin. All this and more on another very much locked down #NOTplaying Podcast!

It's been a while since we last posted an episode and to be honest we weren't expecting to be back with you so soon, but then a mutant plague got inflicted upon the world and we're all holed up in our various hobbit holes with not very much to do.

There's always gaming though and oh how very much we've fallen back on our erstwhile hobby of choice. We've been subscribing to various online services, re-embracing the art of co-op online multiplayer and finally getting to play some games that until recently seemed like nothing more than a pipedream - all in a desperate bid to stay sane during these most apocalyptic of times.

It's all hands on deck for a most unexpected #NOTplaying Podcast!

Happy 200 episodes to us! And what better time to chime in on all those 'End of Decade' lists that have been filling up every corner of the internet over the past couple of months? Well, better late than never. We were originally gonna just hit the highlights since the podcast started in 2013, but 10 years is a nicer, rounder number. Enjoy!

Happy New 2020!

On this suitably festive episode Marcus and Rob are quizzed by Will (literally), we run through some of the games we've recently been playing and then choose our favourite games of 2019.
