517. Feed Your Courage Wolf20 May 202501:09:07

Today on the Unbeatable Mind, Mark Divine is diving deep into the first of the seven commitments necessary to forge elite teams—--courage. Mark, drawing from his Navy SEAL background, breaks down the foundational importance of courage—--and why it serves as a crucial gateway to the higher energies of growth, acceptance, and love.

Mark reveals how courage is not just about charging forward, but rather about the willingness to face our deepest fears, embrace risk, and refuse to stay in our comfort zone. He provides actionable strategies for cultivating courage, like practicing the art of letting go, or simulating challenging scenarios through what he calls “reality-based training”.

Mark candidly reflects on the ongoing struggle with ego, vulnerability, and the power of forgiveness. Delving into the importance of aligning one’s daily actions with their greater purpose and principles, Mark highlights how leading yourself and others through adversity sometimes means walking away from old environments and relationships.

Key Takeaways:

  • Training For Risk: Learn how embracing risk means preparing for it—-facing your fears and building competence.

  • Living By Your Personal Ethos: Realize how true transformation comes from aligning your actions with your deepest values—-even when it’s hard.

  • Courage as Inaction: Note that courage can be subtle—as much as it’s about action, many times it’s about restraint—-having the wherewithal NOT to speak or react to a situation.

  • The Importance of Self-Reflection: Discover that in order to live by your personal ethos, you must UNDERSTAND what your personal ethos is. Doing so requires reflection on what you value, and what you won’t compromise on.

Mark Divine is a former Navy SEAL Commander, entrepreneur, and NYT Bestselling author with PhD in Global Leadership and Change who has dedicated his life to unlocking human potential through integrated training in mental toughness, leadership, and physical readiness. Mark's journey began in New York City, where his fascination with eastern philosophy and martial arts set the stage for a transformative path. After a successful stint as a consultant at PriceWaterhouse Coopers, he made the pivotal decision to join the Navy SEALs at 25. Over two decades of service, Mark commanded critical missions globally, retiring as a Commander in 2011. Mark has trained elite organizations including Google, Nike, SpaceX, Boeing, Harvard University, The Olympics, YPO, and many others.Co-founding ventures such as SEALFIT, Unbeatable Mind, LLC, and Coronado Brewing Company have allowed Mark to blend his military expertise with entrepreneurial spirit. SEALFIT, born from his SEAL training insights, revolutionized physical and mental conditioning, impacting diverse groups from executives to athletes.Inspired by his military service, Mark founded the Courage Foundation to support veterans in holistic healing and restoration of purpose. Advocating for mental resilience and compassionate leadership, he aims to impact 100 million lives, fostering a more connected and courageous world.

Technology, Demographics, and Economics(with Mauro Guillén)30 Aug 202300:36:33

People need to shift into a new mindset when it comes to the ideas of career, education, and retirement. The model that society has been operating from is becoming obsolete.

Vice Dean at the Wharton, Mauro Guillén (@LinkedIn), and best-selling author’s work encourages us to look at our lives. His new book, The Perennials: The Megatrends Creating a Post-Generational Society, invites people to rethink the timeline and attitude toward careers, family, and future plans. Mauro is an expert in global market trends and is highly sought after as a speaker and consultant.

Mauro Guillén (@LinkedIn) is one of the Wall Street Journal's best-selling authors. His book 2030: How Today's Biggest Trends Will Collide and Reshape the Future of Everything is considered groundbreaking for the fields of futurism and economics. He promotes original thinking as the Vice Dean at Wharton Business School. He's won multiple teaching awards and has recently released a new book, The Perennials: The Megatrends Creating a Post-Generational Society, which is an invitation for people to rethink the timeline and attitude toward careers, family, and future plans.

“I think many of the problems that we're encountering right now have to do with the fact that we have been organizing our lives in the wrong way. ”

- Mauro Guillén

Key Takeaways:

  • Futurism and Mindset Change: We need to change our mindset as things are shifting fast in all areas of human life. The economy and our technological advances are requiring us to be flexible. We cannot continue to live our lives according to the old ways. We need to change the way we run ourselves and or our lives. The only possible response to change is change itself. If people remain static while our environment changes, we will quickly be out of whack.

  • Flexibility in Life's Timeline: Communities need to address the groups of disadvantaged people, such as but not limited to women, high school dropouts, teenage mothers, and people who went through the foster care system. The current evolution of how we develop in life doesn't fit or help these groups. The main reason is that they need more time than the average trajectory of growing up, attending college, and getting a job. Also, they need more flexibility to adjust to do well in life. We need our leaders to lead on this proactively and functionally.

  •  Staying Relevant: Everyone and anyone who wants to contribute to society in the next 20-30 years needs to learn about all the new technologies, not so much in terms of how they work, but more in terms of what the implications of those technologies for all the different functional areas within our organizational structures. For example, AI has changed finance, education, and marketing. We must ask how these changes affect the organization and how we interact as human beings.

  • Learn Social Skills: Technical skills are essential. However, increasingly, AI will be able to handle many tasks/jobs that humans currently do. What is harder to learn and becoming increasingly more critical are strong social skills. What is your capacity to work in teams, engage in negotiations, your emotional intelligence, and your overall ability to communicate? The current research data indicates that these social skills are becoming crucial in the American and other labor markets worldwide.

Psychedelics and Religion (with Mathew Weintrub)22 Aug 202300:49:48

You don't fight evil with evil, and you don't fight power or force with force. You draw attention away from the darkness by ignoring it and doing what's right.

This passionate author and activist, Matthew Weintrub (@heytrub), is about healing Mother Earth and the human family. As a psychedelic medicine activist and author of The Psychedelic Origin of Religion, he is a driving force in the modern psychedelic movement. Matthew has helped many people find healing and transformation. He continues to inspire others through his writing, collaborations, and presence.

Hayulima is a psychedelic sanctuary for the people. Matthew Weintrub (@heytrub) invites you to visit for healing and transformation. As an author of The Psychedelic Origin of Religion, Matthew is one of the pioneers of the modern psychedelic movement. His passion is to heal America by asking that everyone have the right to practice their religion freely and without consequence.

“We need to restore the right to heal with God's natural medicines, the psychedelic plant medicines. And I believe when we do that, we will put this country back on a path to salvation. ” - Matt Weintrub

Key Takeaways:

  • Domination Government: We have reached a point where our US government is no longer honoring the right to practice religion freely. We, the people, need to uphold the US Constitution for all people. Citizens need to wake up and see that they are being distracted and misinformed. And each day, freedoms are being stripped away. It is easy to take away a right/freedom but harder to get it back.

  • Imagine: “Imagine all the people living for today.” A prolific writer and artist John Lennon offered one of the best prayers for the world. This song is an excellent meditation on the possibility of everyone coming together to heal and unite. Imagine: By John Lennon

  • Appropriation of Plant Medicine: As psychedelics become more mainstream in the Western world, it is crucial to be aware of the colonialistic mind and how it commandeers things as its own when indigenous cultures have been practicing and using the medicines for years. It is important to build alliances with chiefs from indigenous nations to respect the lineages.

  • The Herd of One: In many indigenous cultures, there is the mentality of what someone does to their neighbor, they do to themself. This way of life applies to healing oneself as well. The perspective is that in a healing circle, or ceremony, the individual (the herd of one) is everyone (the herd of all). Indigenous cultures believe that we heal together and make the whole world better by healing ourselves.

Deliberate and Aware (with Aaron De Smet)15 Aug 202300:45:37

Being out of control of something we want to control and fix is a recipe for disaster. When we try to control things, we often react in ways that are ultimately not helpful and can be self-destructive.

Much of Aaron De Smet’s(@AaronDeSmet) work focuses on helping large distributed organizations to achieve growth, innovation, productivity, and organizational agility. Aaron co-authored Deliberate Calm: How to Learn and Lead in a Volatile World. He has been consulting for many years at McKinsey and in prior years at PricewaterhouseCoopers. He is also an expert on organizational design, corporate culture, and leadership development.

Aaron De Smet(@AaronDeSmet) counsels leadership teams as they transform their organizations to improve performance, organizational health, speed, and agility. He holds a P.H.D. from Columbia University, where he studied organizational psychology and business. His expertise spans several industries, including agriculture, biotechnology, chemicals, and transformational change.

“The world has become so interconnected that one small thing somewhere can have surprising effects in ways we hadn't imagined”

- Aaron De Smet

Key Takeaways:

  • Self Awareness in Leadership: Self-awareness is a positive attribute regardless of where you are. Professionally it elevates your ability to be present and problem-solve in VUCA environments. There is always complexity when working with other people. On a team, self-awareness always helps, no matter how cognitively taxing it might be.

  • Defining Self-Awareness: When experts talk about self-awareness, they don’t just mean the metacognition of personal understanding of what we are thinking and how we think about it. They emphasize that we need to understand that there might be potentially subconscious emotions that are sitting there that are guiding or biasing us. These unconscious drivers can actually be brought into awareness. When we merge the conscious and surface the unconscious, we are more fully self-aware and self-knowledgeable.

  • Changes in the Workplace: Even pre-pandemic, the desire for more flexibility regarding when and where one works was on the rise. The reasoning for “going into an office” has changed. The files, phones, and meeting place no longer have to be in one location. Also, what people see as desirable for a career in these next generations, Gen Z and beyond, has shifted.

  • Triggers of Grief: Grief doesn’t happen only when we lose a loved one. Grieving is a process everybody goes through psychologically whenever they feel a sense of loss of something loved or cherished. This loss could be a loved one, a pet, an experience, or even a favorite restaurant closing that there was a felt emotional connection to, and the place was loved and cherished. So grief can be the loss of any loved or cherished thing.

Happiness is Good (with Dr. Robert Waldinger)01 Aug 202300:44:04

Nonstop happiness doesn't exist for any human being on the planet.

Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School Dr. Robert Waldinger (@Dr.Waldinger) believes in nurturing relationships for overall health. Dr. Waldinger co-founded the Lifespan Research Foundation and is a practicing psychiatrist and Zen master or Roshi. His book, The Good Life: Lessons From the World's Longest Scientific Study on Happiness, is an excellent look at what keeps us all happy, healthy, and thriving.

Author and Professor Dr. Robert Waldinger's (@Dr. Waldinger) book, The Good Life: Lessons From the World's Longest Scientific Study on Happiness, is a must-read. The study started in 1938 and continues to this day. Dr. Waldinger is a Zen Roshi, practicing psychiatrist, researcher, and professor. He understands that happiness isn't attainable every day. However, he encourages us to be proactive to live an extraordinary life with as much of it as possible.

“All it is is the stuff we do every day, if we give it our full attention, everything pops with an aliveness that normally we miss.”

- Dr. Robert Waldinger

Key Takeaways:

  • Personality vs. Ego:  Ego is different than personality. The ego is the identification with our sense of self. At the same time, everyone has the conditioning of a personality. When you start moving away from being identified with self and living from the witness, you can bring source spirit into your personality. We want to have a personality, just not be overidentified or attached to it, as that is the ego.

  • Meditation Has Differnt Forms: Sitting meditation is only suitable for some. Some people find it aversive to meditate. However, we can all benefit from a practice that makes us come into presence. For some people, breathing, martial arts, or anything they're very present at is a form of meditation. Whatever brings you into presence, whatever gets you out of the thought loops that we're constantly caught up in, and helps you keep coming back to presence is meditation.

  • The Happiness Project’s Greatest Finding: Taking care of our health matters. Your happiness, health, and how long you live are correlated. The Happiness Project found that one of the most powerful predictors of who does well throughout life is connected to taking care of the physical body. The other significant finding is having loving, warm, and connected relationships impacts your health positively. People in healthy and happy relationships live longer. And, it stands to reason if you have good relationships, you'll be happier.

  • Social Fitness: Social fitness is like physical fitness. It is a constant act of effort and showing up. Studies have shown that perfectly good friendships and family relationships will atrophy, just like muscles, from inattention from neglect. Amall efforts over and over again, like doing 15 minutes of walking or weight training regularly, keep those connections vibrant and alive. It helps to work on relationships like physical fitness to keep them strong and healthy.

Distractions Begin Within (with Nir Eyal)25 Jul 202300:43:27

Be inspired, and don't measure your success by how many boxes get checked off on a to-do list. Stop making to-do lists and start mapping out your day with how much time you will spend on each task you are committed to doing.

Technology is a tool that can help build healthy and lasting habits, according to author and consultant Nir Eyal (@NirEyal). Nir’s groundbreaking book Hooked is a guide to building products people use because they want to, not because they have to. In his new book Indistractable, Nir teaches from the intersection of psychology, technology, and business to lead us to what is possible if we follow through on our best intentions, stay focused, and overcome distractions.

Nir Eyal (@Nir Eyal) writes, consults, and teaches about the intersection of psychology, technology, and business. A Graduate of Stanford School of Business and crusader for utilizing technology to build unique and healthy habits, Nir has written two books, Hooked and Indistratable. Both books are rooted in research and passion for the betterment of humanity. Nir lives in Singapore with his wife and daughter.

“Just because it's a work-related task, doesn't mean it's not a distraction.”

- Nir Eyal

Key Takeaways:

  • Real Distractions Begin Within: We tend to blame our phones, computers, kids, boss, and all external things like that. But studies find that external distractions are only 10% of what pulls us away from our focused tasks. The other 90% of our distractions are internal triggers. For example, if you overeat, often it is the internal distraction of a feeling—feelings like loneliness, boredom, shame, etc. Distractions begin from within.

  • Addiction vs. Habit: Addiction is defined as a persistent compulsive dependency on a behavior or substance that harms the user. There is no such thing as a good addiction. By definition, addictions are destructive. Habits are defined as a settled or regular tendency or practice. We want good habits in our life. We all have good habits or bad habits.

  • All Products are Used to Modulate Mood: Apps and other products we use are designed to activate our internal triggers. Internal triggers are born from an uncomfortable emotional state we seek to escape. Boredom, loneliness, fatigue, desire, curiosity, and uncertainty is what habit-forming products attach themselves to. Whenever you feel an emotion, you become internally activated to use a product such as an app, device, or item. Find products that empower you to build healthy habits and live a good life.

  • Traction and Distraction: What do traction and distraction mean? The opposite word to distraction is traction. Traction and distraction both come from the same Latin root, traho, which means to pull. Traction, by definition, is any action that pulls you toward what you said you would do—the opposite of traction is distraction. Distraction is any action that pulls you away from what you plan to do, from your values and goals, and from becoming the person you want to become. The difference between what is traction and distraction is to decide in advance how we want to spend our time.

Awakening Human Consciousness (with Lion Goodman)18 Jul 202300:41:31

A lot of our beliefs have been given to us by our parents, because of their circumstances and their beliefs and their philosophy of life and their culture.

A subconscious pattern detective, belief therapist, healer of the psyche, Lion Goodman (@LionGoodman) has been known and sought after because he evokes the best in others.

He is the founder and CEO of the Clear Beliefs Institute, a company dedicated to awakening, healing, and enlightening humanity so we can get on with the job of being fully human. As a coach and author Lion is working in collaboration to create a world that works for everyone to create a sustainable and thriving planetary civilization.

Lion Goodman (@LionGoodman) survived being shot 4 times in the head and came out from the experience with a deep understanding of human consciousness. He is the author of five books. His book, Clear Your Beliefs, is a guide and manual for how to uncover your subconscious drivers and step into a new system of conscious understanding.

“My favorite saying that I've heard is things are getting better and better, and worse and worse, in more and more places faster and faster.”

- Lion Goodman

Key Takeaways:

  • Multidimensional Existence:  We are multidimensional beings. In this moment, you are seeing, hearing, feeling, and touching in your body and in your experience. We are constantly looking through this technology of senses and perception. This technology allows us to connect. We are physical, emotional, mental, spiritual, relational, and energetic beings; we have all these things going on simultaneously.

  • Pattern Recognition:  We start forming before we have language. A baby in the womb can recognize the difference between the mother's and father's voices. And it's the pattern recognition system that begins to build a self. We start to develop the identity of this is who I am, what I do, and how I respond to people. Beliefs are all of the patterns that have been set from when we were in the womb. We can recognize these subconscious patterns, bring them to the surface, and change our operating systems.

  • Try on Beliefs: Your beliefs create your experience. If we can realize this, we can begin to try on views and see how they feel, just like you would try on different outfits. You can also try on other people's beliefs, which can help you create empathy. Beliefs that don't serve you can be put down, and you can create new and empowering ones.

  • Historical and Present Perception: Historically, belonging and figuring out how to exist in the social system was crucial for survival. A driving instinct 16,000 years ago was, how do I be in this environment and make it safe? These ideas of looking around, seeing the problems, and then solving them were crucial to our development as humans. In today's world, humans are still doing this. It is baked into our humanity to see where the problems are and then to solve them.

The DNA of The Organization (with Matt Mayberry)11 Jul 202300:48:16

Culture is at its core behavior at scale. You want people who behave the same way whether the CEO is in the room or not.

Former NFL player, International speaker, author, and expert in leadership development, Matt Mayberry (@Matt Mayberry) utilizes his professional athletic experience to inform how culture change can impact organizational performance. His new book, Culture is The Way is a hands-on blueprint for leaders to elevate employee engagement and breed a culture for peak productivity.

After recovering from drug addiction and losing his lifelong dream of being a professional baseball player, Matt Mayberry (@Matt Mayberry) turned his life into gold. He found his way to the NFL with the help of loving parents, wonderful mentors, and a positive mindset. Only getting to play one game due to a permanent injury, Matt once again turned lemons into lemonade and has become a sought-after educator, speaker, and consultant on business culture and team productivity.

“In order to fully impact another life, you first have to impact your life and become a lifelong learner.”

- Matt Mayberry

Key Takeaways:

  • Your 5 Closest Friends:  Motivational speaker Jim Rohn is known in many circles for saying, “Show me your friends, and I’ll show you your future.” Although this may seem cliche many times, there is truth and weight to that statement. If you are in a place in life where you want to make positive changes, pay attention to the people around you and how it is taking away from or assisting you in your future vision.

  • Vulnerability: Vulnerability from a parent, mentor, teacher, or friend can ignite compassion and understanding within ourselves. More and more research shows that leaders succeed more with employee retention and productivity when they show up authentic and vulnerable.

  • Perception: There are more than two perspectives in any given situation. Staying curious and appreciating the different points of view that each of us brings into environments allows the development of organizations and the individuals on the team to innovate and create multifaceted offerings. Perception change for hiring, culture at work, and communication is worth entertaining if you feel stuck as a leader.

  • Make Opinions Matter: Creating a trusting environment for a strong team of employees builds trust when people know that they have a voice and that it counts. The leaders that understand the significance of that and operate with a deeper purpose to what they do in the business world, and a sense in the market, are beginning to understand that we're not just in business to use employees to build the company. They are in business also to develop their people.

Culture and Experiential Learning (with Dr. Soren Kaplan)04 Jul 202300:42:20

Rapid learning is important, and seeing that there is no such thing as failure. That doesn’t mean you don’t fail. It just means you see failure as an opportunity to learn.

Culture is a buzzword many of us don’t know how to define. Award-winning and best-selling author Dr. Soren Kaplan(@Dr.SorenKaplan) has made it one of his missions to educate individuals and companies on how to be a high-level cooperative culture. Dr. Kaplan is a columnist for Inc Magazine and an affiliate at The Center for Effective Organizations at USC’s Marshall School of Business. He's led strategy and innovation at HP, Hewlett Packard. And advises and delivers leadership programs to thousands of executives around the world.

