Do you ever feel like a fraud? Are you living with chronic self-doubt? Do you question whether you deserve to be in your role? If so, you're not alone! As a leadership coach and lifelong struggler with impostor syndrome, I wanted to create a space where professionals can tell their personal stories and unburden themselves of the silent shame that comes with this experience. I also wanted listeners to be able to hear themselves in others and realize that they are not alone. On this podcast, we'll share the stories of professionals from different backgrounds who've struggled with and learned to manage impostor syndrome. We'll also learn from experts on how to better manage ourselves and our environments to minimize the overall threat of impostor syndrome. Let's erase the stigma and stop feeling ashamed of these very normal experiences. And let's come together to share our challenges and strategize how to effectively rise above them.

Side hustles are a popular experiment these days but, for those of us who struggle with impostor syndrome and other fears, the process can be daunting. My guest this week, Jen Lewi, is an executive coach with a specialty in career strategy. Here she shares how she started her coaching business as a side hustle before officially making it her full-time role. Jen and I chat about how to come up with an idea for a side hustle, how to manage your mindset and how to take baby steps to achieve your goals.

This week, I’m talking with Lissy Alden, the founder of MYNDY, a mental fitness company that helps people build better behavioral and thought patterns. Here Lissy shares her story of overcoming stress and burnout, then returning to school to study the brain. Lissy and I talk about the importance of focusing on your micro-environment and identifying small, repeatable steps you can take to stay in control of your life, better manage stress and more effectively achieve your goals.

Lissy Alden is the founder of MYNDY, a mental fitness company. Before MYNDY, Lissy built a proprietary, research-backed and quantitative framework to help change company culture and was a change agent fighting burnout for herself and others at large organizations. She specialized in working with companies (like Amex, NYTimes, etc) to measure and operationalize culture, improve service operations, and enhance workforce development. She is a graduate of Cornell University and received her MBA from MIT.

My guest this week is Jeff Sigel, author of the book The Middle Matters, a Toolkit for Middle Managers. Jeff argues that middle managers are actually doing three roles at once – doing, leading and influencing. But they’re not often given proper guidance on how to effectively perform and balance these roles. Here we talk about the challenges facing middle managers and what you can do to become a more confident, effective leader.

She also shares tips for how you can find a mentor and maximize that experience.

Amber Barber is an experienced problem solver, with nearly 22 years of fixing other people’s mistakes in the high-tech world. After earning both her bachelor's and masters degrees in physics, Amber started at National Semiconductor in Texas. She has since held roles at several other companies, including Microsoft and Lam Research, and is currently the senior director of Jade Global’s program management office, working remotely from a small town in Oregon. Her passion for learning and guiding others drove her training and certifications in both PMI Project Management as well as Lean Six Sigma, where she earned Master Black Belt. Amber is a proud mom of four adult children, and lives in her empty nest with two spoiled cats and her incredibly patient husband Brad. Amber loves all things geek, reading for hours, and traveling the world.

My guest, Karyn Seitz, the Happiness Mentor, shares her personal journey of turning to spiritual healing to try to address her impostor syndrome, only to find that true healing comes from within. She emphasizes the importance of putting ourselves first to find true happiness. And she shares a simple, yet powerful strategy for how to do so that can change our relationship with ourselves and ensure that others get the best of us.
About My Guest
As a former spiritual healer, Karyn realized her clients were not getting better. She was frustrated that she could not deliver the results her clients wanted even though she was trying lots of different healing modalities and coaching techniques.
Karyn knew she also wasn’t getting the changes she wanted in her life. She secretly lacked any confidence in her ability to change. Her adult life had stalled.
In a fresh new search for answers, Karyn found the missing piece that would ultimately transform her life and her clients. There is something very profound in owning that she is the problem in her life. This awareness pushed her to confront herself and get serious about herself and her life.
Karyn is now fulfilled in her life and teaches others the same journey she has taken to find herself and be happy.
Karyn calls herself The Happiness Mentor and teaches an online happiness course for women called Awakened Grace.
