What If Life Itself Is the Medicine? with Dr. Cassie Wuthrich20 May 202601:54:26

What if the most powerful medicine you need is not another supplement, lab test, or treatment—but your own life?

In this deeply transformative episode of the FWD Think Tank Podcast, I sit down with the brilliant and thought-provoking Dr. Cassie Wuthrich for what can only be described as a master class in healing, intuition, and the art of trusting the body's innate wisdom.

Unlike a traditional Q&A interview, this conversation unfolds more like a poetic teaching. And I decided to sit back and listen and let this goddess of a human share her magic that can truly transform the way we go about healing. Dr. Cassie shares profound insights on why life itself can be our greatest medicine, and how true healing often begins when we stop chasing endless protocols and start listening to the intelligence already within us.

If you've ever felt:

  • Burnt out from trying every supplement, treatment, or wellness trend
  • Overwhelmed by conflicting health advice and "expert" opinions
  • Stuck in analysis paralysis, believing you need more data before you can heal
  • Exhausted from being on the healing hamster wheel despite doing "everything right"

...this episode is for you.

Dr. Cassie explores why she no longer relies heavily on supplements in her practice, how each person is truly an N of 1 when it comes to healing, and why wellness is about far more than IV therapies, medications, surgeries, and interventions designed to force the body into a response.

Instead, she invites us into a radically different perspective: that the body is not broken—it is communicating.

This rich and expansive conversation is filled with storytelling, wisdom, and truth that challenges the modern health paradigm and offers a more intuitive, embodied approach to healing. In this episode, we discuss:

  • Why life itself can be magical medicine
  • The hidden cost of over-relying on supplements and protocols
  • Healing burnout and the trap of "doing more"
  • Trusting your body's innate wisdom
  • Why every individual is an N of 1
  • Moving beyond analysis paralysis
  • Intuition, storytelling, and the deeper meaning of illness
  • How to stop forcing healing and start receiving it

Whether you're navigating chronic illness, recovering from cancer, struggling with burnout, or simply seeking a more meaningful relationship with your health, this episode will leave you feeling grounded, inspired, and profoundly hopeful.

🎧 Tune in and discover how healing may begin not with doing more—but with listening more deeply.

This Non-Drug Treatment Is Helping People Heal from Depression, Anxiety & OCD with Hannah Lynch, Psychiatric NP28 Apr 202601:09:09

What if there was a way to treat depression, anxiety, and OCD—without relying solely on medication?

In this episode of The FWD Think Tank Podcast, I sit down with one of my closest friends, Hannah Lynch, Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner and Founder of Onward Psychiatry located in Norwood Massachusetts, to break down the science and real-life impact of Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) therapy—a non-invasive, FDA-approved treatment that’s changing the landscape of mental health care for both adults and adolescents.

If you or someone you love has felt stuck, frustrated, or unsupported by traditional approaches like medication or talk therapy alone, this conversation offers a powerful new perspective on what healing can look like.

We dive into:

  • What TMS therapy actually is and how it works to stimulate brain activity
  • How TMS supports neuroplasticity and the brain’s ability to heal itself
  • Who is a good candidate for TMS treatment
  • What sessions feel like + how long treatment typically lasts
  • The side effects and benefits of TMS vs. medication
  • Why medication doesn’t always move the needle for mental health
  • How to find a TMS provider near you
  • Why therapy + lifestyle changes still matter in the healing process
  • Where to start if you're struggling with depression, anxiety, or OCD

This episode is for anyone looking for alternative mental health treatments, deeper understanding, and real hope when it feels like nothing is working.

Hannah brings both clinical expertise and compassion to this conversation, and I’m so excited to share this with you.

Metabolic Nutrition for Cancer Care & Healing with Jen Nolan of Remission Nutrition04 Nov 202501:10:59

In this episode, I sit down with Jen Nolan, Nutritional Oncology Consultant and founder of Remission Nutrition, to explore the powerful connection between metabolic health, blood sugar balance, and cancer care. Jen shares her expertise on how metabolic flexibility—the body’s ability to efficiently switch between fuel sources—plays a key role in preventing and healing from chronic disease.

We discuss the relationship between carbohydrate intake, inflammation, and disease progression, and why balancing blood sugar is essential for both prevention and healing. In her work as a nutritional oncology consultant, Jen more often than not recommends carbohydrate restriction and/or getting her clients in ketosis for optimal results that can also complement treatment. Jen also emphasizes the importance of addressing stress, emotional health, and mindset as critical components of any healing journey.

Jen and her team at Remission Nutrition work with clients around the world to create personalized, functional nutrition plans that support the body’s innate ability to heal. Using tools like the Nutrition Genome test and other functional lab testing, they tailor each plan to the individual’s genetic and metabolic profile—meeting clients exactly where they are in their journey.

If you’re interested in understanding how nutrition, lifestyle, and metabolic health intersect to create a foundation for healing, this conversation is full of science-backed insight and compassionate wisdom.

Living with Chronic Illness: Nitika Chopra on Myasthenia Gravis, Nervous System Healing & Persevering Through Health Challenges 28 Oct 202501:01:53

This week I had the honor of sitting down with the delightful Nitika Chopra — founder of Chronicon and The Chronicon Foundation,  a pioneering platform and nonprofit uplifting those living with chronic illness through community, advocacy, and education. A seasoned host, speaker, and entrepreneur, she’s collaborated with brands like Google, Microsoft, and Bristol-Myers Squibb, hosted a globally distributed talk show, and now leads Truth Talks via her publication The Truth Today.

Her mission: to create healing spaces where people are empowered to live fully and thrive—on their terms, and truly a beautiful human who has navigated most of her life living with multiple (and at times debilitating) chronic illnesses — to discuss her journey navigating these health challenges, how her pain turned to purpose in her work, and why she believes your challenges in life are not the WHOLE truth of who you are.

Nitika shares her personal journey of being diagnosed with psoriasis at a young age, later developing psoriatic arthritis, and most recently, being diagnosed with myasthenia gravis, including symptoms she was experiencing and how her diagnosis She opens up about the early symptoms she experienced, how she’s learned to listen to her body, and the healing practices that have supported her — from therapy and learning about nervous system regulation to creating safe, empowering spaces for others through her foundation, Chronicon.

