Male Contraception

Season 1 · Episode 3

lundi 18 janvier 2021Duration 40:54

This episode is all about THE BOYS. Here at The Lowdown we spend a lot of time talking to women and experts about The Pill, the coil and the injection. But this time we wanted to deep dive into a topic so many people ask us about - male contraception.

This episode looks at who’s making them, how methods like the Male Contraceptive gel work, and why it’s taken so long to get us to this point.

Alice talks to Dr John Renolds-Wright - a Clinical Research Fellow who is currently conducting trials on the male contraceptive gel at the University of Edinburgh. We also hear from Logan Nickels and Kevin Shane from The Male Contraceptive Initiative - which is a non-profit based in North Carolina, focussed on moving male contraception forward.

Combined Pill

Season 1 · Episode 2

jeudi 20 août 2020Duration 46:05

In this episode we’ll be talking about the most reviewed method of contraception at The Lowdown - the Combined Pill.

We will hear from Professor John Guillebaud - about why we’ve been taking the Pill all wrong, and why we should be taking our pill packets continuously.

Alice will then be speaking to our lovely GP Dr Fran Yarlett who’ll help us understand how the Pill works and why it’s so popular, and whether GP’s just want to give you the cheapest option. The Lowdown's team member Holly will also be joining the conversation and will be sharing her experiences of being on Microgynon for 13 years.

Throughout the episode we’ll be sharing the data and insights we've collected at theldown.com to give you a heads up on the pros, cons and side effects of this method of contraception.

Hormonal coil (IUS)

Season 1 · Episode 1

vendredi 19 juin 2020Duration 47:18

In this first episode of The Lowdown’s podcast - you’ll find out everything you need to know about the Hormonal coil (IUS).

Our Co-Founder Alice talks to Edinburgh based GP Dr Rachel Cooper, on how she fits them. And her good friend Rose on what it’s like to have one.

Alice shares the data and insights we’ve collected at theldown.com to give you a heads up on the pros, cons and side effects of this method of contraception. You’ll also find out who can have a Hormonal coil, and how to make getting one fitted more comfortable.

Whether you’re looking to start or change your contraception, or you’re interested in learning more about the 16 methods and over 60 brands available, this show is the place for you.
