Last week, the Pentagon's All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) released its Fiscal Year 2025 Consolidated Annual Report on Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena, revealing its latest findings involving unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP). Among its key findings, AARO's report conveys that the Office continues to collect data on hundreds of objects it cannot yet identify and states that some sightings over sensitive military facilities could represent an "unmitigated threat vector" to U.S. national security.

On November 14, 2004, the USS Nimitz Carrier Strike Group Eleven steamed through the clear waters roughly eighty nautical miles west of San Diego beneath cloudless California skies. Unbeknownst to many on board, for nearly a week, operators deep inside the strike group's Combat Information Center aboard the USS Princeton had been watching something they could not explain. Initially dismissed as equipment anomalies, the contacts refused to disappear, returning repeatedly and exhibiting flight characteristics that seasoned radar operators struggled to reconcile with anything they had encountered before.

Throughout the final decades of the 20th century, strange beliefs began to pervade the UFO research community. Ranging from stories of alleged flying saucer crashes, to strange encounters with "malevolent" alien beings, these and other controversial narratives began to predominate the minds of many in the UFO field. Where did these ideas originate, and how have they continued to shape the modern UFO narrative?

After the surrender of Japan that marked the end of the Second World War, American forces began to unravel clues to the existence of a disturbing secret program involving biological experiments carried out on human test subjects during the height of the conflict. Known as "Unit 731", the program has never been officially acknowledged, and although its existence is well established, the American government's secretive dealings with Japanese scientists led to an eastern counterpart to the controversial "Operation Paperclip" that ensued with Nazi scientists after the war.

In 1996, radio host Art Bell received a mysterious package containing small metallic samples and an incredible story. According to the anonymous author of the enclosed letter, the material fragments had been collected during the recovery of an advanced aerospace vehicle that crashed near Roswell, New Mexico in the summer of 1947.

Recently, the All-Domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) conducted a series of tests on the legendary material, whose unique physiochemical properties were claimed to enable "inertial mass reduction" (i.e., levitation or antigravity functionality), potentially due to the bismuth and magnesium layers acting as a terahertz waveguide. In the summer of 1995, following a congressional request, the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) investigated documents related to the alleged crash of a "flying disc" near Roswell Army Air Field (RAAF), New Mexico in 1947. The result, which produced no "smoking gun" evidence of the purported crash, did reveal the mysterious destruction of records from the period, raising questions about who, and under what authority, the records might have been destroyed. 

Now, new draft language has revealed a possible effort by present-day U.S. lawmakers to have the GAO conduct a similar audit of the Pentagon's All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO). In 2017, Luis Elizondo, a former U.S. Army Counterintelligence Special Agent and former employee of the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence, revealed that he had been involved with the U.S. Department of Defense's investigations into unidentified aerial phenomena. In January 2023, a U.S. military pilot reported an encounter with a group of unusual objects flying in a diamond formation over the Gulf of Mexico near Eglin Air Force Base. The incident, which eventually came to the attention of Florida Representative Matt Gaetz, became a matter of public record after Gaetz discussed it during a Congressional hearing in the summer of 2023. 

Now, the DoD's All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office has released its official report on the incident, claiming the case has now been resolved. On March 8, 2024, the Pentagon's All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) released its historical report on UAP, shortly after briefing only a select group of journalists associated with seven mainstream media outlets, none of whom seemingly bothered to fact-check the error-ridden report. "The disappointing lack of critical press coverage of this important report prompted me to begin compiling the insights of UAP scholars and experts who have studied the history of UAP and the US government," wrote former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Intelligence Christopher Mellon, in a recent lengthy rebuttal in response to the report's release.

Since the early days of UFO studies, claims of sightings involving alleged occupants of these unidentified craft have been logged by both civilian and governmental investigative efforts. In the Autumn of 1957, a series of events unfolded that, for a time, left U.S. defense officials believing that the country was on the verge of war with the Soviet Union, as a pair of mysterious objects were tracked on radar systems making their way toward a series of high security facilities. Before action could be taken, the objects mysteriously vanished, and the story receded into the shadows of Cold War memories for decades, prior to a series of once-secret CIA files surfaced detailing the startling incident.

