Alison Isadora: Diffractive Readings06 Sep 202600:50:18

Hey! I'd love to hear your thoughts, send me a voice note.

Alison Isadora (with Anne La Berge & Yannis Kyriakides)

https://alisonisadora.org/

Alison Isadora is an Aotearoa / New Zealand-born artist who has made Amsterdam her home since the late 1980s. She is a "composer/performer/educator/curator/host/producer/guide," and her pieces treat musicians, audiences, spaces, and even scores as equal partners in creating music together.

Her ongoing Together series, running since 2018, is built on indeterminate scores, community participation and reflects deeper concerns: ecology, decolonial perspectives on Western art music, and what it means to really listen together.

In 2024, Alison created the work Diffractive Readings for MAZE, inspired by the extended hermeneutics practice of Jennifer Lacey, and based on different so-called readings of Wind Horse by Pauline Oliveros.

She was also a member and composer of The Maarten Altena Ensemble that was the ensemble that MAZE grew out of.

The music at the end of the episode is Part 6 by Alison Isadora performed by the Maarten Altena Ensemble.
