So why am I starting a podcast about dreams?

My hope for this podcast is to inspire our generation to steward the revelation God wants to release through dreams – that He IS releasing. If we don’t create time and space to remember, record and interpret our dreams, the substance of this amazing gift will slip through the cracks of our busy lives. We will flounder unnecessarily if we are disconnected from the counsel God wants to release to us in the night when we are at rest, quiet and most receptive to Him.

Do you believe God wants to speak to you? Do you believe God is excited to reveal things to you that you couldn’t otherwise know? I do! 

What if the night life was meant for so much more than just sleeping? What if it’s possible to receive keys in the night that affect your actions and decisions during the day? What if there are upgrades available for your life and it’s your choice whether you download the upgrade or just settle with the old version because it seems to be working good enough?

CS Lewis said “If we find ourselves with a desire that nothing in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that we were made for another world.” 

Today, we will hear from many people who have had dreams of heaven. Some are recent and some many years past, but the details of these dreams are often remembered vividly for a lifetime. I have been extraordinarily touched hearing from others on this topic, not only regarding dreams but also visions and near-death experiences. For this episode we are sticking to dreams, but let me tell you it brings me such joy watching people come alive recounting supernatural encounters that touched their lives in meaningful and sometimes life-altering ways. 

When you think of heaven, you may envision a scene brimming with stunning beauty, golden, bright light, illuminous colors, gold, pearls or precious stones, images of a bride or wedding, Jesus, angels, loved ones who have passed away, multitudes of people of different races and nations, feelings of overwhelming love, peace, joy, homecoming and being more alive than ever before. 

These dreams offer profound encouragement in hard times, reminding us that life on earth is temporary – that we are just passing through. Sometimes these have the effect of drawing people into God’s kingdom for those who don’t yet know Him, like so many testimonies we hear of Muslims being saved through encountering Jesus in a dream. While in heaven, some people experience special revelation, an impartation, healing, calling or some other gift of God.

Calling dreams are a special way God reveals the plans and purposes He dreamed for us before we were even created. God spoke to the prophet Jeremiah: “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.” 

Every aspect of God’s physical creation has a specific design and purpose and the same is true for every person: God envisioned everything about us before we were even conceived and is constantly inviting us to see ourselves as we truly are in His image. 

While I’m so aware of God’s amazing grace in my life, empowering me to do what I otherwise couldn’t, I am comforted to remember that His work on earth is always done through imperfect people. His desire for each of us is a life flowing out of relationship with Him – the awe-inspiring result of our humanity infused with His divinity. 

Above all, remember that we are God’s kids and more than anything He wants to love and enjoy us, and for us to love and enjoy Him.

What comes to mind when you hear the word apocalypse? Possibly images of utter destruction or a dystopian scene where no one is safe and evil and chaos have taken over the earth? I was intrigued to find the Greek definition and usage for the word apokalypsis means: laying bare, making naked, disclosure of truth, manifestation, appearance, revelation or coming. 

Apocalyptic dreams are very common, showing us what is really there, or really coming, whether wonderful or terrifying or both. All of these dreams have a common theme: a place of refuge amidst great devastation. Those who chose to take shelter are saved and the rest are not. 

While we all have important, God-ordained things to do on this earth, our modern lifestyle offers endless opportunities to squander our lives away. It takes effort to choose our pursuits wisely. We must constantly align ourselves with the truth that we are spiritual beings, created to live from and towards eternity in connection with our Creator. Whether through dreaming or awake, we all have eyes to see into the unseen realm if we will use them.

At times it may seem like Jesus is sleeping in the back of the boat while we are near being capsized on the tumultuous sea of political waters. Has anyone experienced seasickness watching the news or financial markets in the past couple of weeks? Despite our feelings of disorientation, we can be sure God is on the throne and available to help us in whatever rough waters we find ourselves in. 

There is almost nothing that affects our daily lives more than politics. I’ve had so many political dreams through the years and am always growing in my understanding of how to interpret them. 

We live in a time where otherwise reasonable people have gone feral, attacking those with opposing viewpoints – sacrificing families and friendships on the altar of politics as if their very lives, not just their ideologies, were in danger. Sadly, most of what we call news today is actually propaganda, precisely designed to provoke fear and anger that prevent people from thinking clearly. The effects are widely seen. 

As we look at so many infamous atrocities throughout human history, the obvious question is how such evil people and plans gained power to begin with. Albert Einstein famously said: “The world will not be destroyed by those who do evil, but by those who watch them without doing anything.” No one person is going to save the world, but let’s tune into what God may be showing us in the night life, so that we can be faithful to do our part.

There is a golden key to understanding our dreams: the element of time and seasons. I’m sure you’ve heard the saying “timing is everything.” Our dreams are usually set in a certain tense of time – past, present or future – and the interpretation and application of the message in the dream critically depends on this detail.

I’ll be honest, I’m a nerd on this topic. There are a handful of gifts mentioned in the Bible that I long for, and one of them is found in 1 Chron. 12:32 where it speaks of the sons of Issachar having understanding of the times, knowing what Israel ought to do. Isn’t this fascinating?? God gifted one of the 12 tribes of Israel with a special gift to discern times and seasons, and the resulting actionable wisdom for the entire nation of Israel!

Whether making a move, starting a business, having an important conversation, ordering your day or something as simple as washing your car – truly, timing is key!

Jesus is our example of how to live. Each of us has everything we need to run OUR race, not someone else’s. We have a destiny that we are uniquely designed for, that requires preparation and determination on our part, yet that cannot be fulfilled without God’s supernatural grace. 

One of the greatest encouragements I constantly receive and love to pass on to others is to show up in life like your presence matters, because it does. The world desperately needs the fullness of the unique divine expression you and I carry.

We have to make war against destructive mindsets that limit our God-given potential – the way we see ourselves, our circumstances and the way we show up – either as a powerless victim or with courage to bring the fullest measure of ourselves to every situation we encounter.

The night life is brimming with God’s wisdom and counsel if we determine to pay attention and then create space for divine curiosity to draw us into deeper waters. Who we’re becoming in the process of searching is just as important as what we walk away with as we are learning to think like God, to understand the language of His Spirit and how to partner with Him in every area of our lives.   

Significant numbers and colors in our dreams bring profound depth and fullness to the message, so these symbols are definitely worth investigating. Remember: if God is the author of your dream, then He is the one who holds the interpretation. Take on this adventure with childlike curiosity and faith that God wants you to find the treasure, even if it takes some digging.
