Battered Time (Discovery - Light and Shadows)

01:04:04
Apologies for the delay in release on this one. We had many technical issues with the episode. We've done our best to edit around them, but you may notice some issues with sound quality, and audio bleed.
PJ, Mat and Eliot join Michael Burnham as she goes back to Vulcan, and everything that happens is very obvious. Plus! Pike and Tyler go on a mission that gets all timey-wimey. Sorry, wrong show.
More technical issues have reared their heads, so while we beaver away trying to get more episodes recorded and edited, our friends over at The Replimat have very kindly offered to let us share with you an episode of their show, in which all three of us turned up to watch an episode of Deep Space Nine. Did chaos ensue? Well, yeah.
Easter weekend was celebrating with a crossover of podcasts when the entire Measure of a Fan Podcast trio, PJ, Mat, and Eliot, joined Andy and Tim at the Replimat to react to, and discuss, the DS9 episode, CROSSOVER.
An Oblique Owl Reference (Discovery - The Sound of Thunder)
28 mai 2025
01:18:44
What's this? An episode of Star Trek that PJ, Mat and Eliot all liked? It's true, dear listener. It has happened. Plus! Mastication.
The Enterprise Framework for Constructive Praise (Discovery - Saints of Imperfection)
21 mai 2025
00:52:55
PJ, Mat and Eliot join Tilly in the mycelial network! There's a monster on the loose, and the mushroom people need her help! But is everything as it seems? Plus! Section 31 suck!
I Think I Just Don't Like Star Trek (Discovery - An Obol for Charon)
07 mai 2025
01:09:32
PJ, Mat and Eliot join the Discovery crew as they encounter a mysterious sphere in deep space while chasing Spock's shuttle. But is it scary enough? Plus! A mystery! Which some are happier about than others.
PJ, Mat and Eliot experience two of their least favourite things: Discovery Klingons, and Section 31. But could they both be a bit more tolerable this time around? Plus! There's a ghost!
The Tromboner (Discovery - New Eden, with Sarah Millman)
23 avr. 2025
01:19:30
Pyjamas, Mat and Eliot welcome Sarah Millman back to the show, for an episode that again divides opinion. We run the gamut from liked it (guess who) to just don't care (guess who). We also get into the topic of magic box storytelling, and whether Discovery is succeeding at it.
PJ, Mat and Eliot begin season two of Discovery! PJ thinks the episode is a mixed bag. Mat and Eliot both think a lot less of it. Count yourselves lucky this episode is only an hour long. We could have talked for a lot longer.
PJ, Mat and Eliot join Tilly as she argues with her mother, then meets an invisible alien. But not a cool one, like the Predator. A rubbish one. Like a Tellytubby. Plus! Mat finds a spine!
A Little Bit of Everything All of the Time (Short Treks - The Escape Artist)
02 avr. 2025
00:29:45
We're back! PJ, Mat and Eliot finally kick off our sixth season with a look at another Short Trek! And we have a mixed response to it. Plus! How did PJ's bath get into his bathroom?
The Eiffel Tower's a Gun (Discovery - Will You Take My Hand?, with Dean Burnett)
23 oct. 2024
01:20:24
We made it! It's the finale of Discovery's first season! And it's.... eh, you know. A bit of a damp squib, to be honest. But don't worry! We created interest by inviting noted author, comedian and neuroscientist, Doctor Dean Burnett on the show! And he agreed, so, anything that happens next is really on him.

