Joshua Gavin is known as “The Offer Kid” and the founder of Ad Free Funnels. 

He was in our HTC program back in the day, and has a very unique skillset. I wanted to bring him on to share how he discovered Power Offers and how he used that to get to where he is today. 

Josh developed a funnel agency in 2020, transitioning from local business marketing to working with coaches and consultants. One of his VSL clients asked him to “build him a Mini Webinar like Joel Erway does.” Josh had no idea what a Mini Webinar was, much less knew about this guy Joel Erway…but he didn’t tell this to his client, and got to work on his research.

He learned about Mini Webinars and Power Offers on the job, and it instantly clicked.

While it seemed like everyone else was doing long-form sales processes, Josh figured that selling outcomes through short-form Mini Webinars could be the next big thing. He went all-in on Mini Webinars and Power Offers, and is still going strong today.

Can You Turn A Service Business Into A High Ticket Course? | SWW12928 Sep 202000:15:14

Can service-based businesses launch high ticket offers?

Maybe...

The answer isn’t as straightforward as you might think.

I always try to be up front, and as clear as possible when talking about what types of service businesses are a good fit for high ticket offers.

The truth is, this is not universal. There are some things that don’t translate well into high ticket offers.

But sometimes, there are things that just need to be packaged and/or positioned differently to become awesome high ticket offers.

Example: You might recall that I recently worked with an attorney who wanted to go a certain direction with his offer. Honestly, I wasn’t really on board.

But as we were having a consulting call, he mentioned something that made me sit up and take notice; one of those “pump the brakes” moments.

We ended up positioning him with a totally different (and very exciting) offer, doing something he was already doing for his clients.

Sometimes all it takes is a willingness to step back, and take a good hard look at what you do. Add in some discussion, a little give-and-take and brainstorming, and you might discover a way to package your expertise in a way you hadn’t considered — but that serves clients well.

Would you like a peak behind the curtain at my low-ticket funnel?

Wait...did I say low-ticket?!

Yes, I did.

You know my whole vibe is high ticket offers, right?

I made my bones in the Internet marketing space by ignoring conventional funnel-based marketing, and using Power Offers and Mini Webinars that lead to high ticket offers.

But you might not know that I started out doing low-ticket offers.

It went...OK. Kind of.

I broke even, but here’s the thing: We’re not in business to break even!

In this episode of Sold With Webinars I share the nitty-gritty details of a low-ticket funnel I did for our Power Offer Workshop.

The workshop itself was a HUGE success.

The feedback has been off the charts, and out of 310 sales, only seven people refunded. It’s even been compared to masterclasses costing thousands — not bad for a $37 product!

The funnel for this offer has done pretty well (we’re into five figures), but part of my purpose in sharing this is to, once again, remind you that if you follow the traditional method of funnel-based marketing — Ascension Model, Value Ladder, self-liquidating offers — I just don’t believe it’s the right path to generating lots of income.

I am ~not~ saying it doesn’t work. There are plenty of people out there who have made it work.

But basing your entire strategy on pushing leads from low-ticket offers through upsells and OTOs in the hopes that they’ll bite on your high ticket offer can be a long, frustrating process.

I’ll never go back to that model.

Fulfillment Secrets: Why transformation beats deliverables | SWW12631 Aug 202000:09:32

Want to know a secret about fulfillment? Your clients don’t care about deliverables. They care about solving their problems with your solution.

I don’t talk a lot about fulfillment. Instead, I try to get my High Ticket Courses students to concentrate on the transformation they offer their clients. But I do get questions from people who want to know how to grow their business without promising too much of their time in the form of consulting calls or offers. Too many people get hung up on the deliverables (bloated offer stacks, anyone?) without understanding this simple idea: What your clients really want is your knowledge, and an understanding of how they’re going to use it to improve their own situation. That’s it. You don’t have to bury yourself in fulfillment by offering time-consuming deliverables like weekly coaching calls. That’s a dangerous trap that puts pressure on you, pressure on your client to perform within a specified timeframe, and it has the potential to cannibalize your offer. And, in most cases it’s just not necessary. What you should be delivering is transformation, not endless amounts of your time.

