We have a case of crabs that no ointment can solve. But that's what we get for visiting Roger Cormans island, adjacent to the Bikini Atoll testing sites.

Silent Night Deadly Night 2 - GROUNDHOG DAY! - Christmassacre 202206 Dec 202201:55:19

Josh Clough joins us for his first Christmassacre to discuss the issues this rubber faced pretty boy has against sanitation pickup as we watch GARBAGE DAY, aka Silent Night Deadly Night 2. The first 40 minutes of this film is 90% the first film in flashbacks. but the next 50 minutes is just outrageous violence and only the final 15 minutes is about Christmas. Yet somehow we couldn’t be mad at this film cause the internet has made one of the most bizarre kills a total meme. We do our due diligence to determine how this came to be as it was. You will laugh and you will learn.

The Belko Experiment (2016) - Extreme Downsizing29 Nov 202201:11:13

Slither was one of our most beloved films to review, thanks to James Gunn and his ability to take violence, gore, and music to create touching soulful films that speak to the human condition. Enter, The Belko Experiment, written by him after a vivid dream, but not directed by him due to various reasons over several years. So it retains his flavour, and his familiar casting choices, that we have NO problem with. This is like Battle Royal meets Office Space.

Would You Rather (2012) - No I Wouldn’t22 Nov 202201:06:47

Jeffrey Combs. has he ever disappointed us on this show? Re-Animator, Castle Freak, and to our surprise, this unique saw ripoff. Combs is a man obsessed with the idea of choice, and how flexible morals can be for the right price. We love him, and this movie while… squicky at times, has some charming actors besides Mr Combs.

Rec (2007) - Check Yourself Before You do This15 Nov 202201:19:22

We deviate from the usual English fare and indulge in a Spanish first person horror. does it fall prey to the usual tropes that drive Mike to anger, or does it thread the needle and use its narrative device to proper effect?

Nightmares (1983) - Too Hot for 1981 TV - Halloween Grab Bag 202201 Nov 202202:01:34

We finish the Halloween Grab Bag with some Nightmares that gave us anything but. These stories were initially written to appear in a TV series called Darkroom but was considered too scary for television and was rewritten for a theatrical release. Unfortunately.

John (Mr Socko on twitch) is here to celebrate Halloween Month as we dig into “the Grab Bag” where we will review anthology horrors for bite sized tales of dread and terror. And then there’s THIS movie by Steven King with surprisingly little of either. but it’s still good!

Us (2019) - Your Tax Dollars at Work27 Aug 202401:47:29

With our previous movie, it was a great idea executed terribly. This movie is fittingly the mirror opposite; a terrible idea executed brilliantly. This is just an excellent movie, but the premise just begs so many unanswered questions. It follows Jordan Peele's great idea of facing cultural issues through a distorted lens, much like the Twilight Zone episode that inspired this film. Another social horror that just makes us want to see what's next from this man. He clearly has an appreciation for the classics.

John (Mr Socko on Twitch) and Sheldon are here to finish up the Murder For Dummies month on the podcast as we see a blatant rip off of Child’s Play that doesn’t hold up to that, but stands above other murder toy. At least it isn’t a Puppetmaster movie.

The Boy (2016) - Doll Syndrome - Murder for Dummies 202206 Sep 202200:58:35

This month we study Murder for Dummies, as we take on the offerings of horror that animate the inanimate. This month begins with The Boy, that classic from 2016 that cant even crack 30% on Rotten Tomatoes. One of us feels this is a little undue. see who loves it and who isn't that impressed, in this weeks episode.

Beach Girls and the Monster (1965) - Bitch Wife and the Monster in the Surf (Yeah Yeah Yeah)16 Aug 202201:15:22

John and Liz meet for the first time to discuss The Beach Girls and The Monster (1965) where the beach girls don’t factor in at all. Luckily they get along like sand on a hot dog to deliver choice comedic commentary on this move that didn’t even TRY to be political commentary. Or anything of any sense at all.

The Horror of Party Beach 1964 - Night of the Living Zoidbergs02 Aug 202201:58:15

John (Mr Socko on Twitch) is back to talk some lovely horror shop for the first entry in the Summer of Surf, Sand and Schlock, with some sloppy atomic scare film thats trying to copy Godzilla but without anything to say and no budget for spectacle. Its on par with some of the worst films ever made and so we have to adjust our scale accordingly. Enjoy!

Coherence (2014) - Comet As You Are20 Aug 202401:46:12

It’s a wonderful night, you’re hanging out with your friends, and everyone is talking about a comet passing by. Then you suffer a neighbourhood blackout and find yourself in the intersection of an excellent episode of the Twilight Zone, and a terrible improv show. The only house you can see from your own house is…..your own house. Realities of various states are unravelled and nobody might be who they think they are. It’s an excellent concept... too bad the first sign things are in bad hands, is that the title is the opposite of what is actually happening! But at least we get a cutting room floor skit out of it :)

John Aka Mr Socko is back to review some creepy films. Jennifer’s Body (2009) - She’s a Maneater28 Jun 202201:16:14

Pride Month concludes on the calendar but not on the podcast. This is the second last LGBTQ horror for our pride celebration (we keep our rainbow tombstone up one week longer than the corporations) as we cover Jennifer’s Body. Megan Fox plays a detestable selfish sexpot who gets possessed by a demon and becomes….. well she doesn’t change much except she has powers now. So it’s up to the rest of the characters to pick up the slack for charm, wit, and likeability. Do they pull it off?

The Craft Legacy (2020) - The Sisterhood of the Used Gym Shorts07 Jun 202201:47:55

It’s Pride Month once again so Liz joins us as we pay tribute to horrors that contain LGBTQ elements, to give credit to the older queer characters relegated to villains due to their “deviancy” and others who finally get representation. We begin with the sequel to The Craft which is as groundbreaking as the original, as both were equally products of their time.

