And so I asked Dom if we could use the last segment of the day to refocus, recenter, and prioritize what really matters- our connections and the joy we find in life. And (almost) every day since, we’ve ended the show with something good.

Earl Ingram, Civic morning show host, joins us as cohost. As we reflect on the Supreme Court election in Wisconsin, we consider good. We celebrate the victory of democracy in selecting Susan Crawford to be our next Justice while rejecting oligarchy and authoritarianism. At the same time, this was the most expensive judicial race in American history. With around $100 million spent on this race, we wonder how much good we could have done with that money invested in our community rather than on mud slinging ads and endless pieces of mail. Especially when federal funding cuts continue to pummel the most vulnerable amongst us. Today, we learn that Wisconsin food banks will lose millions of dollars from USDA cuts. This hurts Wisconsin. And it’s only 2% of the cost of the election. Why can’t we work together for good???

And on the matter of Tuesday’s election… we’ve got another bout of deniers. It’s not those pesky Milwaukee ballots this time. No, now it’s the old favorite: mail in ballots. I know you can’t see it, but we’re rolling our eyes real hard.

But for today, we’re going to celebrate at least a bit. With this article as an anchor, we examine some of the winners and losers of the Wisconsin spring election. Some big winners: obviously Justice-Elect Susan Crawford, state Democrats, and democracy in general. And a few big losers: Elon Musk, Donald Trump, and the Shady Shill BS himself. Likewise, some of BS’s hoped-for conservative colleagues on the state’s Supreme Court, like Justice Rebecca Bradley, who bemoaned Crawford’s win and says she’s not looking forward to working together!

As we discuss winners and losers, let us never forget that We the People make this government. And We the People won last night. You know who else won last night? Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ), who held the Senate floor for over 25 hours to protest the Trump administration’s cruel and reckless actions. Booker now holds the record for longest floor speech, stripping infamous racist Strom Thurmond of the title for his anti-Civil Rights Act filibuster.

Oh, and yes a major victory for democracy as Judge Susan Crawford becomes Justice-Elect Crawford. And y’all this race wasn’t close. Wisconsin voters gave BS and his mega-billionaire backer an ass whooping 10-point loss! In her victory speech, Justice-Elect Crawford graciously thanked the people of Wisconsin. She also shared a quote from Justice Thurgood Marshall exhorting us not to give in to apathy but to fight for democracy. Right on Justice-Elect Crawford!

Now some on the right claim that the loss wasn’t so bad. And in fact, our senior US Senator says things may have been much worse for BS if Musk hadn’t made this his campaign!

Wisconsin is not for sale. Our judicial system is not for sale. So why in the hell is the MAGA movement and the world’s richest man trying to buy our Supreme Court? We intended to move on from our discussion of the race for Wisconsin Supreme Court in this hour. Really, truly, we were going to move on. And then news broke again of more attempts to buy our election. This newest effort, $50 for a picture posing outside a polling place with an image of BS, gets to the very thing that our pal Maggie Daun called illegal in the first hour. It’s worse even that this is blatantly illegal electioneering within 100 ft of a voting location. Because this is against everything our country stands for. We the People are not. For. Sale.

We end the day with something good from our callers and each other. Jess’s something good today is Senator Cory Booker, who at the time of our broadcast finishing today reached the 24 hour mark in an historic Senate floor speech. He passed the record for longest floor speech half an hour after our show ended. Look forward to our analysis tomorrow!

Get out and vote for a qualified judicial candidate: Susan Crawford for Supreme Court Justice. In this segment we take one final look at the reasons BS is unqualified to hold the position he seeks. In her time with us, Maggie shares thoughts on the lawsuit WI Attorney General Josh Kaul filed against Musk for his potentially election-interfering $1 million voting giveaways. The Wisconsin Supreme Court unanimously struck it down, proving they aren’t so rigorously liberal as BS thinks…

And if you need one more reason NOT for BS, we share one more. If character matters at all to you, pay attention. The man who “psychologically beat the daylights out of” his 8-year-old daughter and shared that with pride? That’s BS. The judge who rules fairly and impartially and follows judicial ethics? That’s Susan Crawford. You know the states. No go forth and vote!