Recently, I was on a consultation call with a world-famous marketer. If I mentioned their name, everyone would know who it is. They’re launching a new offer and they wanted my advice on some things.

At the end of the call, this marketer asked me,

"Hey Joel, so you know, out of curiosity, like what is the one thing that you're working on right now? Like, how can I help?"

Of course, I was very grateful he offered.

"Well, my main focus right now is scaling high ticket courses 2.0. We just relaunched our webinar. We got new customers that are enrolling. It's going great. And so that's my primary focus." "Well, that's strange. Why aren't you scaling your own high ticket program?"

His response tripped me up for a minute. And the reason why he stumped me is that I thought what I was doing was a no-brainer. I believe they call that the Curse of Knowledge.

One of the core principles I teach in High Ticket courses is being agile.

Being able to move quickly and test a lot of ideas.

Usually, that's to find the one idea we can scale. But what if they all work?

How To Turn A Commodity Into A High Ticket Offer| #10906 Apr 202000:11:12
“Why would I pay $2,500 for a testimonial video when I can just get my students to record one on their phone?”

Brian was calling it the “spider web” testimonial.

When he asked me for feedback about his offer, I really couldn’t see the price justification.

And so, he had to explain to me why his weren’t normal testimonials, they’re much better, etc.

I eventually ended up working with him and he did 10 testimonials for High Ticket Courses.

It’s because of a simple reframe, a tiny shift in positioning.

This “shift” will allow you to sell high-ticket to cold audiences.

I’ll tell you about it in a minute.

Mind you, it’s not like his product wasn’t legitimately better than a regular testimonial.

He had one of my student record 2 versions.

One, the student recorded with his phone and it was the usual.

The second was much more polished.

It was edited.

You could tell he was asking the student questions.

The testimonial was methodical and had a logical progression.

“The reason why my stuff is so great is because I'm uncovering gaps in the sales process for my clients when I'm interviewing their customers.”

Jackpot. Now, we’ve got a high ticket offer.

Tools Vs. Models

A Tool is a commodity.

Tools can be shopped around.

People can get several quotes and compare prices.

It’s hard to sell a tool at a premium.

And good luck selling a high ticket course for one.

A Model is unique.

There’s only one of it: yours.

People can’t shop around for a better price.

The price is whatever you say it is. Look at me, for example.

If I told you “I want to teach you how to create a webinar,” my competition is the hundreds of low-ticket products on the market and thousands of free videos, articles, and podcasts on the topic.

But if I told you, “I want to teach you how to sell your course for $5,000, $10,000, or even up to $25,000,” there’s zero competition.

This is a fact.

Let’s take Brian as another example.

Brian doesn’t sell testimonials.

He sells:

  • Discovering gaps in your sales process.
  • Revealing the real reasons why customers buy from you.
  • High-value sales material that can be used to get more customers

Any one of these things is worth $2,500.

A “testimonial” costs nothing but the time it takes me to get my student to record one for me on his phone.

This brings me to my final point…

Don’t Leave It Up To Your Customers To Figure Out The Value Of Your Products

Don’t leave it up to me to figure out what I can do with “testimonials.”

If you do, the value is low.

Instead, tell me:

“What I'm really doing for you is developing compelling sales material that new prospects are going to relate to because it's coming from your current customers' mouths.”

No more price objections.

No more, “Why am I paying $2,500 for a testimonial?”

Conclusion

If you're having a hard time getting prospects to buy your high-ticket offer, chances are you’re selling a Tool.

And there are a hundred other businesses selling the same tool, all competing on price.

Turn your Tool into a Model.

Show your prospects a process and what their life looks like after they complete it.