Pork Markets (Discovery - The War Without, the War Within)
09 oct. 2024
01:02:04
PJ, Mat and Eliot reach the penultimate episode of Discovery season one! We're rocketing towards the end, and it's.... really dull. Nothing happens. But we weirdly like a couple of scenes. It's a weird episode. But we're nearly done with this season. At last.
This episode was recorded remotely in September 2024
We Get It, You're a Horrid Creep (Discovery - What's Past is Prologue)
02 oct. 2024
00:46:34
PJ, Mat and Eliot finally reach the end of the mirror universe story arc in Discovery's first season! And it's the best episode of the arc yet! Which, you know, was a low bar. But at least there's some fun to be had here.
This episode was recorded remotely in September 2024
Nibbling Saru (Discovery - Vaulting Ambition, with Sarah Millman)
25 sept. 2024
01:23:10
Sarah Millman is back, and joins PJ, Mat and Eliot for the latest episode in Discovery's mirror universe arc! One of our regulars gets angry with the episode. And it isn't Eliot. Well... It is. But someone else gets angry too.
PJ, Mat and Eliot are still stuck in the mirror universe, and aren't happy about it. Stuff happens. We don't care. It's all so tedious. Plus! Mat tells us about his fountain pen.
I Remember When Eliot Was Happy (Discovery - Despite Yourself, with Andy Porwitzky)
11 sept. 2024
01:14:02
Doktor Andy Porwitzky joins us again to watch the episode of Discovery where, and we think this is fair, it really goes off the rails. We're in the mirror universe! For a multi-part story! Will it hold up to scrutiny? Will it #$@!.

I Could Dislike This More (Discovery - Into the Forest I Go)
05 juin 2024
00:55:52
PJ, Mat and Eliot have arrived at Discovery's first mid-season finale! Is this the best episode of Discovery so far? Does it set Discovery up for an interesting end of season? Will Discovery completely mess this up next episode? Join us, and find out!
Fish and Racism (Discovery - Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum)
29 mai 2024
01:13:43
PJ, Mat and Eliot join the Discovery crew for their first away mission to an alien planet! We're thundering towards Discovery's mid-season finale, in this, our fifth season, our one-hundred and seventh episode. What better time to discuss Eliot's expectations of Star Trek?
While we beaver away trying to get more episodes recorded and edited, our friends over at The Replimat have very kindly offered to let us share with you an episode of their show, in which PJ turned up to watch an episode of Deep Space Nine.
Andy Frankham-Allen and Tim Gambrell meander through the entirety of Star Trek Deep Space Nine and Dr Who. For Tim it's his very first time on DS9, and Andy... well, he's been watching it since 1992! They are joined by occasional guests, often known for other podcast or writers from field of sci-fi and fantasy.
Tim and Andy return, this time with special guest, PJ Montgomery from the Measure of the Fan, for episode #32 of Deep Space Nine, Armageddon Game.
Mudd's Log (Discovery - Magic to Make the Sanest Man Go Mad)
24 avr. 2024
00:47:22
PJ, Mat and Eliot get stuck in a time loop. PJ, Mat and Eliot get stuck in a time loop. PJ, Mat and Eliot get stuck in a time loop. PJ, Mat and Eliot get stuck in a time loop. PJ, Mat and Eliot get stuck in a time loop. PJ, Mat and Eliot get stuck in a time loop. PJ, Mat and Eliot get stuck in...

Nobody Wants This (Discovery - Lethe)
17 avr. 2024
00:59:04
Ambassador Sarek is missing! PJ, Mat and Eliot know where he is, but no one else does. Will the crew of the Discovery use their high tech sensors to find him? Or will they find a convoluted way for Michael to psychically enter his head because Star Trek?
While we beaver away trying to get more episodes recorded and edited, our friends over at The Replimat have very kindly offered to let us share with you an episode of their show, in which they made Eliot watch an episode of Deep Space Nine.
Tim and Andy watch episode #28 of Deep Space Nine, Second Sight. This week they are joined by special guest, Eliot Red, one-third of The Measure of a Fan podcast.