We explore how her struggles led her to create Chronicon, a movement and community for people living with chronic illness, and her Life Mastery program that helps individuals reclaim joy, purpose, and connection even in the midst of health challenges. We also discuss the importance of the relationships in her life and how those have helped her persevere during challenges with her health and the hard days.

Whether you live with chronic illness yourself or support someone who does, this conversation is filled with wisdom, compassion, and hope.

This conversation touched my heart personally, as Nitika was the first person I have interviewed who has been diagnosed with myasthenia gravis, an autoimmune condition that has also affected me the last two years. She is a true inspiration and example that so much goodness is possible despite our challenges we face. See below resources for how to get in touch with Nitika.

For nearly two decades, Nitika has paved the way as a changemaker in both the wellness and chronic illness landscapes. Her work transcends diagnosis—offering space, strategy, and spirit for anyone seeking to live a more liberated and meaningful life

Tips for Anxiety, Overwhelm & Mental Health from Two Millennial Therapists w/ The Founders of Peace Project07 Oct 202500:50:35

Andrea Rockefeller & Casandra Musemeci are the Co-Founders of Peace Project Mental Health Counseling, located in Rochester, NY where they work with Millennial women navigating the anxiety of being millennials in 2025.

As a HUGE advocate of supporting your mental health on any healing journey you find yourself facing, this conversation around emotional wellness and mental health support was so important to me to have here on the platform. In this episode, we discuss:

-Benefits of therapy and why it's not something you only should seek when something is "wrong"

-Tips for managing anxiety, setting boundaries, regulating your nervous system, and not identifying with your emotions

-How "people pleasing" can often lead to seeking of approval while setting boundaries

-Why seeking therapy while managing a chronic illness can be helpful for your healing journey

-How social media can be both beneficial and detrimental to your mental health, depending how you use it

-The importance of the PAUSE

& so much more!

The amount of personal growth I have seen in myself by utilizing therapy and working on my psychological wellbeing are SIGNIFICANT, and I have no doubt that Andrea and Casandra are helping women not just gain emotional self-awareness and relationship boundaries in their day to day lives, but they are helping their patients create awareness around what it truly means to support your mental health and helping them create lasting tools for managing their emotions and embracing a healthy life.

In addition to their private practice at Peace Project, they are also the creators of YourHumanTherapists, a platform dedicated to empowering fellow therapists to embrace their humanness and prioritize self-care through their free community, exclusive book club, and therapist-curated wellness space. Through their work, they emphasize the importance of “holding space for ourselves so we can better hold space for others.”

A Disability Doesn't Define You + Lessons in Growth After a Spinal Cord Injury with Jesi Stracham30 Sep 202501:07:54

Jesi Stracham was in a motor cycle accident over a decade ago causing a spinal cord injury that left her paralyzed and using a wheelchair. And she refused to let that disability define her by society's standards- she continues to redefine living with limitations and it is truly remarkable.

In this episode, Jesi and I dive deep into her journey living with a spinal cord injury; from finding God the night before her accident , why she believes it's important for wheelchair users to take care of themselves emotionally, physically and spiritually and how that has a SIGNIFICANT impact on your independence, how she uses holistic recovery therapies to heal her body, what it's like to author a book where she can unapologetically herself, and how working through her own BS and empowering herself to be better led her to find a loving relationship she never dreamed possible.

She is a HUGE advocate of mental health and shares mental health tips for people who are learning to live with a disability, why it's necessary to communicate with your support system during healing, and so much more.

This woman blows me away by her transparency on this journey and how authentically she shares the ups and downs of life with a disability on her social channels. In fact, she discovered by sharing a Youtube video having a meltdown on the floor in a hotel room where she was struggling with her disability just how powerful her voice is in this world. This moment changed everything.

Being able to sit with Jesi and share our struggles together and how we've overcome these situations and chosen to pivot and empower ourselves was something I didn't know my soul needed. Jesi is a HUGE inspiration to me, and I know will be for all of you.

Jesi Stracham is a soon to be author of her memoir Roll With Me, releasing in November 2025, and is a speaker, entrepreneur and advocate of transforming lives. She is the cofounder of Freedom Longevity + Wellness LKN, a co-developer of Wheel With me Adapt Fit, an adaptive fitness app for wheelchair users and she has an INCREDIBLY inspiring social media platform where she shares the raw and real truths of her healing journey.

How to Handle Curveballs in Your Healing Journey23 Sep 202500:28:07

Season 3 of the FWD Think Tank kicking off talking about how to handle the curveballs that life throws at you while on your healing journey. This was not an easy episode to record, as I have had some big hurdles the past few months. If you are on a cancer healing journey and find yourself faced with news you weren't hoping to hear, a scan result that brings emotional charges, blood work that isn't what you'd hoped to see, this episode is for you.

After spending some time off of social media after going through an unexpected second surgery this summer, I've put some thoughts together on how to help others navigate a health hurdle including focusing on facts first, processing and moving THROUGH your feelings and not internalizing them, the importance of protecting your peace and not oversharing your journey in the moment if that feels stressful for you, the NECESSITY of advocating for yourself because on YOU know your body, why it's important to relinquish control, move at your own pace and let God guide you forward when you feel like you can't do it on your own, and the importance of finding moments of JOY despite the heartaching moments of setback.

If this episode resonated with you, PLEASE share it. It means the world to me.

Never would I expect that my best friend since the age of 10 and I would share the experience of a cancer diagnosis in our 30's. Hillary truly saved her own life by noticing a spot on her self breast exam one day that ended up being words no one wants to hear: it's cancer.

In this episode, my beautiful resilient friend shares her story of navigating life, treatment, multiple surgeries and balancing motherhood during a pandemic.

She is incredible. Her positive outlook on life, her desire to seek the joy in the little moments, continue to stay active and show up for herself and her family despite the hard and mentally and physically challenging days, she kept one foot in front of the other.

I am continuously in awe of this woman and ALL she has navigated in life. Please let this be your reminder to do your self exams, listen to your body, and also to continue to find the joy in each and every day.

Doctors Didn’t Expect This—Stage 3 Lung Cancer in a 38-Year-Old Mom with Lauren Corcoran14 Apr 202601:03:23

What happens when a routine check-up turns into a life-altering diagnosis?