We knew coming into this administration not to expect traditional sensibilities of qualifications from Cabinet members. Still, we hoped to see some regard for making America safer and more secure- what with all the talk of how Trump’s administration would do just that. And then we got Pete Hegseth as Secretary of Defense and all those hopes went down the drain. Last week, we saw in the clearest terms that this administration will not make us safer. They will share battle plans on a public app and accidentally include people without security clearance. Now, we learn that Secretary Hegseth brings non-cleared people, like his wife and brother, to sensitive meetings.

Then, we turn to another story that surely will NOT make us safer: deporting people based on their tattoos. Now if those tattoos were things that said “I hate America” or “I am in an anti-democracy gang” we might understand bringing them in for an investigation at least. But we’re talking about hummingbirds and memorial tattoos and no due process for people accused of being in a Venezuelan gang.

Over the weekend, the world’s richest man graced us with his ‘presents’ here in Wisconsin. Attorney General, Josh Kaul, filed to stop Musk from delivering two $1 million goodies. Alas, he didn’t dot his Is or cross his Ts and our court system flat out rejected the lawsuits. Even our “radically liberal” Supreme Court that one BS candidate rails against unanimously ruled against Kaul. Imagine that… Well, we think the money stinks. With this election shaping up to blow far past the record spending, we hear from our audience consternation over all the money in this race. We hear the anger over the Musky Money, and we hear the frustrating with George Soros’s money. But y’all, in comparing these two figures, Musky Money is a full order of magnitude (10x) greater than Soros’. Still, let’s get it all out, it stinks!

Then, we turn briefly to an update on how the federal cuts will hurt Wisconsin families. With Health and Human Services funding slashed, Wisconsin is poised to lose $210 million of federal funding for healthcare. We are a democratic republic with three co-equal branches of government with checks and balances on each other. Those checks are vital to maintaining and protecting the will of the people. Sometimes, these checks require one branch to step in and challenge or restrict the actions of another branch. So when members of President Trump’s administration proclaim that federal judges, parts of the co-equal Judicial Branch, need to be removed for challenging the Constitutionality of Trump’s actions, we’re concerned.

Also this hour, we discuss further fallout from Signalgate- or Whiskeyleaks if you’re feeling petty. A major concern we have over this ordeal is that citizens cannot file requests for documents under the Freedom of Information Act when said documents are on Signal. Here again, checks and balances matter. The Legislative and Judicial branches now must respond to these egregious violations in the Executive.

With a predicted total passing $100 million, one man bears over a full 25% of that burden. Elon Musk took it upon himself to fund this campaign ad absurdum, first with massive donations to BS’s campaign. Then, he began paying people $100 to sign a petition against “activist judges”- which disqualifies BS for the position. Now, he’s paying $1 million in surprise bonuses out to people who signed the aforementioned pay-for-pen petition. This disgusting flood of money into the judicial race distorts the democratic process. And frankly some of it may be illegal. Just today, Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul announced a lawsuit against the most recent Musk Bucks episode.

In this hour, we turn to national news and the priorities of this Presidential administration. Today, we report that Health and Human Services- now led by RFK Jr- plans to reduce their workforce by a full third. Despite claims that the cuts will not result in poorer service, we know that’s simply not true. And a caller shares his experience just this week with the IRS in this vein. Actions like these cuts show what the priorities of this administration are and critically what they are not. So what are their priorities? Well, certainly the top one is securing enough money to give the richest among us a tax cut. And another is a less healthy population. Take for another example, that amidst all their cuts to research, they choose to invest once more in studying links between vaccines and autism. Because, they didn’t like the conclusions of “no link” from the last study. Or the one before that, or all the ones before that.

We end the day by checking in with Civic Media sports reporter Mike Clemens. Mike brings us an update on the opening day for the Brewers. While we’re bummed about today’s loss, there’s so much season to play!

