Today’s guest is Pegleess Barrios, a first gen Latina in Tech based in Ottawa. Pegleess has done some very cool things in her career! She founded the Latine Employee Resource Group (ERG) at Shopify while being in a junior role within the company, she is the co-founder of Latinas in Tech Canada chapter, and she built meaningful relationships that led to advancing in her career. But it wasn’t an easy path. We talked about crying in the bathroom, dealing with being rejected from 13 internal jobs, and how she found strength to keep going. We also talked about Pegleess’ involvement with Latinas in Tech Canada and the importance of community. Lastly, we talked about how first gens with no tech experience can transition to the tech industry, and whether it’s even still a good time to make this transition, given all the layoffs of the past year.