In this deeply personal and powerful episode, I sit down with Lauren Corcoran, a stage 3 lung cancer survivor who was diagnosed at just 38 years old—as a non-smoker and brand new mom to a one-year-old. What she initially thought was a lingering injury from getting back into the gym postpartum ultimately led to the shocking discovery of a tumor in her chest.

Lauren shares her full cancer journey—from the moment of diagnosis to navigating treatment, major surgery, and life on the other side. We dive into how she approached building the right medical team, learning to advocate for herself as a new mother, and making deeply personal decisions about her care based on trust, intuition, and individual needs.

In this episode, we also explore:

  • The rising trend of lung cancer in non-smokers and younger women
  • How Lauren chose a care team aligned with her values and built meaningful relationships with her doctors
  • What it looked like to uproot her life and move overseas to London during such a vulnerable chapter
  • The reality of undergoing complex surgery and long-term treatment
  • The power of support systems, partnership, and community during a health crisis
  • How motherhood shaped her resilience, perspective, and decision-making
  • Navigating “scanxiety,” survivorship, and life on ongoing medication
  • How losing friends to cancer has reshaped her outlook on life, gratitude, and presence
  • The evolution of her marriage and the strength she found in her relationship with her husband

Lauren’s story is one of resilience, perspective, and deep appreciation for life. She opens up about what it means to live fully—even in the face of uncertainty—and how she continues to move forward with strength, gratitude, and intention.

If you or someone you love is navigating a cancer diagnosis, this episode is a reminder that you are not alone—and that your voice, your choices, and your life matter deeply.

In this episode, I dive into my personal journey with therapy—what worked, what didn’t, and the lessons I’ve learned along the way. From learning to trust my gut instincts to understanding why finding the right therapist feels a lot like dating,

I explore how healing isn’t one-size-fits-all. If you’ve ever felt stuck in therapy, questioned your progress, or wondered if there’s something more out there for your mental health journey, this episode is for you.

Some of the most important lessons I've learned in therapy that have truly helped me heal? Trusting your gut instinct can lead you to the right choices and direction. Those instincts are there for a reason. Plus, YOU cannot change someone else. The only person you CAN change is yourself. Want to know more of those lessons? Tune in to find out more.

Organs, Emotions & Energy: How Traditional Chinese Medicine Can Heal the Body with Dr. Erin Kumpf 17 Jun 202501:16:30

Did you know your emotions correspond to different organs in the body, and there are specific times of day in which those organs are recharging? Fascinating, right?

In this episode, I sit down with my Acupuncturist, Dr. Erin Kumpf and pick her brain on all things Chinese Medicine. Chinese Medicine is an Eastern way of treating and viewing the body and is all encompassing- it doesn't just look at one specific ailment or symptom, but instead it aims to connect different areas of the body and helps get to the root cause by rebalancing and restoring Qi, our life force in the body.

Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine have helped me COUNTLESS times between balancing my hormones, reducing pain and inflammation in the body, helping rebalance my digestion, heal post-surgery, restore my nervous system and so much more, so I was ECSTATIC to sit with Erin and have this conversation.

We discuss ways in which our emotions can have an impact on our organs, the way these organ systems also relate to the different elements, how we can balance our symptoms with food, energy, and we even go through a breathing technique using QiGong practices that rebalance the organ systems with sound and color.

This episode is truly fascinating and I cannot wait for you to see why I love Erin OH so much. Dr. Erin Kumpf is a Doctor of Chinese Medicine (D.A.C.M), Licensed Acupuncturist (L. Ac) and Herbalist, and is one of my most treasured and beloved doctors and healers on this journey. I have had the honor of working with Erin for over six years. Convos w/ Dad: Mastering Your Mind, Healing Your Body & The Impact of my Diagnosis with Jim Forward10 Jun 202501:26:01

Meet My Dad, Jim Forward: the "OG Forward" as me and my sisters call him. My best friend, confidant, encourager, spiritual buddy and the one who has helped guide me in every major life decision.

Together in this conversation, we navigate and discuss my diagnosis, and the unique way that my Dad decided to show up and support me while navigating the healing process. We also talk about the Rosicrucians, a school he found at a pivotal point in his life where he was searching for something more, and this truly changed his life. We discuss why it's important to master our mental health, and how it is directly connected to our physical body and spirit, navigating challenging times in life, how music has been an influential piece of both of our lives and can help the healing process, and so much more.

This is such a special conversation for me, as I've always found my Dad to be someone who has had eternal wisdom to share, and now he's sharing not just with me, but with all of you.

My Dad has made such a profound influence on my life in many ways. Not only has he helped me navigate every chapter of life, but he's been an entrepreneur my entire life, the Founder of Forward Branding & Identity, a branding and packaging firm that inspired creativity in all of us girls at a young age to find our own creative outlets and think outside the box. He's a problem solver, and someone who always looks at life from a slightly unique perspective. He has continued his innovative vision now developing a platform called Behold, a global platform that brings together artist and art lovers, and will be something that we will discuss in a future episode.

Jim is one of the coolest guys I know, "Curious Jim" as I call him- always being inspired by the world around him, figuring out ways to make things work better, and also reminding us all to never lose that inner child and to play and have fun. A young-at-heart guy, he is a loving husband, awesome father to me and my two sisters, and a fun-loving "Papa Jim" to his grandkids.

I am releasing this episode right before Father's Day weekend- wishing all of the Dads and father figures out there a very Happy Father's Day, and the biggest shoutout to JIm- my number one guy, always, all ways. Love you forever Dad! What a blessing to have this episode and conversation as a keepsake. Thank you. You're the best!

Struggling with digestive issues, bloating, migraines, late night snacking and mystery symptoms you can't get to the bottom of? It MIGHT be a parasite.

This week, I am joined by Alicia Hickson, a Physician's Assistant and the Founder of Rayma Health - an integrative medical practice that specializes in cancer care, metabolic disease, autoimmune issues, cognitive health and so much more.

In this episode, Alicia breaks down signs and symptoms of parasites, what we can do to support our body's inner ecosystem or "terrain" to reduce these infections, and the connection between cancer and parasites and how they can co-exist in a diagnosis.