Best-selling author of the groundbreaking book Experiential Intelligence Dr. Soren Kaplan (@Dr.SorenKaplan) has found that everyone has dormant gifts that can be utilized in the workplace. Soren’s work has appeared in Harvard Business Review, Forbes, Fast Company, CNBC, NPR, Strategy & Leadership, The International Handbook on Innovation, and many other academic and popular business media. At the age of 13, he won the first-ever video game contest on the Commodore 64 computer.

“ Create mentoring opportunities, create an innovation team. You don't want just the season people on it. You want the young, new, you know, kind of up-and-comers in it. And that diversity of age as well and experience is also important.”

- Dr. Soren Kaplan

Key Takeaways:

  • Cross-Generational Mentorship: There is a huge exodus of people in their 60s leaving the workforce that takes a vast amount of skills and knowledge with them. It is important for companies and individuals to rethink the retirement and onboarding of new talent. The wise thing to do is pair the older generations with the younger ones through mentorship and coaching so that the skills and knowledge of those leaving the workforce get passed down.

  • Defining Culture: Culture can be an amorphous term. Culture is, at its root, the norms and values that shape behavior. And those norms and values oftentimes fly under the radar. Defining or creating culture is a simple cycle; People have experiences, and those experiences shape their beliefs about right or wrong behavior. These beliefs shape people’s behavior. Leaders can intervene and create new and different experiences for people and allow the art of communication, discovery, and interaction to lead the team to define their culture.

  • Going Deep Increases Productivity: Whether we are aware of it or not, we all bring our whole selves to work. In order to increase productivity letting go of the old model of compartmentalizing who you are or have to be at work is liberating and increases productivity. Many people have hidden abilities and talents that are not listed on their resumes. Getting to know the people you work with or work for and their untapped abilities increases creativity and job retention.

  • Experiential Learning: In essence, we all have to practice coping while growing up. The street or social smarts we develop as we live build skills that can be applied to that 10,000 Hour Rule, whether we're doing formal or informal stuff. This experiential learning is an opportunity to acknowledge informal skills that get overlooked. And companies can leverage them if they let go of some of the old rules of what an applicant should have on their resume.

You Are a Social Creation (with Dr. Brian Lowery)27 Jun 202300:40:02

You can expand yourself and your sense of the world in ways that will be surprising to you, stay curious, and take the time to understand the depth of those around you.

Walter Kenneth Kilpatrick Professor of Organizational Behavior at Stanford University Dr. Brian Lowery (@Dr. Brian Lowery) is a social psychologist whose new book, Selfless: The Social Creation of You, presents a provocative, powerful theory of identity, arguing that there is no essential "self"—our selves are social creations of those with whom we interact. He is passionate about the global discussion of equity and how each individual perceives life through the lens of having advantages vs. disadvantages. His work is one of inquiry where he asks you, the student, skeptic, or reader, to come to your own conclusions after entertaining his research, ideas, and assertions.

Advocate, social psychologist, and author Dr. Brian Lowery(@ Dr. Brian Lowery) is Walter Kenneth Kilpatrick Professor of Organizational Behavior at Stanford University. He has been an important voice in discussing white privilege and investigating social, institutional, and personal bias from learned or lived experience. His new book, Selfless: The Social Creation of You, is based on empirical science that reads with unintentional notes of Buddhism.

“The self is kind of like a time machine. You can think about the past through the self of who are you right now!”

- Dr. Brian Lowery

Key Takeaways:

  • Engaging with People: We are the center of our own world and our life regarding our experiences. Your experiences are deep, interesting, and broad. All people on this planet's experiences are deep, interesting, and broad. Engaging with people with this mindset will enrich your life.

  • Consider Who You Are: The Self is flexible, fluid, and changing over time. Consider what that means. How does the Self change? Also, how do you want the Self to change? What kind of situations will produce the type of change you'd like to have? Notice how your relationships impact the direction you are evolving because relationships are a fundamental part of being human. To be human is to be in relation with other human beings and your environment.

Responsibility as a Leader:  As a leader (and we are all leading whether we are aware of this agency or not), what you do or don’t do impacts everyone around you. Being a leader is not something to ignore. All of us are affecting those around us. When you engage with people in various situations, as a leader, pay attention to your and their desires. This attention will help you be responsible for those people and the outcomes you are co-creating together.

  • Small Interactions are Meaningful: The brief conversation you have in line at the grocery store can and does have meaning. You can expand yourself and your sense of the world in ways that will be surprising to you if you take the small interactions you have day to day more seriously. When you talk with people, ask them real questions, and listen to what they say. You don't have to agree with it, and you don't have to like them even. But if you listen, you will find something there for you in that brief moment or their answer.

  • The Sameness in Everybody: You get to know and develop more self-awareness through meditation. When you go deep within yourself, you understand that there is a sameness and synchronicity with everyone you meet. That's the essence of spiritual practices to touch into what makes us alive and creates us.

516. The Seven Commitments That Forge Elite Teams13 May 202500:53:37

Successful teams don’t just happen. In this week’s episode of The Unbeatable Mind, Mark is going solo (with his daughter Catherine joining for an insightful Q & A), to break down his acclaimed “seven commitments” model for building elite teams.

Drawing from his extensive Navy SEAL experience, Mark dives into the principles of courage, trust, respect, growth, resilience, excellence, and alignment. He explores why true elite teams aren’t about being better people, but by fostering intentional behaviours and growth.

Mark discusses how resistance to change can be a common pitfall in the building of strong teams, and the power of collective development not only in work, but in life. In order to achieve growth as a collective, honest communication and respect are paramount.

Key Takeaways:

  • The Fundamentality of Courage: Listen as Mark draws on personal experience from the SEALs, to illustrate how true courage within teams isn’t about bravado, but humility.

  • Growth Is Non-Negotiable: Realize that for a team to truly become elite, it requires constant growth from every member. When personal growth slows, so does the growth of the collective.

  • The Role of Physical Health in Teams: Discover how the most successful teams are ones that recognize their body and mind as one integrated system. Physical performance affects mental performance as individuals and collectively.

  • Resistance To Change: Recognize how even though resistance to change is completely normal, for those on a path of true growth, it’s ultimately futile.

Mark Divine, Ph.D., is the host of The Mark Divine Show, a solo podcast focused on developing mental toughness, emotional resilience, and intuitive leadership. A Navy SEAL veteran and leadership expert, Mark graduated as Honor Man of SEAL BUD/S class 170 and served 20 years in the SEAL teams, retiring as Commander in 2011. He is also the founder of SEALFIT and Unbeatable Mind, programs designed to enhance physical, mental, and emotional performance.

Mark holds a Ph.D. in Global Leadership and Change and has practiced Zen meditation and breathwork for over 30 years. His unique approach to leadership blends holistic, whole-person development with a focus on unlocking human potential. He has authored several bestselling books, including Unbeatable Mind and The Way of the SEAL. Mark lives in Encinitas, CA, with his wife, Sandy, their children, spirited grandchildren, and dogs, and is driven by a mission to inspire 100 million people to develop greater mental toughness, intuition, and compassion.

Take Agency of Your Attention Span (with Dr. Gloria Mark)20 Jun 202300:40:26

It's really important to become aware of your own attentional capacity and understand when your tank is starting to get low.

Our attention has become a commodity and is getting hijacked by technology. Dr. Gloria Mark (@Dr.GloriaMark) is the author of a groundbreaking book called Attention Span. Attention Span is a must-read as it covers Dr. Mark's decades of research into how our minds have been affected in the digital age. Gloria received her Ph.D. from Columbia University in psychology. She studies the impact of digital media on people's lives. Her work is a deep dive into examining multitasking, interruptions, mood, and productivity due to digital devices becoming so intricate in our lives. She has published over 200 articles and has presented her work at multiple venues.

Author and Creative Dr. Gloria Mark(@Dr.GloriaMark) is a Chancellor's professor of Informatics at the University of California Irvine. She has published and presented her work in venues such as the Aspen Ideas Festival, and it's appeared in popular media such as New York Times, Wall Street Journal, NPR, BBC, Atlantic, and more. Her new book, Attention Span is a must-read as it covers Dr. Mark’s decades of research into how our minds have been affected in the digital age.

“We have a limited set of attentional resources, or it's been called mental resources or cognitive resources. And you can think of it as your attentional capacity. And it's limited, these resources are limited, and they're very precious.”

- Dr. Gloria Mark

Key Takeaways:

  • 3 Types of Attention: Intentional attention is when you use your mental focus to do an activity such as writing, lifting weights, or scuba diving. Exogenous attention, or the default mode network, is when we respond to things outside of us. Kinetic attention is shifting from an iPhone to a computer or from one screen to another. Recent studies show that most people average 40 seconds per screen.

  • Technology as and Extension of Self: Devices like cellular phones and computers have become an extension of ourselves. Our lives have become intimately intertwined with their devices in this modern age. However, where is the line, and how can we draw it? Learning to be sovereign from our devices and drawing a healthy line for our identity is important.

  • Switch Cost: Every time you switch your attention, you incur an extra cost in time. Imagine you have an internal whiteboard in your mind and are writing everything you need for a specific task; if you switch in the middle of that list, you are erasing the board for the new task you have changed to. Therefore, when you return to the first task, it takes longer to reorient yourself. Multitasking or switching focus takes time and creates exhaustion and a lack of clarity.

  • Saying No in Service to Your Yes: Monotasking, a good night's sleep, and taking breaks throughout your day allows you to have balanced energy levels and replenish them if needed. Knowing how to say no in service to your bigger yes will allow you to be clear on what tasks/commitments are important and which ones you need to let go of or delegate to others.

Play and Presence (with Angelo Keely)13 Jun 202300:56:07

There is value in having fun and evolving oneself while being dedicated to a vision through hard work and play.

