If the name Daniel Brühl doesn’t ring a bell – which it should –, then here are some films he has been in: Good Bye Lenin! (2003), Inglourious Basterds (2009), Rush (2013), Captain America: Civil War (2016), and The Alienist (2018), only to name a few. You might also know Albrecht from epic films such as System Crasher (2019) or Berlin Alexanderplatz (2020), and Edward from Eden (2022).
In their conversation, Ed chats about
- finding a cinematic language with the DOP
- getting through rough days on set
- telling a story from your POV
- adapting a novel
- learnings from shooting battle scenes
… while Daniel & Albrecht talk about
- what helps them get into the role
- choosing the right projects
- the importance of the film’s message
- acting techniques
- how directing influenced Daniel’s work as an actor
It’s needless to say that it has been an absolute blast chatting with these three legends. So what are you waiting for? Sit back, relax and listen to our epic chat with Daniel Brühl, Albrecht Schuch & Edward Berger.

| Distribution, streaming platforms and filmmaking with director, producer and Tello owner Christin Baker | 19 Sep 2022 | 01:08:57 | |
Today, we’re back with a regular episode. And yet this episode couldn’t be any better as our host Giles Alderson welcomes producer/writer/director Christin Baker to the show. She is also the co-founder of the Emmy-nominated streaming platform Tello, which focuses on stories for the lesbian/queer community. Their 2017 series “Secs & EXECS” earned an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Actress in a Short Form Comedy or Drama Series for Austin Powers actress Mindy Sterling. Also, in 2019, their series Riley Parra received two Emmy nominations for actresses Liz Vassey and Carolyn Ratteray.
The SVOD platform has a wide library of the best LGBTQ+ women's titles and thousands of paid subscribers. The majority of their million-dollar revenue goes back to filmmakers, enabling them to make more shows. Christin has been playing with video production and storytelling since she was 13 after her family got their first VHS camcorder.
In 2016, she was awarded Best Director at the London Raindance Film Festival for her work on Maybelle, a series that follows the story of a 35-year old gay woman in the south after the death of her mother.
Over the last four years, as an indie producer, she has made five features on SAG Ultra Low Budgets, but she believes the storytelling quality is as high as anything on Netflix.
In her conversation with Giles, Christin chats about:
finding investors
crowdfunding
turning a web series into a feature film
setting up her streaming platform Tello
making LGTBQ+ films
directing feature films
sales agents
predatory distributors
Cannes
Christin was very insightful about her process. This episode is an absolute masterclass in production and distribution – a must-hear for any filmmaker working in the independent world. So, sit back, relax and listen to our amazing chat with the fantastic Christin Baker.

| How to make your (debut) Feature, going from Shorts to Music Videos to Features with Kate Dolan – Writer/Director of You Are Not My Mother | 25 Apr 2022 | 00:56:56 | |
Today, we welcome writer/director Kate Dolan to the show to tell us all about her highly successful and inspiring filmmaking journey that lead her to make her debut feature, You Are Not My Mother (2022).
Kate chats with our host, Giles Alderson, about how she started out as an art director and learned from others on set. She talks about what she learned from directing children, how making short films and screening them at festivals – including Berlinale – got her an agent, and whether she thinks that short films still work as calling cards when you haven’t made a feature film yet.
She also discusses how her debut feature You Are Not My Mother came about, her writing process, why the early inclusion of her 1st AD and her editor made her script better, and why it’s so important to build a relationship with your actors and your crew.
Kate is an absolute inspiration. You don’t want to miss this. So, sit back, relax and enjoy this week’s episode with Kate Dolan.
YOU ARE NOT MY MOTHER is out now!
