| JPRG Report Episode 191 - FF XIV Endwalker Gets a Slight Delay | 11 Nov 2021 | 00:36:34 | |
A major release gets the slightest of delays as Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker has been pushed back two backs to December 7, 2021. Various reasons were cited and I'll read some of Yoshi P's comments. Overall its a good thing as no one wants to mess up the biggest expansion in the game's long history. We didn't have a ton of things talk about this week. Game covered include Star Ocean: Divine Force, Atelier Sophie 2, the trio of new Pokemon games, and Tales of Lumunaria. I give my initial impressions of the mobile game and cover it's first update. We have some very interesting news from Falcom to discuss. You won't want to miss it and why I think it's the first step towards fixing it's western localizations problems. Next two weeks will be Wednesday releases! Please consider funding the show via Patreon or the Anchor link at the bottom of the description. | JRPG Report Episode 190 - The Cruel King and the Great Hero Comes West | 04 Nov 2021 | 00:37:40
Its a light week so only a few stories to share on this episode. We start with some release dates including The Cruel King and the Great Hero coming west in March 2022. Also making the trip across the oceans is Maglam Lord, a title we weren't sure was coming or not. Tales of Luminaria releases today but had a slight delay to November 5th so I'll give my impressions next week. I talk a little about the recent partnership between Sega and Microsoft and what it might mean moving forward. In the end I'll give my final thoughts on Tales of Arise since I finally beat the game. Did my opinion change from the beginning? How does it rank against other Tales games? Is it JRPG of 2021? Stick around to the very end to find out! | JRPG Report Episode 189 - Star Ocean 6: The Divine Force in 2022! | 28 Oct 2021 | 00:49:14
In a completely unexpected and welcome annoucement, Star Ocean is back! And coming next year to all platforms (sorry Switch.) During the most recent State of Play, the series I thought was dead, made a splash and left quite the impression. I'll detail everything we know as well as my impressions from the trailer. Of course that wasn't the only news of the week. We have stories about Tales of Luminaria's release date, a new trailer for Triangle Strategy, lots of Tales news, the Blue Reflection 2nd Light demo, Final Fantasy V Pixel Remaster release date, and the departure from Atlus of its main music composer. It's that time of year! When I take a much needed vacation and leave you all with a mailbag show. Only a few submissions this time but they were excellent questions. | JRPG Report Episode 184 - Persona Celebrates 25 Years | 23 Sep 2021 | 00:37:03
What's your favorite Persona game? Atlus is celebrating 25 years of memories over the next few months. It's begun now with a special website launched along with merchandise and hopefully a new game. I'll go over what we know so far. Seems like every major franchise is celebrating an anniversary lately. The Atelier series is also celebrating 25 years in May of next year with 6 new announcements, not all necessarily games. The first is coming in a week at TGS, more than likely Atelier Sophie 2. Not a ton to talk about the week before TGS. Final Fantasy XIV released news and a new trailer ahead of its Endwalker expansion. Monster Hunter Rise will allow you change your mount into Rush from Mega Man soon! We go over the last of the lineup news before the show. Keep in mind next week's podcast will be on Friday to better cover the start of Tokyo Game Show 2021. Looking forward to a great event! | JRPG Report Episode 183 - Renne's Return | 16 Sep 2021 | 00:57:08
It's a jam packed and nearly hour long show this week full of information, rumors, and opinions. The latter two reserved for the end. Here's some of the game news we have: The Legend of Heroes: Kuro no Kiseki, Tales of Arise and Monark. I'll give my thoughts on the opening hours of Arise, and wrap up the podcast with my thoughts on its DLC. We do have one rumor early in show: what Koei Tecmo's mystery title at TGS maybe, according to a new game register. More Tokyo Game Show 2021 details and lineups have emerged, including Square Enix and Bandai Namco. Two cool features in particular are a part of the new system updates for Switch and PS5. I give my reaction to the games shown at the recent Playstation Showcase (sadly no JRPGs). And let's talk about the NVIDIA database leak. So many games on the list, I'll mention them all but focus on the ones that matter most to us, in particular Chrono Cross Remaster. | JRPG Report Episode 182 - Tales of Arise Launches | 09 Sep 2021 | 00:29:06
