Democrats on the House Oversight Committee are asking Trump about a suspicious 10-million dollar campaign donation during his last run for the White House. Whether Trump illegally accepted millions from the Egyptian government is also the subject of a secret Justice Department investigation. We welcome presidential historian and political analyst John Rothmann to the show to discuss.

The second day of the Democratic National Convention was a complete party. The celebration carried on through the ceremonial roll-call (where Governor Gavin Newsom cast California’s delegate votes) onto the screen where Vice President Harris and Minnesota Governor Walz, standing before a massive crowd at a Wisconsin rally, were beamed into the DNC via satellite. Both Barack and Michelle Obama were inspirational and masterful with their words. The dynamic speakers kept coming with Senators Bernie Sanders and Tammy Duckworth and First Gentleman Doug Emhoff. Messages of hard work, getting things done and reproductive freedom were highlighted. During roll-call, Kate Cox - the mom who had to leave the state of Texas in order to get an abortion that was threatening her life - announced that she is once again pregnant, thanks to reproductive care she received elsewhere. Her public journey through new Trump era abortion laws elevated the issue along with Michelle Obama and Senator Duckworth talking about using IVF to have children. Mo Kelly, Political Analyst and KFI Radio host will come by to talk politics. We’ll check in on the environment with, “ It’s the Planet, Stupid!”

Trump’s drum beat for war with Iran is a chilling reminder of a Trump foreign policy that was chaotic and filled with escalating tensions. This as President Biden urges restraint in an effort to prevent a wider escalation of the conflict.
Will President Biden be on the ballot in Ohio and Alabama?  Republicans will make the call. The GOP argument for keeping Trump on the ballot in states trying to use the insurrection clause was that voters should decide. They may not give voters the same respect when it comes to a Democratic candidate.

Former President Donald Trump successfully appealed to a higher court to reduce his bond requirement, securing a favorable ruling in his legal battle. The appeal court's decision effectively lowered the financial guarantee Trump needed to post, a significant development in the ongoing legal challenges he faces. This outcome marks a strategic win for Trump's legal team, potentially alleviating some financial strain and bolstering his defense in the broader legal proceedings.
NBC’s Chuck Todd let the network have it for hiring former RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel as a commentator. Todd threw down criticism of his employer saying, “I think our bosses owe you an apology for putting you in this situation,” and of McDaniel, “She is now a paid contributor by NBC News and I have no idea whether any answer she gave to you was because she didn’t want to mess up her contract. … she has credibility issues that she still has to deal with.” The post show meeting must have been super fun.

Even though Trump's social media company Truth Social completed a merger today with a wealthy shell company, it won't make a difference where his bond in the New York Civil fraud case is concerned. Shareholders of Digital World Acquisition Corporation approved the merger with Trump Media & Technology Group, and just in the nick of time. The company is nearly out of cash and the merger means more than $300 million will pour into Trump Media. Trump can't tap into it through. He is prohibited from selling any of his shares or using them as collateral for a loan for the next six months. It looks like Trump has his hand out to the Republican National Committee. Even though the RNC previously said they would not be paying Donald Trump’s legal bills, an invitation to a fundraiser tells the real story. The event in Palm Beach, Florida next month indicates the Save America committee, which Trump uses to collect money for legal fees, will be a recipient of RNC donor money. In case you want to go, it’s between $250k and $815k per person. Some political analysts think Trump needs to be careful not to alienate moderate swing voters. Given his recent comments about Jewish voters and immigrants, it seems he’s not too concerned about offending voters who could sway the election. Former Trump adviser Peter Navarro is denied more time before he has to report to the slammer. He was trying to delay the start of his 4-month long prison sentence for ignoring a subpoena from the House committee investigating the insurrection. Navarro is appealing convictions on two counts of contempt of Congress citing executive privilege. US Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts flatly rejected Navarro’s claim. 
One of the lawyers trying to overturn the 2020 election is now under arrest. Stefanie Lambert, who had a warrant out for her arrest related to a separate case in Michigan where she’s accused of trying to steal voting machines, was arrested in a DC courtroom after a hearing about her recent leaking of internal Dominion Voting Systems emails.

Former President Donald Trump is facing "insurmountable difficulties" in obtaining a bond to satisfy the $464 million civil fraud judgment, his attorneys said Monday in a new appellate court filing, and the magnitude of which would require him to use real estate as collateral.
Judge Arthur Engoron in February ordered Trump to pay $464 million in disgorgement and interest after holding him liable for doing a decade's worth of business with fraudulent financial statements that overvalued his real estate holdings and hyped his wealth. Trump was also barred from leading any New York company for three years. His sons Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump were also fined $4 million apiece and barred for two years.
"Defendants have faced what have proven to be insurmountable difficulties in obtaining an appeal bond for the full $464 million," according to an affirmation by Trump Organization general counsel Alan Garten.
While his lawyer said Trump is "financially stable" and maintains "substantial assets," the magnitude of the judgment would require him to use his real estate as collateral for the bond. So far, according to Garten's affirmation, no surety bond provider approached by Trump is willing to accept real estate as collateral, including Chubb, the insurance giant underwriting Trump's $91.6 million bond to cover the $83 million judgment in the E. Jean Carroll defamation case, plus interest.
Surprise, Surprise! Putin Wins Another Russian “Election” 
That Vladimir Putin won his “election” is not a shocker. Exit polls show he came away with 88% of the vote. That it wasn’t 100% is the surprise. 
The “win” gives Putin six more years in power at a time when his invasion of Ukraine has the world fearing what he’ll do next. 
Trump gave a whopper of a campaign speech over the weekend. He warned of “bloodshed” if he doesn’t win in November.  He also said the January 6th Committee should be jailed and that some undocumented immigrants aren’t people. It seems he’s doubling down on the hate and revenge.