Shadow of the Vampire (2000) - Maximum Overschreck31 May 202201:36:15

In Sepia No One Can Hear You Scream. Except in this film, which ends our tribute to the silent film genre with colour and sound! Nosferatu was so good we cover it twice as Shadow of the Vampire was the “True” story of the making of the 1922 film. John Malcovich and Willem Dafoe face off for the creepiest fucker award and we’re the winners.

Nosferatu (1922) - Count Knock-Off - In Sepia No One Can Hear You Scream24 May 202201:36:26

As we near the end, we give props to the most famous silent horror Nosferatu: A Symphony in Horror. The ultimate exuberant, this illegal film survived only violating court orders and we are grateful for 5 criminals just sneaking off with the prints that we enjoy today. We are joined by Sheldon to give this film its due.

Cabinet of Dr Caligari (1920) - Idle Bodies are the Doctors Playthings - In Sepia No One Can Hear You Scream17 May 202201:58:47

We continue with In Sepia No One Can Hear You Scream as we open up the Cabinet of Dr Caligari and we find a lot more than used razors and toothbrushes. We find the sinister somnambulist, a bizarre backdrop of a town, and most importantly, the sad story of how this was made to be a very different film and the writers desperate struggle. it still doesn’t match Heathers struggle which you will find out about when you listen.

Psycho Goreman (2020) - Better the Devil You Know….Right?13 Aug 202401:33:55

We found a movie that takes the piss out of those “kid makes friends with a monster” movies in a way that has never been done, and we are on board for this. This takes inspiration from some very obvious sources and makes no apologies, and we couldn’t be happier.

The Golem (1920) - Oy Clay - In Sepia No One Can Hear You Scream10 May 202201:49:39

Mike is joined by Heather and new friend Liz to tackle this creature born of Jewish culture, and we delve into why German Expressionism was critical to horror, and that will come into play for the next couple of weeks as we continue with part 2 of our tribute month “In Sepia No One Can Hear You Scream”. Today we meet the precursor to Frankenstein’s Monster in a foppish wig.

The Phantom of the Opera (1925) - Pull My Chaney - In Sepia No One Can Hear You Scream03 May 202201:51:28

In Sepia, No One Can Hear You Scream Part 1. We pay tribute to the originals of horror that paved the way for everything that would come. These are the pioneers of peril, the old ones, but not forgotten. As is the case with months of importance, we will provide historical context that led to these films, what influenced THEM, and who they influenced later. Get ready to laugh and learn, folks!

We begin with a film that came after the other ones we will cover yet there’s a reason we chose it to be first. Conceived in love but born into chaos, The Phantom of the Opera (1925) and (1929) was released twice. A silent film about opera? Yeah, there’s some problems with this one. But it’s an important film more than a good one to which we owe a lot more gratitude than just the 1986 musical .

Terrorvision (1986) - Just Taking Care of Business26 Apr 202201:01:52

At Eric’s insistence, we covered this movie. He did not partake in the review. We found out why. It was an act of malice we will not soon forgive or forget. Enjoy our suffering. This is about an alien that travels through televisions. in just one house. yet it can still move around rooms without them. so whats the point? just making a film with a pun title? We could have done better.

Leprechaun 6 Back 2 tha Hood (2003) - It’s a Hood Knock Life - March of the Leprechaun 202229 Mar 202201:19:28

It’s fitting that a movie loaded with weed jokes would end the franchise (and the March of the Leprechaun) on a high note. This is the hood leprechaun we deserve. We hope you have as much hearing us gush over this as you did our suffering over the last one.

Fresh (2022) - Eating’s Not Cheating, Except When It’s Both06 Aug 202401:34:02

What happens when you take the dangers of dating, the desperation for side hustle in a gig economy, and the stigma of vegetarianism, and combine it in a quirky dark comedy thriller seasoned with a tongue in cheek soundtrack? You get a movie that really hits so many night notes it only hits lows created by it’s heights. We really enjoyed watching this, and talking about it. Plus Mike unleashes his social reform manifesto that has no problems whatsoever.

Candyman (2021) - The Art World Can Be Murder - Black History Month 202202 Mar 202201:41:35

Who can take an icon? Make it CGI? Barely show the the villain and have us all just screaming why? The Candyman (2019) can. We finish Black History Month with a return to Cabrini Green, as the Candyman refuses to be forgotten in the Nia Dacosta 2019 sequel to the original Clive Barker film. not as painful as Beloved, and not as good as the original, this falls in the middle for us. We definitely have a lot to love about it but we also have some issues.

Beloved (1998) - Everyone Gets a Trauma - Black History Month 202222 Feb 202202:16:37

We deal with the heaviest episode of Black History Month as we near the end. This is Oprah Winfrey’s 1998 film, Beloved, based on true events.

If you were surprised to learn Oprah made a horror, then you’re like Mike. but damn she knocked it out of the park with this. Based on the novel by Toni Morrison, this shows how severe slavery had pushed some people, to the point where their pain would not die, even after death.

Vampire In Brooklyn (1993) - The Rise of Julius Jones - Black History Month 202215 Feb 202201:34:29

We continue Black History Month with the Eddie Murphy and Angela Basset comedy Vampire in Brooklyn, written by Charlie Murphy, directed by Wes Craven, and co-starring John Witherspoon (R.I.P to all), this film was derided by critics, and reasonably so. but it has some merits that withstood the test of time and has come to a higher degree of appreciation. We also cover black depictions in horror cinema through the 40’s and 50’s. Spoiler: it’s mostly not great. But there are some shining lights that get their due.