It's the perfect combination of short news week, and hectic personal week. That equals short podcast. The big news of the week is obviously the launch of Tales of Arise tomorrow. Will it live up to the hype? There were a few stories to cover including a western release for Neptunia x Senran Kagura: Ninja Wars on October 26 in North America. I wasn't 100% sure we'd even get this game, let alone 6 weeks after its Japanese release. We've got a few mobile JRPG's to talk about, and there was a new trailer for SMT V. Disgaea celebrates 5 million games sold with a sale on its games so don't miss that. Not a ton else but there will just be weeks like this sometimes. Thanks for listening as always my friends. | JRPG Report Episode 181 - Tokyo Game Show 2021 Preview | 02 Sep 2021 | 00:53:54
Less than a month until TGS 2021, we have the outline of events for the show. I'll go down the list, highlight the big moments, and speculate what we might see. Always the highlight of the JRPG year, let's hope for a great event! We've got news from SMT V about its characters and systems. Demon Gaze EXTRA has a release date, and surprise it's a worldwide one. Final Fantasy titles are coming to Playstation Now as FF XIII hits Xbox Gamepass. I've got first details about a new game coming to PC in Q1 2022: Rise of the Third Power. The retro looking title is another love letter to SNES JRPG's and looks very interesting. Curious what exactly is in Prinny Presents NIS Classics Volume 1? I read a great article from Siliconera all about the two PS2 classics included. Lastly I have two interviews with the teams behind Tales of Luminaria and the Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters. Leave us a 5 star review on Apple and I'll read it on an upcoming podcast! | JRPG Report Episode 180 - Monster Rancher 1 & 2 DX Coming Worldwide December 9, 2021 | 26 Aug 2021 | 00:46:26
In a shocking move, Koei Tecmo has announced its bringing the remasters of Monster Rancher 1 & 2 DX to Switch, PC, and iOS worldwide December 9, 2021. After a year of wondering, longtime fans can celebrate the series 25th anniversary with both games this year. I'll let you know everything we learned today, including how you can turn cd's into monsters now. Gamescom is still going on, but really nothing JRPG related was announced. The biggest highlight was Lindsey Stirling's live performance of the Tales of Arise theme, which you can view on our YouTube channel. We had a few other Tales stories, but stick around to the end for my take on the demo after playing it last night. Lots of trailers this week so you want to check them out or wait until our video podcast. I talk about Astria Ascending a bit, Rune Factory as it celebrates 25 years, what Tales of Luminaria really is, and a few figures you might want to save your paycheck for soon. | JRPG Report Episode 179 - To Demo or Not to Demo, That is the Question | 19 Aug 2021 | 00:35:03
It's not a question we have that often to consider. In the case of Tales of Arise, its one I've went back and forth on several times. As new information and opinions have come out out, I've changed my mind too. So I'll tell you everything I know now that the demo has been released for consoles (sorry PC). Check back next week to see what I do! Only 22 more days until we get the full game. In other news Pokemon Presents happened giving fans new info and trailers for Pokémon Legends Arceus as well as Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Pokémon Shining Pearl. Check the new trailers out on our YouTube channel as I let you know the new info that was released. Shin Megami Tensei V had a news broadcast as well this week. Some new characters were revealed, you can see them in the trailer too. Plus a few other fun stories this week, making a fun albeit shorter podcast. Thank for listening! | JRPG Report Episode 178 - Rumor: Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Coming in 2022? | 12 Aug 2021 | 00:40:36
As with all rumors this one could be false. But it makes sense and has some ground to stand on. I'll report why I think this is true and why I want it to be true as a huge Xenoblade Chronicles 2 fan. I hope we get confirmation of the game at TGS next month. In non rumor news Tales of Arise is getting a demo on August 18. Consoles gamers (sorry PC) will get a short preview of the game although save data will not carry over. At the end of the podcast I'll read Siliconera's preview of the first few hours of the game. This may indeed be the same portion of the game the demo covers. SMT V got a new trailer last night as well as a few other games, so you'll want to check our Youtube page for all the new videos of the week. There you will find a gameplay video for 35 minutes of Blue Reflection Second Light. Thanks for listening as always! | JRPG Report Episode 177 - FFX Was 20 Years Ago | 05 Aug 2021 | 00:50:54
