Soozie Eastman became a guinea pig so that you don't have to. The "Overload" director put herself through four rounds of blood tests and a 30-day detox to learn what happens when the body is cleaned of some of the thousands of chemicals that end up in it — from the first day of life!  Even as someone who was paying attention to what she put in her body, Eastman said she felt like she didn't have the information she needed to make some critical decisions before starting a family.   So she gave away a lot of her blood and spent $12,000 on lab diagnostics to test her levels for 419 of the most commonly used chemicals. Many of these chemicals are parabens and phthalates, the products that go into fragrances, plastics, and cosmetics. Then there are the toxins that end up in the environment around us, whether through manufacturing of carpets, wall paint, and pesticides.   Spanning a timeframe that included a pre-discovery period and a 30-day detox, and a post-detox follow-up, Eastman tested again and again. Not only did she learn that some toxins can quickly be cleaned from the body — and chemical levels can go up as toxins prepare to exit the body — but ​that consumers do have a little bit of control over their choices. Eastman found that a little bit of light at the end of the tunnel is not an oncoming train. Consumers can focus not just on their one-time cleanse but also on their consumer power and make informed decisions about what they bring into their homes, put on their bodies, and feed themselves and their families.  And the cherry on top: Living a greener life or a little bit leaner is not nearly as expensive as the consumer products industry would have you believe. In fact, alternatives to common household products are very similar in price.   Doctors say 80 percent of our illnesses are tied to environmental causes, which can be a very scary situation. "While documentaries are fascinating, they sometimes can leave many people feeling a little hopeless, overwhelmed, or frustrated about what to do. Overload" is a fun film to watch despite the challenging subject.  It is hightly empowering and Eastman's story offers a toolkit for people to follow so they can become advocates for themselves without the feeling of gloom and doom.  In this Q&A, Eastman suggests starting by picking one silo of exposure — bathroom products, cleaners, makeup, or wherever is easiest for you — and tackling the products list one at a time. You don't even have to throw away the bad products. You already purcahsed them and the landfill doesn't need them. Finish them up and then make a clean start with each replacement. Over time, the changes add up and your body will feel the difference.  Skip doing your own laboratory tests or spending a fortune to learn what your levels are. "Protection Against Radiation is in Conflict with Science" by Dr. Franz Adlkofer, former Executive Director, VERUM Foundation for Behaviour and Environment. It is well known that findings in conflict with industrial policies require decades of research and discussion until they are finally accepted. One example is the area of cell phone radiation research. The assertion made in the 1950s that there are no effects of radio frequency electromagnetic fields besides the thermal ones, as such an assumption contradicts the laws of physics, is until today successfully defended by the cell phone industry on purely economic reasons. Cell phones are a ubiquitous part of our lives. But, several new, independent studies confirm previous findings that pulsed digital signals from cell phones disrupt DNA, impair brain function and damage sperm.

Fetuses, children and teens are particularly vulnerable such that the American Academy of Pediatrics sent a letter to Federal Communications Commission asking for a review of the exposure limits.

The Government Accountability Office (GAO) recently issued a Report calling for an update of cell phone exposure limits. The GAO recommended, "FCC should formally reassess and, if appropriate, change its current RF energy exposure limit and mobile phone testing requirements related to likely usage configurations." and FCC stated on page 40 of the GAO Report "...the Commission's staff ... arrived at the same conclusion [and the] document is ... under consideration by the Commission ...".

“Every day lost, every excuse invoked, every tactic invented only increases the damage to human life, to the environment and to the generations who will have to fix the broken pieces.” Documentary filmmaker Pascal Gélinas wrote these heart-wrenching words to his grandson in a public letter released in November 2020. These words are the concluding statements that followed a long, detailed description of the biological effects of RF-EMF that Gélinas has been documenting and sharing with his many followers.

The consequences that accompany the so-called “advancements” of 5G have been largely ignored by both the U.S. and Canadian governments despite ample up-to-date science linking RF-EMF radiation to effects on humans as well as on birds, bees, and trees. EHT founder Devra Davis recently described how the technological push toward 5G has been provoked by unnecessary geopolitical and ecological gamesmanship — a game with no victor, and certainly no eye toward public health.

