| My Pivot Became a Twirl (LOL) | 20 Jul 2026 | 00:20:05 | |
Last fall, I knew something had to change in the way my agency delivered ongoing marketing services. With AI infiltrating everything, it felt like the next, somewhat unnatural step to include an AI element in my service offering and turn the whole thing into an app for client convenience. What ensued after implementing these changes led to me no longer wanting to run my business because it didn't fit ME anymore. Plus, the new way of doing things didn't seem to fit my clients that well, either. I was STRESSED and depressed professionally in a way I'd never been in twelve years of running this agency. I even contacted a business broker to consider selling the entire thing. Dramatic? Maybe, but also relatable. Here's what happened, why it went wrong, and how I found peace with a surprisingly simple solution. In short, my entrepreneurial pivot became a twirl. 💃 Music License: ETBBOL01VSWDLAL4_Garden of the Fae 📌 Timestamps 0:00 Introduction 3:44 The Issue and Business Challenges 4:25 The Outcome 7:32 The Twirl: Simplifying the Business Model 10:27 Implementing the New Marketing Plan 17:23 Lessons Learned from the Pivot
| Better SEO Alone Doesn't Mean More Clients | 06 Jul 2026 | 00:25:50 | |
If your website has better SEO, you should be getting more clients...right? Not necessarily. The space between SEO and actually making your client feel seen is the most overlooked marketing gap that you need to bridge, and the sooner the better. Both search engines and AI models are matching their users with results based on need and intent. If your website matches their needs and intent, not just explains your services to death, your business will be surfaced more often. Today, I'm sharing how you can make a simple shift in how you talk about your business that will make a profound difference in whether someone who lands on your site simply leaves or actually stays to fill out your contact form. | Luxury is Redefining Itself & Rebranding Isn't the Solution | 15 Jun 2026 | 00:21:07
Has anyone of influence in your life ever insisted that you rebrand your business as part of a growth strategy? Or, perhaps you've considered it on your own. After all, a gorgeous logo and thoughtful color palette are useful for attracting clients, right? Wrong. Pretty things attract people who like pretty things, not necessarily people who want to pay you the big bucks - and that's the end of it. If your business is experiencing a lack of clients, a rebrand won't make draw them in - and has actually proven to backfire. The good news: You just need to reposition what you currently have. Today on The Kate Show, I'm walking you through the rebrand fiascos of giant, well-known companies so that we all can learn from their mistakes. Furthermore, I'm sharing how the luxury client is redefining "luxury" itself and what that means for the future of your high-end design, organizing, or staging business. | Maximize Your Google Business Profile Amidst Google's March 2026 Core Update | 01 Jun 2026 | 00:21:34
Most of us aren't using Google Business correctly. In fact, Google's Core Update in March of 2026 penalized a significant number of local business listings for making several key mistakes. Most notably? Keyword stuffing. But that isn't all - websites were impacted as well, namely, thin or low-quality (often AI-generated with no obvious human oversight) content resulted in ranking downgrades. In today's episode, I'm sharing hands-on, practical ways you can improve your Google Business listing IN MINUTES while avoiding penalization. I also tackle the nagging question, "What should I do if my business doesn't have a physical location and I want my home address kept private?" And also, "What should I do if Google insists I include an address?" And the biggest one of all: "I'm scared that crazy clients will write bad, untrue reviews, but I know I should still have a Google Business profile. What should I do?" | Tastemaker vs. Order Taker: Which one are you? | 26 Jan 2026 | 00:22:45
Order takers get bullied by clients. Their clients ask for discounts, are late to pay, and see the professional (YOU) as their assistant rather than as their trusted professional. To make matters worse, as the order taker, you are naturally more focused on the sale rather than the client outcome. If you aren't intentionally branding yourself as a tastemaker, you are an order taker. | Are Leads Ghosting You After the Proposal? Do this. | 04 Aug 2025 | 00:24:56