Curiosity and drive are two of the key tools in successful entrepreneurship. Angelo Keely(@AngeloKeely) is passionate about both of these tools. His background in religious studies, both western and eastern, help frame his mindset whenever he begins a new endeavor. Angelo is the Co-Founder and CEO of Kion, a nutritional supplement company that is focused on bringing the best product to the public.

Co-Founder and CEO of Kion Angelo Keely (@AngeloKeely), created the company motivated by the mission to support athletes. Kion brings the highest grade ingredients in delicious and simple supplementation for muscle health and development. Angelo is passionate about staying in motion and living a fulfilling life. His belief is that success means loving and healthy relationships with himself, family, and peers.

“ There's no free lunch. Same thing with business, there's no way to just like make tons of money in the super easy way. Maybe like out of luck. Same thing with health. There's no magic secret to health.”

- Angelo Keely

Key Takeaways:

  • Embodiment: As our world becomes more and more mechanistic and digital it is important to stay embodied. Embodiment is a daily practice of using our physical body through exercise and presence. Developing somatic awareness is multilayered and essential to live an embodied life.

  • Meditation, Health, and Nature: Meditation is not a goal oriented practice. It is a practice of learning how to be with oneself regardless of the circumstances of the mind. Meditation in nature is a fulfilling combination to regenerate and create more harmony and balance throughout the body. If your physical body is not healthy enough that may limit spiritual or mental or other types of development. Being in nature, your breath, and your thoughts, will eventually  get you to a point where you develop an honest relationship with yourself.

  • Amino Acids: There are nine essential amino acids that help the body build healthy muscle. The supplementation of amino acids is a proficient way of giving your body what it needs as a fuel to build strong and healthy muscle mass. Amino acids create all of the new muscle protein synthesis. Once you consume essential amino acids, either as a supplement or as a whole food protein, your body enters a process of muscle protein synthesis that lasts about three hours.

  • Personal Commitments: One of the themes that is pervading the wellness industry is commitment. The question to ask oneself is who are you committed to being? What are your core values, ethics, and beliefs? Living in integrity through those commitments means that they are at the forefront of all your words and actions

Preventative Training for Mental Health (with Mark Bouchard)06 Jun 202300:37:27

We train police and military how to overcome the challenges of being physically safe. It's time to show them tools of how to overcome the psychological impact and challenges from being in the field as an active duty officer.

Police and Military personal have a higher rate of suicide than the civilian population. Mark Bouchard (@MarkBouchard) is currently with Canada's national police force, the RCMP. He was a SWAT operator and a medic who has developed a passion for mental health after suffering his own psychological injury back in 2015. Mark has taught dozens of mental health training sessions and spent seven years as a peer support member. His new book, Setting My Sights On Stigma: Thoughts From an Injured Mind, is an offering of information on how to navigate and heal from the psychological injuries from being on the front line.

Mark Bouchard (@MarkBouchard) is creating a course on police culture and lethal force decisions for The First Responder Behavioral Health Institute. His new book, Setting My Sights On Stigma: Thoughts From an Injured Mind, is an offering of information on how to navigate and heal from the psychological injuries of being on the front line. Mark is a father, mental health advocate, and active duty police officer in the Canadian national force.

“The reality is, everyone is different in their versions of the impact of trauma, whether it's PTSD, depression, anxiety, they'll be impacted in different ways, and different treatments can help them.”

- Mark Bouchard

Key Takeaways:

  • Destigmatizing PTSD: PTSD is a diagnosis that can trap many in feeling helpless, less than, and out of control. Leaders in the military and police services are fighting to destigmatize the negative connotations of this diagnosis so that people do not feel afraid to come forward and get the help they need.

  • The New Way: Drinking too much alcohol and eating to deal with stress has been acceptable coping mechanisms in many professional communities. It is becoming common knowledge that these behaviors only add more stress on the mental, physical and emotional bodies. The new way is a path of healing and health and it works; get good sleep, eat well, journal thoughts and feelings, and get support.

  • Psychological Preventative Training: Suicide is becoming more common for active duty police and military. It is becoming obvious and urgent that police and military programs implement preventative psychological training for new recruits. Preventative training can help educate personnel in the forces on PTSD, anxiety, depression, and suicidal ideation so they know what is happening if it comes up and how to get help.

  • People Who Love to Serve: When you ask new recruits going into the military or police fields why they want to join the force. The #1 answer is, “to help people”. Most people go into the field of policing or military because they truly want to be of service to the community, state, and country.

Make it Hard (with John U Bacon)30 May 202300:44:53

Don’t be afraid to give control as a leader. The most successful teams work hard, have compassion, and understand how to transfer leadership between teammates.

Renowned sport’s journalist John U Bacon (@JohnUBacon) has a passion for leadership and teams. He won the Award of the Night Wallace Fellowship for journalism from the University of Michigan. And most interesting, he took the worst high school hockey team as a coach from the worst to one of the best in the country in four years. He is the author of 11 books, seven of which are national bestsellers. His most recent book is a New York Times Best Seller; Let Them Lead: Unexpected Lessons in Leadership From America’s Worst High School Hockey Team, shares insights on leadership and the power of making things hard.

John U. Bacon (@John U Bacon) career as a leader and teacher spans three decades. He has won awards for being an inspiring writer, a public speaker, and a college instructor. Bacon has taught at Northwestern’s Medill School of Journalism, and teaches at the University of Michigan. Although he is a mediocre hockey player his excitement and knowledge of sports has made national history.

“ You are very impatient with behaviors and very patient with results. If your attitude is good, and you're doing all things I'm telling you to do and our processes are correct. If you follow those, you will get there and worry less about the results and more about the process. ”

- John U. Bacon

Key Takeaways:

  • High Bar: Keeping a high bar allows people to rise to the challenge. People prove over and over again that when things are hard and challenging it inspires them to want to do better and become more comfortable with failure. When the bar is held high it teaches people they are more capable and can exceed their own expectations.

  • Team Leadership: Strong and successful teams let go of the hierarchical models. The ones in “control” or “command” know when to defer to those in lower ranks when the mission calls for it. Strong leadership is understanding that everyone can lead and needs to lead within their strengths as it is called for.

  • Effort is Important: Technique and skills can be taught. If you want to learn how to be more aggressive and successful in business and fall on the shy or introverted spectrum, let go of fear of failure. All good leaders understand that the quality of hard work and effort is more important than someone knowing how to do something correctly.

  • Mentorship Over Money: Having strong mentorship, especially when you are young is more important than making money. The money will come eventually if you have the right attitude, develop your skills, and stay humble.

AI’s Place in Therapy and Coaching (with Dr. Gabriella Rosen Kellerman)23 May 202300:34:21

AI could possibly be one of the best tools for the mental health field. The merging of technology and therapy is exciting and getting proven results..

AI is no longer some strange science fiction concept, it is becoming a part of human existence. Dr. Gabriella Kellerman (@gabriellarosenkellerman) has dedicated her life to discovering the most impactful ways to empower and transform the condition of mental illness. Her passion for the science of thriving has led her to become the Chief Innovation Officer and Chief Product Officer at BetterUp Labs. Her new book Tomorrow Mind is all about thriving and training our minds to investigate and learn how we can improve our thought process, attitudes, and actions.

Many advances have been made thanks to the technology advancements of AI. Utilizing this new era Dr. Gabriella Kellerman has dedicated her work in discovering research based inclusive methods that will support people in thriving in today's world. Inspired by her father’s dedication to helping humanity with sustainable energy resources, Dr. Kellerman from a young age decided she wanted to also dedicate her life to a purpose that would serve humanity.

“ We are trying to help people shift into a more proactive mindset, where it's not about any one challenge. It's about all of the challenges to come preparing to meet them with greater resilience, greater foresight, greater reserves of motivation. ”

- Dr. Gabriella Rosen Kellerman

Key Takeaways:

  • PRISM: This acronym stands for Honing Prospection: the ability to think about the future (P), Resilience (R), Finding, Innovation, establishing Social supports (S), and  meaning (M).

  • Key Difference of a Coach vs. Therapist: Therapists can treat clinical conditions, get reimbursement from insurance, etc. Therapists do also see high functioning people for non clinical purposes without insurance reimbursement which can look a lot like coaching. Coaches do not do clinical work, they do not treat clinical conditions. They are wonderful resources for building personal and professional development skills.

  • Toxic Positivity: Toxic positivity is sort of a shallow positivity, where people know that underlying it is not that depth of authentic, positive feeling. Chasing happiness as a goal or the ultimate state can be toxic because it can trap us in denying the value of the rainbow of emotional states. Living a positive life includes relationships, deep engagement with your work, a sense of achievement, a sense of meaning and purpose, these don't always come with positive emotions as relationships can be difficult.

Optimistic Thinking: Our brains tend to lean toward pessimistic thoughts. Being aware of when we go into fear or reaction and looking at what thoughts come up is important. Catching negative thoughts regarding outcomes and countering them with possible positive results can help us stay in balance and be less reactive.

The New Frontier of Mental Health (with Dr. Chris Palmer)16 May 202300:44:26

Mental disorders are now the leading cause of disability on the planet and in the United States.  We have a crisis and we need new ideas and new approaches.

Mental health has become a global crisis. Harvard psychiatrist and researcher Dr. Chris Palmer (@ChrisPalmerMD) is the Director of the Department of postgraduate and continuing education in McLean Hospital, and he's an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School.  His research is leading the future of understanding, diagnosis and treatment of mental illness. His recent book Brain Energy outlines a revolutionary new understanding that for the first time unites our existing knowledge about mental illness within a single framework: mental disorders are metabolic disorders of the brain.

Dr. Chris Palmer was personally impacted witnessing the decline of his mother’s mental health when he was a child. His frustration with the medical system and his own struggles drove him into the field of psychology where he has focused on understanding what mental disorders are and how they can be treated in a new and more effective way. Dr. Palmer has made a link of metabolic health and treatment that is changing the way Western medicine views and approaches our mental health crisis.