Judge Susan Crawford joins us to discuss why she’s running for Supreme Court of Wisconsin. She shows us she has the character to be our next Justice. This race’s spending balloons closer to the projected $100 million price tag. With that in mind, Judge Crawford shares her horror at the richest man in the world contributing over a quarter of the full spending as of yet. Today, we learn that Elon Musk is now also dropping donations by $1 million checks to specific voters who sign his paid petition against “activist judges.” Now if those signees really oppose activist judges, they’ll turn their ire against BS, Judge Crawford’s opponent. Because BS consistently declares that he will be a rubber stamp for President Trump’s agenda. He goes so far as to say that Trump needs a support network, which he would be as Justice.

For the second half of the hour, we discuss the role of character in choosing which candidate to elect. Looking beyond how we think a Justice may or may not rule on the state’s highest court, how should we weigh their character?

National Security Advisor Mike Waltz accidentally added The Atlantic editor-in-chief, Jeffrey Goldberg to a group chat on Signal for the purposes of coordinating a strike against the Houthis in Yemen. Today, in answer to the continued insistence of those in the chain that the thread contained no classified material, Goldberg released full screenshots.

In this hour, we continue our coverage from yesterday on the massive national security breach of classified battle plans shared in a group chat on Signal. Today, the Senate Intelligence Committee held their annual hearing on worldwide threats to our national security. And today, the threats to our national security came from inside the house= or rather, the Cabinet. We share highlights featuring Senators Mark Warner and Jon Ossoff; you can watch the full hearing here. We also share audio of Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth completely denying the nature of the breach. This, after the White House themselves confirmed the authenticity of the texts. That said, they deny that they contained any classified information. In that case, let’s see ’em.

Y’all, this breach of not only our national security but also our domestic public records laws worries us deeply. Our national leaders communicated matters of national security on an unsecure, unauthorized platform. And the only reason we know about it is because they’re so damn sloppy and incompetent, they accidentally added an extra number. We’re DAMN lucky that extra number was not only a world renowned journalist but one with the ethical fortitude to preserve our state secrets when our leaders refused to do the same.

Oh boy, it’s only Tuesday huh? Well, let’s get into it. It’s so very nearly time to elect our next Supreme Court Justice in Wisconsin! Make sure to avoid BS this cycle by voting for Judge Susan Crawford! Check your voter registration and all items on your ballot here. Then make a plan and vote by April 1st to elect a qualified candidate we can all remember. That’s a bit of a joke, because some people are struggling to remember who that BS candidate is and why people should– and shouldn’t– vote for him.

Our upcoming election for Supreme Court in Wisconsin matters. Because elections lead to consequences. Like the 2024 Presidential election, which day after day reveals disastrous consequences. At the bottom of the hour today, we bring continuing coverage of President Trump’s defiance of the federal judiciary. Today, the administration claims “State Secrets Privilege” in response to Judge Boasberg’s order for answers to his questions regarding the administration’s insubordination last week. This case, of mass deportation of Venezuelan migrants alleged gang members, draws mass ire from federal judges. Judge Patricia Millet went so far as to say that “Nazis got better treatment” in deportations from the USA.

Harvey Kaye, Professor Emeritus of Democracy and Justice Studies at UWGB, and our favorite Delano Democrat joins us for the hour. We begin by picking up on the massive national security breach committed by Cabinet members and top advisors over Signal. The news leaves our typically verbose Professor gobsmacked and nearly speechless. He manages to call the act “evil, stupid”. And after so many years of hearing cries to “lock her up!’ referring to Hillary Clinton and a private email, we ask where are the investigations? Where is the outrage and when are the planned hearings? Well, folks. It’s time to act.

Our democracy will not stand on its own. We must act and participate in our democracy for it to persevere. Get out and join the town halls sweeping the nation. Whether you participate in the events hosted by Bernie Sanders and AOC or in the zoom town halls like the one Harvey spoke at last night– act! Stand up, speak out, and ENGAGE in democracy!