What's beautiful about this episode, is we also dive deep into the EMOTIONAL healing component of a cancering diagnosis, and why it is extremely important to heal that part of you and not ignore if you want true, full healing.

Alicia is BRILLIANT and has training from both a metabolic/integrative lens, working with Dr. Nasha, Dr. Seyfried and parasite training with Dr. Yu; and she also has experience in the conventional cancer care setting having trained in the mecca of cancer centers at MD Anderson.

Alicia is a breath of fresh air, a truly kind soul, and a brilliant practitioner who helps her patients get to the root cause of their health issues so that they can enjoy and live life to the fullest.

How Mushrooms Can Heal Your Brain & Boost Your Immunity + The Power of Community with Baris Sonmez27 May 202500:50:31

You may already know that mushrooms hold incredible benefits to your health, but did you know the quality of how they grow matters?

Meet Baris Sonmez, the owner and Founder of LIfeCap Farms, a mushroom farm in Jersey City. Baris started LifeCap in 2018 with a mission to connect the community through food, and give back to those in need. Baris and his team hold the HIGHEST standards for their mushrooms- with qualitative growing methods, and also intentional raw materials.

In this episode, Baris shares benefits of the top mushrooms he grows at the farm- Lion's Mane which can have incredible brain health and cognitive benefits working to repair the myelin sheath, Reishi which is great for immunity, reducing inflammation and improving sleep and relaxation, Turkey Tail which is a strong antiviral, anti-tumoral, great for digestion and can help boost your immune system, and more.

Baris offers CSA mushroom shares to those in the New Jersey area, and also offers mushroom tinctures through his website, which I have been LOVING for years now.

Mushrooms aside, this conversation was also a powerful reminder of the impact of community- and how we truly do all need each other as human beings. Such an honor to sit with this incredibly kind soul and have this conversation.

The Top 10 Life Lessons I Learned After a Cancer Diagnosis20 May 202500:39:34

When you receive a cancer diagnosis, the whole world as you knew it gets turned upside down. There are numerous lessons learns, heartbreaks, moments of weakness and strength and confusion and all the emotions in between.

In this episode, I discuss the Top 10 most important life lessons I've learned after receiving this diagnosis. Topics include the importance of trusting your gut with decisions, why rest is not weakness and how slowing down in life is absolutely necessary to heal your body, the importance of boundaries in your healing journey, why you are SO much more than your physical body as you go through changes during a health diagnosis like this, finding room for joy, the need to manage your STRESS, and so much more.

When we can step outside of ourselves and begin to see the life lessons we can learn and grow from in this experience, things become richer. Priorities shift. The little things become the big things and the things we once worried about fade away.

I hope that even if you do not have a diagnosis like this, you can begin to change your perspective on things in life that we worry about and focus on, and find ways to loosen the grip on your stress, support your mental health, enjoy life and find beauty in the little things.

Did you enjoy this episode? If so, make sure to FOLLOW the FWD Think Tank on Spotify to get alerted when new episodes release, leave a 5 star review or a comment, and share with a friend who may need to hear this message! It means the absolute WORLD to me!

Surgical Recovery Part 2: Patience, Humility, Slowing Down & Listening to My Body13 May 202500:33:16

Healing from surgery is anything but linear. There is both a physical and a mental/emotional aspect to it all, and through it I have had SEVERAL lessons including humility, practicing patience, and listening to my body in the moment to give it what it needs.

While everyone heals different from a surgery, I wanted to share my recovery process in hopes it might help someone who needs it. In this episode, I discuss meditations I did to help me mentally and also relieve my pain, physical things I did (stretching, massage, walks and also hydrodissection of the nerves to help my nerve pain; linked below) as well as what I had to surrender to- asking and receiving support, setting boundaries for my self in the healing process, going inward and doing self-check-ins, resting, and eating well to support my body's needs during this slow healing and recovery process.

If you or someone you know is about to go through a major (or minor) surgery, please share this episode with them. Sometimes we can be hard on ourselves for not being further along or healing faster in any type of life situation- but it is important we embrace the slowness, the stillness and the in between- for that is what life is all about!

From Pain to Purpose: Finding Joy Amidst a Cancer Diagnosis & Becoming Your Own Advocate with Kali Moynihan06 May 202501:23:36

When you receive a cancer diagnosis, it is truly one of the most life altering things that can happen to a person. It rocks your world, leaves you confused and if you're fortunate enough- allows you to reflect on life as you knew it and make some major changes so that YOU can create a life that supports your health.

When I first got diagnosed with a thymoma, I was SO BLESSED to find Kali Moynihan through Instagram, simply by searching "#thymoma" - she had documented her healing journey from not one, but TWO surgeries to remove her thymoma and a reccurence after having her son.

Kali is an absolute LIGHT in my life. Not only was she willing to connect with me and share resources, but since that time we've developed a friendship that not many others would understand. I am eternally grateful for her, and for her wisdom and courage to share her story.

Kali takes us through her journey from her original diagnosis at the height of the pandemic, going alone into the hospital and her first surgery, and finding the right support and resources on the other side of her surgeries to help her body TRULY heal.

She discusses the importance of advocating for yourself, finding functional medicine doctors that helped her get to the root cause of mystery illnesses and pain that she experienced for YEARS without resolution, and how things like mold exposure, inflammation and chronic pain may have contributed to her cancer diagnosis. She also discusses how she made radical changes to not just her diet, but her mindset, healed her nervous system, and changed her perspective on these lifestyle changes to make them FUN and part of her everyday life.

Kali is an example of radical healing, and I am so blessed to call her a friend and have her share her story here with you!

You can find Kali on Instagram @healwithcancer

I love you Kali! Thank you for your friendship and for sharing your story, I know this will make an impact on so many and inspire others to go inwards and support their health no matter where they are at in their journey.

Recovering from a Sternotomy and Thoracic Robotic Surgery: Part 129 Apr 202500:39:08

Recovering from thoracic & robotic surgery has been a MAJOR lesson in patience and releasing expectations, to say the least.

In this episode, I dive into all of the things I have been doing (or not doing!) to help heal my body during recovery. I touch on topics including sleep hacks and habits to improve my sleep during recovery, how I changed my eating habits to support my healing and tissue rebuilding, my mindset shifts I have made to help me release my expectations of how this should all look, and more.

