We're Back... well one of us is anyway 👀11 Sep 202600:53:53

WE’RE BACK! 🎙️

After 13 weeks away, Paddy and Belinda are reunited, the Pen Pals are officially a thing, and somehow we’ve already had an HR dispute within the first 30 seconds.

So… what’s happened since we disappeared? Quite a lot, actually.

Paddy has gone from secretly running a 10K to completing his first half marathon, started therapy for the first time, begun fixing his teeth, and, after months of frustration, finally broken through his weight loss plateau and reached a brand new low.

Meanwhile, Belinda gets very real about discovering she’s regained 14lbs over the past year, why maintenance hasn’t gone the way she expected, the possible role of medication, and why she refuses to see this setback as the end of her story.

We also talk weight loss medication, food noise, long term treatment, DEXA scans, loose skin, body changes, the things we wish we’d tracked from day one, and what’s coming up in Season 4.

Plus, Paddy discovers Pilates, Belinda still can’t speak into her microphone, we introduce our imaginary back office staff, and a perfectly innocent conversation about plant milk takes a deeply unfortunate turn.

Basically, The Dose is back.

Same honesty. Same chaos. Slightly better production.

Welcome back, Pen Pals. ❤️

Well folks, we made it. Season 3 is officially in the bag, and Paddy and Belinda are signing off in the only way they know how ...45 minutes late, blaming the gremlins in the tech, and waved through with a "sure it's grand."

Before anybody panics: it's the end of the season, not the end of the dose. Season 4 is already brewing, and there's a phenomenal lineup waiting in the wings. But first, a proper sit-down to mark where we've landed.

We're closing in on a milestone that genuinely floored us when we looked at the number — and three of the all-time top five episodes have come from this season alone.

We get reflective. Paddy walks back to a desk in May 2024, asking himself if morbid obesity was just going to be his lot for life — and the wedding weekend in June when everything quietly shifted.

Belinda goes back further, to a passive-aggressive magazine article her mam slid across the kitchen table in 2022, an online doctor appointment that lasted ninety seconds, and figuring out a brand-new medication with no community, no TikTok, no anything. Two very different routes in. Two years that look nothing like the lives they came from.

We get into the bigger picture too: how much the GLP-1 landscape has changed in just twenty-four months, where Weight Watchers, Unislim and Slimming World have each landed on it (spoiler: not all gracefully), the things nobody warns women in their forties and fifties about, the rebrand of PCOS, the ongoing question of whether influencers in the weight-loss space owe their followers some honesty, and the one that still hasn't settled in either of our heads.

Plus the lighter stuff: HYROX in September (Belinda has been hoodwinked), Paddy's complicated romance with running, a big summer for Belinda's family, gigs, ferries, Tayto Park, a podcasting conference in London, and a side project Paddy isn't quite ready to talk about yet.

Massive thanks to everyone who's been here — whether you found us last week or you were there for the dodgy Instagram Live in month one. Keep the WhatsApps coming over the break. We'll be back. And if something big breaks in the meantime, you know we won't leave you hanging.

Big love. See you in Season 4

P & B xx

Retatrutide - My Experience22 Apr 202601:41:06

She lost 37% of her body weight. In nine months. On a drug that doesn't officially exist yet in the real world.

In this episode, Paddy & Belinda down with Mimi , an Australian nurse and stroke survivor who became one of a handful of people worldwide to trial Retatrutide, Eli Lilly's next-generation triple receptor GLP-1 agonist, as part of a landmark cardiovascular clinical trial.

Mimi pulls back the curtain on what it's really like to be inside a pharmaceutical trial, from being forced to dose-escalate to 12mg within months regardless of how her body was responding, to surviving a cold turkey stop after 20 months with zero tapering support.

She shares the unfiltered truth about what extreme appetite suppression actually feels like, how she rebuilt her nutrition from scratch when she couldn't keep liquids down, and the moment her DEXA scan revealed how much body fat she actually lost.

She also talks about the mental health reality nobody warned her about, the terrifying return of hunger after nearly two years of silence, why her blood pressure medication had to be stopped just four months in, and how she went from qualifying for a trial to now maintaining a nine stone weight on Wegovy for cardiovascular protection.

Plus, we get into the very real and dangerous black market surge of so-called 'Retatrutide' , and why if you're seeing it for sale online, it is not the real thing.

This is one of the most extraordinary first-hand accounts of Retatrutide you'll hear anywhere. Don't miss it.

7 Stone Lost - The Small Life No More: Sarah’s story of change with Mounjaro04 Apr 202601:09:52

“You are living such a small life.”