Does this story sound familiar? A homeowner contacted you and seemed like a great fit. You spoke to them on a Discovery Call, which led to a paid onsite consultation where you discussed budgets, timelines, and their needs and wants. Awesome! You went back to your office positively elated, put together the proposal, and sent it to them. And then...they ghosted you. They won't respond to your emails. They won't call you. A month later they might reach out - to say no to the project. "It's not a good fit right now." "It's more than we wanted to spend." Or to quote the people-pleasers, "We might reach out again in a few months." (But will you, Karen? Really?) You are frustrated and discouraged. The proposal aligned with what they said they wanted to spend. What went wrong? Today on The Kate Show, I'm explaining why leads keep ghosting you and how to prevent it from happening again. | Bad SEO Advice Gone Wrong: Client Horror Stories | 07 Jul 2025 | 00:27:18
Remember this: If someone is offering website design but not SEO (which always includes copywriting, because where else would those keywords come from?), the end result is not a complete website. If this describes you, don’t freak out. Here’s a quick way to know whether your website has proper onsite SEO that will help you be found in Google. What is SEO? Search engine optimization, or SEO, determines how highly ranked your website is in search results. It’s a combination of copywriting / keywords, loading speed, and user experience. Copywriting for SEO: Your headlines should contain keywords that are specific to your services, location, and / or ideal client. Most headlines are too vague, which is a shame, because that is the first thing Google and humans will read. Also, copywriting must first and foremost highlight your ideal client and their pain points, then provide a solution (your services). This is a great way to naturally use the right keywords in your body text. Images for SEO: Every image on your website should be compressed to around 500 kb or less. Each image file name should be changed to contain the service provided, the location of the project, and the type of project. For example, a file name could be “interior designer Charleston modern white navy kitchen remodel.” User experience for SEO: Basically, this refers to the design of your site. Your home page should contain these key 11 elements. Your about page should include your first-person bio. Testimonials should be sprinkled throughout the site. Your services page should list no more than three offerings. What about Google Ads? Long story short, your website SHOULD be bringing you clients without relying on paid ads. If you have a great site and good SEO but still no leads, you still have options to help fix that organically. “Uh oh, I don’t think my last website was designed with SEO in mind…” Timestamps: 0:00 The Issue of Luxury Branding Experts Advising Against Copywriting and SEO 3:04 Basics of SEO and Copywriting 6:14 Images and User Experience for SEO 7:21 Google Ads and Organic Traffic 10:49 Client Email on Conflicting Advice About the Importance of Copywriting and SEO 20:08 SEO Stats and Best Practices 23:48 Effectiveness of Email Marketing 25:43 Challenges with Luxury Branding Experts 26:32 Final Thoughts

| Pricing Strategies - and why you need one | 02 Jun 2025 | 00:29:23 | |
If you were hoping for an episode that tells you exactly how much you should be charging for your design, staging, or organizing services... This isn't it. It's next level. Once you've worked out your pricing with your business advisor, bookkeeper, or someone else who understands your business financials as well - if not better - than you do, the next step is to select a pricing strategy, not merely set a price and call it a day. However, did you know that juxtaposing multiple pricing packages can make one package look better than the other - but it's often causing you to sell something you don't want more of? For example, did you know that charging a flat rate versus an hourly rate has a certain stigma attached to it? And did you know that you can influence whether people will feel delight at your proposal or utter sticker shock and betrayal just by the pricing strategy you choose? The right pricing strategy removes the pressure to offer a "better deal" than your competitors because you are instead able to position yourself as the BETTER FIT for your ideal clients - a total boss move. | Why Your Ideal Clients Can't Find You and how to fix that | 19 May 2025 | 00:35:22
As an interior designer, stager, organizer, or window pro, you have an ideal client, and you likely know who that person is. The problem I often see, however, is that your marketing rarely states point-blank who that person is, nor are you services being presented as a solution that is truly tailored to THEM. This means that no matter how clearly you know your ideal client, they don't know you, and therefore they won't understand why they should hire you versus your competitor. Today on The Kate Show, we are going beyond discovering your ideal client and diving into the SIMPLE WAY TO SPEAK DIRECTLY TO THEM so that you can actually start working on their projects. | Afraid to Niche Down? Here's what happens when you do | 05 May 2025 | 00:18:50