We begin the week’s news coverage locally with news on the race for our state’s Supreme Court. With absolute gobs of money pouring in from right and left, this race will be the most expensive judicial election in American history. And the last one in Wisconsin broke the record as well. Now, additionally, President Trump wades into the supposedly non-partisan race to endorse BS. It’s a troubling signal of of the direction our judicial races are headed. Check your voter registration and all items on your ballot, then make a plan to vote- WE endorse Judge Susan Crawford- by April 1st.

Speaking of a troubling signal… We turn to the breaking national news of the day: top security officials of the Trump administration, including the Secretary of Defense, Secretary of State, and National Security Advisor shared top-secret battle plans in a groupchat on Signal. That alone is bad. To make it worse, journalist and editor-in-chief of The Atlantic, who does not have classified security clearance, was in the chat. How? We don’t know, and wait with eager anticipation for some damn answers.

But first, we take a segment to discuss the rallying of Democrats and all those who oppose the tumbling slide into oligarchy and authoritarianism. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt) and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) set off this week on a joint venture for Fighting Oligarchy. We need this energy calling out the actions of this Presidential administration to shift power away from We the People to a select few. Because We the People stand for a social contract that binds us together into something greater than the sum of our parts. We better be ready to fight for it.

Then, we turn to the main story of the day. Last Saturday, this administration deported several hundred individuals they claim to be associated with a Venezuelan gang. Two big problems with this. One: a federal judge ordered the administration NOT to deport the individuals. Why? Because, two: this administration DID NOT follow due process to deport these people! Now, the federal judge, James Boasberg, weighs how to proceed after “woefully insufficient” details from the Trump team. Potentially, part of their due process may involve time behind bars for contempt of court.

Jim Santelle, host of Amicus: A Law Review, joins us as cohost for the day. In this hour, we discuss the upcoming race to fill a seat on the Wisconsin Supreme Court. This race pits Judge Susan Crawford against Judge Brad Schimel- to whom we’ll refer as BS. Throughout the past few weeks, we’ve provided extensive reasoning to vote FOR Susan Crawford and AGAINST BS. Today, we’ve got more. He consistently demonstrates a deep, abounding cynicism for Wisconsin’s people and judicial norms. In this campaign, BS enlisted help from the richest man in the world, who has poured over $10 MILLION into the race already.

The newest scheme highlights the intense cynicism: paying people $100 to sign a petition denouncing “activist judges.” This is particularly atrocious given BS’s close ties to our President. In fact, BS came out saying that our President needs a “support network” of judges. His own campaign support network mails out literature explicitly pairing Trump and BS. This is not a man capable of setting aside politics for justice. So make sure to get out and vote by Tuesday, April 1st. Check your voter registration and all other ballot items here.

Earl Ingram, Civic morning show host, joins us as cohost. This hour, we discuss whether President Trump has the authority to dismantle an Executive Department. Namely, we address the Executive Order he issued today to begin dismantling the federal Department of Education. Now, Congress created the department. And so it will be Congress who ultimately dismantles it- and who has the authority to do so. But in yet another rejection of the rule of law and our nation’s Constitution, Trump barges ahead in a reckless path of chaos and harm to We the People.

The federal Department of Education does not regulate curriculum. So no matter how loud Trump and his cronies shriek about “falling test scores,” the responsibility lies with states and localities for curriculum. Plus, those tests may not be saying what you think- their “proficient” is the highest category, meaning “above grade level.” So what does the federal Department of Education do? Well, they enforce civil rights in schools and oversee school grants and student loans. And who, in this hypothetical where we dismantle the department, takes these over? No one knows!

Not only in terms of finding a judge with appropriate attitude. The total cost for this election is projected to reach or pass $100 Million. Enough already, we need to change campaign finance.