Healing is certainly not linear, and as always I try to be as transparent as possible sharing what's working for me. If you or someone you know is going through surgical recovery or has an upcoming surgery, please share this episode! I hope to share this story of mine in efforts to help someone else heal. Using Light Therapy To Heal Cancer with Dr. Leonard Kaplan22 Apr 202500:52:30

Have you ever wondered if light can treat tumor cells? What about plant medicine?

This week, I bring Dr. Leonard Kaplan to the Think Tank, an incredibly skilled and talented Terrain Doctor I had the privilege of working with on my healing journey. Dr. Kaplan is the founder of OWM Integrative Wellness in Buffalo, NY offering cutting edge treatment for cancer care, pain management, regenerative and anti-aging services and more.

Dr. Kaplan and I discuss how he puts together completely individualized treatment plans for his cancer clients, using my own journey and program as an example, where we used Photodynamic Therapy- a Weber technology that uses lasers, light and plant medicine photosensitizing agents to target tumor cells and heal our body. It's all TRULY fascinating.

Being in the care of Dr. Kaplan and his team this year has TRULY been a unique experience that I am forever grateful for and it was such an honor to reconnect with him and share more about his expertise this week with all of you!

What’s Fueling the Rise in Cancer? Dr. Nasha Winters Explains31 Mar 202601:05:44

What if cancer is no longer just a disease of old age — but a reflection of the world we’re living in?

In this powerful and deeply personal episode of The FWD Think Tank Podcast, I sit down with Dr. Nasha Winters — a pioneer in the field of metabolic oncology, co-author of The Metabolic Approach to Cancer, and one of the leading voices challenging the conventional cancer conversation.

Together, we explore why the average age of cancer diagnosis is shifting younger, dropping from age 68 to 48, and the major lifestyle, environmental, metabolic, and emotional factors that may be contributing to that change.

Dr. Nasha also breaks down her groundbreaking concept of the Terrain 10 — the core drivers in our internal and external environment that influence whether the body is in a state of resilience, repair, and healing… or moving toward dysfunction and disease.

But this conversation goes far beyond science.

We also dive into Dr. Nasha’s own extraordinary healing journey after being diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in her 20s, and how that experience shaped the work she does today. We talk about the often-overlooked role of community, emotional healing, nervous system support, and plant medicines in the healing process — and what it really means to create a life that supports long-term wellness.

If you’re interested in integrative cancer care, metabolic health, cancer prevention, root-cause healing, emotional wellness, or the future of oncology, this is a conversation you do not want to miss.

  • Why cancer is affecting people at younger ages than ever before
  • The lifestyle and environmental factors driving the rise in chronic illness
  • What the Terrain 10 is and why it matters
  • How your body’s “terrain” can influence healing and disease processes
  • Dr. Nasha Winters’ personal story of navigating stage 4 cancer in her 20s
  • The role of community and support in a healing journey
  • Why emotional healing matters just as much as physical healing
  • The potential role of plant medicine in long-term wellness and recovery
  • How to think differently about healing, prevention, and resilience

Whether you’re navigating a diagnosis, supporting someone you love, or simply trying to better understand what it means to create health in today’s world, this episode offers both hope and perspective.

Listen now and share this episode with someone who needs to hear it.

The Surgeon Who Saved My Life with Dr. Robert J. Cerfolio08 Apr 202501:04:04

When I received my cancer diagnosis, I knew it was likely I would need surgical intervention. After interviewing multiple surgeons and being filled with fear over the outcome, I was BLESSED to find Dr. Robert J. Cerfolio, the Head of Clinical Thoracic Surgey at NYU Langone Hospital in NYC.

This man is TRULY incredible, and you'll see why he is one of my favorite humans. This man not only championed for my health on the other side of surgery, but he saved my life and forever changed the trajectory of my longevity by achieving a R0 resection on a very complex surgery.

This thoracic surgery involved essentially 2 surgeries: a sternotomy and a robotic surgery in the ribcage, and was certainly not easy and involved multiple surgeons.

What sets Dr. Cerfolio apart aside from his vibrant personality and big heart is his faith- his faith in something bigger than him to take on challenging surgeries with confidence and faith in a positive outcome.

He sees his patients as a whole person, not just a tumor, and his belief in mindset, physical health and nutrition to support both pre and post-operation efforts help to make his surgeries successful by supporting the patient's ability to heal their health.

I cannot wait for you to dive into this episode and see why I just adore this doctor. Dr. Cerfolio specializes in thoracic surgery- involving lung cancer, esophageal cancer, and cancers of the thoracic area including rare thymomas.

If you or someone you love is faced with a cancer diagnosis and is in need of surgery, I couldn't recommend this man more. He changed the game.

How I Prepared For Major Surgery 01 Apr 202500:27:55

Kicking off Season 2 of the podcast, I share how I prepared myself for major surgery to remove my thymic tumor on a mental, physical and emotional level.

This surgery, while very involved and something that had the ability to completely change my life for better or worse, was something I had been mentally preparing for for OVER a year.

In this episode, I discuss the journey of finding my beloved surgeon at NYU Langone, Dr. Robert Cerfolio, the confidence and peace of mind he and his team gave me to go into this surgery with a little less stress, and all of the preparation I did to prepare my physical body (strength training, nutrition) and emotional body (prayer, meditation, visualization and more) to allow my body to go into this long surgery in the best way possible.

While not everyone faced with a cancer diagnosis needs to opt for surgical intervention, there were many reasons that this was the case for my unique case. I couldn't be happier with the outcome and the team I had by my side at NYU Langone- truly changed the game for me in every way, including a successful surgery with quality of life that was not promised.

If you or a loved one is needing to opt for surgical intervention in their cancer care plan, I encourage you to find the right team that feels good for your nervous system- I promise it will change the game in the trajectory of your healing.

XO

Jamie

S1:E16: Metabolic Theory & Therapies for Healing Cancer & Chronic Disease with Dr. Janet Maendel 28 Jan 202501:16:26

Curious about how to support your cancer diagnosis with metabolic therapies? Heard about high dose vitamin C, mistletoe and hyperbaric chambers, but don't know where to start or why they're beneficial? This episode is for you.