Having worked with so many home industry businesses over the last decade, I often see the same problem at the root of all struggling interior designers, stagers, organizers, etc. THEY HAVE NO CLEAR NICHE. Some are resistant, fearing they'll lose business (even though they barely have any to lose) if they narrow down their focus. Others would LOVE to have a niche but don't know where to start or what having a niche even means. Today on The Kate Show Podcast, I'm sharing a few client stories to show you what is possible when you create a specialty around your brand, and how to make it happen. Resources You'll Love

| I Deleted My Business Social Media | 21 Apr 2025 | 00:26:14 | |
I started 2025 knowing that a few things needed to end in my business (even though innovation and invention are SOOO intoxicating!). Instead, I had a feeling that God was calling me to shut down several things. At the time, I wasn't sure why, but it has become clear that He intended to trim wasted time and effort from the agency, while increasing the value of client relationships. Pretty genius stuff, actually. Today on the podcast, I'm sharing the impact that deleting social media is having on my business. In place of social media, I created a non-business mailing list entitled "Just Kate," where I connect with my email subscribers in a much more personal way once or twice per month. If you'd like to join that list, go to www.katethesocialite.com/just-kate. You can expect things like silly stories about my kids, photos of my family, my politically incorrect rants, what I'm currently struggling with (it's always something), life hacks that I've only just learned (because apparently I've been living under a rock), and of course, pregnancy / baby updates. Basically, it's girl talk in your inbox. Go to www.katethesocialite.com/just-kate to get on the list. Resources You'll Love

| Laughable Marketing Tips that you should ignore | 17 Mar 2025 | 00:25:27 | |
It isn't often that I'm confronted with marketing advice that is just SO wrong that it's hilarious. And I am immediately sobered by the fact that I have seen my own clients' businesses harmed by following such advice. "I was paying this coach thousands of dollars, so I thought she knew what she was talking about," is a statement my returning clients have made a little too often. Let me be clear, business coaches are not marketing professionals. And marketing pros are NOT business coaches. I've been asked to provide coaching numerous times. I will always continue to say no. Why? Because merely running one or two successful businesses doesn't qualify me - or anyone else - to be a coach. And being a business or branding coach doesn't mean they know anything about marketing. This topic is pretty personal to me. I've read too many sad emails from my clients who were given advice that resulted in one of their worst, least profitable years in business. Harmful advice such as... "Stop blogging and email marketing. That is just for newbies." (No one is above marketing or consistent client communication.) "You need to sound more elevated." (No, you just need to align with your ICA better, be personable, and talk to them consistently. See the first point.) "Rebranding would solve your revenue problems." (This is a bandaid approach that costs YOU time and money without addressing the actual financial problem.) | Black Hat vs. White Hat SEO - and why most home pros are getting it wrong | 03 Mar 2025 | 00:23:13
As the owner of an interior design, staging, organizing, or window treatment business, you've likely had a few thoughts about your SEO. You might have even hired someone to work on it. But what if you haven't been getting increased website traffic after months of paying for that work? Or what if you WERE getting traffic and it suddenly dropped off the face of the earth? If that describes your situation, your website might be using black hat SEO, and as the owner of the business, you need to get that fixed as soon as possible. Today on The Kate Show, I'm sharing the difference between black hat and white hat SEO, the dangers of using black hat tactics, and how to know if those tactics were used on your website. | Social Media Is Changing - Is It a Good Way to Market Your Services Now? | 17 Feb 2025 | 00:21:37
You open Instagram and start scrolling, realizing with more than a little guilt that you haven't posted anything for your own business in AGES. Many of my new clients experience some or all of these fears:

| Most Effective Email Marketing Topics - And When to Send Them | 03 Feb 2025 | 00:28:21 | |