Matt Rothschild joins us as cohost for the day. At the top of the hour, we bemoan the eternal evasion of responsibility and consequence our President enjoys. He disobeys judges and flouts the authority of the entire judiciary branch? No problem. He rejects the authority of the legislature to control the budget? Not an issue! He commits massive fraud in New York and earns status as a convicted felon for it? Nobody (it seems) cares! Evasion after evasion, for his wealth and his status. And now, GOP lawmakers around the country are avoiding holding town halls after those who have have been confronted by disappointed constituents. The latest such case coming from a deep-red district of Nebraska. And what about the less MAGA-sympathetic GOP members like Senator Murkowski (R-AK)? Well she says that those who share her “concerns” are being quiet because they’re scared for their political lives…

Matt Rothschild joins us as cohost for the day. We begin our news coverage in Milwaukee. Well, at least in the conspiracy that somehow, in each election, shenanigans occur in Milwaukee that causes *some* Republican candidates to lose. Judge Brad Schimel, candidate for the Wisconsin Supreme Court, began laying his election rejection seed corn based on this tired old trope. Of course, we hear this any time a Republican fears they may lose- or after they DO lose- the state. Because of a law that prohibits the counting of absentee ballots until election day. Milwaukee has a large population of absentee voters, and represents a very liberal region. These two factors combine to cause the appearance of a “ballot dump” late into election night as the absentee ballots are finally fully counted and reported. This doesn’t need to be a problem. There was a bipartisan bill in the state legislature to address it. Republicans killed it.

In the bottom of the hour, Julie Bomar- executive director of Wisconsin Farmers Union– joins us. Wisconsin farmers will once more face steep consequences due to this round of Trump Trade Warring. Cancelling grants that supported Wisconsin farmers who grew food for nutrition assistance programs will make this worse. Another dark trope we could do without repeating.

Harvey Kaye, Professor Emeritus of Democracy and Justice Studies at UWGB, and our favorite Delano Democrat joins us for the hour. In a time when our nation’s President consistently moves toward overthrowing our established orders, maybe we should consider doing the same. Not that we should overthrow democracy. But perhaps we need to change how we approach resistance to Trump’s lawlessness and disregard for our national wellbeing. As Trump’s administration flagrantly flouts judicial orders and the House makes no efforts to work with Democrats, why the hell did 9 Dems vote with Republicans to advance a reckless CR? As our democracy crumbles before our eyes, why the hell are our elected officials dragging their feet? Where do we go now?

Well, we can look to Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and his ongoing battles for We the People. Sometimes, that involves an overthrow of the way we’ve been doing things. What would you do with $100 Million? Can you even imagine what to do with $100 Million? It’s an outrageous amount of money. And it’s projected to be spent on our state’s Supreme Court race between Judge Susan Crawford and Judge Brad Schimel. That blows the record of $56 Million set by the 2023 SCoWis race out of the water by nearly 100%. Is this how we want to elect members of our state’s highest court- by who can raise the most money? And when a shocking full 10% of that money comes from one man- the richest on Earth- shouldn’t We the People object? Because Musk has already invested $10 Million to this race, we discuss the threat of his involvement to our state’s democracy. Our state Democratic Party Chair Ben Wikler talks with Contrarian Jen Rubin on the subject. Worse, one spouse voted for President Trump, in part for the promised deportation of “violent criminal illegal immigrants.” He didn’t expect that his wife, who overstayed her visa and applied for permanent residence, would be included.

They secured at least a temporary reprieve for probationary federal workers fired last month, who they order must be rehired immediately. Federal judge Beryl Howell came to the defense of law firms targeted by Trump, issuing a temporary restraining order against the President’s illegal executive order. In all, 123 lawsuits challenges have been filed against executive orders and actions of this administration in under two months. It’s going to be a long, bumpy 4 years, friends.

Jim Santelle, host of Amicus: A Law Review, joins us as cohost for the day. Today, our President, in a shattering of norms, address HIS Department of Justice. Once a department that prided itself on their independence from the whims of the Oval Office’s executive, the DoJ is now firmly Trump’s. In an over hour-long address, Trump directed the Department to pursue his enemies, whose actions he deems illegal. And who would that be? Oh, you know, the press. This is an enormous departure from the norms that guided the Department of Justice for decades. Justice should be impartial, guided by principles of law. Instead, here we see a president directing them to go after specific people and organizations. This isn’t justice, it’s an atrocity.