Do you notice when you turn off the Wi-Fi that you fall asleep faster and sleep better? Do you ever have headaches or nausea when you cross under electric lines? 489 million 5G phones are expected to be rolled out in 2021. If the environmental hazards associated with their production, use, and disposal don't bother you, maybe the safety implications will. Phones are tested in an antiquated method using a large plastic bowling ball-sized head of a male dummy named Standard Anthropomorphic Mannequin (or SAM for short). SAM's head is nearly double the size of the head of a toddler and larger than 97 percent of all people. A big guy with a thick skull, SAM looks like military recruits from nearly a century ago. SAM is not representative of the public, yet SAM is the standard by which cell phone safety is tested. Typically, manufacturers select a single device among their product lines to test on SAM to ensure the syrupy liquid inside the dummy’s thick skull doesn't heat up.

Despite thousands of studies on non-thermal effects, national and international regulatory agencies, including the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), still rely on thermal testing to measure the safety of cell phones. Not surprisingly, SAM is not very talkative — test calls average six minutes in duration. His behavior doesn't resemble the way the public uses cell phones today. We are Not SAM! This outdated and misleading “SAM” dummy for testing data on cell phones and other microwave radiating devices, including whatever equipment 5G may ultimately entail, is "fake news," and the world is waking up. Cell phones and wireless devices are not tested the way we use them — directly next to our bodies. Even if they were tested in body contact positions, current cell phone radiation limits do not protect us. We Are Not SAM is an organization aimed at educating consumers about the danger of wireless radiation. Co-creators Rinat Strahlhofer, a former telecommunications insider from New South Wales, Australia, and Tashi Lhamo, who was first exposed to the danger of the technology while studying the then-emerging industry during college, describes efforts by the telecommunications industry to hide the effects of cell phone radiation exposure — in part by using "decoys" like SAM. In this exclusive interview with EHT founder Devra Davis, the two describe how they came to understand the dangers of wireless radiation and how they are fighting to boycott the expansion of 5G, which isn't a replacement to 3G and 4G, but rather an addition to it that causes more and more radiation exposure to the public as well as to our flora and fauna. "When it comes to safety, we just assume that it's there, and we're using devices under the assumption that regulatory bodies are taking care of safety," Strahlhofer said. "Right now we're faced with a rigged test... At what point do we draw a line in the sand?"

Devra Davis combines her deep personal connection to issues of health and the environment with her formidable scientific expertise, arguing for fundamentally new ways of thinking about health and the environment. Before she became one of the world’s leading epidemiologists, Davis was the victim of environmental pollution. As a young girl in Donora, Pennsylvania, she saw 20 of her home town community members die and scores permanently injured in the smog disaster of October 26th, 1948. In her new landmark book, When Smoke Ran Like Water, Devra Davis documents how environmental toxins contribute to a broad spectrum of diseases. The book’s title alludes to an event 50 years ago in London. Davis writes that “cool air from across the English Channel settled over the Thames River Valley and did not move. London’s eight million residents huddled indoors and warmed themselves by their coal stoves. Smoke ran like tap water from a million chimneys.” The inversion layer that had formed over the English capital trapped the coal smoke at ground level. The result was smog so thick that people could not find their own homes, automobile traffic ground to a halt, and people died in droves. The smog is now estimated to have killed some 12,000 people.

Devra Davis PhD Radio Interview with KDKA Chris Moore on FCC Lawsuit, 5G, Baby Safe Project and more.

In this episode, you will hear further testimony from parents, educators, and health professionals advocating for safer use of technology in schools,  the removal of school cell towers and replacing Wi-Fi with wired networks in classrooms.

In an historic decision, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit judged in favor of environmental health groups and petitioners on Aug. 13, 2021, finding the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) violated the Administrative Procedure Act and failed to respond to comments on environmental harm.

The court ruled that the decision by the FCC to retain its 1996 safety limits for human exposure to wireless radiation was “arbitrary and capricious.”  and held that the FCC failed to respond to “record evidence that exposure to RF radiation at levels below the Commission’s current limits may cause negative health effects unrelated to cancer.”   

Further, the agency demonstrated “a complete failure to respond to comments concerning environmental harm caused by RF radiation.” The court found the FCC ignored numerous organizations, scientists  and medical doctors who called on them to update limits and the court found the FCC failed to address these issues:

Human exposure guidelines for wireless radiation were last set in 1996.

In this episode, you will hear testimony against cell towers from parents, health professionals, and more in the city of Thousand Oaks. Several citizens tell their stories which include heart irregularities and migraines caused by exposure to electromagnetic fields. One school teacher had to go on a 39-month disability leave after her school decided to upgrade their WiFi system, bring in hundreds of new chromebooks, and new smartboards. This technological upgrade led to several teachers becoming ill and having to leave their full-time jobs as educators. Neither parents nor staff were notified of the changes to the Wi-Fi network.