The biggest question I get asked by new clients to my agency is, "Which newsletter topic should I send first?" While there is no singular right answer, often a good place to start is with an official welcome email. But if you're new to the realm of marketing, you might first be asking, "Why even bother with email? Isn't email archaic? I don't even read my own emails!" That's a great question, so we are going to start the discussion by going over some stats so that you can make an informed decision on whether to use email marketing to grow your business. After that, we'll go over best email marketing practices, and I'll share some amazing stories of my clients who raked in 6 and 7 figures, just from sending email newsletters. | The Two Types of Bios You Need & How to Write Them | 20 Jan 2025 | 00:21:10
The most painful part about marketing (aside from wondering, "Is this EVER going to work?") is talking about yourself. Or, as my clients sometimes phrase it, "Putting myself out there." Let's talk about that idea for a minute. Putting yourself out there, as though you are an object on the shelf for anyone to look at and snatch up, is awkward, and rightfully so. Good marketing has NOTHING to do with putting yourself out there and EVERYTHING to do with finding common ground with your ideal client. If you work with homeowners who are one or two income brackets above yourself, you might think that finding common ground is a joke. You don't own three homes - but you're sure glad they do! But finding common ground doesn't look like that. Common ground looks like you specializing in a certain type of client or project, and that client or someone with that project being attracted to you for that reason. Your common ground is something YOU CREATE - your desire matches their desire, but you actually have a way to reach their goal...and they don't. One of the best ways to illustrate your common ground is to integrate it into your about page page AND your home page / media bio. Today on The Kate Show, I'm sharing outlines for both of these bios so that you can more effectively establish common ground with your affluent ideal client and start earning their trust sooner. | Why Super Successful Home Pros Don't Reinvent Their Marketing Every Year | 06 Jan 2025 | 00:27:57
Without fail, the start of a new year makes many business owners (especially in the home industry) feel like they need to start over with their business management or marketing in some way. As a marketer with over a decade of experience in marketing design, staging, etc., businesses...I call bull crap. The most successful home industry businesses are those that have simple marketing strategies and focus only a few key areas...and are consistent with that SAME PLAN year over year. Should you assess last year's marketing efforts? Absolutely, but sometimes even a year isn't long enough to properly test or assess a marketing strategy. For example, all the blog posts you published last year could gain even more traction NEXT YEAR. All the email marketing you did last year has been priming the amazing lead who is about to contact you with her new project....6 months from now. Marketing in the home industry is a long game because the projects tend to be bigger, take longer, and require significant investment. If you go into marketing with this perspective, rather than expecting fast results with minimal effort, your business is going to stick around. Today on The Kate Show, I'm sharing the key ways that established and profitable businesses in the home industry market themselves. | How to Remove Negativity & Weakness from Your Marketing | 18 Nov 2024 | 00:28:23
Emotions were meant to season our decisions, not dictate them. "Follow your heart," has got to be one of the most damaging pieces of business / life advice....like, ever. Frustratingly, many entrepreneurs are led into a negative emotional spiral when marketing their businesses, especially in the home industry - largely due to longer lead conversion cycles and higher project costs. Today on The Kate Show Podcast, I'm diving into the key phrases you need to REMOVE from every facet of your marketing - stat - to better equate your brand with high value, high trust, and high positivity. Consider it an end-of-year deep cleaning routine for your brand. This will help you start the new year so fresh and clean, letting your ideal clients develop the right impression about your brand, one that doesn't lead them down a path of negativity. Why does this matter? Because positive emotions will elicit trust, and trust will lead to more confident clients, and confident clients will be happy to invest with you. | 5 Signs You're Marketing Correctly and How to Know if You Aren't | 04 Nov 2024 | 00:29:30
