Sardar Udham - Free-market Film Analysis

Season 1 · Episode 203

lundi 15 novembre 2021Duration 01:24:36

Tonight we talk about a not well-known atrocity in India as told in the biopic "Sardar Udham".  This was a recommendation by a few folks who commented on some of our videos and it is a doozy.

The great Jared Wall of Breaking Liberty and other projects joins us to discuss.

Also, tune it for a half-announcement of sorts where we reveal some things that need to be sorted. Sort of.

Beetlejuice - Free-market Film Analysis

Season 1 · Episode 202

lundi 8 novembre 2021Duration 59:02

We hit a stretch-goal of yet another horror film as we bleed into November as we review "Beetlejuice" with James Jenneman of the Blackbird Podcast.

Released in 1988, this is Tim Burton is his element with a star-making turn by Michael Keaton as the titular character.  With Geena Davis, Alec Baldwin, and Winona Ryder, this is a fun film that is parts funny, parts horror, and parts bizarre.

It’s showtime!

We’ll be back next year with a movie suggested to us by several YouTube commenters as our friend, Jared Wall joins us to do “Sardar Udham” which is a real-life revenge story about atrocities by the British Empire in India.

Salvador - Free-market Film Analysis

Season 1 · Episode 193

lundi 6 septembre 2021Duration 01:07:32

The great, Pete Quinones returns for only his second non-Kevin Costner movie and we delve into some vintage James Woods and talk about “Salvador” directed by Oliver Stone.

Salvador was based on an autobiography of an American photojournalist played by James Woods who was on his uppers, he went to El Salvador with his best friend played by Jim Belushi.

We see what happens with an adventurous foreign policy that creates losers and villians on all sides.

Pete recommended this one and will have plenty to say.

Join us next week as we shift into more family-friendly fare with a review of “Newsies” with Abby Cleckner, who is a friend of frequent guest Dr. Dennis Foster and thus a listener of the show.

It's a Wonderful Life - Free-market Film Analysis

Season 1 · Episode 103

lundi 23 décembre 2019Duration 59:54

Merry Christmas!  Our pal Mike C. joins us to get in on a little Jimmy Stewart flick called, “It’s A Wonderful Life.”  We'll get into over this one as we have a sneaking suspicion that Robert doesn't like this one.  We'll make sure to ring that bell so some wings get redistributed properly.

We get into all sorts of discussions about the market and how it serves people better and at varying levels of quality and price.  We talk about bank runs and how they are a check on poor policy and we also discuss how kindness begets kindness and how treating your fellow man as you would like to be treated makes the world a better place.  Not to mention my side-quest into Ancient Aliens and the Pyramid Code.  This is a fun one.

Join us next week as Raylene Lightheart returns for a New Year's movie, "When Harry Met Sally".

Gremlins - Free-market Film Analysis

Season 1 · Episode 102

lundi 16 décembre 2019Duration 01:03:32

A movie that will kick off that Christmas spirit, "Gremlins". Our guest is Rocky Ferrenburg and we'll be sure to keep him dry so he stays fuzzy and cute.  Is it more Christmas than Die Hard?  We hash it out.

A gadget salesman is looking for a special gift for his son and finds one at a store in Chinatown. The shopkeeper is reluctant to sell him the `mogwai' but sells it to him with the warning to never expose him to bright light, water, or to feed him after midnight. All of this happens and the result is a gang of gremlins that decide to tear up the town on Christmas Eve.

We also get into some of the anti-capitalist messaging at the heart of this aimless Christmas-filled flick.

Hit us up next week as our pal Mike C. joins us to get in on a little Jimmy Stewart flick called, "It's A Wonderful Life."

lundi 2 décembre 2019Duration 01:11:00

Cast Away - Free-market Film Analysis

Season 1 · Episode 99

lundi 25 novembre 2019Duration 58:53

We tackle "Cast Away" for our Thanksgiving episode this year as Tom Hanks' final words in the film are "Thank you".  We want to express our gratitude for our listeners and the abundance afforded us by the vestiges of capitalism that raise the standard of living so that luxuries of the past are taken for granted in the present.

Our guest is Keith Knight of “Don’t Tread on Anyone” and “Liberty Weekly”.  This guy can talk a mile a minute, so we’ll try to keep up.

They Shall Not Grow Old - Free-market Film Analysis

Season 1 · Episode 97

lundi 11 novembre 2019Duration 01:05:56

We commemorate the 101st anniversary of the armistice marking cease-fire and the end to hostilities in the Great War, now known as World War I, as it, unfortunately, set the table for a 2nd conflict that was even larger and now featured nazis and communists.

Peter Jackson's documentary-take on the conflict in "They Shall Not Grow Old" which is a bringing-to-life account of the footage that is over 100 years old, with interviews from about 50 years ago mated with modern technology to bring vibrancy and color to the footage to bring a never-before-experienced look at the horrors of the Great War.

Our pal, Mike C. joins us for the discussion as our stars went out alignment with Jeff Deist of the Mises Institute who is running an event with Ron Paul this weekend.  You can view that event here (the Scott Horton talk ties right into our discussion, but they are all excellent):  https://youtu.be/IgoEFSrRnds

We will be back next week to discuss the Breaking Bad movie, "El Camino" with Jared Wall of Breaking Liberty.