We're Overthinking Stuart (Discovery - Choose Your Pain)
PJ, Mat and Eliot join Captain Lorca as he gets taken prisoner by Klingons, and meets a classic Star Trek character, Harcourt Fenton Mudd! Plus! We love the Discovery cast. Especially Wilson Cruz. He's dreamy. Look, we might be crushing slightly on Wilson Cruz. And really, can you blame us?
PJ, Mat and Eliot finally reach the USS Discovery! Although Eliot gets confused and thinks we're on an Enterprise. It's an easy mistake to make. Plus! Actually, that's pretty much it. It's a lot of spaceship chat.
This episode was recorded remotely in January 2024
It's Michelle Yeoh! (Discovery - Battle at the Binary Stars)
31 janv. 2024
00:47:22
PJ, Mat and Eliot find themselves at the start of the war between the Klingons and the Federation! It's a mixed bag. There's some fun stuff, but there's also Klingons who speak so slowly. Plus! Bolognese!
It's our 100th episode! And conveniently, it's also a momentous one, as we watch the very first episode of Star Trek: Discovery! An explosive episode to start a new series of Star Trek. But will Eliot enjoy it?
This episode was recorded remotely in November 2023
They Took the Craft Out of That (Short Treks - The Trouble With Edward)
15 nov. 2023
00:32:48
PJ, Mat and Eliot join Captain Pike's former science officer, Captain Lynne Lucaro, as she takes command of the USS Cabot, and runs into Edward Larkin, and the strange creatures he's experimenting on. Yes, it's our first Tribble episode. It's very silly. Even by our standards.
This episode was recorded remotely in November 2023
A Bee With a Crown on a Stick (Star Trek - The Cage)
08 nov. 2023
01:18:16
It's a momentous occasion. Artist and writer Andy W. Clift rejoins PJ, Mat and Eliot, as we finally reach the first piece of Star Trek ever shot. It's Star Trek's original pilot episode, shot in 1964, The Cage! Is this the most Gene Rodenberry episode of Star Trek ever?
This episode was recorded remotely in September 2023
Many Cheerful Facts About the Square of the Hypotenuse (Short Treks - Q&A)
25 oct. 2023
00:25:35
Spock! Spock's here! For the first time in our podcast, we're meeting Spock! It's Ensign Spock's first day on the Enterprise, so naturally, he gets stuck in a lift with his new first officer. And we get stuck there with them. Plus, Mat eats a lettuce.
This episode was recorded remotely in September 2023
Spocks All the Way Down (Short Treks - The Brightest Star)
18 oct. 2023
00:21:48
PJ, Mat and Eliot meet Saru, as he decides that his backwards planet and his people's attitude to sacrificing themselves might be a bad thing. But it turns out, Eliot doesn't really like short films. So, we're onto a winner with the Short Treks.
This episode was recorded remotely in September 2023
The Genius of the Star Trek Ship (Short Treks - The Girl Who Made the Stars, with Dani Abram)
11 oct. 2023
00:45:33
We're back! And it's a new dawn as we leave Enterprise behind to take a look at our first Short Trek, and our first piece of animated Star Trek! And since it's an animated episode, we brought in a very special guest, animator Dani Abram! She's actually worked on animated Star.... Um... Wars. But that's good enough for us!
PJ, Mat and Eliot finally reach the end of the Enterprise leg of their Trek journey (for now). Mat tries to dig up dirt on Robocop. Any Robocop. Eliot's just done with the whole thing. PJ's trying to keep it together, but we're all very tired.

09 aoƻt 2023
00:56:25
PJ, Mat and Eliot reach their penultimate episode of Enterprise (for now). Robocop turns up, and he's a massive racist with a convoluted plan involving a baby and a space gun. Plus! Admiral Leather Ducky, and Mat can't spell Robocop!

Planet of the 80 Foot Turds (Enterprise - Bound, with Stacey from Stacey's Pop Culture Parlour)
26 juil. 2023
00:57:59
Enterprise promises dragons. It does not deliver on the dragons. Instead, we get to watch one of the worst episodes of Enterprise yet. It may have actually broken Eliot. And we owe our guest, Stace, an apology. In fact, if you listen to this episode, we owe you an apology. We're so sorry.

Furious Baby (Enterprise - Divergence, with Kris Carter)
12 juil. 2023
01:15:38
Kris Carter rejoins PJ, Mat and Eliot for the second half of the storyline that was created purely to explain why Klingons had smooth foreheads in the original series. Despite that flimsy premise, we manage to have some fun, as we take Eliot through the racist window.

