Authorities in New York State have released new information about a suspected victim of the alleged Long Island Serial Killer, Rex Heuermann, known as "Asian Doe." The remains of this unidentified individual, believed to have been a biological male of southern Chinese descent, were discovered in April 2011 in Nassau County. The Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office announced that "Asian Doe" likely died from blunt force trauma and may have been involved in sex work prior to their death, which is estimated to have occurred during or before 2006.

Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney provided details during a press conference, stating, "Unfortunately, this victim suffered a violent death." He elaborated that the victim was found wearing women’s clothing, including a bra and a pair of women's pants, indicating that "Asian Doe" may have identified as a woman or was known as one by others. The victim is believed to have been between the ages of 17 and 23 at the time of death.

The remains were uncovered on April 4, 2011, along Ocean Parkway, where they had reportedly been for at least five years before discovery. To aid in identifying "Asian Doe," the DA's office released several facial reconstructions depicting what the victim may have looked like prior to their death, showcasing both male and female representations.

"We are hopeful that with this new information and the community's assistance, we will be able to identify 'Asian Doe' and bring a resolution to the case," Tierney said, emphasizing the importance of community engagement. In an effort to reach a wider audience, information regarding the victim has been made available in multiple languages, including Cantonese, Mandarin, Thai, and Bahasa Indonesian.

The investigation into "Asian Doe" comes as Heuermann faces serious allegations. Arrested on July 13, 2023, he has been charged with murdering six women, with the most recent charges announced in June of this year. The victims, including Megan Waterman, Melissa Barthelemy, Amber Costello, Maureen Brainard-Barnes, Sandra Costilla, and Jessica Taylor, have been linked to the Gilgo Beach murders, a series of killings that have haunted Long Island for over a decade.

While authorities have not definitively linked "Asian Doe" to Heuermann, the ongoing investigation has drawn attention to the possibility. When questioned about any connection, Tierney noted, "Each one of these victims is a separate crime scene. ... We don’t talk about it until we’re able to charge someone." He urged anyone with information regarding "Asian Doe" to come forward, stating, "The task force does not forget victims and we will not stop in our pursuit of justice."

A $2,500 reward has been offered for information leading to the identification of "Asian Doe." Those with relevant information are encouraged to contact Crimestoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.

A Queens pizzeria is causing quite a stir with its new line of T-shirts featuring the accused Gilgo Beach serial killer, Rex Heuermann. The shirts, created by Pizza on the Point in Breezy Point, playfully reference the method of Heuermann's capture, which involved DNA found on a pizza crust.

"The Pizza is Amazing," the shirts read. "But make sure you finish the crust — Rex Heuermann, Gilgo Pizza Connoisseur."

While the pizza joint’s owners defend the shirts as a slice of Big Apple humor, some customers find the joke to be in poor taste. "That’s dark!" commented Breezy Point retiree Paul Fallon. "That’s beyond dark. That’s tasteless, and tasteless is not a good thing for a pizza parlor."

Customer Samantha K also expressed her disapproval. "Oh my God, take the picture off," she said. "It might be funny for some people but it’s really inappropriate. They should definitely take his picture off! That is some dark, dark humor."

The idea for the shirts came from the pizza shop’s owner, local restaurateur Tom McGoorty. Chef Stefano Ballato, who spoke on behalf of the shop, explained, "He has a very good sense of humor. He had them printed by his friends. He was born and raised here in Breezy Point."

Pizza on the Point is a popular eatery in Breezy Point and is known for its laid-back atmosphere. "Most of the people here are relaxed," Ballato said. "If you go to Manhattan, you can’t make nobody happy. Always someone finds a problem, a way not to be happy. They don’t appreciate nothing funny. Not here, no worry in the world. They’re all good here."

Ballato mentioned that the pizzeria has been giving the shirts away to regular customers and might start selling them due to their growing popularity. "This is America," he said. "The tragedy becomes comedy after time, like Saturday Night Live."

Despite the controversy, many customers find humor in the situation. "I think it’s hilarious," said customer Alyssa Kotzman. "I really like the way the shirt was laid out. Now that I know I’m definitely going to eat the crust!"

Another local, a municipal worker who only identified himself as Brian, also appreciated the humor. "It’s funny," he said. "It’s a little dark. Dark humor, but definitely New York humor."

Breezy Point local Chris Reed agreed, adding, "It doesn’t bother me. You gotta make fun of things. You can’t always be a tight ass."

Rex Heuermann, a married Massapequa Park architect, is charged with killing six sex workers who went missing as early as 2000. Their bodies were discovered along a desolate stretch of waterfront along Ocean Parkway. The cases went unsolved for over a decade until Heuermann’s arrest last year, which was partly due to DNA evidence found on a pizza crust.

As the debate continues, Pizza on the Point remains at the center of a discussion about the limits of humor and the appropriateness of making light of a serious criminal case.

Keith Jesperson, the notorious "Happy Face Killer" who is serving multiple life sentences for the murders of eight women, has reportedly been corresponding with Rex Heuermann, a man accused of being the Gilgo Beach Killer. The two men are currently incarcerated, and Jesperson has been offering Heuermann advice on how to handle his case.
According to the Daily Mail, which obtained some of the correspondence, Jesperson has been urging Heuermann to confess to the murders of three sex workers. Jesperson believes this would be the best course of action for Heuermann, as it would allow him to avoid a trial and the media attention that would come with it. Keith Jesperson, a convicted serial killer who is serving multiple life sentences in prison, has been corresponding with Rex Heuermann, a man accused of being the Gilgo Beach Killer.  Jesperson has been advising Heuermann on how to handle his case, suggesting that he confess to the murders and avoid a trial.
In a letter to Heuermann, Jesperson wrote, "The message I'm sending him is to own it." He also said that Heuermann should confess to avoid the spectacle of a trial and to try to get to prison quickly, where conditions would be better than in jail.
Heuermann thanked Jesperson for his advice and said he is considering it. "I do understand what you have said and taken it to heart," Heuermann wrote back.
In addition to advising Heuermann on how to handle his case, Jesperson has also been offering him insights into life in prison. He has told Heuermann that prison food is better than jail food, and he has also offered to provide Heuermann with other information about prison life.
Heuermann has expressed his gratitude to Jesperson for his help. "They have been a help and comfort to me," Heuermann wrote in one letter.
It is still unclear whether or not Heuermann will follow Jesperson's advice and confess to the murders. However, Jesperson's correspondence with Heuermann is sure to raise questions about the relationship between serial killers and the justice system.
Heuermann is currently awaiting trial for the murders of three sex workers. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges, but Jesperson believes he should be honest about what he did.  Only time will tell what the outcome of Heuermann's case will be.
