Iesah Hunter is the everyday mom.  Juggling the responsibilities of motherhood, being a woman (a Black woman!) attempting to carve out space for herself when she can, as well as laying the framework for her creative focuses as an author, producer and writer, she proves over and over just how amazing the Black woman is.  Her words in Purge and Bless: Truth, Lies and Dreams set the focus on healing and embracing oneself throughout their journey in life.  Additionally, you can find her fingerprints of her storytelling on the web series, Tollbooth, which details the story of a woman leaving New York City after losing her father to return to Maryland.  

 
As my second guest in my series spotlighting amazing Black women in our community creating lanes for themselves and others, Iesah is known to her friends and family as a warm soul full of wisdom and wit.  Her vulnerabilities and experiences, whether good or bad, she wears them as a badge.  She does not shy from them as she moves through this life figuring out the world for herself and for her beautiful daughter, Eden, in a way that’s so captivating and inspiring I had to have her on the show.  We are so thankful for her and to have her on this episode.

On the third installment of The Major Movement Podcast, we welcome my first guest and long time friend, Irnande Altema!  Irnande is not only an accomplished scholar with experiences in politics and mental health advocacy, she is the author behind, "The Rise of a  First Gen" which journeys the struggles and successes of a first-generation American determined to rise. 

While sharing her motivations and inspirations for creating First Gen Rise, Irnande brings light to the current political climate with the recent victories for President-elect Biden and Vice President-elect Harris, the ongoing mental health disparities facing Black Americans during the pandemic, and a glimpse into her future plans for the new year.
