About COACHING AHA:

We face many points of inflection in our careers and our lives - from new jobs and promotions to difficult bosses and layoffs.

If we had all the time and resources possible, we could certainly figure it out eventually. But we don’t.

The challenge is that we are walking into roles where expectations are sky high, times lines are crunched and there isn’t much patience. So you need an accelerator - and that’s exactly where coaching can help.

Think of coaching as a catalyst for your success.

In Coaching Ahas, we share stories of leaders, their courage and vulnerability to lean into coaching, and the breakthroughs that change their lives forever.

Notes & Disclaimer:

Coaching is not advising. It is not about giving you answers but about helping you discover your own

Coaching is not therapy. It is primarily future focused, and outcome focused

It helps you …
gain clarity
overcome challenges and limiting beliefs
get unstuck and move forward
explore new possibilities
grow as a person and a leader

A coach cannot guarantee you a job or a promotion or a successful business transformation, but they can help you get out of your own way and prepare for it, to increase your probability of success.

It is easy to dismiss skeptics. It is immeasurably harder to have empathy for them, their fears and concerns. If science was out in the world looking for an advocate, for someone to tell her side of the story, I have no doubt it would be Jayshree‼️

✅ Reality : Nope! The goal of networking is to learn someone’s “2nd story”, and build lifelong relationships.

🚫 Myth : Networking is about self promotion

✅ Reality : Nope! Networking is about curiosity, humility and a desire to learn. It works much better than trying to impress someone, especially senior execs.

🚫 Myth : Senior people don’t want to be bothered. Why would they spend time with me? What do I have to offer?

✅ Reality : Senior people want to give back, and want to share their wisdom, but have to be approached in the right way. Your life experiences and your current vantage point is unique and hence, enough.

🚫 Myth : Networking is for extroverts

✅ Reality : Nope. Pat describes herself as naturally reserved, intentionally curious. Her curiosity fuels her drive to network.

🚫 Myth : Networking is about the number of people you know

✅ Reality : Networking is about the depth of those relationships. A small number of deeper relationships is better than a large number of superficial ones.

Pat Hedley is an Independent Board director, TedX Speaker, Author of ‘Meet 100 People’ and former Managing Director at General Atlantic. She is on a mission to help people overcome their reluctance and tap into the power of networks to learn and grow.

S1E07 - Be your own sponsor with Reshma Ramachandran, Former Chief Transformation Officer, Adecco06 Mar 202300:30:25

Have you ever worked in a place that had NO women’s restrooms?

Weirdly, both Reshma and I have!

There are so many ways in which we exclude women, without meaning to.

As we swapped stories and reminisced about our early years, 2 things clearly stood out.

1. It takes a special kind of leader, to consciously chose the difficult option, even when they could’ve taken the easier one. They chose to break established traditions and status quo, and hire women for the first time.

2. It takes a special kind of woman, a pioneer, like Reshma, who had to have the strength and courage to carve their own way through these unfathomable challenges.

These organizations wouldn’t be the market leaders they are today, without these pioneers.

Join me, as I chat with my friend and kindred spirit, Reshma Ramachandran, former Chief Transformation Officer of Adecco, a woman on a mission to help people discover their superpower and be their own greatest sponsor.

S2E12 Coaching AHA with Kelly Klein04 Oct 202400:12:42

76% of respondents in the US said they CURRENTLY have or have recently had a TOXIC BOSS (Monster 2018)🤯‼️

This is even more alarming because managers drive 70% of the variance in employee engagement‼️

Toxic bosses often:

⛔️ Care only about themselves

⛔️ Undermine and sabotage

⛔️ Play politics

⛔️ Play favorites

⛔️ Make unreasonable demands

⛔️ Display abusive or destructive behaviors

Toxic bosses impact their people severely:

⛔️ They can destroy your self confidence

⛔️ They can affect your mental health, burnout, work life balance and even relationships outside work

⛔️ They can block your career progression and joy@ work

⛔️ They can break your trust and make you less trusting

In this episode, Kelly shares the story of her brave client who left a toxic situation and rebuilt her life. Her courage is inspiring. Kelly Klein is a fellow coach and business executive, and is passionate about helping people realize their true potential.

Have you ever had a toxic boss?

Remember,

👉 Life is too short to work with a toxic boss

👉 Life is too short to work with an egomaniac

👉 Life is too short to work for an unethical boss

👉 Life is too short to work for an untrustworthy boss

👉 Life is too short to work with someone who makes you miserable

✅ The only people who should ever become managers are those who derive joy and fulfillment from seeing their team shine, and grow.

✅ I have never met a great leader who wasn’t a good human first.

S2E10 Coaching AHA with Rahana Gittens15 Sep 202400:12:28

There are 5 pivotal promotions in our careers. How we perform in them determines how far we go. These are:

  1. First time manager
  2. Manager of managers
  3. Global or Cross Functional Leader
  4. Enterprise leader
  5. CXO

They are characterized by:

✅ Increasing size and scope

✅ Increasing complexity

✅ Increasing volume and diversity of stakeholders

✅ Increasing team and location complexity

✅ Increasing challenges (ahem… problems!) and Increasing Impact

Each of these promotions is complex and needs:

😰 New knowledge, skills & competencies

😰 Effective transition planning that sets you up for success

😰 Greater self awareness

😰 Leadership growth

😰 Overcoming your own barriers and limiting beliefs

No wonder HALF of all leadership transitions fail‼️😱

These promotions should come with ‘how to’ manuals, but they don’t. We are left on our own, to figure out the growth journey we need to undertake to be effective in the new role.