I have worked with Dr. Janet one on one over the course of the last year + since my diagnosis. She is an incredibly intelligent, nurturing soul and has provided SO much comfort and wisdom to me.

She discusses more about the metabolic approach to cancer, how and why cancer is a metabolic disease, and dives deep into different metabolic therapies and how they help to heal the body, as well as why monthly lab work is important for showing trends into what processes are happening in the body, and how she approaches personalizing treatment plans for her patients.

Dr. Janet is also part of the Immunocine practitioner consultant team, a dendritic immune cell therapy based in Cancun, Mexico.

I am so grateful to have Dr. Janet as my FINAL episode of Season 1 on the FWD Think Tank.

This comprehensive approach utilizes advanced diagnostics, including blood chemistry, genomic analysis, toxicity profiling, hormone assessment, microbiome testing, and more, to create personalized strategies for optimizing therapies, food plans, detoxification protocols, and supplement regimens.

Janet’s work with The Metabolic Approach to Cancer empowers patients at every stage of their journey—whether as a preventative measure, in conjunction with conventional treatments like chemotherapy, radiation, or surgery, or during post-treatment recovery. By identifying and addressing the root causes that contribute to the growth and progression of cancer, Janet’s practice focuses on restoring balance and resilience to the body’s metabolic terrain.

She is a Certified Functional Medicine Practitioner (CFMP) and an Integrative Functional Medicine Practitioner (I.F.M.P.), with specialized training in functional medicine—a data-driven, systems-based approach that emphasizes understanding and treating the underlying causes of illness and nutrient deficiencies.

S1: E12 Year 2024 in Review: GRATITUDE 31 Dec 202400:47:45

Happy New Year's Eve, Friends! In this episide, I recap my year in review, highlighting the MANY blessings despite the challenges and setback that I was grateful enough to be surrounded with this year.

Between the love and support of my family and best friends, my healing community of business owners here in Jersey City and access to their healing therapies and modalities, the connections I have made through facing this diagnosis, and all of the other little glimmers along the way, it's worth the highlight.

When you are facing a health diagnosis, it can be NORMAL to feel isolated, feel pity for yourself, and to want to hide (trust me, all of these have felt VERY valid during this year too) but I've realized it's more important than ever to highlight the GOOD and the beautiful things that have happened along the way that have made this journey SO much more tolerable to navigate. I hope you take some time to create your own year in review and celebrate the wins and the growth and the miracles along the way.

S1: E11: The Metabolic Approach to Healing Cancer + Chronic Disease with Dr. Lori Bouchard18 Dec 202400:59:38

Looking to heal a cancer diagnosis or manage a chronic disease with a naturopathic approach? Maybe you've heard about the ketogenic diet and its benefits to managing cancer or a chronic illness, or perhaps you've thought about diving into fasting to help reduce your blood sugar or manage disease symptoms.

In this episode, I dive deep into the theory of understanding cancer and chronic illness as a metabolic dysfunction issue with my Naturopathic Oncologist, Dr. Lori Bouchard. Dr. Lori explains how naturopathic medicine varies from the approach of conventional medicine, and how the two can work together to help your body heal.

She also discusses how and why she uses therapies like keto, fasting and when and why she'd recommend these practices to her cancer patients (or not!). We also talk about reducing inflammation with diet, stress management and what can trigger a cancer diagnosis BEYOND the genetic variables. Our environment, stress, blood sugar, mental health, viral load and SO many other factors can create the "perfect storm" when it comes to a cancering process.

In the Metabolic Cancer Reset Program run by Dr. Lori, she provides naturopathic consulting and support to patients managing and navigating chronic disease. We discuss my experience in this program, AND Dr. Lori has been kind enough to offer a FREE 30 minute Strategy Call to anyone listening to this podcast that would like support around their health and healing journey.

I can't wait for you to listen to this episode! Such a special interview for me.

S1:E10 My Go-To Spiritual & Emotional Healing Tools 10 Dec 202400:44:32

When you're on a healing journey, whether that's from a cancer diagnosis, autoimmune disease or another chronic health condition, it is NECESSARY to focus on finding your inner peace, and that means prioritizing your emotional healing, your spiritual healing, and finding ways to tap into your inner peace.

Spiritual growth has been a journey for me over the last decade as I've dabbled in things like meditation, self-development, finding faith, and finding tools to help me practice resilience and recovery to stressful situations.

Over the last year, I've been incredibly blessed to be introduced to the work of Dr. Joe Dispenza, Louise Hay, and tools such as Vortex healing, Qi Gong and Chakra healing tools like tuning forks and reiki.

Above all, I think THE most important relationship we have in our lives is the one we hold within ourselves. If there is turmoil and toxicity there, it can prevent us from our ability to radically heal.

Join me as I share how I have shifted my self talk, my relationship with exercise and so much more to continue to provide my body the best ability and permission for radical, complete healing.

Sending love and light to those who need it, especially during the emotional holiday season! Check out the resource section below for tools mentioned.

With love,

Jamie

Stage 3C HER2+ Breast Cancer Story: How Sara Stratton Paired Conventional & Integrative Treatments and Exercise to Heal 17 Mar 202600:53:39

What happens when a Stage 3C HER2+ breast cancer diagnosis forces you to rethink everything you thought you knew about healing? In this episode of the FWD Think Tank Podcast, I sit down with Sara Stratton, Nutrition Oncology Consultant with Remission Nutrition and Certified Cancer Exercise Specialist, to talk about her powerful journey through breast cancer and how she discovered the metabolic approach to cancer while navigating treatment.Sara shares what was happening in her life leading up to her Stage 3C HER2+ breast cancer diagnosis, the early symptoms she experienced, and how she ultimately built a treatment strategy that blended conventional oncology care with integrative therapies. We dive into the growing conversation around metabolic health and cancer, and how Sara used both traditional treatment and lifestyle interventions to support her body through the healing process. One of the most powerful tools she discovered along the way? Exercise.Sara explains why movement and exercise during cancer treatment can play a critical role in recovery, resilience, and long-term health. As a Cancer Exercise Specialist today, she now helps others safely incorporate movement into their healing journey. We also discuss the reality of navigating hormone-blocking therapy after breast cancer, how she manages low hormones post-treatment, and why exercise has become a cornerstone of her personal wellness strategy.Perhaps the most empowering message from Sara’s story is this: there is no one-size-fits-all approach to cancer treatment. While doctors and specialists provide guidance, you are ultimately the captain of your own health journey, and finding the right protocol for your body is deeply individualized. If you or someone you love is navigating breast cancer, integrative oncology, metabolic cancer therapies, or lifestyle strategies for healing, this conversation offers both practical insight and powerful perspective.Topics We Cover• Sara’s journey through Stage 3C HER2+ breast cancer• Discovering the metabolic approach to cancer• Combining conventional cancer treatment with integrative therapies• Why exercise during cancer treatment can support healing• The role of movement in cancer recovery• Navigating hormone-blocking therapy after breast cancer• Managing low hormone levels post-treatment• Why cancer treatment must be personalized• How to become the captain of your own health journeyUse code "SARAJAMIE10" at checkout to receive 10% off a Starter Package with Sara at Remission Nutrition. S1: E9: Weird Things I Do to Heal My Body 03 Dec 202400:29:56