Justice will face a reckoning in Wisconsin on Tuesday, April 1st as we elect our next state Supreme Court justice. Check your voter registration and all items on your ballot, then make a plan and vote by April 1st!

Earl Ingram joins us as cohost for the day. We turn to national news that affects us right here in Wisconsin. The federal government led by President Trump and his shadow Elon Musk has operated on a platform that says that empathy is bad. Two weeks ago, Musk expressed that he wants to save western civilization from the weakness of empathy. Their actions reflect this: gutting essential services and mass firings that disrupted tens of thousands of families and attempts to strip citizenship of those owed it by the 14th Amendment. Today, we celebrate a small win as a federal judge orders the reinstatement of thousands of fired federal probationary workers. This will include many Wisconsinites who abruptly lost their jobs. We also celebrate a stand for empathy coming from 21 Attorneys General suing the federal Department of Education for this week’s efforts to gut it.

Empathy is a vital human ability, not an evil. That’s why we celebrate it here. And it’s one of the reasons we end each day by sharing something good with one another. These moments of human connection reinforce the good in the world. So don’t let the noise drown that out- embrace empathy!

Earl Ingram joins us as cohost for the day. We begin by checking in on the state of the markets, which now enter correction territory. This isn’t surprising- President Trump’s tariff chaos imparts far too much changeability to a system that desperately wants consistency. Today, Trump considers imposing a 200% tariff on European alcohol imports.

Then, we move into discussing last night’s first and only debate between the two candidates running for Wisconsin Supreme Court. When it comes to chameleons, changeability is great- it’s their survival mechanism! So it is for a politician as well. But when it comes to a judge, when it comes especially to a Supreme Court Justice, changeability is deadly. Not for them, but for We the People. In the debate, we saw the constancy and certainty of Judge Susan Crawford. We did not see the same from her opponent, Judge Brad Schimel, who presents an entirely different face to private audiences aligned with his own political agenda than he does to a public group. Just last week, Schimel declared that he needs to be elected to provide a support network for Trump. Last night, he gave lip service to “impartiality.” We don’t buy it. Matt Rothschild and Angela Lang, Executive Director of BLOC- Black Leaders Organizing for Community guest host today. Continuing the discussion Dom started with Angela yesterday, what should be the focus of the constantly expanding campaign for the Supreme Court of Wisconsin? Well, how about the Constitution? Many ads in these SCoWis races attempt to frame opponents as “soft on crime,” which both serves as a racist dogwhistle and to reopen community wounds. Yet the state’s highest court doesn’t address common crime. It’s time for change in these races- and we don’t mean change as in money. With $59 MILLION already invested into this race, we desperately need LESS money in our judicial races. Regardless, this is the race we have this time. BLOC endorses Judge Susan Crawford for SCoWis Justice. Check your voter registration and all items on your ballot, then make a plan and vote by April 1st!

Then, moving on to another threat to our Constitution, this time our nation’s. Palestinian activist Mahmoud Khalil is currently being held in an ICE detention facility after the Trump administration revoked his status as legal permanent resident. He has not been charged with any crime. So why is he there? Because of speech- a right protected in our First Amendment.

Read her latest piece up on The Recombobulation Area- now part of Civic Media- on how the SCoWis campaigns have changed over the past decade. The focus has shifted to emphasize candidates being “tough on crime,” which so frequently carries racist tones. That’s particularly problematic when we consider that SCoWis doesn’t hear cases about common street crimes. So what does our state Supreme Court do? We begin with continuing coverage on the economic situation. Today, the markets continued their tailspin, though the pace slowed somewhat. In a turnaround from his first term, President Trump now urges against watching the markets, asserting that their failure is not tied to them… although he’s often claimed the “Trump effect” when the markets do well.

A major contributing factor to the decline? Uncertainty over tariffs and a growing global trade war. As Trump institutes, then revokes, then increases, then decreases tariffs, the markets are jittery. So are Americans, concerned over the tax hikes presented by tariffs. But not to worry! Our White House Press Secretary insists that tariffs aren’t tax hikes, in fact, they’re tax cuts! Now of course, that’s just plain not true. And what are our elected officials doing? Well, our senior senator representing Wisconsin, Ron Johnson is once more “concerned,” though he has no plan of action to do anything about it.