Now, you have a compelling sales argument for why your product is priced at a premium.

Don’t leave it up to your prospects to figure out the value of what you provide.

Their response will be, “Why should I pay so much for that?

Instead, demonstrate your value in detail so there is no doubt in their mind that your product is worth the investment.

When I first came up with the 3-tiered offer model for High Ticket Courses, I tried explaining it to people verbally.

And as I talked to them face-to-face, I could see they didn't get it.

Something just wasn't clicking.

But I had to find a way to make them "get it."

In my mind, I started seeing shapes.

I had a vision for how I could explain my model to people and make it instantly make sense.

That's where the 3 triangles came from for the Perfect Expert model.

How to get prospects to sell themselves with UM | #10502 Mar 202000:14:23

I spent some time last week working within the High Ticket Courses group. They were asking a lot of questions on the sales process and how to boost their conversion rates.

The advice that I gave them is really beneficial for any industry or product.  --> I focus on the application form. Pre-framing before they get on the sales call. 

Do not copy and paste from someone else - create what is UNIQUE to you. You MUST re-create your own assessment form or application form. It MUST speak to your mechanism.  You want to connect with them on the form, you want to review their forms.  

No lead is hotter than the lead who just clicked SUBMIT on their application form.

If you ask BETTER QUESTIONS, you will get BETTER LEADS.

Focus on a few key things:

  • Promise / Offer
  • Unique mechanism
  • WHY? 
  • What to specifically include...

 

Additionally...

Step #1: Get the prospects to sell themselves by repeating your unique mechanism. And if they are not doing this,then they are saying that they did not like your presentation or connect with you because of xyz.  You know that you need to go back and edit. But when they are repeating your mechanisms then BOOM you know you got a winner.

Step #2: Repeat your promise throughout your ENTIRE presentation and sales process. This is how you get your prospects to sell themselves and increase the quality of your leads.

Everyone wants to: Reduce no show rates, Get better prospects, How to insure sales team effectiveness.

New Goal: Eliminate the sales conversations.

Today may be a bit controversial and I do not want it to be taken the wrong way.  

A big choke-point can be the sales conversations and the sales process.  I speak with a client about this and share the results with you...

  • Create a new and unique assessment form
  • Assessment: assessing that they are the right client
  • BIG ADVICE: re-frame everything that you are doing as "how is this going to benefit my customer?" "What can you do for the customer...?"
  • Ask better questions framed around core promise
  • Examples
  • Remind prospects of what they are getting from this program
  • Sales first -> marketing second
  • You ask vague questions, you will get vague answers and unqualified prospects!
  • I do not believe that we really need to follow a "sales script"

--> This will increase your close rate with enrollment conversations.

Today I have spent some time speaking with our high ticket courses clients.  I spoke with some clients who have a difficult niche like personal development, etc. They are concerned that they will not make it because they do not have a "get rich" program.  They are INCORRECT!

It's about your power offer.  Position yourself as a high ticket course.

When we are in the world of direct response marketing, we need to make the intangible tangible. How can we create this? ex: Helping someone get through grief... Helping someone with divorce, etc.

A peek inside what we have been working on and how things are working for us... 

Behind the Scenes:

I am a huge advocate for messaging; the right messaging for the right buyers. So how can we test while spending less.  Our ads have hit a stagnant point, a scaling block.  I think we have hit our threshold with the message and the audience. So we need to change our audience and change our message to appeal to this audience. 

We are currently in testing mode.  

Conversion rate optimization is what we are really learning. Scroll rates, where are they dropping off, etc. 

So what's on the horizon: 

  • Nobody is really teaching rate optimization from ad to funnel; I want to change this;
  • I am working on how to optimize every step on the customer journey from click to close.

My new GOAL: how can we measure, optimize and monitor every step.

Through our testing, my cost per link clicks has gotten as low as 20 cents! So I will be continuing our testing and will fill you in as we move forward...