Those seven words from a medical professional were the wake-up call Sarah ( @sezzieloula on Instagram) needed to stop waiting for a miracle and start fighting for her future.

After decades of battling obesity, medical bias, and the exhausting "mask" of being the happy people-pleaser, Sarah reached a breaking point in 2024. At her heaviest and most restricted, she’d already resigned herself to a shorter life, until she discovered a new path.

In this deeply moving episode of The Dose, Belinda and Paddy sit down with Sarah to trace her 13-month transformation. This isn't just a story about losing seven stone; it’s a raw exploration of reclaiming the space you deserve in a world that often tries to make you feel invisible.

  • The "Small Life" Realization: Sarah describes the heartbreaking moment she realized she was shrinking her world to fit her body, from Googling seat widths to avoiding social gatherings.
  • The Science of Hope: A candid look at the "switch" that flipped when Sarah started GLP-1 medication and how it levelled the metabolic playing field after years of failed "cycle dieting."
  • Medical Bias & The 90s Trap: From being prescribed the Atkins diet at 19 to the trauma of being told every ailment was "just your weight," Sarah reflects on the systemic hurdles of living in a larger body.
  • Non-Scale Victories: The joy of the "space between the steering wheel," the thrill of wild swimming, and the power of finally crossing your legs at a desk.
  • A Message to Her Younger Self: A tear-jerking conclusion as Sarah shares what she wish she could tell the 19-year-old version of herself sitting in a doctor's office.

If you have ever felt like your weight enters the room before you do, or if you’ve spent years in the "four R’s" (Restrict, Relapse, Regain, Repeat), this episode is a lighthouse. Sarah’s vulnerability is a powerful reminder that obesity is a chronic relapsing disease, not a character flaw.

This week, we’re catching up on everything, from unexpected online drama to something even more shocking… Paddy has started running.....Yes, you read that right. From lungs on fire and knee pain to knocking out consistent 5Ks.

We also get into:

  • The reality of navigating criticism online (and why people forget there’s a real person behind the screen)

  • What “maintenance” actually looks like in real life, not the polished version

  • Weekend indulgence, Chinese takeaways, cupcakes… and the reality check that comes after

  • The truth about progress, setbacks, and why nothing is ever as linear as it looks

And as always, we don’t hold back on calling out the nonsense, especially when it comes to unsafe trends and misinformation in the weight loss space.

Honest, unfiltered, and probably a bit too real at times, but that’s what you come here for.

You’re losing weight… so why does it still feel hard?

In this episode, we welcome back The GLP-1 Coach, Nikki Coughlan, for a powerful and honest conversation about the emotional side of this journey that nobody really prepares you for.

Nikki is a Nutritional Therapist and Health Coach specialising in supporting adults using GLP-1 medications

Find Nikki here: https://www.glp1coach.ie/

We talk about the fear of regain.

The support gap that exists for many of us on our journey. The panic around maintenance. The pressure to be perfect.

The importance of self-compassionAnd the quiet worry that maybe the medication is doing all the work.

If you’ve ever thought:“What happens when this stops?”“Why don’t I feel as different as I look?”“Why am I still struggling even though the scale is moving?”

This episode is for you

We explore how to move beyond diet mentality, how to design goals that actually work in real life, and why support matters more than most people realise. This is not about chasing numbers. It is about identity, values, and building something sustainable.

Whether you are just starting out, deep in the process, or approaching maintenance, this conversation will help you feel less alone and more grounded in your next step.

After nearly three months on Wegovy, Paddy has made the decision to stop.

Not because he wanted to. Not because he didn’t try. But because it just wasn’t working for him the way he hoped. The appetite suppression never really landed, the sugar cravings were strong, and over that time he regained a stone and a half (22lbs / 10kg) .

In this episode, we talk honestly about what that felt like. The headspace. The frustration. The fear of slipping back into old patterns. And why he decided it was time to reset and go back to what had previously worked for me.

We also get into:

• Revisiting food noise

• Cravings versus hunger

• The shame people still carry around these medications

• Why you are allowed to keep your journey private

• And hows maintenance going for Belinda

And yes, there’s still the usual banter. Including tractors. If you’re on this journey and something isn’t going the way you expected, this episode is for you.

Movement. Exercise. The gym. Three words that can spark motivation, fear, guilt, or an immediate eye roll.

In this episode of The Dose, Paddy and Belinda get honest about movement in real life, not the polished, punishing version we’ve all been sold before.

They are joined by Luke Atkins from Tailormade Coaching for a grounded, practical conversation about what movement actually looks like for everyday people. Especially if you are starting again, starting slowly, or starting while navigating weight loss, GLP-1 medication, or a complicated relationship with exercise.