On that note, yet another Washington Post columnist and editor- Ruth Marcus- leaves, citing conscience and journalistic principles. In an age of decreasing diversity of major news outlets, Harvey sings praise of our own humble project here at Civic Media.

We conclude news coverage two itmes. First, the platform formerly known as Twitter suffered multiple outages today, apparently due to cyberattacks from a group called Dark Storm. Second, our President cheered the arrest of a permanent resident immigrant on… well no charges at all. Mahmoud Khalil, a green-card carrying resident, was arrested by ICE following President Trump’s executive order relating to campus protests. This is distressing, and a call to action for us all.

Still, we end the day with something good. Because it matters. And because there is good to be celebrated, cherished, and protected in this crazy world.

\We’ll be honest, the economic news today is not good. With our President refusing to rule out a recession as a consequence of his bullheaded and chaotic tariffs, markets are down and volatility are WAY up. This will be no standard recession should it come. It will be a Trumpcession. What can we do to stop a Trumpcession? Well, we can stay engaged. And we can work to oust the oligarchs who’ve taken over our government. To that end, Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) rallied with overflow crowds in Kenosha on Friday and in Altoona on Saturday. The theme of the rallies: get the money out of politics! It may not be enough to ward off a Trumpcession, but it will protect deomocracy.

Self governance is a long game, and it requires each of our selves, constantly. With that in mind, a quick reminder! Our next election is April 1st, where our options for self governance in Wisconsin will include selecting a new state Supreme Court justice and State Superintendent of Public Instruction. Check your registration and all items on your ballot here! Part of self-governance includes holding your elected officials accountable. And those elected officials must submit themselves to OUR- We the People’s- reckoning. Yet following cool welcomes and constituent dissatisfaction, Republican lawmakers are counseled to cease holding in-person town hall events. And one of Wisconsin’s Congresspeople, Rep. Van Orden compares those upset constituents to Nazis… not a great look.

Self-governance is a radically new idea. And it’s one that We the People enshrined in a radical document in 1776, our Declaration of Independence. Now, our president wants to move that original document away from the public and into his office. Nu uh, says We.Sneaking in one last bit of news, some national Republicans are now admitting, Medicare cuts are absolutely in the cards. Why? Well, the system’s going bankrupt! Who’s saying that? Rick Scott, the richest senator and a guy who knows a thing or two about Medicare fraud. Since, y’know, he committed it.

Whatcha got planned for tonight? If you’re looking for something to do, why not listen to an old Jewish man rail against oligarchy with a message with incredibly consistency for damn near 50 years? Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) is on the road, gathering with people who are all looking for “where we go from here”. Tonight’s stop brings him to Kenosha. Wisconsin’s Congressman Mark Pocan will join him for this stop, adding his voice- also remarkable for its consistency to fighting for We the Poeple.

In today’s political world, consistency is rare. So we celebrate Senator Sanders and Congressman Pocan. But that which we see on the Republican side is a consistency of dismissal of We the People. Take, for instance, national Republican leaders instructing their members to cease holding in-person town halls. You know, that cradle of democracy and representation. Why? Because they don’t like that constituents are frustrated with the actions of their elected officials. Imagine that!

Earl Ingram joins us as cohost for the day. We all knew the cuts wouldn’t stop with foreign aid, disaster relief, or education. Now, veterans and their care land on President Trump’s chopping block. Today, the VA announced that- directed by Trump’s DOGE- they plan to reduce their workforce by more than 15%. There is no world in which decreasing the number of professionals dedicated to care does not also decrease the quality and availability of care. Is this what our veterans deserve? When President Biden took office, he increased funding to the VA in order to address pressing needs like long waits for critical care. In order to do that, the workforce expanded. These cuts seek to return the VA to 2019 levels- where they were when Biden addressed the needs of veterans. Significantly, the progress achieved through Biden’s landmark PACT act will likely be erased in these cuts.