It seems Mitch McConnell supports judge shopping. The Judicial Conference of the United States has a new rule that if a case seeks a national injunction to reverse or block a federal government policy, the judge has to be randomly assigned within the district court where the case was filed. McConnell calls the rule an unforced error by the Judicial Conference that will do Washington Democrats’ bidding. He want's them to reconsider.
Trump's judge slaps him down on dropping espionage charges. US District Court Judge Aileen Cannon was asked by Trump's lawyers to toss out the classified documents case against him. In one motion, they argued the charges against him were too vague.  She disagreed.  She has yet to rule on a second motion that the Presidential Records Act requires the case to be dismissed.

A Trump takeover of the Republican National Committee means as many as 60 staff members are now laid off. The new Trump backed leadership did a staff evaluation to verify everyone at the RNC is aligned with his vision of how to win in November. Amid a backdrop of grocery store items, Donald Trump gave a press conference at his Bedminster, New Jersey property yesterday. He stayed on script for a little while regarding the economy, but the conversation devolved into personal attacks against Vice President Kamala Harris. Trump started remembering previous elections. At times, he seemed like an old man reliving his glory days. He had a lot to say about Hillary Clinton, about the justice system, and about all the great deals that he’s made with other countries.  It was more of the same weird rambling that critics in his own party are telling him to stop.

For now, Donald Trump gets his delay from the Supreme Court…but the immunity question may not go his way. Analysis from former federal prosecutor David Katz. California’s primary election is just days away. The Republican candidate vying to represent Californians in the U.S. Senate will stop by The Mark Thompson Show. Steve Garvey says he is looking to bring stability to a "dysfunctional Washington” so we’ll ask him what he thinks is broken and his ideas for making repairs. Both victors in their Michigan primaries, President Biden and former President Trump also got handed messages. For President Biden, it’s the realization that progressives, young voters and Arab American Democrats are not happy. They took part in a movement to cast “uncommitted” protest votes. They are telling the President they will withhold support unless he changes his handling of the Israel’-Hamos conflict. Trump’s win came with another showing from a significant number of Republicans who voted against him. It doesn’t inspire confidence in a swing state that went for President Biden in 2020. Political analyst and presidential historian John Rothmann will be in to discuss it al. Actor and author Ed Begley, Jr. will stop by to discuss his book “ To the Temple of Tranquility... And Step On It!, it’s a memoir full of good humor and incredible stories about family, friends, addiction, failure, and redemption.

Trump is bleeding cash. He finally paid The New York Times $392k in legal fees. He was ordered to pay up after his failed lawsuit over the public sharing of his tax documents. Trump is also appealing his $454 million New York civil fraud judgment. He wants an appeals court to reverse the massive penalties that could clean out his cash reserves.
French President Emmanuel Macron wants his fellow European leaders to take action when it comes to helping Ukraine fight against Russia, rather than waiting for US aid. Macron won’t rule out sending ground troops to Ukraine, though he said no consensus has been reached on such a move yet.
Pulitzer Prize winning author and journalist David Cay Johnston will be on the show. We’ll ask him what he makes of all this.

Donald Trump came away with more than a win in the South Carolina Republican presidential primary; he also came away with a big question mark. Some polls had Trump up by more than 35 points but he only ended up beating Nikki Haley by 20 points. Yes, she lost in her home state, but she also took about 40% of the vote. One analyst says it indicates that primary voters don’t like Trump.
More fallout after the South Carolina primary:
The money tree is drying up for Nikki Haley. The network associated with billionaire Charles Koch won’t be putting its cash toward Haley and will instead focus on key Senate and House races where they say they may have more of an impact.

At a last minute press conference Tuesday, Haley said, “ I refuse to quit,” She also spoke directly about Trump, “many of the same politicians who now publicly embrace Trump, privately dread him. They know what a disaster he’s been and will continue to be for our party. They’re just too afraid to say it out loud. Well, I’m not afraid to say the hard truth out loud. I feel no need to kiss the ring. I have no fear of Trump’s retribution.” We will ask presidential historian, political analyst and former KGO talk show host John Rothmann about this and more. Kim is still at the beach, so today, Teresa Strasser joins the Thompson team in the news anchor seat.

On the heels of former Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley sending a message to Donald Trump via Fox News to stop silly attacks that voters don’t care about and focus on the issues, Trump almost succeeded. At a campaign stop in North Carolina yesterday, it seemed he was trying to focus on the economy. He couldn’t quite stop himself from going off on weird rants laced with anger, sexist insults and outright lies, but between all of that, he seemed to have hit on a strategy that could resonate with people who were losing faith in Trump’s campaign. 
Trump keeps trying to get rid of the judge in his hush money case, to no avail. For the third time, 
Judge Juan Merchan says he will not recuse himself.  Trump is set to debate Vice President Kamala Harris on September 10th. On September 16th, Judge Merchan plans to rule on whether Trump's immunity challenge applies to the hush money case before sentencing on the 18th. 
Former federal prosecutor and now defense attorney, David Katz will join us to offer his thoughts on what is sure to be a busy September for Trump.