This is not about burning calories or chasing perfection. It is about confidence, consistency, and finding movement that fits your life. If movement has ever felt overwhelming, embarrassing, or like something you “should” be doing but don’t know how to start, this episode is for you.

We also hear more about Belindas person journey with movement and how shes somewhere she never imagined in terms of her love of training.

In this episode, Paddy and Belinda sit down with Registered Dietician / Clinical Nutritionist and Trained Psychotherapist Valerie O’Connor ( Galway Nutrition & Therapy Clinic www.gntc.ie) for a calm, thoughtful conversation about food, nourishment, and looking after yourself in a more sustainable way.

We talk through what supportive nutrition actually looks like beyond diet culture, focusing on routine, fibre, hydration, food variety, and why food first matters more than supplements or extremes. Valerie shares practical, realistic guidance on eating well without restriction, fear, or perfectionism, especially during periods of weight change.

The conversation also touches on the psychological side of health, including self compassion, habit building, and how to move away from shame and all or nothing thinking. Rather than quick fixes, this episode centres on steadiness, kindness, and doing what genuinely supports long term wellbeing.

A reassuring listen for anyone who wants a healthier relationship with food and their body, without pressure or judgement.

We've (both) gained weight..... 09 Jan 202600:48:59

Tap here to send us a whatsapp message or if you can’t tap, simply send your message to: +353851343766

We have both gained weight.

Belinda opens up about seeing the scale go up after Christmas for the first time in years and how fast the old restriction thoughts came back, even though she knows better. Paddy shares more insight on his experience of what it’s been like moving to Wegovy and also gaining weight too.

We chat about that Oxford study that’s everywhere this week, people regaining weight after stopping medication, and ask the obvious question… why is this being treated like breaking news?

We also get into the messy stuff, maintenance not feeling as safe as weight loss, the identity shift when you’re no longer in “lose mode”, weight bias, water weight, spirals, and why the scale can absolutely wreck your head if you’re not careful.

If you’ve put on weight after Christmas, felt panicky about it, or had that quiet fear of “what if it all comes back”, this one will hit home.

No fixing. No preaching. Just two people being honest about a part of the journey that doesn’t get talked about enough.

Also thank you to those of you who alerted us we (aka Paddy) uploaded the unedited version before this - apparently even Paddy is human and makes mistakes and for a number of you, you now know his favourite (off air and should never make it to air) curse word !!! #Morto

In our Christmas special, we are decking the halls with reflections from the year that was. The highs, the hard bits, the unexpected wins, the moments that made us laugh, and the ones that caught us completely off guard. Think of it as our end of year selection box, a little bit of everything and absolutely no calorie counting.

We chat honestly about maintenance, medication changes, festive food noise, gym glow ups, community moments, and what this year has really been like behind the microphone. It is reflective, real, a little bit chaotic, and very on brand.

So pop on the fairy lights, settle in, and join us for one last chat before the year is boxed away.

Merry Christmas and thank you for listening.

Lot of love

Price Hikes & Panic: What’s Really Going On?17 Aug 202500:23:27

    PRICES INCREASE - SPECIAL EPISODE

Paddy and Belinda jump back on the mic for a “microdose” episode after a whirlwind week in obesity care across Ireland and the UK. With sudden price hikes on weight loss medications sparking panic, confusion, and sleepless nights for many, they break down what’s really happening, what misinformation to avoid, and—most importantly—where to turn for reliable guidance.

    They discuss:

    • Why Eli Lilly’s price changes are hitting patients so hard in Ireland and the UK

    • The dangers of clickbait and social media “advice”

    • Why your own healthcare provider is the only person to guide you through options

    • The dangers of the black market

    • Their personal reflections on maintenance, mindset, and progress beyond the scale

This one’s about reassurance, clarity, and remembering—you still have options.

Shocking news for Paddy & Belinda gets real 😲 [S2E12]19 Jun 202500:58:46

This week marks one full year since Paddy took his very dose of weight loss medication (Mounjaro) —and what a year it’s been. In this powerful, insightful, and occasionally outrageous episode, Paddy opens up about the emotional and physical milestones of his 100+ lb weight loss journey, including a jaw-dropping discovery from his recent metabolic test.

Meanwhile, Belinda shares a vulnerable and reflective update of her own. After feeling stuck in her weight loss, she experiments with fasting—not for restriction but for reconnection—using her fasting app to simply ask, “Am I actually hungry?” What she found might surprise you.