“ I am putting people with mental disorders (bipolar, schizophrenia, depression) into full remission, sometimes off of psychiatric medications, using strategies like the ketogenic diet, but also exercise, good sleep, get off the drugs and alcohol, and stress reduction.”

- Dr. Chris Palmer

Key Takeaways:

  • Mitochondria and Brain Health: Genes get turned off or on primarily in relation to mitochondria. There has been an explosion of research on the tiny things in our cells and the benefits of addressing them for brain health. Mitochondria are the primary regulators of the metabolism, and brain disorders are being linked to metabolic disorders. Scientists are beginning to understand the role of the metabolism and mitochondria, and the role they play in mental health.

  • Individuals Brain Strength: Just like how each of us have certain muscles that are stronger than others, our brains are similar. Each of us have areas of the brain that are stronger or weaker. Once you locate the weak areas of the brain you can often retrain them and see amazing results in cognition and emotional functioning.

  • Ketogenic Diet, Lifestyle, and Brain Function: The ketogenic diet has amazingly profound impacts on the human brain. The ketogenic diet promotes metabolic health which positively affects the brain. The application of the Ketogenic diet paired with proper sleep, stress reduction, finding purpose, and exercise is a prescription that is working. However it isn’t a quick fix, it takes years of dedication and focus to see full remission in patients.

  • Medication is Limited: Although medication can be effective in treating the symptoms of a mental disorder there are limitations and many side effects. Dr. Palmer has dedicated his life’s work to finding better ways than the mainstream focus on medicating patients. He believes that although medication is necessary at times it is not the only route for treatment, and can be very limiting for overall recovery of mental health and brain disorders.

Food is Medicine (with Dr. Will Cole)09 May 202300:53:51

I would say focus on whole foods. Focus on nutrient density, and  have it be bioavailable nutrient dense food. Meaning foods that are high in nutrients, that's first and foremost when it comes to being healthy.

.

Gut imbalance and shame are like hand in glove when it comes to being healthy according to Dr. Will Cole (@Dr. Will Cole). As a visionary in the health field he created one of the first functional medicine telehealth centers in the world. He is the author of Ketotarian, Intuitive Fasting, and Gut Feelings. He is one of the top 50 functional and integrative doctors in the nation and specializes in clinically investigating underlying factors of chronic disease.

Dr. Will Cole spent his earnings as a teenager on the latest superfood or herb that he was learning about. His passion and curiosity led him into the field of functional medicine where he is dedicated to demystifying how to get and stay healthy. Dr. Cole has a podcast, The Art of Being Well, where he explores a variety of diverse topics. His latest passion is finding the intimate relationship between our emotions and our gut health and how they affect one another.

“I think if you're getting enough from food, you don't really need many supplements, it’s that simple.”

- Dr. Will Cole

  • Ketogenic Diet: Eating Keto can be very beneficial, but it isn’t for everyone. When you are eating ketogenically you want your diet to consume 65-75%fat. And this is good fats. The false belief that you can eat anything you want as long as you are in the correct percentage range of fat intake is incorrect and dangerous for your health.

  • Shame and Gut Health: It is becoming more and more clear that our emotional and mental states are directly affected by our gut health. And just like the saying what came first, the chicken or the egg, our emotional and mental states affect our gut health. Our bodies and beingness are interwoven and deeply connected. Living with shame is a leading cause for gut imbalance.

  • Organization and Intuitive Nutrition: If you can be organized and take time to test which foods, diet, and supplements work best to keep your body in harmony then you can start to let go of structures regarding diet and eat intuitively.

  • Western vs. Functional Medicine: One of the main differences between Western and Functional medicine is the way the doctors use your labs. Functional medicine focuses on you being compared to and living in optimal health.

Caldera + Lab! - As you age, you might notice more Fine Lines, Wrinkles and signs of Aging. It’s time to take control of your skin with Caldera + Lab! The Power of Ultra Habits (with RJ Singh)02 May 202300:44:37

Meditation, contemplation, all the spiritual practices, even therapy is all asking you to look within. You're not looking out there to solve your problem, you're looking within.

RJ Singh is all about Ultra Habits and the power of implementing positivity into your daily routine. His early life was one of violence, crime, jails, and addiction. With the support of mentors and supportive frameworks Singh embarked on the path of overcoming the pull of living in the shadows. Through his experiences he developed a system which empowers individuals to embark on the journey of living in awareness of mind, body, and spirit.

RJ Singh believes in limitless possibilities. He is a corporate and ultra-endurance athlete, family man and is dedicated to the pursuit of self-mastery. His life mission is to lead by example and share what he has learned about the power of habit and choice.

“As a person stays sober longer, and they're doing the work. They move into a place where they've read all the books, they've accumulated all the information, and you kind of realize that all that information is saying the same thing. Ultimately, within our heart and soul and being, we know the answers.”

- RJ Singh

Key Takeaways:

  • Sitting with Yourself: Being able to sit alone in a room and do nothing except be present to yourself in the moment is challenging for many. Learning to be with your thoughts, feelings, and the space inbetween is foundational to being present with life and others.

  • The Levels of the Mind: There are layers to the mind's activity and stories. Observation, engagement, identification, and witnessing. When all the thoughts settle and you have become a witness to how your mind functions a deep understanding is discovered.

  • Recovery: Addictions that undermine our health, relationships, and professional goals are like mold inside a wall. Unless you eradicate the root cause, identify the triggers, and build a solid community of support it is challenging to overcome the behaviors. Creating positive habits to replace the negative addictions is an important step to recovery.

  • Honesty: We all lie to ourselves at some point when we are living in an addiction. Getting clear about the insidious nature of deceit and how it undermines recovery is essential. And being truthful with our words and actions toward the self and others is necessary.

Mystery and Revolution in Science (with Mark Fox)25 Apr 202300:47:55

Many things can be explained to the smallest detail. There are the things like Aspirin that we know work, however still cannot explain exactly why it works. This is the power of trusting the seen and the unseen in science and medicine.

Mark Fox (@markfox) is an engineer, entrepreneur, inventor, and author. From rocket building to PEMF therapy Mark uses his skills and curiosity to invent solutions for the seemingly unsolvable. Utilizing TRIZ in his work, Mark is on the cutting edge of groundbreaking inventions that could change the future of our health and home.

Inventor and visionary Mark Fox shares how to access your creativity and curiosity in his book DaVinci and the 40 Answers. He has been researching and evolving a device that helps heal the body through the pulse electromagnetic field for the past 17 years. His company Resona Health has statistically helped Veterans reduce PTSD symptoms.

“ PEMF stands for pulsed electro-magnetic field. So it's what it sounds like: it's an electromagnetic field that pulses. Now, the earth, the earth is a 24/7, since the beginning of time, as far as we know, is a PMF machine”

- Mark Fox

Key Takeaways:

  • TRIZ: The theory of inventive problem solving: A Russian acronym that is based in the 40 categories inventions fall into. A lens that helps you look at problem solving creatively to find new and fresh perspectives. Examples: What is the inverse of the situation? Mechanical vibration, what happens when you shake it? Looking at the problem from another dimension.

  • Grounding: The earth has an electromagnetic field that is pulsing 24/7. It has been scientifically proven that it is good for one’s health to walk barefoot on the natural ground, connected to earth’s frequency. This practice of what is now called “earthing” is a key grounding principle in many eastern traditions such as yoga and martial arts.

  • FDA Funding: 75% of FDA funding is by Big-Pharma. Most of the money that funds the Food and Drug Administration comes with the influence, entitlement, and parameters of the big pharmaceutical companies agenda.

  • Imagining the Future: It is possible that things like lightbulbs, our cellular devices, and other everyday devices in the home could be transformed into tools to make your home a rejuvenation station. This is the vision of using frequency to heal our bodies and minds from ailments.

Enlightenment as a Birthright (with Johnathan Robinson)18 Apr 202300:49:12

I do a very simple meditation that is very powerful. I made a list of everybody I've ever loved in my life. And I spend one minute focusing on thinking what I love about them, and then send them love.

Johnathan Robinson (@Johnathan.Robinson) believes that enlightenment is for everyone. He is the author of 14 books, a frequent guest on Oprah, and a psychotherapist. His recent book The Enlightenment Project is an offering to its readers as a guide to support people in reaching permanent states of peace, joy.

Jonathan Robinson set out to discover the best ways to find inner peace by studying with over 100 well-known spiritual teachers. In his books, podcast (Awareness Explorers), and talks he shares his findings in a way that is relatable, realistic, and attainable. Jonathan has reached over 100 million people and has been a frequent guest on Oprah, CNN, and other national TV shows, and his work has been featured in USA Today, Newsweek, and Reader’s Digest.

“When you let go of the grabbing or the tendencies of the ego, what's left is a place of spacious peace and open-heartedness.”

- Johnathan Robinson

Key Takeaways:

  • Modern Ways to Enlightenment: There are ways to get into the supreme state of consciousness, known as enlightenment, through simple techniques/practices. It doesn’t have to take you 10,20,30 years; if you find a short and effective method, you can quickly reach full awareness and bliss.

  • Emotional Clean-Up on the Path: Clearing our neurosis, past traumas, and negative habitual patterns is vital for a practitioner on the spiritual path. You want to get your vessel clear and free from the ego lens.

  • Who am I: The practice of asking the question, “Who am I?” is fantastic and will help you peel away the layers of false identities and access what is ego and what is not.

  • The Teacher: The saying, “When the student is ready, the teacher will come,” is not a cliche. On the spiritual path, you will find your teachers at the right time. Ultimately, when ready, you will see that everyone is a teacher and carries a lesson for you.

Dreaming Money Into Reality (with Ramit Sethi)11 Apr 202300:49:29

Interestingly enough… people often focus on what can go wrong instead of right when discussing living a life of generosity and financial abundance.