Putting coffee up your bum to detox your liver, entering a Hyperbaric Oxygen chamber to increase oxygen to my cells, injecting mistletoe plant to help shrink tumor cells, using heat therapies to sweat out toxins and increase lymphatic drainage... these are just a few of the "WEIRD" things I have incorporated into my routine under the guidance of Naturopathic Oncologists this year to help heal my cancer.

If you are looking into alternative therapies for healing cancer, and are not sure where to start, this episode is for you! I share insights into what I've learned by following the Metabolic Approach with Dr. Nasha Winters and working with her trained clinicians to help support my body in the healing journey from a holistic lens.

I truly believe leaning on this method of healing is what continues to keep my body in a healing state, and helps me energetically and mentally feel well. I hope this is helpful to you, please share it with someone who may be interested in learning more!

S1:E8: Going Keto to Heal C@nc#r26 Nov 202400:33:03

When it comes to healing cancer, nutritional ketosis can have a BIG impact! While personalized nutrition for cancer patients can vary case by case, examining your diet is an important piece of the puzzle, as is metabolic health. Studies have shown cancer cells can NOT survive on ketones.

In this episode, I dive into my experience with nutritional ketosis, tips for maintaining a keto diet while healing, and a bit more detail about the Metabolic Approach I am following by Dr. Nasha Winters.

S1:E7 Want a Better Life? Ask BETTER QUESTIONS! with my Husband, Nick Mazza19 Nov 202400:33:27

Want a better life? Start by asking yourself BETTER, EMPOWERING QUESTIONS. If you are struggling to make change in your life, feeling like you’re in a negative autopilot mindset, or find yourself feeling stuck in unsupportive patterns- this episode is for you!

Transformative thinking, self-development, and using the power of conscious thought, changing your state with movement and physiology, and training yourself to see the good in life is not something we are born programmed with, it is something we learn and something we must consciously choose.

In this episode, I bring back my most special guest, my husband as he shared some of the lessons he has learned over the years by studying Tony Robbins work to help with emotional mastery and helped him to create habitual behavior to change his focus and consciously as himself better questions to create better feelings and ultimately, a better life.

Nick has been a huge advocate for helping me overcome so much of my struggles with mental health over the years, and for that- I am so grateful. It hasn't been easy. As someone who struggled with anxiety and depression over the years, it took me a while to learn and really embody this habit. I gravitated towards the female thought leaders like Gabby Bernstein and Marie Forleo- and I share some of their nuggets of wisdom that stuck with me along this journey.

We hope you love this episode! Please share it with someone who may need to hear it and help them make changes in their life!

With love and gratitude,

Jamie

S1: E6 Tips for Setting Boundaries While Healing Cancer08 Nov 202400:30:03

Does hearing "So, what's the plan?" stress you out? Have a hard time saying "No" to events or people in your life while navigating a cancer diagnosis? This episode is for YOU! Setting emotional boundaries has been one of the biggest lessons on my healing journey. While they aren't easy, they are CRITICAL for your emotional wellbeing. A cancer diagnosis can stir up so many feelings for you and your loved ones, so it is important to establish boundaries and protect your energy so that you can heal. In this episode, I share how to approach conversations that can feel stressful, how to protect your energy during moments that may push your boundaries, why it's important to have "safe people" in your life, and how setting boundaries is self-care for your mindset, your nervous system, and your body's overall ability to heal. Sending love to you all! XO Jamie

S1:E5: The Time I Couldn't Breathe (Autoimmune Flare) 01 Nov 202400:30:16

This episode gets into the scary side effects of chemo on an autoimmune diagnosis of myasthenia gravis: something neither my Oncologist or I saw coming. I go into a bit of detail on why I took a hiatus from recording last week because the MG symptoms got to a point where it affected my breathing, which landed me in the hospital.

I also dive into my mindset on the path forward, and why it's so important to trust your gut, advocate for your health and ask for signs from a power bigger than you to guide these difficult decisions.

S1:E4: Why & How I Used Conventional Oncology with Dr. Ashish Saxena17 Oct 202400:51:53

In this episode, I sit with my conventional Oncologist, Dr. Ashish Saxena from New York Presbyterian in NYC for a conversation discussing the rare diagnosis of a thymic tumor, conventional chemotherapy medicine, navigating a diagnosis from a conventional chair, and more details about my specific (and unique) case.

You'll learn that while this may not have been my first choice in the healing journey, there was a very specific marker that gave indication to try this route.

Unfortunately, as you'll see in this episode, which was filmed during my 8th week of low dose chemo treatment, inflammation from the chemo triggered my autoimmune DX (myasthenia gravis) to flare, which for me- tends to first show in my eye, so I took it upon myself to record with a very Jamie twist ;)

I encourage anyone going through a diagnosis to create a team of doctors and healers that feel good for YOU! Finding a doctor who will (as much as possible) see eye to eye with you is important. Ask the hard questions. Get your answers, and make your decisions with all of the information at hand.

Grateful to have had this conversation as I hope it will help to educate many and spread more awareness about the rarity of thymomas.

Cheers to ALWAYS being your own advocate on your healing journey.