It's hard to believe huh? Feels like much less time than that. There was a recent interview with some of the key members of the development team, so I'll share of the interesting tidbits from that conversation. We have news from Tales of Arise, SMT V, Blue Reflection 2nd Light, and others. News is getting a bit lighter in the lead up to Gamecon and Tokyo Game Show. Stick around to the end for a listener review from Jake for Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wing of Ruin. If you're on the fence about this game, perhaps his review will help you out. Lastly if you were wondering about our nightly livestreams, they will return for sure with Tales of Arise. I finished up Remake and Intermission and can't decide on a next game. Maybe FF XIV to pass the time? Until I decide for sure, I'm taking a break and having fun with Genshin Impact. I'll let you know what I decide next week! | JRPG Report Episode 176 - The Tales Hype Train | 29 Jul 2021 | 00:33:33
The train is picking up steam as we get closer to September 10th! With the release of a new trailer and livestream, the Tales of Arise hype is only growing. I'll talk a bit about the new fishing activity and owl collecting. The next huge JRPG experience is only 6 weeks away! Idea Factory International gave us three windows release windows for upcoming games: Mary Skelter Finale, Death End Request 2 for Switch and the newly named Neptunia x Senran Kagura: Ninja Wars. We have a surprise western release date for Blue Reflection Second Light as well: it's coming November 9. A super fast turn around for a game releasing in October in Japan. The second half of 2021 is JRPG heavy (our poor wallets). It's a super episode this week but I hope you loved it. Thanks as always for listening! | JRPG Report Episode 175 - The Walter Wednesday Show | 21 Jul 2021 | 00:39:17
What a title right? It's Wednesday so that can only mean I'm gonna be out of town Thursday. So I wanted to have a little fun with the title. And Walter will show up in the podcast about halfway through. No headliners or release dates to mention, plus I'm in a bit of a rush to get out the door. Games we cover in this show: FF XIV, Legend of Heroes: Kuro no Kiseki, Disgaea, Blue Reflection Second Light, Tales of Arise, SMT V, and the future of Atlus and Dragon Quest. At the end I mention a few games on sale on the PSN store too. Back to normal next week. Thanks for listening! | JRPG Report Episode 174 - What's Next for Persona? | 15 Jul 2021 | 00:36:41
It's a good question and one will we have an answer for starting in September. Atlus will have a year long, 25th Anniversary celebration of Persona, with 7 planned announcements from September 2021 to Fall 2022. So what will they announce? I'll speculate what I think may come. We have a new trailer for Tales of Arise and Shin Megami Tensei V, along with many more you can see on our YouTube page. The Caligula Effect 2 got a fall release date of October 19 in the west, along with a new English gameplay trailer. The Cruel King and Great Hero is the official title when it heads west in early 2022. It was formally referred to as the The Wicked King and Noble Hero. We talk a lot of Final Fantasy in todays podcast. FF XVI, Remake, and even the remote possibility of FF X-3. Stick around until the end for that story. Next week's podcast will release on Wednesday as I'll be out of town on Thursday for an end of summer short trip. Thanks for listening friends! | JRPG Report Episode 173 - Blue Reflection Second Light Debut | 08 Jul 2021 | 00:38:31
Announced back in March, teased a few days ago, and revealed this week. Gust has shown off Blue Reflection Second Light, coming to Switch and PS4 in Japan this October. There's a debut trailer, images, and details to go over on today's podcast. The Legend of Heroes: Kuro no Kiseki shared new images and details about Fie and Zin today, as well as a new (at least to me) character. Let's hope we get this game before 2024! Tales of had a livestream featuring the newest animated opening for Tales of Arise. Don't worry fans they didn't change this tradition. There's also a blu ray full of all the opening for Tales games coming in December....for $65! We got a few other trailers and stories to talk about. I'll give an update on my moving plans, how great my PS5 is, and a small bit about some future brand plans. Like last week's rant? NIS America makes a second rant appearance this week, plus I share my feelings on the new Switch model. Thanks for listening! Hey gang we are back for another week of fun stories. So in short everything last week was true! I won't repeat the news so check last week's show to learn all about the Trails localizations. Although I do rant at the end about the crazy amount of time needed. Stick around for that fun! Let's talk about the FF Pixel Remasters coming July 28 with the first three games. I'll detail everything we know so far. We talk a bit of Tales at the end, mobile JRPG news in the end, and the biggest news of the week at the beginning: I got a PS5 today! Gamestop is shipping it hopefully tomorrow. So I'll share the easiest way (but most expensive unless you want to pay a scalper) to finally land your new system. Thanks for listening my friends! | JRPG Report Episode 171 - Trails Localization Leaks | 24 Jun 2021 | 00:48:45
