Episode 269 - Engines of The Apocalypse: Imperial Titans

Episode 269

jeudi 20 novembre 2025Duration 02:09:44

Episode 269 of The Independent Characters strides onto the battlefield with a thunderous step as we begin a two-part exploration of the greatest war machines ever to walk the galaxy - the Titans. In this first installment, we turn our gaze to the Imperial God-Engines of the Adeptus Mechanicus and the Collegia Titanica, delving deep into their origins, traditions, and the awe-inspiring lore that surrounds them. From the Titan Legions of the Great Crusade to the battles of the 41st Millennium, we trace how these towering avatars of the Omnissiah came to symbolize the Imperium's divine right to rule through fire and steel.

We discuss the classes and hierarchy of Imperial Titans - from the swift Warhound Scout Titans to the legendary Warlord and the near-mythic Imperator - and examine the sacred bond between the Princeps, Moderati, and their god-machine. These are not mere machines, but walking cathedrals of destruction, powered by faith and fury in equal measure.

On the tabletop, Imperial Titans have taken many forms across Games Workshop's systems, and we look at how these behemoths are represented in Warhammer 40,000, Horus Heresy, Adeptus Titanicus, and Legions Imperialis. Whether you command a Titan Maniple in Adeptus Titanicus or field a Warlord in an Apocalypse-scale 40K battle, these engines of war have remained a constant source of fascination and terror. We also discuss the stunning models that bring them to life; each one a feat of design that captures the impossible scale and grandeur of the Imperium's god-machines.

This episode marks the beginning of our most monumental topic yet, and it's only the first half of the story. In Episode 270, we'll turn our auspex toward the Xenos counterparts; the alien god-engines of the Orks, Aeldari, and beyond to see how other races of the galaxy answer the thunderous challenge of the Imperium's Titans!

We hope you enjoy the show.

Episode 268 - Show of Force: Oaths & Damnation Part Two

Episode 268

vendredi 31 octobre 2025Duration 01:52:32

Episode 268 of The Independent Characters lumbers onto the battlefield just in time for Halloween – and it's a dark and twisted one!

When we set out to cover both the Imperial Knights and their blasphemous counterparts, the Chaos Knights, it quickly became clear that the topic was far too massive for a single episode. Carl's optimism got the better of him (again), and what was shaping up to be a five-to-six-hour show had to be cleaved in two. Thus, our Show of Force: Oaths and Damnation has become a two-parter.

This episode, we descend into the shadows to explore the corrupted Knight Houses that turned their backs on honor and swore allegiance to the Dark Gods. Carl and Adan take you through the lore, the tabletop presence, the terrifying rules, and the evolution of these towering engines of damnation. From the infernal bargains of the Infernal Houses to the ruthless traditions of the Iconoclasts, Chaos Knights embody the darker half of this story, and they arrive on October 31st to haunt your feed.

So lock your hatches, ward your soul, and prepare for a Halloween-ready dive into the corrupted grandeur of the Chaos Knights.

Time Stamps:

  • 0:00:00 – Show Intro, Elite Choice, Hobby Progress

Episode 259 is finally, our Show of Force episode about The World Eaters! To help us out, we have brought in World Eaters expert Brian Harvey, to help us understand what the Sons of Angron are all about... and what makes them such a fantastic army.

If you aren't aware of what our Show of Force Episodes are all about well here is your answer:

Show of Force is an ongoing series of episodes we will spread out through our releases of The Independent Characters. These shows take a look at each army in the Warhammer 40,000 Universe and seek to answer the question 'Why should you collect this army?'

As we have said from the beginning, we don't do "Codex Overviews" this is more of a celebration of the hobby from a specific point of view.

Episode 164 - The Permutation of Arasys

mardi 5 décembre 2017Duration 02:39:58

Episode 164 of The Independent Characters is late. Super late in fact. Let us explain:

As you will hear in this episode we have an interview with Steel Wool - a video game company working on a great new game for Warhammer 40k. Unfortunately, we also talked a lot about this interview and its contents. Their announcement was subsequently delayed due to… reasons. As a result, we could not release the episode or even just remove the interview and release it on time, and in fact released it out of order (Episode 165 dropped a few days ago).

We apologize for the delay and we have learned our lesson to never again tie an episode to a PR Announcement of a release!

So with that out of the way, let's talk about what this episode actually contains! First we have a fairly long and meandering Hobby Progress discussion which also weighs in on a few new announcements from GW and other thoughts and ideas about the community.

We then move into our (delayed) interview with Steel Wool about their new Betrayal at Calth video game! Trust us when we tell you that this thing is VERY cool. Listen to the interview and you will see why.

We then have an interview with returning guests Kat and Caleb of CK Studios. They have some amazing events coming up and we get some insight into what they have going on.

Last but certainly not least, we have a short discussion about our home campaign The Permutation of Arasys, which we have been playing through. We talk about the structure of the campaign, how it is going so far, and what our expectations are going forward.

Again we apologize for the delays in releasing the show, but we really hope you enjoy what we have for you.

Time Stamps:

  • 0:00:00 - Show Intro and Host Introduction
  • 0:07:15 - Workbench and Hobby Progress
  • 1:04:15 - Steel Wool Interview
  • 1:45:45 - CK Studios Interview
  • 2:34:40 - The Permutation of Arasys Campaign
  • 2:59:00 - Final Thoughts and Show Closing

Episode 165 - Show of Force: Champions of Titan

dimanche 3 décembre 2017Duration 03:56:07

Episode 165 of The Independent Characters is a super-sized, nearly four hour episode! The first thing you need to know though, is that this episode is being released in ADVANCE of Episode 164 as a result of a PR announcement tied to that episode which was delayed. This forced us to delay the release of 164, so we hurried up and released 165 as soon as we could. This episode is our Show of Force covering the Grey Knights!

(I know. It's confusing.)

To help us through this episode, we have brought on two guys who are incredibly passionate about the Grey Knights. Aaron (also known as Magneto) and Adan. I want to thank them very much for joining us on short notice so we could get this episode out to you guys and not make you wait even longer for Episode 164.

Our Show of Force episodes are some of our most positively reviewed content - but just when you think it cannot get any better we top it by bringing on Aaron Dembski-Bowden and Geoff Hummel to complete our Forbidden Lore segment on Black Legion. Aarons follow up to Talon of Horus! It's an hour long interview full of spoilers and fanboy gushing, but we think you will enjoy that!

Thank you for your patience as we have dealt with this fumble of timing. We hope you enjoy the show.

Time Stamps:

  • 0:00:00 - Show Intro and Host Introduction
  • 0:08:15 - Workbench and Hobby Progress
  • 0:55:00 - Show of Force: Grey Knights (Part 1)
  • 2:06:45 - Show of Force: Grey Knights (Part 2)
  • 2:42:15 - Final Thoughts and Show Closing
  • 2:48:50 - Forbidden Lore: Black Legion with Aaron Dembski-Bowden
