Sickness With a Side of Fries: The SAD State of U.S. Hospitals | Dr. Roxanne Becker24 Oct 202400:36:39

Americans say there is no place for the likes of McDonald's and Chick-fil-A in hospitals.

The giants of fast food are serving greasy, fatty, artery-clogging foods in the same building where patients are receiving artery-opening stents and pacemakers. Often these lifesaving surgeries are just a floor or two above where the unhealthy combo meals are being served up.

In a way it's like having an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting above a bar. It just doesn't make sense.

Eating fast food four times a week may increase heart disease risk by 80%, according to one study.

So, why is it happening?

Dr. Roxanne Becker joins "The Weight Loss Champion" Chuck Carroll on The Exam Room Podcast to talk about the findings of the hospital survey that revealed mounting frustrations with the state of hospital food.

Clean Food Dirty Girl | Molly Patrick15 Oct 202400:55:52

Molly Patrick is a self-described dirty girl who loves to eat clean.

Her path to healthy living is unique to say the least, but it has also helped her transform thousands of others into the healthy bodies they've always desired.

Molly grew up living off the land. Her parents fashioned their home out of mud, straw, and rocks. They did not have electricity, hot water, or indoor plumbing. It was truly an 18th century way of life in modern times.

Interestingly, Molly has never eaten meat. Her passion for healthy eating was developed early. Yet, she still struggled with health in other areas. She has overcome addictions to cigarettes and has been sober since 2015.

This is certainly one of the most unique stories ever told on The Exam Room Podcast.

"The Weight Loss Champion" Chuck Carroll sits down with the Clean Food Dirty Girl, Molly Patrick, for an unforgettable tale of health on The Exam Room.

One Twin Goes Vegan, One Does Not: 8 Weeks, Big Results | Dr. Christopher Gardner12 Sep 202400:42:09

The premise: 22 sets of healthy twins are put to the test. One identical twin begins to eat an entirely plant-based diet while their sibling eats a meaty omnivorous diet.

While 70% of the diets were identical, 30% of the omnivorous diet was comprised of meat and other animal foods. It would be that 30% that proved the difference maker in terms of the cardiometabolic health of the twins.

In just eight weeks the changes were nothing short of astounding.

On average, the twin eating the plant-based diet lost an additional four pounds, lowered their LDL ("bad") cholesterol by 15 points, and experienced a 20 percent improvement in fasting insulin compared to their meat eating sibling.

Go inside the remarkable study that was the basis for the hit Netflix documentary You Are What You Eat.

Nutrition scientist and Stanford professor Christopher Gardner, PhD, is one of the lead researchers of the study. He outlines the findings and takes you behind the scenes of the documentary when he joins "The Weight Loss Champion" Chuck Carroll on The Exam Room Podcast.

Topics Discussed

- Telomeres lengthening with plant-base diet

- Genetics, biological clocks, and aging

- Cholesterol effects on twins

- Challenges of the study

- Responding to criticism

- And more

This episode was recorded at the International Conference on Nutrition in Medicine in Washington, D.C.

Olive Oil Overhyped? Expert Study Finally Reveals The Answer | Dr. Monica Aggarwal03 Sep 202400:34:38

The truth about olive oil and your health is becoming clear.

The results of a well-designed randomized clinical trial yield the answer to a puzzling question: Is olive oil healthy?

The lead researcher, Dr. Monica Aggarwal, discusses what she calls "provocative data" gathered from the study. Would olive oil still prove to a healthy food if all participants were eating a healthy whole food, plant-based diet instead of the standard diet, which is often lower in nutrients and higher in fat?

While the study admittedly has limitations, the results unequivocally demonstrated that olive oil may not be as healthy as many believe.

Dr. Aggarwal joins "The Weight Loss Champion" Chuck Carroll with the findings.

Huh? Fat From Milk Doesn't Count?! | Dr. Yami and Andrew Binovi23 Jul 202400:36:21

Fat in milk does not count. That's great news for dairy lovers!

Unfortunately, it's simply not true and the science just doesn't add up. Yet, that is the premise of new legislation that would return whole-fat milk with 5 grams of saturated fat per serving, representing a quarter of an entire day's limit, to school lunches across the United States.

While the fat from the pizza, hamburgers, french fries, and other food on cafeteria trays is totaled up, the largest source of saturated fat is being totally disregarded. Why is that?

Double-board-certified pediatrician Dr. Yami and Andrew Binovi, director of government affairs for the Physicians Committee, join "The Weight Loss Champion" Chuck Carroll to discuss the bill and why fat in milk is being ignored.

The nutrition numbers don't add up, but the rates of childhood diseases are mounting.

Finding Purpose In Prison: Healthier Body and Mind | Alana Moor09 Jul 202401:27:15

One mistake would change Alana Moor's life forever. She was sentenced to 4.5 years in prison in a foreign country that was thousands of miles from her home and everyone she knew and loved.

Although isolated and stripped of her freedom, it was there that Alana began to find a healthier path forward.

The food in the Panamanian prison system would routinely cause her to fall ill. On a few occasions it even required a trip to the hospital.

Alana's journey to healing began with her pushing for healthier food options and leading daily exercise classes for other inmates. Through that she found self-empowerment and a sense of worth that had been lacking.

And today she is working with one of the largest plant-based event companies in Canada while continuing to champion healthier options for those who remain incarcerated.

She joins "The Weight Loss Champion" Chuck Carroll for an incredible story of rebuilding strength from the ashes of despair.