28 juin 2023
01:01:44
PJ, Mat and Eliot find themselves watching an episode of Enterprise that was produced specifically to explain a make up change that didn't need explaining. Yes, Eliot has now found out that there were Klingons with smooth foreheads. Plus! Are the crew of the Columbia in a cult?
Find Safe Space and Endangered Species, featuring PJ, Mat and Eliot, on Vince Hunt's YouTube Channel
This episode was recorded remotely in May 2023.
I'm A Shrimp Man (Enterprise - The Aenar)
14 juin 2023
00:57:49
PJ, Mat and Eliot watch the third and final part of the Romulan / Andorian / Tellarite / Vulcan storyline. But it's mostly Andorian now. It's a weird third act. Plus! Romulan character development and Guylian chocolates! Wherever you get your podcasts.
This is Why Other Podcasts Don't Like Us (Enterprise - United)
31 mai 2023
01:12:34
Eliot continues his mission to make other people dislike Star Trek as much as he does. PJ and Mat can only watch. This whole podcast experiment has backfired terribly. Also, in Star Trek, Archer starts cutting bits off people, Travis gets something to do, and there's a Romulan named Nigel. It's spelled Nijil. But he's Nigel.
PJ, Mat and Eliot attempt to discuss Babel One, but get distracted by helicopters and the Police. And the Police again. It's the level of professionalism you've all come to accept from us.
Injected With Rocks (Enterprise - Observer Effect)
03 mai 2023
00:52:47
PJ, Mat and Eliot observe and episode of Enterprise, in which alien observers observe the Enterprise crew when two of them get rocks in their blood, or something. To be honest, two thirds of the presenters are starting to lose the will to live. But at least Travis finally gets something to do. Well, sort of.
A Space Kissing Adventure (Enterprise - Kir'Shara, with Sarah Millman)
19 avr. 2023
01:11:40
Sarah Millman returns to the podcast, for the first episode we recorded after our unexpected hiatus! We watch the third part of the Vulcan Kir'Shara trilogy, PJ starts writing his prog rock epic, Mat forgets which show we're watching and Eliot would literally rather be doing anything else.
Our Belated Second Birthday Episode (Enterprise - Awakening)
12 avr. 2023
00:44:51
PJ, Mat and Eliot are back, after their surprise enforced hiatus. Sorry about that folks. It means we're celebrating our second birthday, two months late, by looking at Awakening! More Vulcan shenanigans are underway, as T'Pau and the Syrrannites have captured Archer and T'Pol, and Soval is now the Enterprise's science office, for some reason? We're back, with that same half-arsed show you all know and tolerate.
Baz Greenland returns to the podcast, to join PJ, Mat and Eliot as they embark on the big Vulcan storyline for Enterprise's fourth season. An attack on the Earth embassy on Vulcan leads to tragedy, a conspiracy is uncovered, and there are mind melds all over the place. Plus! How far can you push your dreams?
PJ, Mat and Eliot watch the final part of the Augments trilogy, as Doctor Soong's children try to ignite a war between Earth and the Klingon Empire. Can Captain Archer stop them? And does Eliot care? Spoiler: He does not. Plus! Can anyone put Mat in contact with Jake Johnson? He has ideas.
PJ, Mat and Eliot join the Enterprise crew as they try to track down Doctor Soong and his augment children! They ask the question, if an augment child isn't augmented in any way, is he an augment, or is he just a bloke? Plus! Phlox's pen pal appears! In person!
PJ, Mat and Eliot are very happy to see special guest star Brent Spiner show up on Enterprise, as Doctor Arik Soong! And we're getting a story that ties into the Eugenics War and Khan! Is Enterprise finally becoming the prequel series it maybe should've been all along? Plus! Who want an Ensign Jeffrey spin-off?
This episode was recorded remotely in January 2023
Tugboats Have Captains (Enterprise - Home, with Andy Porwitzky)
25 janv. 2023
01:03:50
Doctor Andy Porwitzky joins PJ, Mat and Eliot again to watch Home, the episode which sets up the rest of season 4. Archer climbs a mountain, Trip meets T'Pol's mother, and Phlox is on the receiving end of some xenophobia. Plus! Learn about the time Mat was put in charge of an actual ship. Sort of.
This episode was recorded remotely in December 2022
The Hannibal That Built the Death Star (Enterprise - Storm Front, part II)
18 janv. 2023
00:56:27
PJ, Mat and Eliot watch the thrilling conclusion to Storm Front, the two-parter which opens Enterprise's fourth season! Archer has to team up with one of his campest enemies to stop the nazi aliens from altering the timeline. Plus, where would we work if we travelled to the distant future?