Ramit Sethi (@ramit) is an entrepreneur, financial advisor, and author. His New York Times bestselling book, I Will Teach You to Be Rich, has sold over 10 million copies. Ramit is passionate about how people view their relationship with money and how it impacts romantic relationships. He has a Netflix series coming out this year, where he will take people on the journey to a wealth mindset and habits.

Passionate, focused, and purposefully unrealistic, Ramit Sethi wants people to dream big about money. He recently released a companion journal to his New York Times bestselling book titled I Will Teach You to Be Rich: The Journal. In this playbook, he teaches and encourages the participant to dream big and create a vision that can be activated, acted on, and materialized.

“ My money rules are positive. So remember, they're my rules. I get to create whatever I want. So I have 10 Money rules. Everybody can Google Ramit’s 10 Money Rules..”

- Ramit Sethi

Key Takeaways:

  • Visioning Your Rich Life: Each of us has a unique vision of a prosperous life. Knowing yours, writing it out, and visualizing is a step toward financial freedom and success. Be specific in your creation and dream as BIG as you possibly can.

  • Debt and Financial Planning: Do not ignore your debt and just hope it goes away. Take the time to sit down and plan how to get out of debt. If it feels overwhelming, find support to help you map out a path to financial freedom.

  • Partnerships and Money: Understanding your romantic partner's beliefs about money are essential. Money problems or different belief systems can create unnecessary stress in relationships.

  • Your Relationship with Money: Many of us spend time working on having healthy relationships with people, ourselves, food, and work. Money often needs to be noticed. Carving out time to learn about how money works, your beliefs regarding money, and creating a plan for your financial abundance is important.

The Layers of Leadership (with Command Sergeant Major Bradley Jones)04 Apr 202300:46:02

The best leaders can communicate upsets with their team and then move on. It is important to support and mentor those who do not see themselves as leaders yet by being accountable and honest through word and action.

Command Sergeant Major Bradley Jone's (@authorBPJones) faith and fortitude brought him into a life of service both in and out of the military. His recent book Treading the Deep is a memoir/guidebook on discovering one’s path as a servant leader.

With his unstoppable faith, Command Sergeant Major Bradley Jones has the ability to communicate the hows and whats of making great leaders that will form and shape the future of the US military. His attitude and teaching encourage and inspire the notion that no matter what the circumstance, we can all find meaning and vision.

“ I would talk to my leaders about that, like, look, the doors can open rapidly, and you need to be ready to step through.”

- Command Sergeant Major Bradley Jones

Key Takeaways:

  • Learning about Leadership: You can learn as much from a toxic leader as a good one. Knowing what doesn’t work or what is harmful in a leadership role gives you tools you can use to discover why a leader is good or dysfunctional and toxic.

  • Different Interpretations are Powerful: Taking multiple perspectives empowers you as a leader when you want to inspire and educate yourself and others. When dealing with complexity, always ask yourself what stance you can take.

  • Servant Leadership: Over 25 types of leadership scratch the surface of philosophies regarding leadership. A servant leader's leadership style and attitude show when interacting with others. They want to engage and strengthen everyone on their team so that the leadership is decentralized and all participants thrive in their areas of expertise.

  • Look out for Others: If you have the information and ability to help another person succeed, use it for good. Leaders who help engage and uplift people exemplify how good leaders look out for their teams.

- Mathew Dawson

Key Takeaways:

  • Genetic Disposition : Our genetics are part of how we are able to manage stress and perspective in situations. Having the knowledge of your genetic predisposition not only helps you thrive physically and avoid sickness, it also helps you comprehend certain proclivities you have towards particular environments.

  • Humans as a Whole: Often western medicine treats with medication for the symptom showing up in the body, which is only a bandaid for health. It is vital to treat a person as a whole organism and find the root of disease and treat from there. You are not a collection of organ systems, you are a whole person.

Taking Ownership (with Jason Feifer)21 Mar 202300:48:48

Entrepreneurs identify themselves, not just by the product of their work, but by something that's deeper by a core mission.

Jason Feifer (@ heyfeifer) the Editor in Chief at Entrepreneur Magazine, a podcast host, keynote speaker, and startup advisor. Known as an unstoppable optimist Jason enjoys writing and presenting on the topics of taking ownership, creating opportunities, and building for tomorrow.

Jason Feifer newest book, Build for Tomorrow is a manual on how to adapt to change, cultivate resilience, and reinvention.

“ I have this theory of humanity, which is, everybody has the same skill. And that skill is pattern matching. The difference is that we're all good at matching different patterns. The more that you can figure out which patterns you're good at matching, the more you can lean into that.”

- Jason Feifer

Key Takeaways:

  • Entrepreneurs are Vertical Thinkers : Entrepreneurs only do things because the thing that they're doing is the foundation upon which they will build more on. They think about how doing one thing is going to lead to the next thing, how they're going to develop some new skill or insight.

  • Pattern Recognition: Learning which patterns you recognize will guide you to know what you are innately talented in and how to develop. Also, if you listen to the questions that people ask you, you will discover that those questions pointing to what people think your value is to them.

  • The Future of Work: The four day work week if implemented can be very successful for many problems. As the future of work changes companies and employees need to understand that solving one problem might create another better problem. When this happens, it is important not to throw out the original idea, instead address the new better problem and fix it.

  • Identify with an Archeytpe: Identify the archetype that best defines who you are and what drives you. If you do this, even if your circumstance change (job title, financial status, relationships) you will have less sense of identity loss and more resilient as you adapt.

The Warriors Path (with DJ Eagle Bear Vanas)14 Mar 202300:47:36

Time is precious. I believe in working smarter, not harder.

DJ Eagle Bear Vanas (@d.j. vanas) is an leadership expert, international speaker, best selling author, member of the Ottowa Tribe, producer and director. His recent book The Warrior Within draws from Native American traditions and philosophies which are high tech wisdom for the modern warrior.

DJ Eagle Bear Vanas newest book, The Warrior Within  is a transformational guide to getting yourself right in order to accomplish the work you were meant to do.

“Being a warrior is somebody who can show up day in and day out, deliver on their responsibilities impact the world contribute.”

- DJ Eagle Bear Vanas

Key Takeaways:

  • Native American Medicine: Medicine is taken throughout the day; deep breaths, prayer, songs, taking stillness, and spending time connecting and learning from nature.

  • Listening to Your Intuition: Our innate wisdom, otherwise known as intuition, is guiding us at all moments. It is important to learn how to hear your intuition and have the courage to not override the voice even when it is telling you something that is inconvenient.

  • We All Need Support: Everyone struggles. The illusion that some people have it all together all the time is false, and harmful to the collective. It is important for leaders to show that they struggle and know how to ask for support so that those in the community can do the same and do not hold themselves to unrealistic standards.

  • Serve and Protect Eachother: Being a warrior is about service and love for our fellow human, non-human, and the environment. In the Native American tradition warriors were very clear in their purpose, it was to feed and protect their people, not to feed and protect their ego.

Making The Most Out Of Time (with Nick Sonnenberg)07 Mar 202300:45:03

Time is precious. I believe in working smarter, not harder.

Nick Sonnenberg (@nicholassonnenberg) is an entrepreneur, author, and world-renowned innovator of efficiency for self and teams. Nick’s recent book Come Up For Air made the Wall Street Journal’s best selling list in 2023.

Nick Sonnenberg's Come Up For Air is a timeless guide for anyone who wants to improve their productivity and work smarter, not harder.

“Work has changed. And it's kind of like what's going on as people are still using a typewriter. Basically, when you could get a new M2 chip and a MacBook Pro, and you're trying to get stuff done on a typewriter, it's just suboptimal.”

- Nick Sonnenberg

Key Takeaways:

  • Strategy over Luck: Working smart is about having the right strategy and tools. Some companies can be lucky in success. However, there is always a moment when all teams need to learn to finetune their algorithm.

  • CPR: The core to success for any team is Communication, Planning Tools, and Resources. This acronym is the foundation of Nick’s success in helping teams become effective in saving time and finding balance at work.

  • Email Zero Inbox Rule: Keep your email at 0 and improve your work flow. This rule makes sure you do not miss opportunities that can cost you potentially millions of dollars.

  • Saving Money and Time in Meetings: Take inventory of who really needs to be in a meeting. If someone can make you a video of a report and send it to you, that can save you and your team valuable meeting time. Cut back on the length of the meetings to save money and time. It is simple and efficient.

The Stories We Tell and Changing Perspective(with David Richman)28 Feb 202300:41:26

Our perspective in any given moment dictates how we live our lives. David Richman (@davidrichman_cycleoflives) is an author and speaker who rode 4700 miles to interview and connect to the stories he tells in his new book Cycle of Lives.

Cycle of Lives explores the importance of having difficult conversations with ourselves and others so that we can live a life of integrity and inspiration.

“Once you make it okay to quit, it becomes a lot easier to quit… Once you say, no, let me see if I can go just one more step, just go a little bit further, it becomes a little bit easier to not quit”

- David Richman

Key Takeaways:

  • Sonder: The realization that each random passerby is living a life as vivid and complex as your own. Sonder is a term that ties in many psychological concepts relevant to our well-being and staying grounded. Sonder is an awareness of ourselves living a unique perspective and life which entails various abilities. In this awareness, we realize everyone else is also doing this. It is having perspective and understanding.

  • A Life Well Lived: Take a pause to look at yourself in the mirror and asking  important questions like, who am I committed to being? What am I doing or not doing that is an expression of that commitment? Who am I now, and who am I becoming? These are a few important questions that can help create a path for a life well lived.

  • Difficult Conversations and Trauma: Whether it is the trauma of our childhood, disease, or a single event, learning how to have conversations with our loved ones about the emotions involved is vital to be connected in our relationships.

  • Everyone Has a Story To Tell: Many people devalue or play down their personal stories. Everyone has a story that, if shared, can help others understand themselves and the world in a new way. Learning to value and tell your personal story is an act of service.

