Johnny Han is a visual effects artist and is currently serving as the visual effects supervisor on The Nevers. Johnny has a range of experience in television and film, and his credits include Smallville, Supernatural, Spider-Man 3, Heroes, Pacific Rim, and Lost in Oz.

We chat with Johnny about how he got his start in the business, what his job as a visual effects supervisor on The Nevers entails, and learn the differences between visual effects and special effects. We discuss the working relationship between the VFX and special effects and stunt department, the creative genius that is Joss Whedon, envisioning set pieces and recruiting VFX companies for the series. He shares the pandemic's impact on the VFX business and the challenges of filming during COVID. We discuss filming the now-famous water fight, the challenges of such an ambitious sequence, creating the Primrose character, working on The Nevers with cinematographer Seamus McGarvey, the difficulties involved in designing the Galanthi, advice for VFX artists starting out and much more. Tim Lebbon is a British horror and dark fantasy writer and New York Times bestselling author.

In this episode of In Conversation With... we had the honor of interviewing SETI Institute Senior Astronomer Dr. Seth Shostak. We start with the mission of the Institute and his history working at SETI. We then consider the feasibility of an alien race visiting earth to save humanity from itself (à la the Galanthi in The Nevers) and if wormholes (portals) would be the likely transportation of choice. We also discuss the methods that the SETI Institute is currently using to search for extraterrestrial intelligence and his colleagues' research into extremophiles. We also pick Seth's brain about whether or not time travel, as seen in The Nevers, is possible. He also shares the importance of pop culture in science dissemination and how he got his start working as a scientific consultant for films such as Contact, Battleship, Species 2 and the remake of The Day the Earth Stood Still.