What do such circumstances say about the U.S. military's capabilities in terms of unidentified aerial phenomena? According to the findings of the DoD's All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO), the object that crash-landed near Roswell, New Mexico in the summer of 1947 was a balloon used during a once-secret covert operation called Project Mogul. These findings, of course, are the same conclusions the U.S. Air Force came to decades ago which were detailed in a pair of official reports that sought to definitively explain what, for many, had once been deemed Ufology's "smoking gun"... but could there still be more to the story?

In the 1970s, the existence of a once-secret program called "Project Moon Dust" first came to the attention of UFO researchers employing the Freedom of Information Act to obtain U.S. government documents about unidentified aerial phenomena. On November 17-18, 2023, a symposium of academics, current and former government officials, and other leading voices in the study of unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP) convened for the inaugural Sol Foundation Initiative for UAP Research and Policy event in Palo Alto, California.

The event's stated objectives were to "propose tangible government policies, programs of research, and investment strategies that can meet the challenge of the phenomena," along with elevating the dialogue and generating new approaches toward resolving it. For centuries, reports of strange lights moving through the skies have been reported around the world. In 1973, a bizarre encounter allegedly unfolded on the Isle of Wight, involving two children who claimed to meet an odd, clown-like humanoid figure near Sandown, England. Speaking in odd phrases and appearing to inhabit a strange, makeshift dwelling, the being called itself "All Colors Sam," and despite the obscure origins of the tale, it would eventually gain a cult following within the annals of UFO and high-strangeness lore, remembered today as the story of Sam "The Sandown Clown."

Joining us this week on The Micah Hanks Program to discuss this case from ufology's "Odd Files" is Ryan Whalen, a Brooklyn-based researcher, science reporter, and college instructor who holds an MA in History and a Master of Library and Information Science with a certificate in Data Science. Recently, several lawmakers on Capitol Hill received a classified briefing from the Intelligence Community Inspector General on allegations that first surfaced last year regarding an alleged UAP program that has been illegally withheld from Congress.

The National Defense Authorization Act has been signed into law by the President of the United States, but not without a few concerns, according to an official White House statement citing one of the massive bill's UAP provisions. This, following a showdown in Washington over a landmark bipartisan transparency provision put forward by Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer that saw significant pushback from Congressional leadership that illustrated just how far we may have to go in the fight for government transparency on UAP.

In 1938, an infamous broadcast based on H.G. Wells' classic War of the Worlds allegedly incited confusion and panic as listeners questioned whether a real alien invasion might be underway. While modern analysis of news from the period casts doubt on some of the "panic" claims, the question remains as to what would really happen if the existence of extraterrestrial visitation were revealed under uncontrolled, chaotic means, in a "catastrophic disclosure" of an ET reality?

Earlier this year, a 64-page proposal to bring about the disclosure of information on what the U.S. government calls unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP) was introduced by Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Senator Mike Rounds (R-SD). However, in a potential blow to UAP disclosure efforts, recent pushback from House leadership appeared to be set to severely limit the bill, if not stop it altogether.

In the early morning hours of October 24, 1968, witnesses at Minot Air Force Base, North Dakota, which included security personnel at the installation's intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) launch complex, maintenance staff, the crew aboard an airborne B-52H, all participated in one of the most significant UFO incidents ever to have occurred at high-security United States military base.

Recent revelations by government whistleblowers are raising questions about whether the United States and other nations could have information about the existence of non-human intelligence, or NHI, which has been suppressed for decades. Although recent legislation in America are aimed at bringing such information, if it exists, into the light of day, nations like the United Kingdom appear to have shown no similar movement on the issue. 

This week on The Micah Hanks Program, we are joined by an international panel composed of physicist and former UK civil servant John Priestland and Daniel Stubbings, Ph.D., both of whom are behind a new UK-based initiative called uNHIdden that aims to promote good mental health and reduce anxiety on the issue of non-human intelligence. Also joining the program is a return guest, Ted Roe, who is director of the National Aviation Reporting Center on Anomalous Phenomena (NARCAP) and the UAP Medical Coalition; our guests engage in an in-depth discussion about  NHI, and how to move the discussion about it forward.
