| #71 – Rifts Atlantis Review | 06 Oct 2021 | 00:35:25 | |
Our trek through the Rifts World Book series continues with World Book 2: Atlantis! Another fantastic entry in the new (at the time) Rifts game line, this book gave everyone their first actual look at the foul Splugorth, who would still be recurring villains three decades later today. Atlantis has so much to offer, so if you're not yet familiar with it, give us a listen! Drop us a line! You can follow us on Twitter and Facebook, and we'd love to see you on our Discord Channel too. | #69 – A Look at the Splicers RPG | 29 Sep 2021 | 00:28:57
Responding to a request from our listener "jonesy" we are taking a deep look at a somewhat more obscure title from Palladium: the Splicers Role-Playing Game. In this Cronenberg-meets-Akira-meets-Gore-Police body horror setting, bio-organic supermen fight a losing war against a world-dominating Robot AI bent on extermination of the entire human race. Give us a listen, and then drop by on Discord and talk with us about your favorite Splicers game stories! One post-recording correction: We've just learned that there was another Splicers book in the form of an Adventure Sourcebook. Awesome! Also, in this and the following few episodes, I realized too late after the fact that my headphone cable was tapping against the mic stand and causing a really tiny but somewhat annoying sound. I've cut it out in most places, but it still comes through sometimes when I'm talking. I've since fix the issue, so after this batch it will sound a lot better, but for now I apologize if there is an annoying click in there. Drop us a line! | #68 – Other 90s RPGs that Inspired Us | 17 Sep 2021 | 00:35:22
Palladium's role-playing games have always been - and probably will always still be - our biggest RPG loves. But at the same time we were really getting into them, there were a number of other 1990s-era RPGs which had a huge impact on our imaginations. In this episode, we're taking an aside to talk about the biggest of those other games that also helped shape us into the tabletoppers that we are today. Drop us a line! | #67 – Rifts Wormwood Book Review | 15 Sep 2021 | 00:29:13
Now we dive into the line of spin-off "Dimension Books" for the Rifts Roleplaying game, starting with the official first of that line: Wormwood! Kicking the line off with a resounding crunch, Wormwood is an epic heavy metal, good vs evil, "hold a candle against the great dark tide" kind of campaign setting. There's a lot here to talk about, so give us a listen and then let us know your favorite parts of this weird action horror game world! Drop us a line! In this more conversational episode, we muse over ways to reconcile the contrast between the expectations of technology in Rifts - which was written largely in the late 80s and early 90s - and our own understanding of the technology of our modern 21st century world. We discuss things like computers, communications, electronics, and more. What's your preferred approach to this conundrum? Write us and let us know! Drop us a line! | #57 – A Look at the Rifts 30th Anniversary Limited Edition Hardcover | 04 Aug 2021 | 00:28:56
Since both of us recently acquired copies of the super-limited black-and-gold Rifts 30th Anniversary hardback edition, we're here (nominally) to review the overall book and its new content. In actuality we spend most of the time waxing nostalgic on how awesome the original content really is. Turns out neither of us had looked through the original Butts Edition in a lot longer than we remembered! If you also got your hands on one of these, drop into Discord and let us know your number! | #56 – Inspirational Fiction for Rifts | 01 Aug 2021 | 00:31:45
We're back to talk about inspirational fiction for helping you get into the "Rifts mindset!" When running any new RPG campaigns, we find that it can be super helpful to immerse yourself in as much relevant and tangential fiction as possible. Give us a listen to hear some of our favorites, and then write in and tell us your own suggestions! Sorry this one is a couple of days late! We had a breakdown with our internal file-sharing system that took a bit of time to work out, but it looks like all is back in order. Drop us a line! Just Jacob's guest run with us concludes (for now) with a guided look into one of the "oddities" among the Palladium catalog: RECON, the RPG of the Vietnam War. This one is interesting in that it is not part of the usual Megaversal system that connects most of their games. If you're interested in learning more about it, give us a listen! Drop us a line!