In this episode of Coaching ahas, Rahana shares a story of one such leader and her journey.

S4e02 Unrelenting Curiosity with Tiger Tyagarajan28 Feb 202600:53:35

In this episode of the Mindful Leadership Podcast, Shahana Banerjee sits down with Tiger Tyagarajan, the former CEO of Genpact, to explore the transformative power of curiosity in leadership. Tiger shares his journey from a risk head at GE Capital to leading a global technology powerhouse, emphasizing a "treasure hunt" approach to learning from everyone around him. The conversation delves into the importance of building a legacy through leader-creation, the value of the scientific method in business, and why curiosity and trust remain the most vital human skills in an AI-driven world.

Key Takeaways

- The Treasure Hunt for Knowledge: Instead of seeking a single mentor, treat learning as a constant quest to gather insights and "clues" from every person and situation you encounter.

- Don't Shut Down Ideas Prematurely: Even if you believe an idea is wrong, allowing it to "bloom" can build trust and help others reach the right conclusion through their own discovery.

- Falling in Love with Problems: True innovation and joy in business come from falling in love with the problem before falling in love with a solution.

- The Leader's True Legacy: A leader’s success should be measured by the strength of the institution and the success of the leaders they left behind years after their departure.

- Destabilization Breeds Innovation: Intentionally moving top talent to different teams creates the healthy instability necessary for new ideas to flourish.

- The Power of Expressing Ignorance: Admitting what you don't know breaks down hierarchies and encourages experts within a team to share their knowledge more freely.

- Curiosity as a Competitive Advantage: In an AI world that exploits existing patterns, human curiosity is the essential tool for exploring new breakthroughs.

About Tiger Tyagarajan:

Tiger spent 30+ years of his career as a C-suite leader driving digital and business transformation in the global enterprise space. He played a pivotal role in pioneering a new global business services model and founded and built a division of General Electric (GE Capital International Services) that became Genpact.

He spent the first 15 years of his career with Unilever in sales and marketing leadership roles and then at Citibank and GE Capital in risk, operations and business leadership roles in financial services. After serving as Genpact’s President and Chief Executive Officer from 2011 to 2024, he transitioned to his successor and now serves as a Senior Advisor. He is also on the boards of Jabil, a global manufacturing solutions provider; MathCo, a data, analytics and AI solutions provider for CPG, Retail and Life Science companies; Inetum, a French HQ Tech Services firm, HealthEdge,a digital healthcare software company.

Tiger is a Senior Advisor to Avalt, Bain Capital, BCG, Brighton Park Capital, Bridge Green, Innospark, Aqqrue (Agentic Finance) and HTEC, mostly focused on digital technology, Gen AI, AI/ML and SAAS business investments. In addition, he is the Chair of the Advisory Board of ABSL, a global nonprofit network representing the business services sector.

S4e01 How To Be Bold with Ranjay Gulati18 Jan 202601:04:44

LAUNCHING SEASON 4 with Ranjay Gulati, eminent scholar and Professor of Business Administration at Harvard University, and best selling and award winning author of Deep Purpose and How to be Bold, recognized by Thinkers 50.

CAN YOU SPOT REAL COURAGE? Try this 👇

🤔 Which of these symbolizes courage to you?

🔺Rushing into a burning building to save lives

or

🔺Publishing a book and opening yourself up to global judgement and criticism

🔺Serving as a medic and saving lives in a war zone

or

🔺Being vulnerable at work. Letting your team see the real you

🔺Bungee jumping, sky diving, parasailing

or

🔺Being a whistleblower

You are smart. You know the answer. Each of these instances takes extraordinary courage.

🤔The thing about courage though…

  1. We primarily think of physical courage as THE defining form of courage
  2. We set an unrealistic threshold of what is courageous
  3. We reserve our adulation and recognition for the highest forms of physical courage, while unintentionally undervaluing the everyday courage that ultimately changes the world

🤔Why is that a problem?

👉 It makes courage inaccessible to most

👉 It undervalues the very daily acts of courage that go on to shape the mega acts of courage we ultimately applaud

That’s why I love Ranjay’s book. It demystifies courage and makes it accessible to all. It is also practical as it helps you explore your own sources of courage.

His epiphany, as I hope is true for you too is “I too can be courageous”

This wisdom packed episode with Ranjay is the perfect launch for our Season 4 of The Mindful Leadership Podcast ‼️

🔥 In this episode we dig into what happens when DEEP PURPOSE meets INDOMITABLE COURAGE, why leaders and organizations anchor around their purpose, how they create impact through meaningful action and so much more.

You will be glued till the end, I promise‼️

About Ranjay Gulati:

Ranjay Gulati is the Paul R. Lawrence MBA Class of 1942 Professor of Business Administration and a distinguished organizational sociologist. He is the author of several books including Deep Purpose: The Heart and Soul of High-Performance Companies (HarperCollins, 2022) and How to Be Bold: The Surprising Science of Everyday Courage (Harper Business, 2025).

His pathbreaking research, which focuses on unlocking organizational potential and unleashing human potential, has shown how winning companies—those that prosper both in good times and bad—drive growth and prosperity. At the same time, his research has inspired individuals to unlock possibilities by aligning their own personal purpose with that of their organizations.

The Economist, the Financial Times, and the Economist Intelligence Unit have listed him as among the top handful of business school scholars whose work is most relevant to management practice. He is the recipient of numerous awards for his scholarly research and teaching, including recognition by Thinkers50 as a top management scholar and the CK Prahalad Award for Scholarly Impact on Practice in 2024.
