Virginia's Vines and Wines18 Oct 202300:42:09

Send a text

Our first episode in the continental united states and it's not California?!?!

Find out how impactful Virginia is when we talk about wine in the United States.

Virginia wines represent a broader trend toward valuing authenticity, individuality, and a sense of place in winemaking. It's about appreciating wine as more than just a beverage—it's a narrative, a piece of history, and a reflection of the land and its people. This connection with the land and the celebration of local identity in winemaking are powerful, allowing the true poetry of the vineyard to shine through.

How To Drink Australian! An Interview with Jane Lopes and Jonathan Ross!19 Sep 202301:07:11

Send a text

Want to find the most recent and groundbreaking wine book? Check out what Jane and Jon have created with one of the most incredible and unique wine countries in the world! How to drink Australian is as deep of a dive as you get for wine and at the same time so fun and easy to understand for wine lovers. After reading this book you will change your next wine trip from France or Italy to Australia to discover the beauty in and around the magnificent bottles they produce down under!

How to Drink Australian

“The landscape of Australian wine is cracking with both new energy and historic traditions that makes it one of the most exciting (we think the most exciting) wine-producing countries in the world right now. But the scholarship on Australian wine hasn’t always matched the output. Think of the dozens (hundreds?) of books that exist on France’s Burgundy alone, a region that could fit inside many of Australia’s individual appellations. Australia hasn’t been afforded the same attention in the world of wine, especially by those living outside its borders. How to Drink Australian is an insider’s and outsider’s guide to Australian wine, both perspectives offering something important to the conversation.”

No Caution Needed With Approachment Wine. Interview with winemaker Jessica West07 Oct 202400:46:12

Send a text

"Approachment is the West's opportunity to fuel their creative and experimental side together as winemakers but also as partners and best friends. They are excited to make energetic, creative, thought provoking, and approachable wines in limited production.

The journey of how Approachment was founded is quite the saga!

But here are the cliff notes…

Jessica started her wine path working in wine shops and tasting rooms.

After learning the sales portion of the business, Jessica acquired an internship in 2013 at Bethel Heights Vineyard working directly with Winemaker Ben Casteel and viticulture master Mimi Casteel.

Entranced by the crafting side of the business, Jessica then entered the NW Wine Studies program to earn her degree in Winemaking.

Paden grew up in the Willamette Valley and began his path in wine just as Jessica did- by working in wine shops and tasting rooms.

In 2010, Paden was offered an internship at Penner-Ash, managed by Winemaker Lynn Penner-Ash and Assistant Winemaker Brian Irvine. After finding his fire for the winemaking side of the business, Paden also enrolled in the NW Wine Studies program…

Where his lab partner turned out to be Jessica.

But the best is still to come

Approachment is now the continuation of each career path combined into a joint expression of Jessica and Paden’s combined talents, skill sets, palates, and creative outbursts."

Be sure to check out their website:

and follow their instagram
