Relocating to Dubai - learning about the UAE market21 Dec 202300:23:31

Paul and Megan from the ESPC Property Show podcast are joined by Marie O'Neill, a relocation expert based in Dubai. Marie talks about the process of relocating to countries in the UAE, and the advantages of doing so. She explains that the economy is stable and the low taxation makes Dubai a desirable place to call home.

We learn that property is also much more affordable than in other major cities, with three times the size for the same amount of money. The process of buying a property is relatively quick and stress-free, with cash buyers able to complete the process in one to two weeks and those looking for a mortgage able to do so in four to six weeks.

Q&A with Paul & Megan on the property market, where to buy and what's in the ONS basket of goods?26 Oct 202300:26:09

Paul and Megan discuss various topics related to buying property, answering questions from their listeners. They emphasize the importance of seeking professional advice from a solicitor-estate agent, especially for first-time buyers. The conversation also delves into the "basket of goods" used to measure inflation, highlighting the addition of items like tortilla wraps, video doorbells, and frozen berries due to changing consumer trends.

They recommend speaking to mortgage brokers for comprehensive market analysis when buying a home and encourage prospective buyers to explore up-and-coming areas. Leith, in particular, stands out as a thriving location in Edinburgh, attributed to its increasing demand and investment. They also reminisce about their visits to Dunfermline and the Scottish Borders, acknowledging the changing property landscape, with more people seeking homes away from urban centers due to remote work opportunities.

Economics Revisited16 Oct 202300:31:09

In this podcast episode, Paul and Megan are joined by Debbie Hair (Investment Manager, Evelyn Partners). They delve into various economic and financial topics, starting with inflation and its implications, touching on both short-term and long-term trends, emphasising the importance of considering environmental, social, and governance factors when evaluating companies for investment, particularly in the context of climate change.

The discussion also covers quantitative easing (QE) and the role of central banks, such as the Bank of England, in managing monetary policy. Debbie explains that while the need for QE may decrease with economic growth, it could still be used in the future to stabilize economic conditions.

We also discuss the 2% inflation target and its somewhat arbitrary nature, with a focus on the credibility it brings to economic policies. Megan & Paul also inquire about investment strategies for first-time buyers, as well as gold as an investment option. We wrap up by discussing the market's future, with a focus on maintaining stability and the central banks' policy of "higher for longer."
