This month’s theme is Divergent Paths, which focuses on season 1 and 2 divergent stories. We take a particular interest in Bluetara stories (fics involving the Blue Spirit and Painted Lady) and highlight some great art.

And here we are, standing at the edge of the end. As we celebrate the end of 2020, we must also celebrate the end of Book One. In other words, the Jasmine Dragon is closing for the holiday season. We will return in the new year with new flavors, new interviews, and new episodes. But before then, let us send you off with a basket of goodies, a few warms words, and of course--a cup of tea. This week, we’ve decided to celebrate the rebirth of our fandom. In other words, welcome to Episode 5: Fandom Renaissance.

In this episode of our beloved serial, a young Katara experiences her first summer in the Fire Nation, learns a thing or two about calligraphy, and meets a headstrong boy who will eventually become the Fire Lord.

Life is made up of "Before"s and "After"s. In this episode, we dive into that theme, exploring Tamberella's art to see how she portrayed the Fire Siblings- Zuko and Azula- and their childhood memories versus their adult realities. We dig in to ifyouwereamelody's Forged in Flames, and see how the build up of the "Before" can create a moment that casts all the next ones as "After". And finally, we pry apart Azula's fraying psyche displayed by the condition of her hair. (Hint: it's a lot more telling than you realize it to be) As Uncle Iroh himself recognized what change could be like, he once said- "Destiny is a funny thing. You never know how things are going to work out. But if you keep an open mind and an open heart, I promise you will find your own destiny someday."
