In this episode of The Further, Faster Podcast, Christoph Klink sits down with Heike Freund, COO of Marvel Fusion. After ten years at McKinsey, Heike stepped away from consulting to build one of deep tech’s most ambitious ventures. Today, Marvel Fusion has raised nearly $400 million and is constructing a full-scale demonstrator facility in Colorado to commercialize laser-based fusion energy. Heike breaks down why fusion offers an infinite, safe, and carbon-free energy source with zero chain-reaction risk, setting it entirely apart from traditional nuclear power. She shares why Marvel Fusion chose laser technology over magnetic approaches, how public-private partnerships accelerate deep tech, and why European startups must get creative to bridge early-stage capital gaps.Looking ahead, Heike makes a compelling case: discussing fusion today is like talking about AI in 2013. She urges corporate leaders to ask themselves now how cheap, unlimited energy will transform their industries over the next decade.