Well so much for a slow week. Post E3 week was anything but quiet. We lead today's show with a leak and rumor, however I feel it's very legit. NIS America will be bringing 4 Legend of Heroes games to the west in 2022 and 2023. This leak comes from the Epic Games Store and there are still listings to prove this. Tonight's livestream of Falcom's 40th anniversary will either prove or disprove it all. Listen for all the details but in short Hajimari no Keseki is now Trails into Reverie and will come to the west in 2023. They will also finally be bringing the Crossbell games to the west as well as the Trails offshoot, The Legend of Nayuta: Boundless Trails. Full details next week on if this was all true or not. We also have videos and stories on Tales of Arise, Shin Megami Tensei V, Scarlet Nexus, Legend of Mana, NEO: The World Ends with You, and so much more. Super exciting news to share all around but I end the show on a bit of a low story: FF9 is getting an animated kids show? Listen til the end and I'll see you next week. Thanks for listening! | JRPG Report Episode 170 - E3 2021 Wrap Up Show | 17 Jun 2021 | 00:42:23
E3 2021 has come and gone and overall it was a decent show. JRPG news is never guaranteed at the event but we have some big stories to talk about. The major headline came at the end during Nintendo's portion: Shim Megami Tensei V is coming November 12 to Switch. Atlus showed off a new trailer and finally revealed gameplay for its original franchise. 25 minutes of it. I'll give all the details we know so far. Tales of Arise started the fun before E3 at the Summer Game Show with a new trailer and introduced two new characters, bringing the party to 6. After E3, media outlets showed the game in extended forms so we know all about the combat and exploration. The hype level for this game is getting crazy high! The show had some other games to feature: Eiyuden Chronicles, Monster Hunter Stories 2, Rune Factory 5, Astria Ascending, and the surprise of the show for me: Sacrifire. Here me talk about them all in this info packed episode. Thanks for listening! Please consider funding the show via Patreon or the Anchor link at the bottom of the description. He's played the game for a few hours and will give his impressions. We also chat about his obcession with the Neptunia series and the upcoming ninja crossover action rpg game. | JRPG Report Episode 152 - Nintendo Direct Feb 2021 Reactions with Dalton | 18 Feb 2021 | 01:05:16
The latest Nintendo Direct managed to both impress and disappoint at the same time. There were a ton of games crammed into the nearly hour long presentation, some we haven't seen before. But it was the absence of Shin Megami Tensei V that left fans scratching their heads, including ours. We break down every JRPG shown and even give some thoughts on the other games. Plus all the other news of the week in this huge over an hour podcast. Many thank to Dalton for dropping by. Catch me on his podcast, The Steam Machine Podcast, this weekend for our thoughts on Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age. | JRPG Report Episode 151 - Final Fantasy XIV Shoots for the Moon | 11 Feb 2021 | 00:34:12
This week saw the reveal of the newest expansion to the Final Fantasy XIV universe: Endwalker. It also showed the future with a revamped version coming to PS5. The game continues to evolve with the times and has a bright future ahead. We have a date for this year's New Game Plus Expo: March 4. Expect some JRPG news to come from this event. Hopefully. A few other stories, I talk hype about Persona 5 Strikers and Bravely Default II, and the Big in Japan Sale is underway on PSN. In late breaking news, Kingdom Hearts is coming to PC! All the games will be available exclusively on the Epic Games Store in March. Please consider funding the show via Patreon or the Anchor link at the bottom of the description. *Do not listen to this podcast if you haven't beaten the game. We will talk about it all!* I finally beat The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel IV a few weeks ago. So that means its spoilercast time! Jake waited patiently for us to talk and boy do we talk. So much so that we had to break it up into two parts. This episode covers all the basics, the beginning, up to the Eventide event. Part 2 comes next week with everything else.