You've just spent all year marketing your business - or trying to - and before you dive into a new year, you're probably wanting to know if you've been on the right track. I know I would! Today on The Kate Show Podcast, I'm sharing the 5 things you should be looking at to appropriately grade your marketing over the last year: Did you stay top-of-mind with leads, past clients, and colleagues every month? In what ways? What measurable impact have you recorded? If you weren't able to track any results, pause. This is literally the most important action step. Without it, you aren't marketing. You're just guessing. Pro tip: Monthly mass emails (newsletters) are statistically the most effective, low-cost way to stay top-of-mind. No algorithm, and no daily content to create. brilliant, beautiful, and simple. Did you land at least three new referral sources (individuals, businesses, or organizations)? This often happens via in-person socializing or job site connections. If you have made new connections, ask one of them to do an Audience Swap with you in the new year. Did you upload new photos of your work to your website at least once last year? This means you should be taking your own photos or getting it done. Photos should be a priority. Did you post updates on your Google Business listing (GBL) at least every quarter? This is assuming your GBL is already set up and completely filled out. Did you set up Google Analytics and connect it to your website? This is the best way to know whether your website traffic has increased and why. Saying "I FEEL like I'm not getting enough traffic," is always the wrong answer. Analytics are concrete evidence. Feelings should not dictate your marketing decisions. If you answered "no" to any of these, you have your marketing plan for 2025. | Flodesk & Mailchimp Marketing Templates for Home Pros | 09 Sep 2024 | 00:27:21
Would your marketing get done faster if someone else did half (or more) of the work for you? Of course! That's why my agency has been offering marketing templates (and template customization services) since 2016. But recently, we did a new thing. Well, two things. Number 1: WE LAUNCHED 350+ FLODESK EMAIL TEMPLATES! Whew, it was a ton of work. (Thank you to my amazing content manager, Natasha!!) Every template includes text and images that you can use to market your interior design, home staging, organizing, or window treatment business. To be honest, half of our clients use the content as-is...and still get results from it. The other half works with us directly to further customize the templates, resulting in high-end marketing that requires specific yet minimal involvement from THEM, the home pro entrepreneur. Today on The Kate Show Podcast, I'm pulling back the curtain (the drapery?) on the massive amount of marketing templates we offer and how you can use them. Plus, I'm giving you an early look at our new templates for Mailchimp. Because GUYS...this brings me to my second announcement: We found a way to MAKE MAILCHIMP TEMPLATES LOOK LIKE FLODESK. Say whaaaat?! You won't find these pretty, feminine Mailchimp email templates anywhere else. I looked high and low for Mailchimp newsletter templates that weren't created in Canva (because that makes the entire newsletter an image, which often won't show up in inboxes - gulp). When I couldn't find anything pretty enough to help interior designers and similar pros with their marketing, I decided to create my own. We have the written content. YEARS WORTH. But I was sick of stale Mailchimp templates that were quickly being overshadowed by fresh, new, young Flodesk. That problem has been solved, and I can't wait to reveal the gorgeous plug-and-play templates we now offer for YOU to market your home industry business. We have massive amounts of templates for Flodesk, Mailchimp, and Canva. If you want to see what I'm talking about, watch The Kate Show on Spotify or YouTube. | PR & Media Opportunities: 5 Steps for Creating Your Own | 05 Aug 2024 | 00:26:06
How do home pros like you get featured, published, or promoted by bigger brands and entities? They make themselves marketable, ask for or create their own opportunities, and most importantly, they pursue an ongoing relationship with the entities that feature them. Making yourself marketable (meaning, making it easier for OTHER people to talk about YOU) is different than marketing your business, and doing this is essential in order to then ask for or create your own PR and media opportunities. If you want to be proactive in the brand exposure and media coverage that your interior design, staging, window treatment, or organizing business receives, this is the episode for you. You don't have to be an influencer, nor must you have been in business for years and years, in order to make this method work for you. If you are a go-getter and love to think outside the box, you might be surprised where the method I'm sharing today will take you. Using this method, I've landed several key media and PR opportunities for my own brand, namely: being featured by Brainz Magazine and recognized as a Top 500 global entrepreneur, becoming an educator and paid speaker for Honeybook, and becoming an official media partner for Squarespace and Patriot Mobile. I'm walking the talk and getting great results. You can, too! Watch The Kate Show on Spotify and YouTube or listen wherever you get your podcasts. | Mindless Marketing vs. Thought Leadership | 22 Jul 2024 | 00:28:44