XO

Jamie

S1:E3: How I Stay Mentally Sane on this Healing Journey...10 Oct 202400:34:39

In honor of World Mental Health Day (which was a true coincidence and magical alignment of this episode drop) I am talking all about my own journey with mental health, a topic SO near and dear to me personally and professionally.

People often ask me how I'm staying so mentally strong or positive in this situation and the truth is-it's not always easy. The foundation of my strong mentality has been DECADES in the making, and has been shaped by mentors, therapy, meditation, and DOING the work. It is not easy, but it is worth it. In this episode, I share a lot of how I've been navigating the rollercoaster of emotions over the last year, and things I've done leading up to this year that have helped me to stay focused on the light in the darkness.

In this episode, I have a very special first guest interview with my husband Nick. Here we share the journey of going into the ER leading up to our diagnosis, as well as discussing the mindset and things that help keep us grounded in times of uncertainty, like my husband's unwaivering faith and our belief in something bigger than ourselves that helps provide peace and calm amidst the storm. Padre Pio Healing Prayer:

"Heavenly Father, I thank you for loving me. I thank you for sending your Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, to the world to save and to set me free. I trust in your power and grace that sustain and restore me.

Loving Father, touch me now with your healing hands, for I believe that your will is for me to be well in mind, body, soul and spirit. Cover me with the most precious blood of your Son, our Lord, Jesus Christ from the top of my head to the soles of my feet.

Cast out anything that should not be in me. Root out any unhealthy and abnormal cells. Open any blocked arteries or veins and rebuild and replenish any damaged areas. Remove all inflammation and cleanse any infection by the power of Jesus’ precious blood.

Let the fire of your healing love pass through my entire body to heal and make new any diseased areas so that my body will function the way you created it to function. Touch also my mind and my emotion, even the deepest recesses of my heart.

Saturate my entire being with your presence, love, joy and peace and draw me ever closer to you every moment of my life. And Father, fill me with your Holy Spirit and empower me to do your works so that my life will bring glory and honour to your holy name. I ask this in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ."

Amen.

Bible Verse: Matthew 7:24-27

“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”
24 “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. 26 And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand.27 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.

S1: E1: How Did This Happen to Me?27 Sep 202400:46:41

In my second solo pod episode, I dive in deeper into some of the underlying things happening in both my health and my life over the last decade, connecting the dots with my current diagnosis.

SO often I get asked what I think caused this. And while we may never know with 100% certainty, the work I have done over the last year with my naturopaths to assess my Metabolic Terrain and look under the surface at the root cause has truly opened my eyes to pieces of my journey that may have contributed to chronic inflammation, stress, hormonal imbalance and more- all that can be directly tied to this type of diagnosis.

I hope that you learn something from this, but most importantly- I hope this inspires you to be an advocate for your health, and not take lightly symptoms that may be happening with your health (even if they are considered "normal").

S1E0: The Birth of The FWD Think Tank (Candid Pilot)19 Sep 202400:23:10

Let the fun begin!

The creation of the FWD Think Tank has been an idea of mine for over four years now, and it's now coming to life!

In this episode, I share a bit of background about myself, my career as a Holistic Health Coach of over a decade, and- a dual diagnosis of both an autoimmune disorder and rare, thymic tumor that ultimately propelled me forward to get this podcast into the world.

Because of the "standard of care" protocol being eseentially unwritten in the case of a thymoma, I felt this was my chance to walk my talk, put myself in the driver's seat of my health and take my healing into my own hands.

Combining the best of both worlds with both conventional and (to my satisfaction and alignment) naturopathic oncology care, I am on a mission to fully heal, and share this healing journey with those who need to hear it.

Our modern world is plagued with stress, fatigue, multitasking and truthfully, too many "food like products" that our bodies are in a constant state of inflammation. Our country is in a health crisis, and I am on a mission to bring some of the thought leaders of the wellness industry, my own personal friends and healers, and some incredibly heroic individuals who have healed from their own diagnosis together to share information for how we can collectively heal.

Get ready for down to earth, raw and real conversations around healing, feelings, and being our own health advocates.

If you or someone you know is faced with a health care diagnosis of their own, please share this podcast. I look forward to connecting with you all, and truly thank you for being here and listening.

Vanessa Risetto on Self-Advocacy, Treatment & Healing from HER2+ Breast Cancer03 Mar 202600:52:47

What happens when a registered dietitian and healthcare CEO becomes the patient?

In this deeply candid conversation, I sit down with Vanessa Risetto, RD — CEO and co-founder of Culina Health — to share her personal journey through HER2-positive breast cancer, from the subtle signs that led to her diagnosis to the empowered, individualized path she took through treatment and healing.

Vanessa opens up about the early symptoms she knew weren’t right — even when doctors reassured her she was fine — and why trusting your intuition and advocating for yourself in the medical system can be lifesaving. Together, Jamie and Vanessa explore what it truly means to build the right cancer care team, ask better questions, and move beyond a one-size-fits-all treatment approach to find what aligns with your body and needs.

This episode also dives into the emotional and mental landscape of cancer: the overwhelm of conflicting “healing” advice, the pressure of doing everything perfectly, and why stress itself can become a hidden burden in recovery. Vanessa shares how her faith supported her resilience, how her relationship with food evolved after diagnosis, and why doctors — while essential — don’t always have every answer when it comes to whole-person healing.

You’ll also hear an honest conversation about survivorship realities: why well-intentioned words can miss the mark, why life must exist beyond illness, and how reclaiming normalcy is part of healing.

This is an empowering, nuanced discussion for anyone navigating cancer — or supporting someone who is — and a reminder that informed self-advocacy and individualized care matter deeply.

✨ In this episode, we discuss:
• Early signs and symptoms that led to Vanessa’s breast cancer diagnosis
• Trusting your intuition when doctors say you’re “fine”
• How to advocate for yourself in the healthcare system
• Finding and building the right cancer care team
• Personalizing treatment vs one-size-fits-all oncology
• Information overload and stress in the modern healing world
• The role of faith in coping with cancer
• Nutrition and eating habits after diagnosis
• Why doctors don’t always have every answer
• Living life beyond cancer and reclaiming normalcy
• What support actually feels helpful during illness

If you or someone you love is navigating breast cancer, survivorship, or medical self-advocacy, this conversation offers clarity, validation, and hope.