The atrocious proposed cuts to vital funding for veterans deserve censure. But you know who doesn’t deserve censure? Representative Al Green of Texas, who stood up to protest massive proposed cuts to Medicaid during Trump’s address to a joint session of Congress. Still, the House voted to censure him today. His response speaks volumes, and we applaud him for it.

In no surprise to any of us paying attention, the economy devolves into chaos after conflicting tariff decisions. 25% tariffs on all goods imported from Mexico and Canada. No wait, those tariffs are delayed. Or maybe they’ll never come. Perhaps they’ll be much bigger than that. In response, today’s volatility index shows over a 13% increase, an enormous jump. The markets reflect the volatility of our own federal government, where no group is safe from a sudden slash or funding freeze.

With chaos the only constant, it’s no wonder even Wisconsin’s own conservative US Senator Johnson expresses deep concerns over his party leader’s tariff indecisions. The volatility and chaos will bring pain. In fact, Earl’s friend and frequent cohost Sandy Williams, a trained economist, predicts a pending recession due to the uncertainty.

Matt Rothschild joins as cohost for the day. Over the past few weeks, the 47th POTUS’ administration has trumpeted their efforts to cut the federal budget down to a reasonable size through the unconstitutional DOGE. And as we’ve seen, DOGE not only lacks integrity and focus, they lack receipts for anything substantial. In fact, the only verifiable cuts amount to, well, budget dust. And the cuts to our federal income in the form of massive tax decreases for the wealthy will absolutely dwarf any supposed savings from DOGE.

Last night, President Trump delivered an address to a joint session of Congress. Read the transcript if you wish, but save yourself two hours if you haven’t already watched the sorry proceedings. More importantly, read fact checks, because the speech was- unsurprisingly- riddled with lies, falsehoods, and absolute bogus. And watch a real speech addressing the state of our union, delivered by Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont. Because the needs of We the People are more than budget dust. And the cuts proposed to essential spending like Medicaid in the President’s “big beautiful bill” are far more than budget dust.

Matt Rothschild joins as cohost for the day. In local inefficient news, US Rep. Van Orden (R- WI, 3) threatened a veteran with termination from the VA for inefficient use of his time. Why? Well because the employee sent a message to Van Orden over LinkedIn asking for assistance against the federal firing sprees. Oh and one note, the veteran had already been fired in the mass purge of all probationary federal workers when he messaged Rep. Van Orden…

Also in the local markets proving his true inefficient nature, the king of it all- Elon Musk. This week, a Musk-backed group dropped big bucks on ads aimed at influencing the race for Supreme Court in Wisconsin. With lies. The most inefficient of communications. We do hope they backfire and end up pulling in some disenfranchised progressives who actually believe in the positions they’re falsely tying to Crawford. It’s also disgusting just how MUCH money Musk can *legally* pour into this race. Read Matt’s take on that situation here. Jess P-S and Harvey Kaye, Professor Emeritus of Democracy and Justice Studies at UWGB, and our favorite Delano Democrat co-host the show today! In the first hour we discussed the vital matter of truth. Now, we turn to the true conflict in our country. It’s not a matter of Democrats vs. Republicans. The true conflict comes between We the People and oligarchs. We the People bear rights enshrined in our Declaration of Independence and Constitution of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Oligarchs- those financial megapowers that seek to hoard wealth and power, who FDR called economic royalists- limit democracy. And they form the basis of the 47th President’s Cabinet and advisory team. That’s a scary thing.

So what can we do? Well, we can resist. We can resist by joining with our communities. Our resistance needs to start at the grassroots, but national organization certainly helps. Check out 50501– 50 states, 50 local organizations, 1 national peaceful movement. We can choose to listen to the voices of our history that proclaimed that We the People are entitled to economic safety, like FDR did in his 1941 and 1944 State of the Union Addresses. And we can choose to follow an alternative national address tonight as our current president speaks to a joint session of Congress.