How many of us push out marketing content just for the sake of being able to say we're "marketing?" I was guilty of this for years until I realized it just wasn't working. The stuff I posted on social media or sent in my mass emails or published on my blog felt too overused and generic. And it's because I hadn't become a thought leader yet. If you're ready to stop mindlessly marketing and become a thought leader in your industry, making yourself more attractive to serious leads and great clients, you're listening to the right episode. Let's do this. Subscribe to and rate this podcast wherever you're tuning in. You can watch the video version of this podcast on Spotify and YouTube. Examples of Mindless Marketing: Creating any marketing content without correlating it to your offerings or offering personal reflections (seasonal / holiday content, trendy reels, overused and DIY-focused blog posts are notorious for making this mistake) Not showing your face in photos or videos Relying too heavily on Canva graphics Running paid ads without first determining how your ideal client makes buying decisions Operating without a marketing plan, where none of your marketing efforts connect to each other or have a consistent flow Inconsistency with how often you market, your visuals, and your messagingExamples of Thought-Leadership Marketing Explaining why you care deeply about making sure your trade-of-choice is done correctly (interior design, staging, etc...) Sharing the emotional and mental impact your services have on your clients, rather than focusing on the service itself Presenting your unique cocktail of beliefs, such as a controversial real estate staging method, that makes you memorable and HONEST about why you are different A focus on making sure your clients get a great end result versus a focus on giving them what they THINK they want; what clients think they want and what they actually need are often two different things. A laser-focus on the ideal client that you serve, so that you can talk about their pain points and how you solve them Limiting where and how you market your business - and being consistent in those FEW areas.Get a free marketing calendar for your home industry biz now: https://www.katethesocialite.com/marketing-calendar
| How to Raise Your Prices without Losing Income | 08 Jul 2024 | 00:47:26 | |
As a creative, you likely struggle to figure out how much you should charge for your services. While things like interior design, organizing, or staging might feel like second nature to you, you know that other people struggle deeply to accomplish any of those things. Those people are your clients, and you are highly valuable to them. How does that factor translate into your pricing model? Plus, what if you've been undercharging for years and have finally realized it's time to raise your rates? What should your new rate be - and why? What profit margin should you aim to have? Today on the podcast I have business coach Jennifer Kok to shed light and provide a clear, simple way of thinking around how to price your services. About Our Guest Veteran business coach Jennifer Kok started her first business two days before giving birth to her second child, turned it around in the middle of a recession, and then sold the company for a profit after growing it to a national brand. She makes her experience an asset for owners looking for the next wave in their business journey. She is the founder of Next Wave Business Coaching where she is an advocate for small businesses. She helps small business owners who are in growth mode with strategy, clarity, and mindset to double digit their growth and build a sustainable business. Jennifer owned her own service based business for over 20 years, developed a nationwide brand and knows what it takes to run a fast paced successful small business while also raising a family. She now shares her expertise with multiple entrepreneurs across the country. Topics Discussed In your bio, you mentioned that you started a business merely two days before having your second baby. What was that business (and what on earth were you doing working while THAT pregnant? Haha!). Tell us the story of your various businesses and careers from that point onward. Did you ever struggle with pricing your services / products throughout your various businesses? When you sold your business, how did you determine its valuation? What is the first step an interior designer should take if she suspects that she's charging too little for her services?