    Together, they dive deep into:

    • What a year of GLP-1 medication really looks like—beyond the scales

    • Why most calorie calculators are misleading, especially for long-term dieters

    • The science (and frustration) of metabolic adaptation

    • Why hunger cues matter—and how Belinda’s bread habit made a sneaky comeback

    • The ongoing mindset work behind sustainable change

    • Why community support matters more than ever in the noisy GLP-1 space

There’s also a healthy dose of laughs, podcast plans, and a gentle reminder that this journey—though personal—is never walked alone.

More Than a Jab: The Uneducated PT Karl O’Rourke on the Power of GLP-1s and Belonging [S2E9]25 May 202501:09:21

What if the most powerful part of your weight loss journey wasn’t the number on the scale — but the people you meet along the way?

In this episode of The Dose, Paddy and Belinda sit down with Karl O’Rourke — better known as The Uneducated PT — for an eye-opening, no-BS conversation about weight loss medications, fitness culture, and why real health starts with feeling like you belong.

Karl opens up about the loneliness that nearly broke him, why social health matters more than we think, and how the fitness industry often gets it very wrong when it comes to weight loss medication. This one isn’t about six-packs or shame — it’s about honesty, empathy, and what it really means to feel well in your body and in your life.

If you've ever felt judged, misunderstood, or unsure where you fit in this journey, this episode is the permission slip you didn’t know you needed.

A Lighter Body, A Louder Voice: What We Gained by Losing almost 200lbs [S2E8]17 May 202501:01:02

We lost almost 100 pounds each—but spoiler alert: we didn’t magically become perfect humans. In this laugh-through-the-tears episode, Paddy and Belinda unpack the wild, wonderful, and downright weird things that happen after weight loss.

From squeezing into Paul Mescal-style O’Neills shorts to Belinda strutting around in mustard mini skirts (with a zip, obviously), we share what’s changed—from food guilt to fashion fits—and what still hits us hard (hello, body image baggage and funeral rosary anxiety).

Paddy revisits a letter he once read on The Biggest Loser and reflects on the pressure to be “fixed.” Belinda speaks about showing up for herself and finally not caring if she ever steps on a scale again. We talk about protecting our peace, ditching cold shoulder tops, and finding joy in a full-fat ice cream with syrup and a flake—without spiralling into self-hate.

This episode is full of big laughs, deep sighs, awkward honesty, and hard-won freedom. If you’ve ever felt less-than, tried to shrink yourself, or wondered what it might feel like to finally take up space—this one’s for you.

    P.S. We’re not fixed. But we’re f***ing free.

From ‘10-Ton Tessie’ to 12 Stone Down: Ashley’s Journey of Weight, Worth & Warriorship [S2E7]09 May 202501:35:38

At only 10 years old, they called her “10-Ton Tessie” —and those words stuck harder than the weight ever did. In this raw and deeply personal episode, Ashley O’Driscoll (@ashleyodriscoll_) joins Paddy and Belinda to share the untold story behind her incredible 12-stone weight loss, and the emotional scars that couldn’t be measured on a scale.

From the cruelty of childhood name-calling to the silence of social media trolls, Ashley opens up about the war waged not just on her body—but on her sense of self.

We dive into the complicated reality of body image after massive transformation, the trauma of hair loss, and the hidden grief behind feeling “not done” even after dramatic progress. With humour, honesty, and no-holds-barred truth-telling, this is a conversation about growth, survival, and reclaiming power.

If you’ve ever struggled to see yourself in the mirror—or felt judged for your size, your skin, or your silence—this episode is for you.

Dr Mick Crotty - Obesity Medicine Specialist in conversation with Paddy & Belinda [S2E5]24 Apr 202501:46:39

In this episode, we sit down with Dr. Mick Crotty, a GP and Obesity Medicine Specialist with a passion for transforming how we treat obesity.

Dr. Crotty shares his personal journey into obesity medicine and opens up about the work he does at My Best Weight, Irelands leading dedicated weight management clinic that’s changing lives through compassionate, patient-focused care.

We talk about why weight management is so much more complex than just “eat less, move more,” and why it’s vital to treat obesity as the chronic condition it truly is.

From the powerful impact of language and media, to the importance of informed consent and making patients feel truly heard, this chat gets into the nitty-gritty of what real, respectful care looks like.

Together, we explore the role of mental health, how our home environments can shape success, and why GPs need better tools and training to support people on this journey. We also touch on the power of community, and how we can all do better—whether we're patients, providers, or just people trying to understand.

It’s a heartfelt, hopeful, and honest conversation about obesity care in Ireland—and what it means to put people first.