Biohacking and Human Evolution(with Dave Asprey)21 Feb 202300:48:43

Mark speaks with Dave Asprey. Dave Asprey is the father of biohacking, a four times New York best-selling author, and the founder of groundbreaking companies Bulletproof, Danger Coffee, and Upgrade Labs.

Dave’s mission is to empower the entire globe with information and knowledge that unlocks the Super Human in everyone at any age.

The proof of these advancements: is improved sleep, energy, and expanded capacity. His books Headstrong, Bulletproof Diet, Super Human, and the newly released Smarter Not Harder are roadmaps to accessing your full potential.

“I think birth and death are the same thing. And people can say what you know or do you believe in past lives. There's an argument for that. I've seen enough of my past lives, things that I couldn't explain any other way. But maybe that's all just I've convinced myself. There's a rational argument to believe in reincarnation, and it goes like this. If reincarnation is real, then there's not a problem with believing in it. But let's assume it's false. If you tell yourself it's true, every decision you make in this life will be made with less fear because you're not afraid of dying. It's starting the video game over again versus you never get to play over. So even if you're wrong. When you die, you're not going to know you're wrong. So if you believe in reincarnation, you live this life with less fear, regardless of the actual existence of reincarnation. So I decided a while ago, you know, it's rational to believe in it, whether or not you can prove it.” Dave Asprey

Key Takeaways:

  • The Laziness Hack: You can trick yourself into being motivated to exercise. Look at it as the same principle as buying something on sale, and you don’t say you spent x amount of dollars to yourself, and you say I saved x amount of dollars. When you find efficient ways of getting the most out of your exercise, meditation, and intellectual pursuits, you can tell yourself you are saving time. This becomes a motivation hack, and you are more likely to do those things.

  • Conscious Awareness: Part of being Super Human is realizing how much your “meat suit”(the body) drives your cravings and impulses. Becoming aware that those cravings and impulses are not you allows you to make better choices for your relationships, health, and longevity.

  • Minerals are Important: Our soil is depleted of minerals, so our food doesn’t provide what the body needs. Also, certain foods deplete your body of minerals. Having a diet that feeds your body instead of robbing it of what it needs is essential. And supplementation is now becoming more vital for brain/body health.

  • Smarter Not Harder: Biohacking is a way to navigate our busy lives and make the most out of our time each day. There are revolutionary ways to train the body that take less time and have better results. Each person is different; therefore, it is important to design your training, diet, and mindfulness practice for you specifically.

Everyone is an Entrepreneur with the Right Tools14 Feb 202300:50:14

Mark speaks with Danny Warshay. From Brown University, Danny is Professor and Executive Director at the Nelson Center for Entrepreneurship at Brown.

He leads thought provoking workshops on entrepreneurship and creativity around the world.

He began his entrepreneurial pursuits while an undergrad at Brown when he was a member of a software startup team company called ClearView, which then was later acquired by Apple.

Then he co-founded and sold companies and fields ranging from software to advanced materials, consumer products, and the media.

Danny has created a road map for entrepreneurs with his new book See, Solve, Scale: How anyone can turn an unsolved problem into a breakthrough success.

Key Takeaways:

  • Entrepreneurship is a Learned Skill: It is a myth that entrepreneurship is something you're born with. It is something that anybody can learn. There are fundamental principles for every entrepreneur to follow and find success in their endeavor.

  • Diverse Teams Matter: It is statistically proven that if a founding team is diverse and inclusive at the start of founding a company, they will be more successful. This means that everyone is asked and allowed to show up as their true selves.

  • Ikigai: Live a life with purpose and meaning. This is a Japanese philosophy that is rooted in being clear that every decision, action, and plan is part of your life’s purpose.

  • See, Solve, and Skill: Seeing a problem, finding a solution, and creating a product or service for the initial problem are part of the entrepreneurial equation. It is also important to know what you are good at and make sure you love your pursuits.

Key Takeaways:

  • True North Leadership: True North Leadership is about leaders understanding that it is important to have meaning in what they choose to do as a profession. Leader’s are encouraged to travel a path of self discovery and knowing your authentic self.
  • It’s Alright to Disagree: Know your beliefs and values. It is alright and helps us evolve when we respectfully can discuss our different opinions and views on complex topics.
  • Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: DEI has to be more about statistics and checklist for a company. People need to know they belong and are valued. They also need to feel included in the conversations and heard. This takes leaders to get out of their offices and into the field with employees.
  • Get Outside of Your Culture: When you travel and work outside your home country you become the minority. This allows you to examine yourself from new perspectives that teaches you about communication, values, and relationships.

514. Emotional Intelligence in the Age of AI W/ Catherine Divine29 Apr 202500:48:30

Emotional Intelligence–or EQ is now more vital than ever. In today’s episode of The Unbeatable Mind, Mark’s daughter Catherine is sitting down for a candid and insightful discussion about emotional development and the evolving landscape of leadership in a world that’s becoming more dominated by AI.

Catherine and Mark explore the limitations of traditional leadership models that prioritize IQ over EQ, touching on how emotional awareness, self-control, and the oft-overlooked concept of “us” in relationships are fundamental aspects of effective leadership. Drawing from their personal experiences, Mark and Catherine dissect the energy of emotions, the mind-body connection, and the importance of radical self-acceptance.

Together, Mark and Catherine emphasize that real growth does not happen in isolation, it’s our most challenging interactions through the emotional landscape that we become better leaders, teammates, and people.

Key Takeaways:

  • Relational Development: Discover how the most impactful growth happens not in isolation, but through relationships. Real emotional development is tested through authentic connection and mutual vulnerability.

  • EQ VS. IQ: Learn why Mark and Catherine believe EQ is the leadership superpower of the future. When machines can outperform us in data and logic, our unique advantage lies in self-awareness, empathy, and connection.

  • The Body-Mind Connection: Understand how acknowledging the somatic side of your feelings can unlock deep growth and healing. Emotions are simply energy in motion—the body plays a key role.

  • EQ as a Daily Practice: Recognize how emotional maturity is not a destination—but rather a lifelong journey that requires mindfulness, honest communication, and vulnerability.

Catherine Divine is a leadership coach, author, and yoga instructor with over 20 years of experience helping leaders unlock their full potential. Coauthor of Kokoro Yoga with her stepfather, Mark Divine, and author of Sacred Silence, Catherine holds a Master’s in Transformative Leadership from CIIS and is pursuing a PhD in East-West Psychology. As a Master Unbeatable Mind Coach, she has trained C-suite executives, Special Ops candidates, and high-performance leaders, guiding them to integrate mindfulness, emotional intelligence, and resilience. Catherine combines intuitive healing with strategic insight to help leaders overcome challenges, heal from trauma, and strengthen their mind-body-soul connection.

Endless Possibilities with NeuroHacking - with James Schmachtenberger31 Jan 202301:00:56

Today, Commander Divine speaks with James Schmachtenberger, CEO and co-founder of the Neuro Hacker Collective. Neuro Hacker is dedicated to cutting edge research to provide supplements for brain, body, and emotional health and well being. James has been an entrepreneur since the age of 17, with businesses that were diverse yet always focused on being in service to the health and well being of humanity.

Key Takeaways:

  • Longevity: There are cells in our body called senescence cells. These cells are healthy cells that continue to divide and reproduce until they start to die, which is called apoptosis. These cells then affect other cells to begin to die in the body. Research is starting to show that we can stop this from happening, and therefore increase quality and length of life.

  • Successful Path for Meditation: Because our bodies are in a hyper-aroused state due to modern living. Inoreder to have a more beneficial and enjoyable meditation practice it is important to prime yourself through journaling, exercise, and breathwork before sitting to meditate.

  • Corruption in Politics: Large Companies invest in having highly intelligent and well trained professionals to surround congress people in order to make sure that the policies passed favor their needs. The system is corrupt and needs to change so people going into politics with the best intentions are not corrupted.

Rethinking Education: Traditional ways of educating are good for some learning. However, as more research is being done there is proof that there is a better way. This way is educating children through their interests and teaching them how to think and explore to gain knowledge and information.

Fortifying and Empowered Leadership24 Jan 202300:38:36

Mark speaks with Dr. Richard Winters. Richard Winters is a practicing emergency physician and executive coach at Mayo Clinic.

As director of Leadership Development for the Mayo Clinic Care Network.

He facilitates retreats and delivers programs that train leaders at healthcare organizations worldwide.

He has served as managing partner of a democratic physician group, chair of emergency medicine, president of an 800-physician medical staff, and CEO/founder of a managed care startup.

He recently released his book called: You're the Leader, Now What? Lessons from Mayo Clinic.

Key Takeaways:

  • GROW Model for Coaching: Coaching is a hugely helpful skill for leaders and managers in the world of work. The GROW model, which stands for Goals, Reality, Options, and Will, is a wonderful tool for coaching and setting clear guidelines for yourself to gain momentum and traction toward your goals.

  • Expert's Role: Experts are a powerful resource when there is a unique issue that is specific in nature. As a leader, there are many situations where you or your team may know what to do. However, if there is an out-of- the-box need or want, calling in an expert can be one of the best ways to learn and develop both horizontally and vertically.

  • Immunity to Change: Finding out what you as an individual and or your organization are making assumptions about and then testing if the assumptions have validity allows growth and change. Often there are assumptions being made in communications or direction due to unconscious bias. Understanding that we all have blind spots, leaders need to constantly investigate what assumptions are being made and test them for validity.

  • Different Types of Leaders: There are leaders that are great in chaos and making decisions when things are rapidly changing. Then there are leaders who are wonderful at reaching out to colleagues to discuss and collaborate on changes that need to be made. The best type of leader can do both. However, it is not often you find the two qualities in one person.

Living Happy and Avoiding Burnout17 Jan 202300:51:27

Mark speaks with Jennifer Moss, an award-winning writer, international speaker, and workplace culture strategist with clients ranging from startups to Fortune 500 companies. Her work has inspired leaders to take a look at how they create, model, and manage work-life balance for themselves and their employees. Her most recent book, The Burnout Epidemic, was named 10 Best New Management Books for 2022 by Thinkers50 and shortlisted for the 2021 Outstanding Works of Literature Award.

