Having grown up in Anchorage, Alaska you would assume that Courtney Lanctot grew up doing all the wilderness activities but that was far from the case. She fully believed the narrative that Black people didn’t do the outdoor things, afterall she hadn’t seen or experienced any positive examples. It wasn’t until 2016 that she had really been in nature for more than a basic hike. During a camping trip with trusted friends, Courtney fell in love with the outdoors.
Courtney is the owner and founder of The Unpopular Black, through which she encourages Black adventure by providing representation, information, and access to the outdoors and adventure activities. Her work includes exploring outdoor places and spaces unpopular to the Black community, transparently educating through social media and her non-profit the National Black Adventure Directory, organizing Black adventure trips and more.
Courtney’s foundation belief is that nature heals and expands you physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Her work is to connect he Black community to this.

This was an amazing episode with Leslie Alvarenga Cuadra aka Queengwen31
When we think about El Salvador, all we see is travel content creators posting how amazing the country is. Great! But, there is also a different side of El Salvador that we may not know. The country of El Salvador claims that they have no existence of Africans in their country. This episode will debunk those myths and dive deeper into the social constructs of the country.
Afro-latinos or formely known as African descendants are alive and well in El Salvador. Their culture is visible of vibrant in certain parts of the country; yet most people do not have any history of them. The question, why does El Salvador deny the fact they were apart of the Transatlantic Slave Trade (although they were the third country in Central America to abolish slavery in 1825? Most african slaves were transported to the shores of El Salvador to work on cocoa and coffee plantations; but yet the country denies this history?
Did you know that in 1933 an immigration law was passed by General Hernandez Martinez to deny the entry of Africans, Irabs, Asians and other ethnicities into the country? Fast forward to 2023, we see similar patterns from a country that is beginning to be a go-to destination for most travelers.
El Salvador’s government has begun slapping a $1,130 fee on travelers from dozens of countries connecting through the nation’s main airport, amid U.S. pressure to help control migration flows to its southern borders.

Donta Broussard aka The Bearded Backpacker is another amazing guest that has blessed the platform with gems.
Learn More about the Guest:
Donta is a passionate traveler and storyteller with a deep love for exploring the world and connecting with people from all walks of life. Born and raised in a small town in Louisiana, he grew up with a curiosity for the world beyond my doorstep. After becoming the first in his family to graduate from college with a degree in economics, he embarked on a journey that has taken me to over 24 countries and counting.
Traveling on a budget, he's experienced the beauty and challenges of backpacking across Europe and beyond, often choosing to stay in hostels and embrace the local way of life. His travels are driven by a desire to learn, grow, and share meaningful stories that inspire others to redefine how and where we travel.
As a content creator, he documents his adventures through vlogs, blogs, and social media, aiming to show the faces behind the places and highlight the diverse cultures that make our world so rich. His mission is to encourage others, especially those from underrepresented backgrounds, to explore the world, step out of their comfort zones, and embrace the unknown.
Whether he is wandering the streets of an ancient city, trying a new dish, or engaging with locals, my goal is to make each journey an opportunity for connection and learning.

Ariana, also known as Ariventuras on Youtube and socials. Se was born in Louisiana and raised all around the US. She comes from a military family who eventually settled in NC. She attended the University of Carolina at Charlotte. After graduating, there was no place in the States that stood out to her as somewhere she would like to live; so she began to get curious about living abroad. She traveled internationally before on a mission trip and for vacation but had never done a full solo trip or been abroad long-term. She started to follow others on social media who were living the nomadic life; which gave her the motivation to take the leap myself in January 2021. She sold her apartment, packed up and haven't looked back since. So far, she has traveled to 33 countries and I now live in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam!
