Finding Joy with Guest: Dr. Bruce Greyson16 Jan 202400:40:20

Fr. Nathan discusses Dr. Bruce Greyson's research work on near-death experiences.

Dr. Bruce Greyson is the Chester Carlson Professor Emeritus of Psychiatry and Neurobehavioral Sciences at the University of Virginia.  He was previously on the medical faculty at the University of Michigan and the University of Connecticut, where he was Clinical Chief of Psychiatry. Dr. Greyson has consulted with the National Institutes of Health and addressed symposia on consciousness at the United Nations and at the Dalai Lama’s compound in Dharamsala, India. He has earned awards for his medical research and was elected a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, the highest honor bestowed by that organization.

Dr. Greyson’s interest in near-death experiences began just a few months after graduating from medical school, when he treated an unconscious patient in the emergency room who stunned him the next morning with an account of leaving her body. That event challenged his beliefs about the mind and the brain, and ultimately led him on a journey to study near-death experiences scientifically, leading to more than a hundred publications in medical journals. He co-founded the International Association for Near-Death Studies (IANDS), an organization to support and promote research into these experiences, and for 27 years edited the Journal of Near-Death Studies, the only scholarly journal dedicated to near-death research. Through his research, he has discovered common and universal themes in near-death experiences that go beyond neurophysiological or cultural interpretations, as well as patterns of consistent aftereffects on individuals’ attitudes, beliefs, values, and personalities.

Dr. Greyson is the author of After: A Doctor Explores What Near-Death Experiences Reveal About Life and Beyond. The book challenges our everyday ideas about our minds and our brains and offers key insights on how we can begin to live a more meaningful and fulfilling life.

Finding Joy with Guest: Byron Katie31 Oct 202300:37:39

Fr. Nathan discusses "The Work" of Byron Katie. A method of inquiry born directly out of Byron Katie’s experience. This practice allows you to access the wisdom that always exists within you.

In 1986, at the bottom of a ten-year spiral into depression and self-loathing, Byron Katie woke up one morning in a state of joy. She realized that when she believed her stressful thoughts, she suffered, but that when she questioned them, she didn’t suffer, and that this is true for every human being. Her simple yet powerful process of self-inquiry, which she calls The Work, consists of four questions and the turnaround, which is a way of experiencing the opposite of what you believe. Byron Katie has been bringing The Work to millions of people for more than thirty years.

Her books include the bestselling  Loving What Is now in a revised edition, I Need Your Love—Is That True?,  A Thousand Names for Joy, and A Mind at Home with Itself

Please join her at athomewithbk.com for At Home with BK on Zoom every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from 9-10 a.m. Pacific Time.

Spiritual Practice: It Happened at IANDS: Witnessing a Family’s Transformation From Terrifying Death to Afterlife Peace19 Sep 202300:40:43

Fr. Nathan discusses the spiritual practices that arise from the story of Abraham and his family in It Happened at IANDS: Witnessing a Family’s Transformation From Terrifying Death to Afterlife Peace. From his upcoming Afterlife, Interrupted Book Three: Please Let Me Explain.

If you would like to help the Catholic Nuns in the Benebikira Congregation, a native Rwandan order. In Kinyarwandan, Benebikira means "Daughters of Mary". They serve the poorest of the poor in Rwanda, a country that suffered so much during the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi.

Their convent is over 100 years old and is in serious disrepair. They are in desperate need of a new home and because they originated in Rwanda, they have no mother order in Europe they can turn to for assistance. Immaculee Ilibagiza survived the genocide and is helping these saintly souls through her work in the U.S. and abroad. 100% of all money raised will go to rebuild their convent. Video updates are posted on www.immaculee.com website. Donations can be made here: https://gofund.me/9e4d0100 "We the World" manage Immaculee's Charities and 100% will go to this cause. Tax ID #13-4129493

Fr. Nathan and The Joyful Friar Podcast are not affiliated with Immaculee Ilibagiza or the Benebikira Congregation.

He saw them leave their bodies at death and communicated with them. Their messages were always filled with love and hope.

Dr. Jeff’s otherworldly communications began in childhood after a farm accident took the life of his older brother, Stan. Dr. Jeff published an award-winning memoir, Not Yet, and speaks internationally about his experiences. He also meets with clients for individual intuitive mentoring. He connects people to their highest self so they can get their own answers and live their most authentic life. As he says, “I bring people to their Aha moment."