Key Takeaways:

  • Saying No for the Bigger Yes: It is essential to learn how to say no to things that are not in alignment with our values and goals. To be honest with ourselves and others by expressing our no from a place of clarity of what our bigger yes is.
  • Invisible Pressure: When leaders/bosses email employees on off-work hours, it creates invisible pressure. Because so many companies have shifted to remote work, leaders need to be aware of this invisible pressure and model proper work-life balance. Also, recognizing that due to employee gender, race, sexual orientation, and other factors, by not having awareness regarding emails, meetings, and conversations, leaders can sometimes unconsciously create a culture of inequity.
  • The Difference Between Technical and Adaptive problems: Leaders need to look at the difference between psychoemotional issues, the work culture they create, and mental health as separate from systematic issues. As a leader, you can understand that you are not a mental health professional. However, it is your responsibility to be the conduit for your employees so that they have the resources for mental health. This means putting systems in place for the adaptive problems and recognizing they are separate variables to be addressed.
  • Are we Mating or Meeting: How the brain registers our interaction with others on zoom or other online meeting platforms is important to recognize. Because we are not seeing the whole person and are able to gauge the eyes, our brain is registering the interaction from an animal instinct of mating or fighting. This is problematic in ways that create defensive and aggressive behaviors that would not happen if you were meeting in person with your people.

The Necessity of Connection and Relationships in War (with Scott Mann)10 Jan 202300:47:59

Mark speaks with Scott Mann. Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) Scott Mann is a former U.S. Army Green Beret with tours all over the world,, including Colombia, Iraq, and multiple tours in Afghanistan. He is a warrior storyteller and the founder of Rooftop Leadership,, where he shares the rapport-building skills he learned in Special Forces to help today’s leaders make better human connections in high-stakes, low-trust engagements. Scott helps organizations gain a better understanding of their internal culture while exposing the potential for conflict that exists when trust has deteriorated. His recent book, Operation Pineapple Express, was an instant New York Times best seller.

Key Takeaways:

  • Leadership: The dynamics of leadership are changing. The old ways of one charismatic leader who knows what to do are shifting to groups of individuals, all understanding that they can lead together more effectively when there is a common vision and goal, mutual understanding, and collaboration.
  • Mental Clarity and Calm: The most powerful tool anyone can access in times of duress is mental clarity. When you allow your mind to settle and you take time to pause, it allows you to access your intuition and a deeper knowing of what to do.
  • Humans and Connection: The ability to make connections and build relationships across borders is a core component that stabilizes and secures stability and freedom in this country (The United States of America).
  • Veteran’s Voices: The mental health crisis in the U.S. veteran population is rising. It is important to listen to and support this population.

Your New Year03 Jan 202300:07:25
Is it Complicated or is it Complex? Dr. Jennifer Garvey Berger.27 Dec 202200:33:26

Mark speaks with Dr. Jennifer Garvey Berger. Dr. Garvey helps CEOs unleash their teams' and organizations' complexity genius.

She is the co-founder and CEO of Cultivating Leadership, where they blend deep theoretical knowledge with a driving quest for practical ways to make leaders' lives better. She coaches CEOs and their executive teams and designs and teaches high-end leadership programs.

She has written three highly acclaimed books on leadership and complexity. Jennifer's newly released book, Unleash Your Complexity Genius: growing your inner capacity to lead.

Dr. Garvey lives in the French countryside, where she bought a house with 11 friends. Putting her expertise and insights into complexity and leadership, they live in a community while focusing on what works and developing more of that while letting go of what doesn’t. Jennifer is a coach for CEOs and various high-functioning teams, helping them unleash the power of the collective and how they can all thrive as individuals while working toward common goals. One of the fundamental questions Dr. Berger asks is how do we recognize the complexity and then work with it and harness it in some ways to create the lives we want to lead.

Key Takeaways:

Looking at Patterns to Inform Actions: When we acknowledge that complexity exists within our relationships and the external world, we can lead with that awareness. One of the ways to enact positive change is to notice the patterns are working and focus on how to do more of that, as well as noticing any patterns that don’t work and leading our way through complexity together.

Working with Complexity, Not Against It: It is essential to ask how we can work with complexity instead of against it. Using the metaphor of a wave, You can’t jump in a wave without getting wet. With the knowledge of the wetness of the wave, then you can ask, how do I work with the waves and do something cool with what's here? This makes any complex problem a different task and, in many ways, much simpler. We need to recognize complexity, work with it, and harness it in some ways to create the lives we want to lead.

Looking at Complexity as a Collective: To address complexities such as environmental concerns, human rights, and global politics it is important to recognize how we, as a collective, function. Once we can see the complexity within the collective, we can start to address how we as a collective can function better and better over time. In relationships, organizations, and communities, it is important to create the conditions for people to build strong bonds and trust one another. When people are bonded and trust each other, they can activate those things that make humans awesome at addressing and acting towards and within complexity.

Leadership and Environment: A leader’s job is to amplify the conditions where people can be diverse, individual, imperfect, creative, and energized in the workplace. Leadership is recognizing the individuals and cultivating something unique that each person brings to the group.

Eco-Psychology and the Evolution of Humanity (with Loraine Van Tuyl)20 Dec 202200:51:40

Mark speaks with Dr. Loraine Van Tuyl an eco-psychologist who specializes in helping people understand the multidimmensional aspects of their mind, body, and hearts.

Dr. Van Tuyl is an author, speaker, and guide who has worked with high power leaders, stressed out CEO’s, empaths, and experts of all kinds.

Her books include The Amazon Wisdom Keeper, and her self-help book and Soul Authority: Liberatory Tools to Heal from Oppressive Patterns and Restore Trust in Your Heart Compass.

Key Takeaways:

  • Positive Change is Happening: There is a collective awakening happening and there are many more positive shifts happening both individually and socially.

  • Eco-Psychology: Leaning into the ancient teachings of earth, fire, water, and air is a great way to understand our psychology better. We can learn how to find balance if we know which elements are dominant in our system as well as which ones are out of balance.

  • Trees Teach us about our own Nervous System: Spending time with nature and connecting to its teachings can help us unravel trauma and learn how to find our natural relaxed state centered in the parasympathetic nervous system.

  • Countering Epidemic Narcism by Teaching People to Lead with Heart First: Connecting to your sacred truth, and personal and soul boundaries you can then lead with your heart. Once you have got the heart informing the mind and actions then it counters the epidemic narcissism that we can all do in this modern world. Getting our ego mind informed by the heart is vital to living in alignment with your soul authority.

He served as a consultant and mental development for professional sports teams, some of the top teams in the world, and his writing has appeared in Outside, Runner's World, Forbes, Sports Illustrated, Men's Health, and others.

Steve ran a 4.01 mile, which was the fastest in the country at the time, and the sixth fastest in US history today

Steve believes that everyone has a unique limit regarding personal performance. He encourages his clients to explore those limits by training Steve specializes in cross-domain thinking, weaving together ideas from athletics, business, and psychology to better understand performance in all aspects of life.

Key Takeaways:

  • Integration is Key: When training for Peak Performance it is important to train all 5 Mountains. The Body, Mind, Emotions, Intuition, and Spirit. The foundational physical or mental movements of any sport or boardroom must be trained daily. Knowing your inner landscape is important to perform at the top. To do this you must have a healthy body and know your mind.

  • How to Find the Middle Path: Put yourself in challenging situations. Do this when you are centered and healthy. This way you can find a new edge of navigating discomfort and chaos. If you don’t perform at your best in the challenging situation you have consciously put yourself in, you now have new information about where you need to train to get closer to the limit of your capabilities. There is no failure, just learning, and growth.

  • Mental Toughness is Learning to Relax: Mental Toughness is not about Grit and muscling through an event. The best athletes and most successful entrepreneurs have learned how to relax and engage in narrow and big-picture focus in intense and high-stress moments.
  • Utilize your Intuition: In our society, we are taught to lead with mind and practical information. Getting in tune with how intuition can inform the next action is important. That is what flow state is; a combination of knowledge, experience, and intuition all coming together to inform each subtle and gross action.

Kind By Design (with Mauro Porcini)21 Nov 202200:43:49

Mark speaks with Mauro Porcini, PepsiCo’s first ever Chief Design Officer and the author of the timely book—both manifesto and memoir—called The Human Side of Innovation: The Power of People in Love with People. Together we explore the important call to prioritize human-centered design and innovation when it is most at risk.

Today, Commander Divine speaks with Mauro Porcini, PepsiCo’s first ever Chief Design Officer and the author of the timely book—both manifesto and memoir—called The Human Side of Innovation: The Power of People in Love with People. In the episode, Mauro makes the call to prioritize human-centered design and innovation when it is most at risk. In a constantly changing world, Mauro stands for human-centered design to maintain our human nature in business and life.

Key Takeaways:

Love at work builds collaboration & efficiency. Mauro describes how kindness at work decreases redundant tasks. Specifically, many people spend countless moments trying to avoid sabotage and back-stabbing by overcompensating and looking over their shoulders. When kindness is at the forefront, time and energy are saved - and business gets done quicker, with more ease and happiness.

One page, 24 qualities of leadership. If you don’t read the book, Mauro recommends you simply pick up the book and turn to the one page that lists all 24 of his main qualities of leadership. Try these out in your own life, and watch your success and your organization soar.

Design thinking vs. design. Mauro shares the difference between design thinking and design in and of itself, sharing how many designers go to school for design and forget everything they learned regarding the design thinking process. Every design thinking organization needs designers. But not all designers are naturally design thinkers. The three design thinking pillars. Design, Strategy, Prototype as the way of the future in life, business, politics, and beyond. Mauro advocates for design thinking as the ideal way to address any problem to find the most effective solution.
